LS is the new beginners weapon, at least that's what I think based on Capcom giving us the LS at the start, when the SnS had that role since the first game. That doesn't mean the LS doesn't have depth, but I think is more friendly and feels stronger than the SnS, if you don't know what you are doing. Try explaining perfect rush and guard points to a new player. LS and its meter is easier to understand.
Yea its really hard for the monster to hit you when your do a zagging all around and flying this way and that way. Now if only there was a way to keep team mates from fainting wheb vsing apex rathion
@@westenev Me who somehow always gets knocked off when I do the beyblade move because the monster decided to do a attack that hitbox is just pure unfair
Nobody ever talks about how outrageously aggressive the lance is. You jump around between the monsters legs like a maniac so you can spear the monster to death and you either dodge or counter EVERYthing the monster throws at you, ignoring it like a kid throwing a trantrum. As you learn the lance, it becomes more and more about imposing your playstyle on the monster, attacking without interruption, as opposed to waiting for openings and trying to time one big perfect hit. It's amazing. And it just got buffed so it's less non-viable than it used to be 👍
I've had so many moments as a hammer main where the monster is about to hit me while I'm attacking but the timing was so good that I slam them in the face right as they get to me and they either step back and drool or KO
Lance is so much fun, my first ever hunt, all the way back in Monster Hunter Dos, was wih a Lance, I'll never forget charging against the Velocidrome and finally killing it, so cool. When Monster Hunter World was about to come out and we could play the beta, I played a couple hunts with the Lance and it was so fun, getting up in the monsters face and just relentlessly attacking them, blocking and countering, and when they tried to run away, I would just charge after then and make them flinch so my friend could caught up with them and resume the beatdown. I've fallen in love with the Charge Blade in World, and have been using that ever since, but Lance has never left my heart, I should go back to it...
Literally. The damage may not be as crazy as some other weapons but because youre constantly on the monster's ass poking it, the damage output is nutty. If the monster runs away you can also chase it down really quickly so youre just constantly attacking and attacking. Monster hits you? Just riposte and attack more
the lance is far from aggressive. any weapon can do sick moves, that doesnt change the fact that lance is by far the least aggressive weapon in the game
As one of the 10 hunting horn mains I must talk about this incredible weapon. The primary goal of all other weapons is to kill, but with the hunting horn your goal is to perform beautiful songs while you bash the monster skull in, and you still buff yourself and your crew ! I loved it in world and i love it in rise. HH for life
I am new to this game, and some discouraged me from using the hunting horn because they said it is a "support" type of weapon and it kind of sucks to use it if you are playing solo. I am the type of gamer who always wanted to do support so I initially have this as my main option. I tried the hunting horn myself. It satisfies my trigger-happy self and you got beats while you hit monsters, plus I find other weapons too complicated and overwhelming for my simpleminded ass, so this is my weapon of choice.
Viable != Well balanced. Every weapon can solo any monster in the game with little issue, but some are easier and stronger and do more damage. I love Lance but it is objectively weaker than LS but it still works and is fun
I love this comment section, it's just everyone talking about how much they love their main :) for me there's something so fluid about Gunlance combat, you've got a ton of options in Full Burst, Wyrmstake, poke shelling, Wyvernfire, and the Silkbinds so you have an answer for every attack and opening a monster throws your way! I love the "bag of tricks" hunting style and i always use tools like flash bombs, traps, and bait to help me out
@@knightofulthar6627 the only problem with LS I see is that you get free evades with literally no drawback for you. Lance might have a huge shield, but you still take some damage and lose stamina. Overall this gives LS the best defense. Which is odd but since it's not about pvp, just a minor problem and doesn't mean the weapon is for noobs. You still have to put in hours to learn patterns and timings like every other weapon.
@@knightofulthar6627 I usually have no problem with LS, it's just that they don't have a lot of synergy with other weapon types. As a hammer main, when I can get a big bang combo on a downed monster because a LS is right next to me, it just makes the party seem less like a party... idk I'm just sayin, a slicey weapon always has room for the tail 🤷♂️
Another main gunlance present. Many say that it is a slow weapon with little damage, but for some reason I love playing it. With the addition of the Rocket I get enormous mobility. It reassures me to know that I have a gigantic shield that protects me from any attack and that in Rise also allows me to make counters. And in general, I love its animations and explosions
Great video! I'd like to add a note: If you don't like how a weapon feels at first, come back to it once you have better equipment because some skills you get later in the game greatly enhance the weapons
Big agree on this! Monster hunter also feels totally different from when you first start out, compared to after a few large monster hunts. I tried a bunch of different weapons out at first and hated almost all of them, but once my understanding of the game improved, I came back and found a lot of weapons I still love to this day.
This is the first monster hunter game where I've essentially cleared all arena quests. They're so fun and diverse and i learned alot about the different weapon types. I usually play with Great Sword or Bow but i somehow got the best results with Gunlance and Hunting Horn. It's so strange.
