    this is real af. i just finished playing 4 years of d1 ball after pro ball not working out. feel like idk who i am or that i really matter anymore. the feeling of truly being alone with your thoughts and yourself is more than ever. this needs to be talked about more, once the camera and lights go away you feel like no one sees you anymore.

      So true! Just know that you’re not alone and that this is another part of being an athlete. It will pass but you have to find your identity outside the game and your true purpose.

      This is how I felt after college track and field. It's like I lost myself. Track was amazing to clear thoughts and emotions. More like running pushed them down more. One thing is finding yourself in Christ Jesus (not the boring and religious Jesus)

    I feel Fukin bad for stopping my sport. I thought about it for the last year now. I play it since I’m 6 and now I’m 16. I cant walk for like two days after every game and I fucked my shoulder already. I‘m scared of stopping but now I spoke to my coaches and made the decision to stop. The sport is a constant for me, like an anker in life. It’s gonna be hard to find something like this again. Thanks for this vid.

    man, I just won yesterday a medal on hammer throw on my last year in college and since I'm finishing college, idk what to do next, been doing this for a long time and is hard for me to leave it, Is part of me, I wanna continue cause I'm 23 and young for this sport, but where I'm from is really hard to get support by the federation and is frustrating for athlete who are making progress in this sport, I really don't know what to do...

    • @derrickfurlowjr
      @derrickfurlowjr  Месяц назад +1

      I hear you brother! Sounds like it’s decision time. You either go after those dreams somewhere else where you can get support or you get ready to make the transition into your next chapter. Either way will be tough, but you have to pick your tough. Lastly I’d say, that’s what you do, that’s not who you are! So don’t let the sport define you. It has equipped you with the tools to be successful in whatever you decide to do next!

    how to you handle it being ended abruptly due to injury? I was injured in a mens league game before heading overseas, then covid hit. Covid caused so many financial issues I couldn’t keep pursuing my dream. I never had closure, and I fight myself every day knowing I could still go play

    • @derrickfurlowjr
      @derrickfurlowjr  9 месяцев назад

      That sucks but you’re not alone. The game will come to a end by choice or force and it’s happening everyday. If you can still play the question is what’s stopping you from playing?

      That's not true have you ever seen what a cornerback a wide receiver a point guard a lot of different positions what they look like in regular street clothes or with a regular suit on they look like an average man a lot of them are only 5'9 5 ft 11 6 ft they don't look like anything out in society so I'm not sure what you're talking about the attract people with their body they're normal men that have to make it happen after the sports career is over and it can be a nightmare because they weren't focused on the things that all you other people were focused on since you were 14 years old which was probably being pushed into a high paying career... A lot of you cats have been groomed since you were 13 or 14 and to be coming dentists businessman financial institution people etc but us athletes all we cared about was lifting weights getting a scholarship to play football and hopefully playing in the NFL... And then all of a sudden you don't make it and you're 22 years old and you have almost no other skills and it's no joke...
