Doc Ock was also a mentor to Spidey in his PS5 game and the Raimi movie, so it makes even more sense as Doc was Peter's only father figure. He's one of the only villains Peter actually looked up to.
Which is always what makes his fall so great. It wasn’t only that he was a good man dealt a bad head. Lots of Spider-Man villains have that origin. It’s the fact that we see it from the view of Peter and that we know for a fact that he just had that so called “one bad day” that lead him to where he is now. Plus with the superior Spider-Man arc we also know for a fact he can be a do better then we ever imagined he could.

Had a friend that said violence is never the answer for the years until then I knew him, take a swing at a different friend(he deserved it) one night. Regardless that the punch barely deserved the name, the other friend got the point about some of his behaviors. The smile on my face when I got to say sometimes it IS the answer was glorious.

I wrote a version of Doc Ocks' origin that tied how he got his mechanical arms fused to him with Peter Parker gaining super powers. That version felt that since he was the one to "create" Spider-Man, Spider-Man was HIS creation, and therefore his to subjugate and control, hence the various battles over the years. In fact, in my version, Doc Ocks' genius was the creation of a type of energy that fused any two properties together (i.e. "fusion"), including biological to non-biological structures. Hence, again, my version of things, there was the Vulture, the Rhino, the Sand Man, Hydro-Man, etc, which was the result of Doc Ock's research. Heck, I even had it that the Black Cat had the equivalent properties of an actual cat, similar to Spider-Man having the equivalent properties of a spider. The story was out there, of course, but I liked the villain a lot, thus I raised his profile a bit.
