I'm am well impressed with mine. Didn't get a chance to use it until the first night after I'd got it. I was talking to a guy 4-5 miles away from indoors - he thought I was messing him about, although I was using the longer Albrecht rubber duck. And I usually suffer chronic interference from next door's WiFi unless I use a QRM eliminator which doesn't stop it completely. But when I switched the NRC in on the T-X, the interference was gone completely! And the battery seems to last forever! 10/10 so far.
I bought a Thunderpole T-X recently. The radio, including build quality, is excellent. I went to buy another and it seems the T-X is currently sold out everywhere in the UK so that shows it must be poplar. Luckily I managed to find a dealer who appeared to have the last one available for sale.... According to the dealers site more units will be available in September.
Bloody hell. the Thunderpole T-X turned into a Tree? Amazing!! I have some Poplar Trees in the garden but cannot get any reception from them, what am I doing wrong? 🤔🤔
Here in Norway there is very little CB users. I live in Oslo, but there is no one to talk to at cb. But I have sometimes some contacts with CB people in England, and that's nice! The best from LB1NH 🙂
W Polsce też minęła moda na CB ale jak się jeździ dużo samochodem to można dużo porozmawiać z kierowcami TIR i nie tylko każdego 13 dnia miesiąca są testy łączności CB. I wtedy jest super jak za starych dobrych czasów
Fired mine up in the car using the Thunderpole car kit, Thunderpole Red Devil antenna on a 7" mag (and a little bit of help with a KL203) and hit 35 miles on 7lb radio 4. Terrific radio - not surprised they've sold out!
I wonder if this is ever coming to the US. It says 27mhz so it appears compatable with our CB band. The most interesting thing to me is "FM" because that's recently approved here for CB.
I have a MARS modified FT-991 (I have an extra class ham license) so I can work the MARS stations during "Armed Forces Day." I can tune though the CB band and have yet to hear a CBer on FM yet. Maybe it's still too new, seeing how this was just passed in 2021.
@@phillipzx3754 I expect slow adoption because it's going to be strange with mixed traffic. Maybe they should have published a guideline encouraging people to use certain channels for FM. @@phillipzx3754 No need to convince me. I use FM on other frequencies all the time. It might take a while before there are enough FM rigs out there to get the conversations going. I'm not into the CB scene so I'm not sure how this is playing out.
Nope! Their site literally says they only sell to people in the UK. So their CB radios are only setup for use in the UK. CB in the UK uses 27mhz, but the channel spacing is different, so using a UK CB in the U.S. is not legal. So 27mhz and 40 channels just like CB in the U.S., but the frequencies are slightly different. Here is an idea I have had for awhile. Take one of the old TRC FM UK CB walkie talkies from the 1980s, and put in crystals with U.S. frequencies to see if it works. Realistic would make their TRC walkie talkies, but they would make a U.S. version and a UK version. The UK versions had FM, and I am guessing if you took a TRC 1007 and put the crystals from a TRC-216 in it, you would have a U.S. CB from the 1980s with FM.
Come on Lewis , your getting me in trouble mate , another video and another radio ordered, told the wife it’s only £40 to keep her happy, I was very excited awaiting this radio, email from Thunderpole today to say back in stock so I ordered in seconds , hopefully get within the next two days , all the best mate , always good quality videos . Patrick 🍷
I picked up a late 70s barracuda gt-868 cb radio from a thrift store recently complete with box and all instructions and looks brand new like its never been used. Yet to test it but can't wait as I've always loved cb radio and made a lot of friends over the years from it.
Good video, I bought my thunder pole hand held about , 4 wks ago, I wasn’t impressed with the receive audio , was thinking about sending it back , sounds almost like people were slightly off freq , although the screen and noise reduction impressed me , so I kept it,,, I also bought a telescopic antenna, that wasn’t much better than the standard , despite how long it is , will review on my channel, soon called Motorcycles And Things. Cheers Shane uk 🇬🇧
Andy Kirby is going to do a side by side comparison of the randy 3 and this radio, imo this is better value for money than the Randy 3 only issue I can hear is the rx audio if they can sort that out president will have to drop the price or see their sales fall off a cliff, I think the TX is doing a bit of digital signal processing, I'm pretty sure it's using an si4705 for receive this is why it's cheap but if that's the case it could also do ssb in theory, for the money there isn't anything close, that being said with the randy you do get the car kit which cost extra for the TX, if they can sharpen up the rx audio and if it can be hacked for ssbb then it's game over, super video Lewis as ever, really interesting about the antenna as well 👍
Would be great to get back on CB again & this handheld seems like a great bit of kit.Nice review going to order one today & looking forward to making new friends on the CB radio.
