I seriously won the In-Law game! Mine are amazing. Not perfect, but so wonderful. They’re in their early 70s, just moved in with us and I hope they live another 20+ years. I’m so so sorry for anyone who didn’t get parents/in-laws like this! When it’s our turn, parents, let’s be the amazing ones!
I was taking care of my son and dtr inaw's small children as a favor to help them get on their feet. My dtr in law was frazzled (just reentering the work force), so I thought I would surprise her with catching up on the laundry and doing the dishes. Solely because I felt for her. My son called me and told me not to do that. At first I was hurt, but then realized how it had been perceived. I thanked him and praised him for being a good husband and never did anything like that again without asking. Lesson learned.
Abigail said her husband bought the house before they got married. I'd wager that either his parents actually bought the house for him or they gave him a significant amount of money toward purchasing it.
This is a common story for couples who's parents/in laws didn't contribute. It's often just an entitlement thing. There's nothing to indicate MIL paid for the house.
I had this problem with my overbearing obnoxious mother in law. It went on for a couple of years before I got tired of waiting for my wife to fix the situation and I told my mother in law directly how I felt. She got mad and didnt talk to the family for a couple of months but eventually came around things worked out fine. What I’m saying is if the husband wont say it SHE NEEDS TO SAY IT!!! Let it out!!
This is exactly what my mother does. She is extremely nosey goes through my things when I am not around. She also stoled from me as well. I had to cut her off for years for crossing my boundaries as an adult. I reconnected with her 8 years later nothing changed she still lying and doing the same thing. I had to do my cut off again. My mother is very toxic.
You missed a spot over here and here. Yeah. If she starts being picky about the chores she will leave for sure. It's the best way to get rid of unwanted visitors and company.
We would never have that problem. My inlaws are fabulous. That said, IF we ever had that problem, let the in-law in question discover our "spicy" drawer in the bedroom. They'll never come over again. 😂
Wow. This is one of those "things in my life are not perfect, but at least I am not dealing with this" clips. There is no way of dealing with this that doesn't involve MIL getting angry, but it definitely needs to end.
Abigail needs to not give hubby any until he builds that wall and changes the locks. If he doesn't like that, she can tell him that he's a three-year-old and she doesn't have sex with children.
My friend's husband has a key to his son's house because he walks and dog sits as well as does his lawn. As much as he thinks he's being helpful, his wife thinks it's too much.
I am sure that mom honestly thinks that she is helping. She isn't. Her doing this is a critique but, I don't think it is playing out that way in her head.
