I've been shooting revolvers double action for police duty, hunting and recreation well over 30 years. Last year I picked up a S&W 610, it shoots double action just fine. "N" frame is slightly larger than the 686 "L" frame and considerably larger than my "K" frames, but very manageable.
I have a SW .45 revolver - bought a 610. TKCustom has services to smooth out cylinder. Plus a few other services and moon clips. I've found them doing a search. Been happy with their moon clips and tools to load / unload them.
I purchased the exact same revolver ( 610-3 4” barrel) about a year ago and am very happy with it. The fit, finish and function are excellent. Although the double action trigger pull is fairly heavy, it’s very smooth with no stacking. I find I can reload with the moonclips easier and faster than I can reload my 686+ with my HKS speed loaders. You should check out Rimz moonclips- they are made from a hard polymer and don’t get bent or tweaked out like the metal ones can.
If you like 10 mm try the Ruger Wiley Clapp edition GP 100 , 3” Barrel Novak style combat rear sight with a fiber optic front sight, built like a tank an designed for ccw it is a fantastic revolver
The front sight can be easily removed by just pushing it back and up its spring thigh if you can say that. I’ve had mine now for 4 months. When ejecting the empties help the cylinder with your thumb as you push on the ejector.
No excuse for any issues with an S&W but it's been that way since they went to frame-mounted firing pins. I can't count all the Smith's I've owed but only tried one of the "new" ones.. SAD!
Can't dispute that the 10mm Revolver is a beauty but, the Model 19,.686, and 66 in .357 have a larger Platform of ability and Use for users at all skill levels in a medium frame (L)..nice try Smith & Wesson...(K) frame, I choose the 29
Personally, outside of Performance Center, I think Smith revolvers have terrible triggers out of the box. Fortunately, doing trigger jobs on them is relatively easy and straightforward to do (a good gunsmith can do it without much trouble if one is unwilling to do it oneself) and will dramatically improve the trigger
I don’t have experience with modern Smith revolvers, but my older ones have a very smooth trigger. I was issued a Smith & Wesson Model 686 when I was first hired as a police officer in January 1990, and its trigger was phenomenally good. It was a tack driver. Of course, our brass wouldn’t let me buy mine when they made us switch to Glocks a few years later ( You want to talk about crappy triggers, oh boy!). The lock mechanism on the newer Smiths probably contributes to the poorer triggers nowadays. Have a great day, and thanks for discussing.
@@johndilday1846 At my LGS, we have a running conspiracy theory that modern Smith & Wesson's have purposefully bad triggers to drive people towards their Performance Center options. One only has to pick up a Kimber or a Colt revolver to know what a good factory trigger is like. This is why I tend to prefer Ruger revolvers... they are priced much better than Kimbers, Colts, or Performance Centers, but have much better triggers than standard Smith's. The fact that they are built like tanks and handle recoil like nobody's business is just icing on the cake.
It depends on the individual gun. I bought an early 69 and the one they brought me was far inferior to the shelf piece I tried out, which was amazeballs. I bought the shelf gun. I had the same issue with a 442. Make sure you get a good one.
Thanks for sharing. Personally, I don't the purpose of a 10mm revolver. A .357 is just as powerful and more flexible and a. 44 mag is much more powerful. Let me know if I am wrong.
@@wes326 Yes, plus multiple guns using the same ammo makes inventory or stockpiling easier. I do agree though that the 357 mag revolver is hard to beat. From light loaded 38's to 357 mag rounds that can be real stoppers. The same is true with 44 but, for me I find the 357 a bit more versatile.
Don’t forget about that old dinosaur, the .41 magnum! Great cartridge but not practical today. I have one, and the only reason I kept it was the amazing accuracy I got with it, and with slightly less recoil than my .44 mag. If one is a wealthy handloader, I suppose it makes more sense. You can load it hotter or download it to suit your needs.
Enjoyed your review, Hammer Striker. Just finished another "review" by a dumb@$$ for the same model revolver. He didn't even know how to hold it. Anyway, what I wanted to say is that I have a M646 S&W 40 S&W caliber. It is an L frame 4" that I really love to shoot. I often use it as a CC piece with an additional loaded moon clip in my pocket. I have a hand crafted demooning tool made with a piece of copper tubing. Takes just a few minutes to cut the notch in it and it works really well. The rounds snap in place by hand easily when loading. :)
It's new. Send it back to S&W. There is something very wrong with this 1. I own (and have owned MANY) several S&W revolvers and they should not act this way in double action. Have them fix it and you'll be much happier with it in double action.
Good luck finding all that during the next ammopocalype. 10 mm and 40 everywhere when I couldn’t even find 308 hunting ammo. I’ve been to gun shops from Alabama to Pennsylvania from West Virginia to Missouri and I haven’t seen a box of 41 magnum in probably fifteen years.
What a disappointment, the locking device started malfunctioning right out of the case. I'm sure there are others out there that have had the same issues, loose locking device just locking at will. I have zero confidence that this gun is going to perform as advertised. I haven't even shot one round out of this Paperweight, waiting on my Lock Delete KIt to show up to cure this issue forever.
@@bobjohnson1633 My 610 went back to S&W because the barrel was not put on right from the factory, it's cockeyed to the left. so along with the failure of the locking device, this is just another issue. probably won't see this gun back for quite some time. whoever built my gun that week must have been the worst employee on the payroll. where's the QA Inspector at ???
I had the Wilson Combat spring installed and the double action is lowered to a smooth 5-6 lbs on my S & W 610, and 686...Try it, you'll love it!
I just bought one, was lucky to get one for $815, NIB. I can't wait for it to get here, got the 6.5" barrel for hunting.

I just got mine a little over two weeks ago. I have only put 180 grain 40 caliber and 200 grain 10mm ammo through it so far.
I've got the 6" version. Love it!
Sure looks nice. Revolvers are so cool.

not the new ones
Wilson Kit and a little polishing will fix that trigger right up.
the front sight is interchangeable you could remove it by hand super easy to replace.
Your ejector rod is likely loose. That is probably why it is hard to open. The threads or backwards if remember correctly. So left tight.
Don't tighten your own ejector rod unless you know what you're doing. Easy to bend and need replaced.
@@bobjohnson1633 What? No, it is easy to do and it is hard to bend.
Get some RIMZ polymer style moonclips!!!!
Did the moon clip make for easy reloading the gun? Good video!
Is the 610 buy far the heaviest 10mm handgun? it weighs 3.5 lbs
It's a cool compromise between a 357 and a 9mm 👍
Between?? 10mm outpaces 357 from the tests I've seen. It is a step up from 357 and 9mm

Here is one reason. I have seen little to no 357 or 44 on the shelves since the scamdemic started.

Waste of money stick with the 44 or the 41 or the 357 Magnum, for crying out loud

The lock has an internal notch that engages the hammer. You can file it off, and I do. If I need a gun to be safe, it's locked inside one.

This revolver bothers me, why would anyone want a weak .41 magnum? Just buy a S&W 57 and rock on....
This is a great choice for those that like 10mm, but hate carrying so much extra ammo inside their gun.
