Yup i think you’re right. Just driving fast wouldnt cause a blown cylinder but you mix him dogging the car and putting 87 in it. It would cause the cylinder to blow. The hemi’s are meant to be opened up and shouldn’t idle long but yeah he might need a new fuel pump too.

Can confirm this happens to the Mercedes M113 series V8’s as well as the M276 series V8’s when you put 87 octane fuel in there. The 6.4 hemi is loosely based on those Benz motors. The 6.2 Hellcat is but an updated M113K based engine.
I could be wrong but the car is supposed to adjust the timing when putting in fuel that isn’t required. My ole lady slip’d up in her 6.4 & Didn’t have an issue but she also didn’t Dog it out knowing the mistake.
There’s also a guy on RT Life YT who put 87 in an “supposedly” uses 87 on the regularly
@@ukayhemi6385 Yeah but you’re really not supposed to and the engines adjust to what you put in them. So lets say the owner always puts 91 octane in there and then it drinks 87 and someone full throttles it, your causing the cylinders to work harder with a mixture of lower octane fuel can cause a misfire or blown engine. It maybe could’ve been okay if he didn’t drive it hard. Or if he caught it in time at the pump they would’ve had to tow it and pump the fuel out.
And this is why people don’t rent out Hemi’s like that on Turo. Sorry it happened to you but the Mopars attract the worst renters and the cars usually end up Stolen, crashed, or completely dogged out.

I think that’s how TURO gains some of😮 the market share in the car rental space. Because bad renters, who otherwise couldn’t go to other car rental companies, like enterprise, Hertz, or budget wouldn’t allow them to rent from them and I think that’s the loophole that TURO is filling. Now on the flipside that’s bad for the Turo host because nobody has deep pockets like the big car rental companies and they’re guaranteed to get all their money from you if you damage any of their vehicles.

I think it’s illegal to do that. Kill switch is more of a I’m parked I turn it on so it can’t get stolen. I could be wrong but idk turning off your car while someone else is driving will be fishy in courts.
Invest in gps with updates every 30 secs. Give ONE warning. If warning fails to have desired results, respond directly to where vehicle is parked and take possession of it. That’s what I would do.

He destroyed that car in a couple days. Treat it like it’s yours, yeah the renter might take his own car above 100mph. But I guarantee he’s not dogging it out to where he’s likely blowing head gaskets, frying piston rings and stuff.

Honestly, what do you guys think are going to happen to Durangos, HellCats and other vehicles like that - especially when someone has to rent one because they can't afford to own one - people that own these vehicles dog them out everyday - so imagine what a person who only has a few days to drive it, is going to do - I own a Challenger, Camaro, and a Mustang - I don't let family members or anyone drive my cars - my uncle drove my Expedition like a fool about a year ago and I haven't let anyone drive my vehicles since - I just don't see how you guys think this is not going to happen when Muscle Cars and V8 engines are involved 🤷🏾♂️

Thanks! Yes all my vehicles are the same rates! But sometimes I charge a little more for this vehicle, also this vehicle get books more than all my other vehicles, which is why it's my biggest money maker!

We rented a 2023 Corvette from Turo. We returned it washed, vacuumed and even wiped down the dusty engine. Went over 100 miles and the guy did not even charge us for it. We treated the Corvette like in belonged to us. I even parked it inside of my garage. I tested the speed a couple of times. But nothing crazy.
Sorry to hear about this stretch of bad luck you're having. I, personally, would be very hesitant to rent any high performance vehicle on Turo. The only people that want to rent those kinds of vehicles are the same kind of people that WANT to tear shit up, atleast i would imagine. I'm more inclined to rent out vehicles that normal boring people would need - eco cars, mini vans, etc.

