Superb depiction of what mob life is really like accompanied by absolutely sublime acting. Nothing glorious about that life. Just a constant struggle and living in states of high alert and anxiety, pressure etc. The only mob film that didnt for a split second make you say its cool being a gangster.
I seriously doubt Donnie would be introduced so quickly to the crew. An important meeting as well, looking like a cowboy. Unless just some of Lefty's bad judgment? Anyone agree??
Ronald Thomas in real life he was working with another family first but there activities did not warrant a big investigation. I think 1 year he was with them but they put him to low level stuff like fencing stolen fur coats etc . He got a break when someone introduced him to Toni Mira Then lefty stole him from Toni Mira. So he was in fact quite well known by a couple of family’s first. The film could not put every detail in as it would have to cover too much about the early stages.
Ronald Thomas well if you pay attention he meets lefty id say a good 2 years into his undercover op, an op that was supposed to be 3-6 months. Also, as someone else already mentioned. Joe pistone in real life, was working another family and was starting to get well known as an associate. The movie had to bypass a few things that happened. Had they showed everything it would easily be a 3-4 hour movie.
Pay attention to the movie I mean. When we see joe and his wife fight she mentions mentions it’s been 2 years and his is after he meets lefty. So he didn’t just meet lefty overnight it implies.
I love the subtle clues Donnie accidentally gives away like right at the start of scene when he crosses the road, he gives a little hand gesture like a cop a wiseguy would just cross
one of my all time favorite movies, here Al gives us a basic masterclass on how the mafia works, "friend of mine" or "Friend of ours" this last phrase is heard in multiple films and shows such as the Sopranos .
As soon as Captain and future Boss Joe Massino, who's not even mentioned in this movie, heard that Donnie Brasco was an orphan, he was immediately suspicious of him and forbade anyone in his crew to associate with Donnie. Massino even warned Donnie's captain Sonny Black not to trust Donnie. After captains Joe Massino and Sonny Black and their respective crews killed three other captains and were hunting a fourth captain named Bruno, it was Massino's idea to have Sonny Black give the contract to Donnie and to nobody else so that Donnie could prove he's not a fed. It turns out Massino's instincts were correct the whole time and then he himself went on to rat long after becoming boss.
many mafia films portray the underworld, and you just see it as an observer, through a dark glass. But Donnie Brasco the movie opened the door of that underworld and invited you to come in. This movie actually makes you feel like "a connected, a friend of mine" guy, perhaps some day a "made guy, when the books are opened". Few mafia movies make you feel that. We all feel how Joe Pistone/Donnie feels in this movie.
What a trip to see Bruno Kirby as a wise guy. Great actor and truly missed. He and Pacino are the bridge between the Godfather films and Donnie Brasco.
It was so weird seeing Michael Corleone being a low level soldier for the mob but it was 100% authentic because Pacino is a once in a lifetime actor. What a legend. Depo was amazing too.

The old man carmine galante chomping on the cigar there ,was rubbed out in my neighborhood of Bushwick Brooklyn. Joe and Mary’s on 203 Knickerbocker ave to be more precise.
Carmine was trying to declare himself the official boss without the commission ok and then started saying he was the boss of bosses. Neil dellacrose underboss of the Gambinos set up the hit on him.
Bruno is the exact reason why the American mob fell. People like him. Every generation they lost more and more respect for one another and that is dangerous

Carmine Galante (boss depicted here) should of remained as boss, he was turning the bonnanos into the most powerful family, so much so that the other families were panicking and conspired with traitors inside his own family to kill him, was a big mistake, he was a serious man who made hundreds of millions and propelled the family into the biggest earning one in New York for that short period and only second to the Chicago outfit nationally within a couple of years of being outta jail.
I happened to be in Tucson Arizona in 1968 when Joe Bannanos house was bombed, and they asked Joe jr if he knew who did it and he said no or I’d be out killing someone. lol

