Japan is really interesting! I'm from South Korea and I'm gonna go there someday XD Japan is really close from here too!
Japan is really close from Korea and many Japanese visit there for day-trips. I miss Korea so much >< Thanks for watching! Have a great day
My sister married a Japanese guy 12 years ago and now is living in Shiga prefecture, near Biwa Lake.
I got to visit Japan twice on her wedding day (a week prior for the ceremonial purpose) then for her first son's birth 3 years later. We only got around Shiga (mainly Biwa Lake and the mountain), Kyoto, and Osaka thou... but that already took around 3 weeks.
Her parent-in-law speaks in kansai dialect, so communication is kinda hard since I'm only self-taught in Japanese... (maybe around level 3 or 4 at that time, not sure since I never took the test).
I love Biwa Lake. I went there for Summer fest because I was a big fan of Uverworld and it was amazing! It must be nice to go around there for 3 weeks with the family :) I hope I can go there again with my Grandma. She loves Kyoto!
yeah, its a really nice place for a picnic around the lake... or on the mountain.
unfortunately, both time I visited Japan on November-December so it's fairly cold (especially for me who's been living in tropical island with 30-35°C being the normal temperature). Wish I could visit around spring next time.
and my favorite dish is oden... especially in the cold weather. :p
A really great lesson for me who wants to dug deeper in Japan History :D thankss
Glad you liked it! Share it with your friends who wants to learn as well :)
Lots of love❤ to Japan🇯🇵 from India🇮🇳
Wonderful video! Thank you for posting this.
Miyuki, I love the original video, and I love that I learned new stuff from you, that's the best kind of reaction video, where the reactor expands your knowledge!
P.S. I love all the funny memes you put into your videos!
Thank you so much! It means a lot to me
Geography Now used to be one of my favorite channels. I was hype when they finally came out with the Japan episode. Happy to see your reactions!
BRUH the coffin dance remix at the end
My friend Hyuman made that remix
Great video! Your reaction video to the history of Japan video was how I found your channel. Keep up the great work.

I love Japan 🇺🇸❤🇯🇵
Just subscribed yesterday and I have already been sharing your content. Great stuff.
Thank you fam
Thanks Miyuki-sensei I love Geography Now!
You know, history and geography go hand in hand. Wow, amazing video! I liked how you added more to the original video as there were a lot of stuff that I did not know about Japan. Its reasons like those discussed in the video that made me want to learn the Japanese language as Japan is a fascinating country with a unique culture that can't be found anywhere else on Earth. I also enjoyed the memes too. I wish my Latin and Greek language teacher made equally entertating videos like you. Thank you for accepting my request. I didn't think this would happen. I appreciate it.
Thanks again for your request and I really enjoyed watching the original video :) There are so much stuffs to talk about when it comes to geography and history right. Anyways, hope you can share this to your friends and fam. Have a great day Kyle san!
@@lifeasmiyuki You too! I did show your reaction video on Bill Wurtz’s “history of Japan” video to my history teacher and he said it introduced him to topics he didn’t know about like the Jomon and Yayoi cultures.

"May the mandarin-orange Kami smite thee! Eughhh!"👊
Which reminds me, out of ALL the rock and metal bands that I have listened to, which numbers in the thousands, has any of them sung about their local produce? Hmm...
Awesome video Miyuki! ❤ Glad you got around to this one. Geography Now is a great channel, worth more attention. Something you may want to check out is the China's Reckoning: Demographic Collapse video from Polymatter. I know you usually focus on Japan related content, but this has a great breakdown and discussion around the aging demographic crisis China may experience (which probably also applies to Japan, as you pointed out).
Thanks for watching and suggesting
very nice reaction😎
Your intro music reminds me of my time on Nippon Maru everytime an announcement is made!🙂
Holy sh*t, I just realised that "TO KYO" is "KYO TO "backwards.
Yes although kanji is different, they got the KYO same lol
Before all the craziness in the world happened, I really wanted to see Shikoku and the most southern areas of Japan. Mostly to compare how the agricultural industry thrives from livestock and farmland there. But now imma have to go to fox island as well as cat island
are you a history teacher?? 😲 woow !I need to know everything about it as a Japanese lol
Yay more history stuff! Love miyuki s takes on current issues.
I can't believe I never noticed that before. Tokyo - Kyoto, To-kyo Kyo-to
That shade at Shikoku had me like: “Bruh, that’s where Yuzu and Melon-Pan come from!”
That aside, I enjoyed this 😅
As a one-time resident of Kochi... and current resident of Matsuyama's sister city - Sacramento, California, USA... I definitely do not like shade thrown at Shikoku. There is actually a lot to see and do in the four prefectures there.
Shikoku actually produced some of Japan's greatest military leaders and literary greats, most of them from Ehime.
Very interesting, thanks for adding so much to the already great original video.
Also it made me so happy that you mentioned France. We did do a few good things that other countries should look into. Lots of bad too, but hey, we try :)
I am glad you enjoyed the vid! Thanks for watching
Can somebody tell me what France did to solve the ageing population please ?
@@T0xiikGaz14 Maybe I'm not the best person to ask, but ... nothing ? We don't really encourage women to produce a lot of children, we let things happen on their own ? Maybe we're wrong, but we're fighting the government over so many things it's hard to keep track.
@@gamesseg I know i'm french x)
But as she mentioned France as an exemple to follow regarding the aging population i was wondering what she was talking about and i didn't find anything really specific while doing some research myself so i would like to know what she meant ^^
I know we are the country with the highest birthrate in Europe (which has been declining fast for decades now), but other than that i don't see something specific.
*me drinking sake watching your reactions on Japan*