I hope Turo approves it - I'm on one claim now where a guest drove the car after a oil leak. The codes shows it turned off twice but he kept starting it and running it. I also think this is why I'm just buying Eco cars now going forward.

best outcome i see for him is getting a cleaning fee for the interior. that car has had a life consisting of nothing but getting the dogshit beat out of it by whoever rents it which is to be expected when renting a car like that. at that point the owner needs to factor in the cost associated with maintenance and repairs realistically consistent with the way it’s getting treated, good luck proving that one renter caused every bit of mechanical damage to the car thats had the balls beat off it for the last however many miles by a bunch of different people. id be upset too and the renter obviously mistreated the car but there’s probably not a whole lot to be done unless turos gonna try to make it right
Def not criminal but can file something on the civil side. But if the dude is broke, getting a judgement is useless. You can enforce it by getting it transcribed but all that costs money. You'd lose money trying to get nothing from a broke ass. Broke ppl switch bank accts often and know how to play the system.
I typically pay out of pocket for repairs and don't file supplementals and all that. Turo likes to delay payments. So this way I get my money back fast when I submit a receipt 🧾 (minus my deductible, of course)! This is to speed up repairs for moderate to major damages, so my vehicle won't have to be delisted for too long. But for more minor damages such as scratches/paint blemishes:
I also use Magic Erasers To wipe away at small to moderate scratches and pocket the money, when I do submit a damage claim/supplemental and not a receipt to Turo.
Great video man and good luck to you. I’ve had a very similar issue & the exact same thing fighting with them to get mechanical claim approved. I have a policy on higher end vehicles that there must be an age requirement and they need to have several good reviews established prior. However in all honesty the engine compartment looks a bit dirty & neglected that didn’t happen just over a weekend & may give signs of neglect on your part when submitting for repairs.

They should have a rental mode in the cars, where you only get 200 HP, 80 MPH top seed, and won't let you do burnouts. Kinda like a bump up from valet mode.

Yo tony I watch pretty much all the videos I’ve commented multiple times not sure if you remember me or not but I have a few turo cars and one was stolen and 30 days is up tomorrow (Feb 26) I know your scatpack was just stolen I have a couple questions if you wouldn’t mind helping me out
1. About how long was it after the 30 days that it took them to send the payment to the bank to pay off the vehicle?
2. Does it being paid off positively affect your credit since technically turo paid it off? I know that may be a dumb question but I just want to make sure😂
3. After it gets paid off and hits my credit I plan to go and buy 10 Jeep grand Cherokees (works best for me) do I have 30 days to purchase them all before it hits my credit? Or is it best to purchase them all within a few days?
Also how does the inquires work? Will they stop approving me after I certain amount of inquires since I’m getting 10 cars? How many banks did you tell the sales man to run your credit though per car
I’m 19 btw make about $125k/ year 705 credit score before the car turo is going to pay off hits my credit have 1+ year of primary credit history and 3 trade lines of 4 years of payments not really to worried about being approved I just want to do it right so I can get all 10 and maybe a personal car

@@cymobusyt2733 the car was stolen and not crashed so I had to wait 30 days before anything even started. After the 30 days about a week after I got a claims agent and maybe 2 weeks from then the money was in my account.
Best way to credit stack and retrieve 10 cars is gaining approvals through different financial institutions and confirm their only pulling one bureau, if your credit profile is strong across all 3 leverage each bureau. First play to run check out Bank of America’s business auto fleet 4 in 1 loan

My top speed in my scat is 157 prior to that it was 143 and my shit still good… in other words that’s man was just bugging to mess the car up cause these cars are durable and meant for hard driving. Wow, just watching this.....NOW i know what happened to my 2021 f150. My friend did just as this guy did to your durango....hard acceleration, towing heavy, excessive idling.....damn truck just gave up the ghost. I had the app on my phone and all these codes and issues came up 1 month after I told him to look after it....i was PISSED. Hope your able to get your durango fixed, thats a nice ride 👍

I don't know anything about the car rental business, but I know people and no disrespect but I cannot believe that you are just so surprised by this incident. If you have been in business a long time I just can't believe nothing like this has happened before as people don't respect your property. That looks like a sweet vehicle and I know it hurts to see her get turned out like that but just try not to take it so personally, I mean I would never do that but I had a father. Most people who have a lack of respect never learned in school or had a father. I remember when I was in elementary school in the 70's and early 80's here in FL I would look at the report cards and one of the categories was "Respects the rights of others" and "Conduct" they don't give grades to elementary kids for those things anymore, and they no longer whip your little butt with the paddle when you get out of line like I got, is just a breakdown in society in the formattable years altogether that has spawned a generation of disrespectful punks.

