Doc Ock was also a mentor to Spidey in his PS5 game and the Raimi movie, so it makes even more sense as Doc was Peter's only father figure.
He's one of the only villains Peter actually looked up to.

Which is always what makes his fall so great. It wasn’t only that he was a good man dealt a bad head. Lots of Spider-Man villains have that origin. It’s the fact that we see it from the view of Peter and that we know for a fact that he just had that so called “one bad day” that lead him to where he is now. Plus with the superior Spider-Man arc we also know for a fact he can be a do better then we ever imagined he could.

I wrote a version of Doc Ocks' origin that tied how he got his mechanical arms fused to him with Peter Parker gaining super powers. That version felt that since he was the one to "create" Spider-Man, Spider-Man was HIS creation, and therefore his to subjugate and control, hence the various battles over the years. In fact, in my version, Doc Ocks' genius was the creation of a type of energy that fused any two properties together (i.e. "fusion"), including biological to non-biological structures. Hence, again, my version of things, there was the Vulture, the Rhino, the Sand Man, Hydro-Man, etc, which was the result of Doc Ock's research. Heck, I even had it that the Black Cat had the equivalent properties of an actual cat, similar to Spider-Man having the equivalent properties of a spider. The story was out there, of course, but I liked the villain a lot, thus I raised his profile a bit.

I always throught that Spidey was a success cos Marvel capitalized on a mistake that DC made.
DC's big hero's where all jocks. Superman, Batman, etc. I'm sure there where writers who thought 'everyone wants to be a jock'.
Although not initially DC, they almost hit paydirt with Shazam, because he was a kid, so the readers could identify with him.
Peter Parker was a nerd. The Readers where nerds and geeks. I'm a nerd and a geek. Marvel was writing for their readers. DC did not.

Rob. The return would be cool if it he learned from the experience. Letting it go doesn’t let it breathe in canon.

So, I know this is ridiculous to suggest after WandaVision and Loki, but . . . It's possible that this version of Strange (in No Way Home) is Mephisto. It explains the arrogance and what might be a Strange v. Spider-Man fight scene.
Clearly, the plot has One More Day influences, in which Mephisto was a central player. It would also help explain a true DS2: MoM.

I miss the old RNBE. Maaaaaaan lemme tell you something, Rob and Benny's banter was the stuff of legends. And superior spiderman was probably one of the best spiderman runs ever, which feels weird to say because it's not about Peter Parker.

Violence is a answer in the short term but it tends to breed more violence. But very often one must respond to violence with violence.

Might be worth noting that chemically induced sci-fi superpowers were quite popular right from the beginning of the Golden Age. You got fewer 'Magical' origins in the Silver Age, but the science heroes and villains were around from the beginning of the superhero genre. :)

I swear to all things holy if Marvel actually introduces the notion of Peter Parker going full metal and stops pulling his punches would be an INCREDIBLE story arc!!! Especially since it looks like they’re attempting to set up the Sinister Seven.