Gaggi was gambino
A masterpiece in all aspects. The more you watch, the more you realize how amazingly well put together this movie is.
i love how he empties his wallet while giving him a little lesson at the same time
“You Gotta Coupa Fazools”
I gotta take care of somthing..
Yeah yeah, whataya want a hundred?
Superb depiction of what mob life is really like accompanied by absolutely sublime acting. Nothing glorious about that life. Just a constant struggle and living in states of high alert and anxiety, pressure etc. The only mob film that didnt for a split second make you say its cool being a gangster.
"Get a pair of pants, will ya... Dis ain't no fuckin' rodeo..."
I had to go out and buy like 3 leather jackets after watching this lol
I bought a pair of pants since this ain't a fucking rodeo
1:37 Johnny Depp ends up taking that guy costume for the movie Black Mass 18 years later.
Sonny red a true high level enforcer, the menacing presence
You can see in Lefty's eyes, just how insignificant he is to the boss. Lefty knows it and there's nothing he can do about it. Even renting a yacht.
I seriously doubt Donnie would be introduced so quickly to the crew. An important meeting as well, looking like a cowboy. Unless just some of Lefty's bad judgment? Anyone agree??
I agree. It just looks really suspicious bringing an unknown to an important meeting like that. Plus he was the only un-made guy there.
Ronald Thomas in real life Donnie was working for about 8 months before he met lefty
Love this movie love every scene but the keep your mouth shut about me line is one of my all time favourites!!!!
The orphanage line should have tripped Lefty here.
57 people aren't gonna make this weeks vig
110 people aren't standing around looking dangerous either
Funny to see Michael Corleone as a small-time mobster
I love the subtle clues Donnie accidentally gives away like right at the start of scene when he crosses the road, he gives a little hand gesture like a cop a wiseguy would just cross
Mike Madson has an Epic Smirk...
one of my all time favorite movies, here Al gives us a basic masterclass on how the mafia works, "friend of mine" or "Friend of ours" this last phrase is heard in multiple films and shows such as the Sopranos .
"You going to make this weeks vig? I hope so!! Cause I don't want to have to come looking for you!! You hear me?!?!"
*I just sh@%^*t in my pants* 🤣
What did he mean by that?
@@sjacrane vig is the interest on money he owes...
'' it's the Boss Donnie '' love how Pacino says that with such awe, almost like it is the Pope himself is arriving
The boss being portrayed is Carmine Galante; acting boss of the Bonanno crime family.
They also should have showed how he got taken out
I just shit my pants, right
As soon as Captain and future Boss Joe Massino, who's not even mentioned in this movie, heard that Donnie Brasco was an orphan, he was immediately suspicious of him and forbade anyone in his crew to associate with Donnie.
JJRJ 85 This scene was making me think the same thing, this was close to the real deal.
Keep your mouth shut about me, lol
Thank You Eric. We watched this movie so many times. God Bless You!
What a trip to see Bruno Kirby as a wise guy. Great actor and truly missed. He and Pacino are the bridge between the Godfather films and Donnie Brasco.
Aw come on now, he nailed it when he played young Clemenza in Godfather II. He was an awesome wise guy actor.
Why did the wise guys kill Bruno in the basement? Did they think he was a rat?
According to the movie. IRL that didn't happen, that person, Nicky, went on to become underboss@@michaellalli7693
I absolutely love this scene one of the best in Donnie Brasco n in.films it speaks a lot to me
rip bruno kirby, what a talent
I like how sonny black just looks at donnie with a blank expression when he says how you doing, lol
"this ain't a fuckin' rodeo"
Absolutely Brilliant The Boss, is Amazing
Great acting, making Lefty so insignificant....
Hey Lefty gimme my money back damn it.
At the end of the day,i’d be gone straight to the FBI asking for refund.🤦♂️
Bruno is still alive. Carmine Persico is dead Bruno is the last one still alive from that era.
the Killer of *Carmine Galante*
Baldo amato too. Serving life along with vinny basciano
Pacino is one of the BEST actors of our time. So many great films, i've lost count.
0:20 hit the ‘like’ button if you’ve been working ‘Fazools’ into your everyday vocabulary.
Been workin that in for about 15 yrs or so.. it's funny..
I'm guessing a fazool is flexible in terms of value, a five, a ten, a hundred, a whatever, given the occasion.
It was so weird seeing Michael Corleone being a low level soldier for the mob but it was 100% authentic because Pacino is a once in a lifetime actor. What a legend. Depo was amazing too.
Lefty: " I just shit my pants man " lmfaoooos
“its the Boss Donnie”
Get a pair of pants, this ain't a rodeo😂😂
Sonny reds look at Donnie. He knew he something right then and there
1:25 sonny black stare says it all
"HI SONNY!"
are you gonna make vig this week? I dont want to coming look after you, you hear me? *I just sh*#@$t in my pants* 😂
One of the best movies ever.
MusiCizzLife1729 Nice gag
I know a lot of ppl say this but damn Sonny Red is a scary looking dude when he pops back in the camera again and stares. Even when he’s getting shot up he looks scary lol.
"Keep your f mouth shut about me" lool
Bruno is the exact reason why the American mob fell. People like him. Every generation they lost more and more respect for one another and that is dangerous
Stugots666x bruno was one of the shooters that whacked carmine galante in real life.
Jesus loves you
neil I never knew that
They started to branch off within the family and were fighting each other
@kizz ms13 is not organized like da mob
Great scene. 2 Different Lincoln's used here... 1st is a 78-79 Town car . 2nd is the later smaller Lincoln I believe Continental 4 door.. looking at the opera window. maybe an 81. The had a Continental Hump on trunk. Small point out
"Who dis guy?" These mob guys don't like new faces. I can't blame them.
Lefty looks in amazement and awe at that old cigar chomping grease ball boss
The guy who played Carmine Galante absolutely nailed it.
Best scene in the movie
@1:51 "Next time ill yell four"
"Should I goto the hospital and see him? Or is that too fucked up?"
Gar Nunce no ice. Make sure to let the water run so it gets cold.
Great scene
love, hate, admire, fear, respect...all in one glimpse..all in one sec...what a great acting
I happened to be in Tucson Arizona in 1968 when Joe Bannanos house was bombed, and they asked Joe jr if he knew who did it and he said no or I’d be out killing someone. lol
Love the Lincoln Car, the Boss arrives in!! Pure Classy!!!🗽🌹🗽🌹
They are 2 different Lincolns , look carefully.
a Lincoln is better than a Cadillac
1977 Lincoln Continental first part of the car pulling up, then presto a 1981-1983 Mark VI.
MrLips635 good eye
MrLips635 Didn’t realize that haha.
Because it's a Ford product, so a piece of crap. They needed 2 to make that short scene. The other one broke down, If they'd use a GM product such a caddy, they'd needed only one. By the way, wise guys normally drive GM products such as Caddies, Buick Electra or Olds 98.
MrLips635 yeah this movie's weak
Is that supposed to be a big deal?
Lefty out there wanting the boss to see, I’m here, like an old dog wagging his tail. lol 😆
The vibe of this scene is just…. I wish i could watch it for the first time again
@2:19 Carmine "Lilo" Galante. One of the most ruthless and most hated ever in Cosa Nostra.
After Richie ;)
Andrew Fury Richie Aprile
Almost. But Richie Aprile is an fictional character in tv series named Sopranos. Great series tho. Who I meant was Richard Fusco.
Marshall Street Until he met his end in Bushwick...
It’s rusty rastelli