Rise is the only game that has arena quests scale for solo, so it will feel more "fun" and "fair" compared to other games. Arena quests are only scaled for 2 players in other games.
Because Hunting Horn is actually broken strong (for casuals) this iteration. The weapon got streamlined so far that it actually became one of the easiest weapons to play imo. Especially if you are early in the game (or very late) and you have health restore as a melody. Screw healing, just bonk twice and recover hp for everyone that way!
I'm a Switch Axe Main since World, and i've used It in Older Games Too (3U, 4U, GU.), and... I LOVE both versions of World and Rise, you can do EVERYTHING (Except blocking attacks BUT WHO NEEDS A SHIELD WHEN YOU'RE A WALKING DPS MACHINE? TUE BEST OFFENSE IS THE BEST DEFENSE.) You can make a ton of Damage, you can poison, Paralize, cut talils, break parts, EVEN STUN thanks to every type of Phials system, having the power of a Sword and an Axe, you can grapple to a monster's part and POWER UP YOUR SWORD LIKE IF THAT THING WAS A MOTORCYCLE AND THEN B O O M Unless you miss your gauge and accidentally recharge the Sword mode and being kicked to saturn by a Monster Yeah, i love Switch Axe
One thing I have learned during my 10 years of MH is that each monster is easier or harder depending on the weapon you use, for example try a rathalos with bow and dual blades, you'll see that with a bow is a the best thing ever
@@fbmb1337 The way I use CB against nargacuga is playing It like I would with the hammer, predicting when to land an elemental atack to the head, but since It is slower you have to anticipate more
As a noob, dual blades has been good to me and the most fun option I've tried. There are only a few combos to learn and you only have to pay attention to one gauge. However, since you don't have any defence, knowing when to naruto run away is key. I've also tried Hunting Horn a bit for multiplayer purposes, but I guess my brain has a hard time retaining two different sets of buttons at the same time. Playing a different weapon is almost like playing a different game in that sense.
Everyone says DB is easy but LS and SnS are the ones with easily abusable s and strong counters that put the shield weapons to shame both defensively and DPS wise lol (aside from CB I guess)
@@renno2679 If you didn't know, Demon Flight has a tonne of s all the way to the peak of the jump if you don't hit any buttons. It's a bit of down time but you can really abuse it for "safe damage" or just as a get out of jail free card since any right click leads into it as long as you're not holding a direction.
back in mhw I also main dual blades first, and pick up hunting horn later like yours. sure it takes some time getting used to hunting horn since it is a lot slower, it has different type of damage and playstyle, and the part you attack is also different. but once you can use it well, it's pretty convenient. it's more fun for me to try to think of different approach with fighting same monster with different weapon and tactics.
@@RJWoodMoroseTenacity I'm a DB main whose first MH game is rise. I tried to play LS and it is just not for me, I can pull off the counters (tried both special/sacred) in training mode but DB was just so much easier to learn and put into practice. easily abusable s? DB's shrouded vault is probably one of the easiest things to use in the world
Finally, a video that acknowledge us the 'a little bit of each weapon' guys. I have my favorites like everyone (switchaxe and charge blade mostly), but I personally can't ever stand to use the same weapon for too long, I feel like I'm missing out otherwise.
I’d say a good way to try and use a little bit of everything would be to try and complete all the arena and challenge quests with all weapon types at least once. You don’t have to pick out a weapon set, it’s already provided for you and if you’re really good at a certain weapon, the fights would only last half as long as a normal hunt
Same. I started mhw with Bow and DB. I moved on to SnS, HBG, and LBG by the time the AT Elders came out and then by the middle of Iceborne I was maining GS. Love all the weapons in MH! Just depends what mood I'm in or what I'm hunting. I find that trying out new weapons and experimenting with them gives you so much more experience on how to position and counter rather than just sticking to one weapon and getting stuck in a repetitive mindset
I'm a hunting horn main and when I heard hammer got a counter in rise I was really excited for a blunt weapon that didn't have to dodge cancel everything but I couldn't land cause I'm bad so I just went full unga-bunga and used the valor charge moves as dashes instead. hammer is really fun 10/10
Trying out every weapon is a must. Started with SNS but found my true calling with DB. Got a friend who started out with HH, is now surprisingly good at Lance.
@@paperluigi6132 I'm new to monster hunter and the dual blades are great my only complaint is I'm playing monster hunter world and it's pretty confusing especially with elements and buffs and what not
I always think Hammer is a good learning tool once you have a baseline understanding of Monster Hunter, because with its blend of mobility, whilst still needing to time and position attacks to be effective (as long as you don't pick Courage binding...), it made me learn to read monsters for openings, whilst reasonably being able to disengage and reposition when necessary...