Put a CB in my car and loved it so much I now have one in my house. I have a ham license and mobile and handheld ham radios but the CB is the only one in my car and the only one I enjoy right now. Among other things, truckers discussing traffic nearby on roads I actually use, in real time, is about 1000% more useful than hams chewing rags about nothing.
I got back into CB about a year ago. There are lots of callers out there on Ch. 38 but I’ll give you a little advice. If you want to talk and be heard - get at least a 100 Watt Linear and a Beam Antenna. At least a 3 element beam. Nobody will even know you’re there without the power. I’m using a Uniden Bearcat SSB W/ a SOLARCON Antron antenna. Sometimes I can hit a guy up north of Florida or to the west into California - but the hits are few - if any in an hour. Get the Power and Get a Beam.. Good Luck and 73’s.
Try a 9ft wire on a crimp terminal ring, goes over rf connector, screw antenna down onto ring ground.Tests with Randy 2/3 showed a marked improvement on stock antenna with a trailing counterpoise wire upto 3 S points TX and RX Lewis. Easy to build one too.Nice vid Rob P
Interesting handheld. I have a Thunderpole T-600 in my vehicle with a Mini Orbitor Ariel which has been great for trips out on the lanes. Yet to test in anger range wise though.
do like CB, should really get one set back at home and in the van. this looks a great one to take out in the field. Thanks for the excellent video, nice demo of the features and radio performance.
I was considering getting something like this as since I was 10 I wanted a CB, now at 44 I think this is the one to get started with. Could be useful in emergency situations. Could anyone point me in the direction of somewhere to get to grips with the basics of CB radio use including etiquette etc? Thanks!
Thank You Lewis. Looks great I see they have sold out on the Thunderpole site already but sure they'll re-stock. Fantastic piece of kit. Will be buying.
Unfortunately, the first test does not state the distance. Its always a challenge getting range out of a 27mhz handheld. The noise reduction really knocks out the white noise on the signal but pays the usual price in intelligability.
UK stock ariving Thursday at KCB DOT UK, was stuck in customs but on the way. Just bought one as cb is on the way back it seems and this is a fantastic handset.
Well the Randy lll doesn't have NRC noise reduction like the Thunderpole T-X has. Maybe the next version of the Randy lll might have that but right now the Thunderpole T-X is ahead of the game with the NRC and half the price!
No the rx audio on this isn't as good as the randy 3, it's still a good radio for the money but it's not as good as the randy imo but it's much better value for money that's for sure
Great comparison test, Lewis. I have the Midland Alan 42DS and TBH have not been very impressed with it, using the stock antenna. NR on the Thunderpole appears to work very well indeed. Nice one! 73
Thunderpole do make some good CBs, the T3000 being highly recommended for a mobile unit. At under £100 this is probably the cheapest handhelds out there as is certainly featured packed and robust. Quite the bargain if you are on the lookout for a handheld.
Yup it's a great price that's the thing, that being said I wouldn't swap it for the president Randy 3 just based on the rx audio, all the reviews I've seen on this radio the rx audio is disappointing, muffled, I hope thunderpole can sort this out, I think there is DSP at play, be nice if they released schematics so I could see what's at play.
Thank you very much great review the noise reduction is incredible just amazing!!!!! now I would love to receive the same signal same antenna on 2 radios to see when this feature is off does it make the radio slightly def just a thought?? Thank you loved this

Hi good video. I bought this a month ago it’s very good. I have the INTEK and the ALAN but I like this better. So easy to use but it needs the long Antenna witch I all ready had two. One other thing it don’t need turning off press buttons the turning on to change county ware the other two I have to. Best so far in my experience. The Antenna iv got is metal telescopic very long says 27-MHZ on it BNC then about 2-inches up a 1-inch black plastic . I do all so have the all black Antenna about half this length I think most people know the one .
It great handheld I was amazed by NRC value for the money. Yes it has hidden menu I was watching @delboyonline video just waiting for telescopic antenna to come in the post I will test it out on 10m where's you can't on rubber duck antenna. Great video.
What is wrong with the speaker on that CB, the President Randy is just the same - Bad, there's too much vibration in the speaker as far as I'm concerned. the Midland portapak audio was much clearer, but thanks for the review.
