Honestly what Spiderman PS4 did with Doctor Octavius/Doc Ock was fantastic and such a great depiction of the character that serves a complex level of sympathy and that emotional depth that pulls on your heartstrings while staying true to the character from the comics and maintaining an element of tragedy and pure unbridled hatred for Norman that is further emphasised with how truly intimidating and imposing this take on Otto is. As much as love Alfred Molina's Doc Ock, I too have to say Insomniac's take on the character is dangerously close to becoming my favourite take on the character
Walter White is a perfect comparison for this version of Ock. At first we think it's the story of a sweet man tragically becoming a monster, until we look back and see all the signs we missed. Otto was working on his plan for months, maybe years. All of the bitterness and hate and ambition we see later was always there, just carefully hidden behind a patient smile. The accident didn't drive him crazy, it just made him more impulsive and reckless. In the comics, he refers to himself as Master Planner whenever he's working towards a goal through goons and subterfuge. We see this in the game too, with him reaching out to the incarcerated villains and designing enhanced costumes for them for the escape.
3:08 actually, if you only watch the game’s cutscenes, the game is only around 2 hours 40 minutes. I think it’s impressive that Insomniac managed to make this character so great in the time that Doc Oc has.
Martin Li is another great villain for you to review. Insomniac made Mister Negative one of my favorite Spider-Man villains in this game. It was a reworking of a character I can only compare to what Bruce Timm and crew did to rework Mr.Freeze in the BTAS and making that character so much better. With the new game out an analysis on Martin Li will be very interesting.
