This is definitely a good list of episodes. The only episode I would add to that would be "Preemptive Strike" since it deals with the Maquis and they would be a kind of recurring thing in DS9 (looking at you Eddington).
I would pick The Price among the prerequisites because it is a good episode about Feregi values and introduces an allegedly stable wormhole (a good setup for the significance of the stable wormhole near Bajor).
A legit pause to this when she said that there were five episodes in one bonus one and rattled off a list that I thought was going to be on there. And I thought "The Price" was going to be one of those episodes for sure
DS9 definitely stood on TNG's shoulders. The main reason they retconned the Trill look was because of how beautiful Terry Ferrell is. They tried many different version of the original makeup but they didn't want to hide her face under prosthetics because of how gorgeous she is.
Great list! It's the exact same list I picked, except I would have swapped out family ties with the price. Family ties is more of a bonus episode while the price deals with ferengi and apparently stable but actually unstable wormholes.
A good list but I would add one more. TNG: Journey's End(S7-E20). This is the episode that helps to set up the situation with the Maquis as it shows the fall out from the new Federation-Cardassian peace treaty. Picard is ordered to relocate colonists who are now on the Cardassian side of the new border and they don't want to leave. Given that the Maquis would be an important subplot for a large part of DS9's run I think it would be a good episode to watch.
I am seriously going to need you to do a DS9 episode/meme of The Maquis 1&2 where Sisko throws a bag on top of the table, supposedly full of Commander Calvin Hudson's old Starfleet uniform, but instead is the changeling Odo and it is vaporized out of existence by Hudson's phaser, which would cut to a different changeling dying and then followed by one of your patented "OMG!!!"... 👀 It's all canon in my head 😅
Great list. This is basically all of the main episodes from TNG that DS9 built upon for its premise and a few of the show's main and recurring characters. To be honest, you don't really need to watch TNG to enjoy DS9, with the exception of "The Best of Both Worlds" just because that episode does have the most impact on DS9, particularly the Siskos. Mainly because, everything covered in the other episodes on this list are brought up in DS9 quite alot. Particularly in the first two seasons.
That's a major plus for Star Trek: even though the franchise is big, you can pretty much start with any of the shows without having to watch the previous shows.
@@JanelleWaz Exactly, and that makes it easier for new viewers since there are over 800 episodes of Star Trek (including the modern shows) out there, and trying to figure out where to start can be a daunting task.
If you find this interesting, try the Star Trek Chronology Project. It places nearly a thousand Star Trek episodes and movies into one enormous sequence. Amazing stuff.
I'd probably save the Maquis episodes for an "Episodes to watch before Voyager" video, except that Voyager didn't do much with the Maquis outside of the first couple of seasons.
@@JanelleWaz yes, and that annoyed me. Then again, what could they do besides rebel against Starfleet? They were indoctrinated into the crew and there were no Cardassians out that way 👀 the one episode Chakotay got to show his man muscles and remind them of the Maquis way. Chakotay was the most underused first officer in my opinion. 😔
@tilasole3252 Agreed. Voyager is a decent show, but it could have been so much more. The Maquis were integrated into the crew too quickly, and after a couple of seasons, you forget half the crew is Maquis. I'm long overdue for a Voyager rewatch, but I feel like the early show took the time to focus on each crew member (Chakotay included) only for the later seasons to stop doing that as much.
The only thing I could add to this video would be too maybe watch the Klingon episodes so that you can follow the wharf storylines easier. Also try to ignore it when DS9 recycles the Kern killing himself storyline.
We see in Generations I believe, where Picard imagines the Borg implant resurfacing in the mirror. But what if it actually happened during his captivity with the Cardassians? And as he is being tortured, his left over Borg implants kick in for any number of reasons and Picard hands the Cardassians their ass. 🤔
What @claytonberg721 said. What's sad is that Voyager had the opportunity to expand the Maquis and it became an afterthought after the first couple of seasons.
I'm of the opinion you could completely skip over TNG and just watch DS9 on its own. That's what I mostly did -- I didn't get a chance to watch much TNG first before diving into DS9, and I was fine.
Entirely true. That's what nice about Trek: you can really jump in anywhere and understand what's going on. The only show I would say to hold off on is Enterprise, but again: you don't have to.
It's from the Season 1 episode Dax. She was telling off the guy that broke into DS9 to kidnap Jadzia. I love the way she says her line: "They must have given you the layout, which not only compromises Bajoran security, but also... annoys us."
There... Are... Six... Episodes!

T&A 😊
I think the pictures of her with the original Trill forehead are out there. Suffice to say, I'm glad they went with the spots.
@@JanelleWaz so how far do the spots go down? 🤔

It also helps that these episodes you recommend are amazing in their own right! ❤

like the Trill Bonus Episode, i would maybe introduce the Ferengi even they got renewed in DS9
my late uncle bought a bootleg DS9 for me, sisko punching Q was soooooooo cool

I’d add Journey’s End even though it came out after DS9 started, to see the origin story of the Marquis.
If you find this interesting, try the Star Trek Chronology Project. It places nearly a thousand Star Trek episodes and movies into one enormous sequence. Amazing stuff.
Not necessary to start DS9, but I might add a couple of the Worf episodes that deal with his Discommendation etc. For when he comes onto the show.
Second chances, Journey’s End , Preempted Strike for voyager
The Marque Maque however it is spelt, was introduced in TNG and also played a part i. DS9. Sisko's friend and Edington switched sides to join them.
Maquis. It comes from the French resistance in WWII.
@@claytonberg721also the Spanish Civil War

Yeah, that's a good point. It helps to know who Gowron is when he starts appearing in DS9.

I did like a hundred times
Makes me wonder which videos are prerequisites for Voyager ....
TNG: Mesure of a Man, Hollow Pursuits, The Price
DS9: Any Quark's bar based episode. Cardi/Bajor episode, Maquis episode
You need to know about the badlands, the maquis, but that's more or less it.
What @claytonberg721 said. What's sad is that Voyager had the opportunity to expand the Maquis and it became an afterthought after the first couple of seasons.