Love your reactions
Kanpai 🍻 thanks for watching and hope you enjoy the content here :)
It's fun to watch your videos as a Dutch History teacher. We don't teach much East-Asian history in the Netherlands (though it has recently changed a bit), and if we do it's mostly Chinese or WW2 related. When I visited Japan in 2019 I made it a personal goal to go to Nagasaki and Dejima, where Dutch traders during the 17th century were given a trading post by the shogun. When I talked to Japanese during my visit they would mostly know my country because of Huis Ten Bosch theme park and Anton Geesink, who was the first foreigner to become jūdō champion.
I see a channel blowing up right here, folks! Also, a metal song about squeezed mandarin juice? OKAY.
Thank you for making all your videos! You have become my new favorite content creator and I cant wait to watch your all new videos. Your content is helping alot in coping with covid stuff. You really deserve alot more subs and praise for your work. I wish good things will come to you!
i think by "runt of the litter" he meant it was the smallest of the 4 islands, not an insult.
Also it's kind of the least mentioned main island in any context when discussing Japan. Or that's the feeling I've had so far.
It’s a fine day with you around! 🐉
They also made a video explaining the prefectures of Japan
Please react to that video
Yes!!! Please do!!!
thanks for the suggestion!
During my time in the US Navy, I spent a total of 18 months in Misawa Japan and it was some of the best times I've had. I hope to visit Japan again sometime.
Definitely my dream destination
16:00 The main reason to continue using kanji and hiragana together is because Japanese actually has a relatively small number of phonemes compared to many other languages which results in a large number of homonyms. In a phonetic alphabet language like English, these homonyms are differentiated by spelling: to, two, and too, for example. In Japanese, the kanji differentiates between homonyms in written language. For example, 本当(really), 奔騰 (soar), and 本島 (main island) are all pronounced "hontou."
nice
I love Japan. Since I was little.
Back in 2016 I visited Tokyo on a crazy fast business trip for the company I was working as a Metrology Technician. And Although I wasn't able to see much of Japan (I spent more time on a plane than in the land...really) what I saw really impressed me.
Everything looked so clean and organized, even the chaos of Shibuya crossings and the rush to the subways by the morning.
And the people were so nice. The food, even cheap hotel food lol... very good.
I was planning a much more calm trip to Japan last year... but a wild pandemic appeared... nothing I can do about it :/
I really hope to return. Spend more than 48 hours in the country lol
The young generations of Japan, ages between the newly school entered to about 40-50 have NO IDEA what happened in WW2. Absolutely NO IDEA because they do not teach anything about their dark history as a nation of war criminal. When I studied there, I was shocked how in modern world this can actually happen and happens systemically by own government in order to hide and cover their wrong doings. All of my Japanese friends were surprised when I told them what actually happened. They just could not believe that their own country, nation, had done it. They were only taught that Japan had to do it to save the Asian countries from being eaten by western powers. This is so erroneous..
I love Japanese culture. I really do. I love the kindness, the food, the cities, the temples, the animation, technology and so on.. But in fact, I love it so much that I personally think truth must be learned also regardless of whether it is good or bad. It is true that in Japan, you do get to often see rallies on public streets targeting the foreigners. They will scream out on megaphones "Kill the Koreans and all other foreigners ! go home mutts!". These are the extremists that still believe in the Japanese imperialism. The governing regime currently actually is the far rightist imperialism moral biased. When I first experienced it, I was in total shock.. appalling moment as it happened before my eyes.. Something you would never see in America.. Hate speech or any form of hate towards certain race or group of people here in America are all considered crime. You would get arrested and held responsible for inhumane act. Unfortunately, it is freely done in Japan with no laws to stop or punish. I felt very uncomfortable and angry as an American guy.
It is quite a contradiction to Japan what the Germans have done to earn their reputation back. I just feel very unfair for the young Japanese people being oppressed and lied to about their own history. They have all the rights to know. And perhaps learn from it that wars do not solve problems but bring disasters to all involved.
Had to comment for the great love for Japan I have..
Hello Miyuki. Nice reaction on video.
I hope you can do a live video about Sekigahara, Sekigahara memorial museum. Or you can refer me to a site that has virtual museum tour.

