Yes it's a lovely CB radio, worth every penny, you can pay a lot more for others, thanks for watching my videos, I'm not a RUclipsr, just someone who loves radio and thought too share my time on CB radio, . And to show CB radio is still active and worth trying. Best regards Martin 😃.

That Ares performs very well. I have the AT6666, but I think I bought the wrong anytone 😁. But I needed a smaller form factor for the vehicle, and it pushes about 50 watts on SSB.

Yes the radio works well, worth the money, i just like those radios that have the old school look, i also like running them on low power, i try to let the antenna do the the job, but too be honest it's the Ares 2 is nice to look at, my antenna is a bit close to the house, plus I'm inside the city of Swansea in a built up area, so the noise levels, not the best, but the radio work's well, thanks for your comments much appreciated.

Hi Martin can you DX to USA these days?

Hi yes you can these day's talk to the United States, we are at the peak soon at the. 11 year solar cycle on the CB radio band. So it's possible to speak to the world on CB radio, using SSB . I've spoken in the past on FM Which is hard to do 😊. But it's more possible theses day's. Hopefully that's answered your question cheers Martin 😁👋.

Anytone version of the cobra 148

The anytone Ares 2 is a lovely radio, i own a cobra 148gtldx Mark 2 made in 1981, but it's over 41 year's old, And if you look on eBay they sell for ridiculously stupid prices, the Ares 2 is a modern take on a old classic it can cover from 24 MHz through to 29 MHz also CB radio, is stable so doesn't drift, there are many more positives about this radio, you can also buy it for under £200 pounds, unlike some old cobra 148gtldxes, that go from silly price's like £300 And upto £400 pounds, i rest my case.

Yes they will work, we still have the old CB radio frequencies on FM from 27.60125 channel 1 to 27,,99125 channel 40. But SSB is now legal from 27,965 to 27,405, AM/FM/& SSB , but most people use whatever CB radio's including all from the 1980s, even HF radios, it's like the wild West out there 😅. Hopefully this helps cheers Martin 👋

Hi Martin - how does this compare to the superstar 3900 (2023) i see you have both. Any noticiable difference in performance when power settings all equal? I belive the radios are very similar. I am considering a 3900 but thinking of keeping it standard (accepting i will miss put on the 555 etc) but would be nice to work the midblock QRP.

Hi thanks for the question, well both are good radios, both work fine, are both are similar, if you opened them up the boards are similar. Both CB radios are aesthetically pleasing too the eyes,, and both work, I also enjoyed using the radio's with 4 Watts & 12 Watts. I know that most people on CB radio are using amplifiers, And it's like the wild West out there. But it's fun building antennas and actually speaking to people on 4 watts. Or 12 Watts, anyway I'm hoping to put, More videos up soon. Thanks for watching cheers Martin 😁👋.

@@martindavies6640 Thanks for the reply. They are great looking radios. Yes I know what you mean about it being like the wild west out there. You can't compete when it comes to power so why bother is my view. Don't get me wrong I used to have amps and thought great I can be heard but then you get frustrated when you don't get heard and think more power the answer. Since then I've sold all my amps and just run radio power. As you say, all about the antenna and efficiency of your setup. I have just AM/FM radios at present and wondering whether I should get a SSB radio again. In the past I've had them but only held onto them for a few months before going back to basics rigs. I've had 6900/3900/DX 5000/Alinco dr135 and a president Lincoln 2 so tried a few lol. I guess I just like 4 watts AM/FM at present haha 😂 look forward to more videos in due course. 73s Ant

@@26DR302yes you can't beat old school FM/AM CB radios, i own a few lol 😂, and using basic power from the radio, proves it can be done, its all down to the antenna, Cheers Martin.
