- "Takin' It To The Streets" The Doobie Brothers Vo & Chorus All Instruments Cover Stu & Ryo
"Takin' It to the Streets" is a song by the American rock band The Doobie Brothers from the album of the same name. It was their first single with Michael McDonald on vocals and was written by McDonald.
This song has a strong impression in its main chorus.
It's a song that gives a different impression from "The Doobie Brothers" from the Tom Johnston era, but at the same time, it also has the characteristics of The Doobie Brothers.
Changing the main vocalist in a band brings about a big change, and I think this is one of those examples.
The Doobie Brothers came to Japan last year.
It was a special concert, with Michael McDonald also coming along.
I liked his The Doobie Brothers better when they were with Tom Johnston, but I also came to like Michael McDonald's vocals.
As for his solo work, I really like the "Motown" series.
When I saw that, I wanted to cover this song, so I asked my music friend Stu on RUclips to collaborate with me.
He readily agreed.
Stu is a very good vocalist and also a great chorus vocalist.
So, in this song, I think you can hear his amazing talent.

I played all the instruments on this song.
Guitar and bass are recorded live performances.
The piano was too difficult for me to play, so I played with one hand at a time. lol
I also played the drums, but since I'm not a drummer, I made some mistakes and fixed them later.
The solo in the middle of this song originally uses a saxophone, but since I can't play the saxophone, I replaced it with a guitar. The phrase is based on the original and has been slightly changed to suit the guitar.
The ending guitar is not in the original, but I added it.
It was played improvised. I tried to do a solo that didn't interfere with the singing. I felt that the guitar should support the increasing uplifting feeling of the music toward the end of the song, so I intended to play in that direction.
The photo of them after the song was finished was taken when I went to the concert. These were live performances where the band had officially given permission to take photos.
"Takin' It To The Streets"
lyrics
[Verse 1]
You don't know me but I'm your brother
I was raised here in this living hell
You don't know my kind in your world
Fairly soon, the time will tell
[Bridge]
Oh, you, telling me the things
You're gonna do for me
I ain't blind and I don't like
What I think I see
[Chorus]
(Taking it to the streets)
Taking it to the streets
(Taking it to the streets)
No more need for running
(Taking it to the streets)
[Verse 2]
Take this message to my brother
You will find him everywhere
Wherever people live together
Tied in poverty's despair
[Bridge]
Oh, you, telling me the things
You're gonna do for me
I ain't blind and I don't like
What I think I see
[Chorus]
(Taking it to the streets)
Taking it to the streets
(Taking it to the streets)
No more need for running
(Taking it to the streets)
Taking it to the streets
(Taking it to the)
[Solo]
[Bridge]
Oh, you, telling me the things
You're gonna do for me
I ain't blind and I don't like
What I think I see
[Chorus]
(Taking it to the streets)
Taking it to the streets
(Taking it to the streets)
No more need for running
(Taking it to the streets)
Yeah, yeah