Thanks for sharing, feel your pain! It sucks being a small business owner and people don't respect your property. I'd say about 30% of the time my renters smoke weed in my cars and about half the time they don't return it with a full tank, even though I remind them on pickup my only 2 rules are no smoking and fill the gas up before dropping off. If you get good renters this can be a great business, but situations like this cause a lot of time, stress, and money out of pocket to get fixed plus the car can't be rented when it's in the shop.

87 octane won’t blow the engine. The car will pull timing automatically when it detects knock. I don’t think the engine is blown. It’s misfiring but a don’t hear a spun rod or bad bearing. The renter beat it and probably an injector went bad with all the stress on the car?

With all that technology, you need to get. What's called a disabler to where? When you see the car's park, you can shut it down. They have that for the trucking industry. I suggest you get that ASAP for your higher end vehicles and even the vehicles that don't cost that much.👌🏾💯💯

Sucks this happened but again i always wonder why people performance vehicles out. Being a car enthusiast the only reason i see anyone would specifically want to rent a performance model is to show off and play with something they cant afford to own.

You should expect people to drive fast with a fast vehicle. You should probably rent cars you dont have a liking for. Save yourself the headache

the engine noise could be because of the misfire, it’s a down cylinder that’s not firing. get everything repaired and pray the noise goes away. those engines still go for some good money

I can’t stand the people who treat other peoples belongings like it’s trash. I have an SRT and almost signed up to rent it out but bailed on the opportunity because I couldn’t sleep thinking about the worst case scenarios. I’m hella mad for you, and karma will catch him and teach him a good lesson

Yea anybody showing that level of neglect to the vehicle is definitely not putting premium fuel in the vehicle. That coupled with pushing the engine as hard as he was is a recipe for a check engine light.

Having a srt being rented isn’t safe . 9/10 the renters who want to drive those cars , are usually abusing them instead of treating them how much of their true value is . The abbreviation attacks reckless drivers instead of real car enthusiasts , people who want these type of cars have no ideas to properly care for these cars rather have consideration when renting one that’s the first thing on there mind when they get in is , “ let’s race “

Ever thought about tuning your cars and having a map loaded for renters that limits the power so people can’t beat on it? Would still sound and look good but have the power of a minivan

@@TonyLuxuryCars maybe do some research on you local performance shops and see who tunes mopars or find some RUclips videos on it, some cars can be tuned directly through the ECU and others Need a device plugged into the obd port but ultimately need a tuner to assist be it on a dyno or through e mail tunes

I have rented a charger Daytona. I drove it like it was mine. I had a fantastic time driving it. I only spun the tires just a tiny little bit once and I had the car a week.
It sounds like the lifters. A common issue with the Hemi. Redlining it probably blew them out.
You can bet the camshaft is roached.

I get the part of not wanting people smoking and stuff, but don’t rent fast cars IF YOU DONT WANT PEOPLE TO DRIVE HOW ITS INTENDED TOO. When I rent from turo it’s to experience a nice car and I always treat it and return it in better condition than what I got it, but I hate when people tell you not to speed in fast car

Brother, turo definitely needs to have some kind of ID with proof it’s the actual renter that way they can completely ban people like this and give owners a right to sue them. I will add tho this is just not a good car to be available to rent at all. A better option would be a Ford Explorer king ranch. I would do this option because it’s still a special vehicle while avoiding the wrong person to be attracted to it. I’d get it in white or silver def not black, only the rear window limo rest gonna have to stay at 30% to keep them honest.

Sorry that happened to you, I know it's a great way to make some extra money on the side, given the situation with these vehicles specifically, you have to be extremely careful. It should be a way you could make this person pay for all the damages. Only imagine the burnouts and drag racing this person was during with this durango. Dodge with a Hemi 5.7, 6.4, 6.2 HellCat should never be rented out.