About the population problem.
There are ways to deal with the problem of lower population leads to a decrease in education standards.
I am from Brazil and we are on the other extreme of the spectrum.
It seems that the more our population grows, the less our education grows.
That is mostly due to politics that think that "smart people thinking for themselves is bad for our "plans" ".
One thing in Japan I think that helps with keeping the education in a high level is the social pressure (which also when too much leads to a high suicide rate).
So maybe not one of both extremes may be beneficial for japan.
Having a healthy pressure for auto-improvement (chosing and comitting to a path [ 道 ]) and keeping the students' spirit and motivation alit, might be an interesting (albeit a bit idealistic) idea. But then, you'd need to probably change the way of teaching, to make understanding why/how more important than memorizing (99% of the countries choose to make people memorize).
Probably a good idea would be to revisit how martial artists and craftsman pass on the knoledge of their crafts, which is the 'traditional Japanese way to learn' and use it in schools and Universities.
17:44 you should make video on Shintoism 😏

Regarding the lack of sexual interest... To me it seems to stem from the work ethics.
Most Japanese people seem to be terribly overworked and massive overtime has become normalized. No wonder the interest in sex goes down. Stress and fatigue is not exactly an aphrodisiac.
esse youtuber fala tão rápido que mesmo eu colocando o vídeo na velocidade 0.5, ainda ficava rápido de mais para eu conseguir entender o inglês dele.

Did he just call Shōgun Tokugawa Ieyasu, *Tokugawa Leyasu?!?*
Sure, diplomatic relationships between both countries are ok but as a japanese descendant from Brazil, I'd say that on a day to day basis, how we are perceived, accepted and treated in Japan is far from ideal.
It's kinda weird to get that feeling of "non-belonging" on both sides. In Brasil we're "too japanese" and in Japane we're not "japanese enough"
Suzuki Ichiro is legendary
5:30 NANI?!?!
I think one of the reasons behind the falling birth levels is the work ethic. The amount of hours that people work in Japan, does not leave that much time for sleep let alone anything else, and raising a child is a full time job of it's own. (please note I am not saying women, should stay at home. I'd hapy stay at home, if my wife want to work). Today with the cost of things both partners need to work to afford to live. So with long hours, costs, it's understandable that the bith rate is dropping, and with the government being focused on getting people to work, to support the economy. I can not see the situation getting better in Japan, any time soon.
Shikoku is very beautiful!!! I visited Naruto and I've been desired to go for a trip to the islands of 濑户内海!!

I read a study before that if the current trend in population continues, there will be no Japanese (or pure Japanese) left in 40 years... but I think that estimate is exaggerated.
You should watch his video about france he made. He made a parallele between france and japan like france European twin country with the traditions, food and history (specialy the middle age with cattles). I understand the dificult relation between Japan, corea and China because of the history. We had the same in europe (I am french) Specialy With Germany but we wanted to be Friends (No More War) and with a lot of diplomacy, We made th European Union. It's not perfect but we care about it.

So, understand that this is how most American teenagers learn geography now. Lol. I love Barbs and his take on geography. It’s funny, and again, any jokes made are made with love. It’s common in the English-speaking world to make fun of people if you like them. So, it’s all meant with love. It’s not meant as an insult. The art of “giving people shit” is definitely a part of English-speaking culture. Though, I’d argue the Europeans are better at it than we are in America. Lol. For the record, I drive a Japanese car, and it’s fantastic. Lol.