Very interesting yes I would tend to agree. Normally these stock antennas are not the best however with this result it's quite no I am using of course as far as what I'm using right now is a classic trc-217 TRC 216 I can also get some interesting range out of it however you nose reduction is quite an impressive I managed to achieve more range of course with some minor modification to the This includes a double coil basically taking the trc-217 including an extender plus another antenna with a coil managed to increase the the range more effective however Surprisingly without antenna you have it seems to be doing much better I have to carry about 6 to 7 ft antenna to get that. Range I suspect that there must be a good 49:1 transformer inside inside the unit to get that kind of result then again I've also seen guys using this type of antenna on SSB And we managed to talk for quite a bit of distance Thank you for the video quite impressive for the result with the noise reduction 73 and all the best thank you I will be posting this video on my group CB radio 11 meter citizen Band. Vancouver BC Canada international On Facebook.
Hi Lewis I am a life long handheld radio enthusiast,I say Andy Kirby's review and straight away order one of these fantastic radios I have many handheld cbs including the president randy 2&3 but this Tunderpole T-X is so much better and a lot less money there is also the PNI escort hp82 which is a almost identical to the T-X but you get the car kit with it for 99 pounds but they are all sold out. The tx can also do 25.50 to 30.10 mhz both in 5's and 0's so good for 10meters. 73 love Cb regards Robert
No way it's better than the Randy 3 it's cheaper but not better, also don't forget the randy 3 comes with the external power and antenna adapter in the box, my concern with this radio is the receive audio isn't very good, its muffled like an old audioline.
Price is very important and as you failed to notice I have a Randy3 and a Randy2 the T-X audio on my example is not muffled, when the T-X is in NRC is used the range is different but clear. I like my randy3 and it is my benchmark radio .But you can buy two T-X for the price of one Randy3. I think the NRC circuit is very good as is the antenna supplied with the T-X.
try the albrecht hyflex with this radio that would be perfect....;) or half wavelenght coax cable antennas .. the antenna isin most cases more important than the radio ;) perfect video

Ohh looking at a handheld will look at one of these
What are the differences between UK and USA spec?
Hi, thanks for the video. Newbie question, Would a discone on the chimney stack work with that radio? Thanks.
Would be great if you guys could do a comparison vid of this vs the Joipx vs PNI vs the President Randy III.
It great handheld I was amazed by NRC value for the money. Yes it has hidden menu I was watching @delboyonline video just waiting for telescopic antenna to come in the post I will test it out on 10m where's you can't on rubber duck antenna. Great video.
Can this CB radio be used in the USA
Hiya Ringway I've just bought one of these what level would you set the squelch im currently on 3. Advice would be great
Hi how far this radio you can get to. ?
How long is a piece of string
Approximately?
Sold-out already
That noise reduction is quite usefull indeed!
Thanks
Thanks so much
Tried to buy one today sold out everywhere.
What is wrong with the speaker on that CB, the President Randy is just the same - Bad, there's too much vibration in the speaker as far as I'm concerned. the Midland portapak audio was much clearer, but thanks for the review.
I think its caled the PNI escort hp 82 also.
Very interesting yes I would tend to agree. Normally these stock antennas are not the best however with this result it's quite no I am using of course as far as what I'm using right now is a classic trc-217 TRC 216
I can also get some interesting range out of it however you nose reduction is quite an impressive
I managed to achieve more range of course with some minor modification to the
This includes a double coil basically taking the trc-217 including an extender plus another antenna with a coil managed to increase the the range more effective however
Surprisingly without antenna you have it seems to be doing much better I have to carry about 6 to 7 ft antenna to get that. Range
I suspect that there must be a good 49:1 transformer inside inside the unit to get that kind of result then again I've also seen guys using this type of antenna on SSB
And we managed to talk for quite a bit of distance
Thank you for the video quite impressive for the result with the noise reduction
73 and all the best thank you
I will be posting this video on my group

Hi Lewis
I am a life long handheld radio enthusiast,I say Andy Kirby's review and straight away order one of these fantastic radios I have many handheld cbs including the president randy 2&3 but this Tunderpole T-X is so much better and a lot less money there is also the PNI escort hp82 which is a almost identical to the T-X but you get the car kit with it for 99 pounds but they are all sold out.
The tx can also do 25.50 to 30.10 mhz both in 5's and 0's so good for 10meters.

love Cb
regards
Robert
@@knoxieman have both , the randy III is much better in quality buld in audio Quality (Rx/TX)
Does it do the 10m band?
For those of us that are into ham radio.
Are these for sale over in the USA?
try the albrecht hyflex with this radio that would be perfect....;) or half wavelenght coax cable antennas .. the antenna isin most cases more important than the radio ;) perfect video
Does it have CTCSS?
Already SOLD OUT......
