I love how in his big moment they didnt make him dependant on Yamadas affirmation, they made it a message about self love and self affirmation. Yamada takes a back seat here while still being a big pillar of support, the one who pulled it off was him.
That speech is one of my favorite scenes in the whole manga/anime, seeing how much Ichikawa has grown really makes me so proud, seriously what a beautiful scene and what a wonderful message as well.
Mangakawa is in someway a concept of self love, and Ichikawa rejecting him is the self hate he's been using for years Accepting it's fine to love himself is the biggest step in his developent i believe, followed by the realization that Yamada does like him It's a perfect way to show that "You can't be loved if you don't love yourself"
I do love the focus on self love, that’s so important and it really touched my heart watching him grow since the beginning and that’s beautiful storytelling 😭
I like how pick-up senpai actually does like Yamada, but realises he has no chance with her - so he purposefully confesses in front of Ichikawa as a ritual to end his crush, and then leaves the two alone in the room together in hopes of helping them get together. He may be a creep, but he does have some principles.
My favorite anime is gurren Lagann, and I haven’t had another inspirational, self-affirming moment to that same level in the longest time until I read these chapters. I love how in Gurren, its earnest ridiculousness makes its message earned, while in contrast, Bokuyaba has a ridiculous earnestness in developing Ichikawa up to this moment. On top of all that, a typical romance turning point to boot. The goat, and we still got 6 eps of greatness to go
Seeing him realize is a dream come to reality. SO much of those karte teases don't finish with "me" and I get so mad at his inner heart. Also that speech was so great. His progress is absolutely top tier this season. I wanted more of his sister but his friends was super good, putting gel in his hair to help out lol even though he looked like he was about to join another anime which everyone knows.. Mikey!
0:00 Don't move... Her vision is based on movement... 2:18 It's probably a testament to how much we're social animals that I think it's the most common phobia of all time. 2:36 Yamada in the box! God, Yamada's seiyuu is great. That little "Otsu!" or whatever it was was so damn cute. 4:49 Look at that little shit! I love him. Protect that smile. 6:39 She can feel the Yanmada rising within her as someone else touches her man... 7:42 This little statement shows how far he's come. To quote the man himself from a few episodes ago, "I want to believe. In miracles. In myself." 8:35 I love how whenever he gets stressed he keeps trying to tug his shorter hair back over his one eye. For whatever reason, it soothes him to have part of his face hidden. Presumably why he adopted the style in the first place. 9:29 I kind of ship it?? Even though this is just an anime addition. Not gonna stop me. 9:52 The chuuni briefly threatens to reemerge under stress, but thankfully he's past that. Just gotta file that under "weird intrusive thoughts." 10:47 Now, this. This is my second-favorite moment in the entire manga. I've been waiting for us to get to this point since season 1 came out. It's the culmination of all of Ichikawa's character development, and an important lesson for us all: before you can love anyone else, you must first love yourself. 12:35 You are on this feels trip and the bus is careening off a cliff. Strap in! 12:55 THAT'S OUR BOY! That's our BOY! Greatest romcom protagonist of all time! OF ALL TIME! 14:53 Nanjou's a really interesting character. Every time he edges close to being irredeemable, he pulls himself back with a kind action (like being the first to pull Kyoutarou's bike out after his harassment of Yamada in the first episode). And every time he edges close to being a genuinely good person, he shows a little more of his kinda dirtbag nature. He seems to be at a crossroads of sorts in his life. Even though Yamada won't return his feelings, maybe this experience of genuine love for someone will change him for the better. To quote Alexandr Solzhenitsyn, "The way is not closed for him to become a true human being, but only through suffering." 15:50 This is a candidate for the greatest line in the entire manga/show, and the only reason I say it's only a candidate is because there are other ones just as amazing. It's SO good! THIS is how you write, people! 16:59 You skipped past it, so I'll talk about it here: that last bit about contacting Yamada was an anime addition, but I think it fits his characterization as someone caught between his noble and ignoble natures. It feels like a kind of synthesis of the two: on the face of it, it's a bastardous thing to say. But, as the lady implies with her question, he said it fully well knowing it'd sour his relationship with Yamada. It feels like he was also decisively removing himself from the running, from being someone Ichikawa would ever worry about, so as to set him up to go out with Yamada. He further reinforces this belief since he later on stops Kyoutarou from walking out, saying he wanted to leave the two of them alone.
@@lunateavale I'm glad I went with that one instead of my first idea, which was just Yanderemada. Doesn't roll of the tongue as well, does it? And I'm glad you enjoy them! Watching along and commenting these has become one of my favorite parts of my Sunday.
I REALLY appreciated this episode. They could have gone the easy route of Yamada being the one that inspired him to give a great speech and nobody would complain. They instead chose to highlight his personal growth and self-love by having "manga guy" be the one to get him through it. Great writing all around!

I feel violated. My meat is only sniffed with consent 😳. Chapters cover are 82-85. Really fantastic adaptation with a couple changes here and there. This was an episode I was looking forward to the most and it turned out to be the best of the series so far! There isn’t a moment when reading the corresponding chapters during the speech that I don’t tear up. The episode did a number on me. Double whammy from Kyo and Anna with their words. It’s only when you love yourself you’ll be able to properly see and appreciate the feelings other have for you. 🎉❤❤
Great episode and heartwarming. Our boy is growing up and now realizes that Yamada likes him. And Pick Up Senpai, hope this is the last we see of him. Where they will go from here, we will have to see. A good episode for the halfway point of the season. Btw 5:00 the sister using the “Wab” (or Vic rub) is so relatable.
I love your reactions. And i allways look forward to your videos. Whispers recommendation ( The angel next door spoild me rotten ) lol. Have a great day.
Thank you so much!!😭😭 I know you’re a patron as well I see you 😎😁 a few people have requested it so I’ll add it to my list! I appreciate you watching and enjoying this show with me 😁😁

A few, hopefully he does keep growing and keeps trying to improve himself so he can stop being any amount of creepy and just be a good guy 😂

I loooove your laugh XD
3:00 Funny you should say that. Anna's VA did a cover of the S2 ending theme. It's fantastic.
I listened to it earlier and loved it!!
Both the singers of the OP and ED also covered the ending theme as a collab: ruclips.net/video/cfI0JozP0S8/видео.htmlsi=mEbX2bT2bNMZ4bpv