I’m a Fiver, but man I love the Gunlance in Rise. You can position yourself using Blast Dash and lay down the slashing fire on the monsters. I’m a bit of a jack of all trades, but this is my main weapon of choice
The secret of picking your main weapon is changing your mind 37 times mid playthrough, picking the weapon you picked first and avoided like the plague since you thought it was shit and then realize it was the most satisfying thing to play in this whole franchise. I love the greatsword.
I actually got lucky and ended up picking my main first try which is the hammer. Later I'd try dual blades which I also like, along with switch axe. I feel like I'd enjoy all of them but I don't feel like re learning all the moves again
Hammer is basically impatient greatsword.the rule of bonk is as follows: charge, upswing, roll, charge, into golf swing combo, water strike as panic counter, dash breaker on monsters like tigrex, if toppled, full charge impact crater into Big Bang combo, roll, repeat.
"Some players will almost exclusively play one weapon for their whole life across every monster hunter game" *lovingly tucks the dual blades I've been using since the very first game into bed next to me*
heavy bowgun is amazing. while the ammo thing is certainly a problem or a putoff for many, you can just pick all the basic ammo off of plants that are growing like everywhere. since normal ammo 1 is free (and does about as much dmg as a kunai at the beginning) its actually pretty viable early game
What I use to do is have HBG for every ammo type I use and while I'm using one ammo type I'll have one of my palicoes go in a sub marine and get more of the ammo while I'm not using it
I played like 40hrs of World almost exclusively with the bow mostly being terrified of the monsters, hit hr then quit. But I ended up playing a bunch of the rise demo after the 1 minute video, and it's changed everything. Went from the LS to the SA, to a bunch of messing with other weapons. Now I've put like 300hrs into Rise and it's one of my favourite games ever. That video is maybe the best starter for the game I've seen. Now I'm all about the bugstick, and I'm never going back.
I was a hard charge blade main for the first couple hundred hours, then discovered the iron wall that is lance. Played that for maybe ~50 or so hunts and then found my true calling dancing around monsters with a bow, which I've played ever since
Or just use the environment for some of them. I rarely have a hard time with flyers. My hammer to the face of Azure and a little bit of patience gets him to the ground real quick. Focus a body part, preferably the face if you're solo. Or the tail. Watch Rath face dive as you cut his tail. Really fun.
What's especially fun right after learning basics of a weapon, is learning something a bit more advanced. Few hunts with Lance changed to many after learning the timing on Spiral Thrust, mainly because of how exhilarating both finding the timing for it was, plus being a race car is always a blast
My favorite weapon is usually the Lance. I always love sturdy builds, studying my monster, dancing with it as long as possible to understand its depths. And then, when I want speed I use something else once I know the moves. Or I use what I learned and go aggressive lance, charging leaping strikes, stabs, face poke, shield slams to the head. The only thing I miss is MHW style mounting in addition to MHR mounting. Being able to leap on the back for a damage spam would be awesome which is one of the original reasons I played Lance in world. Charge into battle... boom, I'm riding the monster! I got a gem in MHW that allowed me to block ALL attacks, even unblockable ones, plus my armor set gave me perma-regen + a ton of block strength on top of the lance... My friend's reaction to me just face tanking Xino'jiva's face melting laser was wonderful. That said, Rise is... strange. The hits feel less meaty, but do more damage. It's like you get the damage but you don't feel the meaty pain quite as chunky.
As a button smasher and a close combat lover I can say I still love dual blades, even after trying all the weapons. Honestly, dual blades wasn't my first option, but once u understand what weapon/weapons u feel more confident with, nothing can stop you :)
I main CB cause it feels sooooo nice when you hit a good ultimate or get a guard point while blocking thru an animation of your character. Mastering the weapon never gets old or boring it is just so much fun to play from learning to mastering it :D
I never played SnS before Rise because it's classified as a beginner's weapon, but it's now one of, if not my favourite weapon. Lots of fun and is somewhat technical.
be a good players with SnS is probably harder than with CB, SnS speedruns are the most amazing for me, I say that as a multiweapon player with a bit of favoritism toward bow because it was my first weapon
About starting with ranged weapons, I would've agreed with you, but my girlfriend couldn't get into the game until she picked up the LBG and she just loved it - it provided a nice transition weapon from the FPS and TPS games she was used to. Now she's in love with insect glaive but without LBG she would have never got into the game in the first place
Yeah. There’d be no way I’d have ever gotten into main series Monster Hunter if I didn’t have Bow and Gyro controls. They’re basically Glooga Dualies at that point
Been playing LS since MHFU because i liked fast evade style but since it became a counter weapon i switched to SnS. I know its not the best weapon but its fun to play!
Yo I've had the same feeling when evolving from mh3u to mhw. I really recommand you to play insect glaive. With it, I found the fluidity of movement and balance between speed, power, and range, of the old longsword.
People should definetely try EVERY weapon, I started with Longsword, got bored went to SwitchAxe which I used for months, and now I only use Insect Glaive
I'm a relatively new hunter, got my start with base World, cleared the game using dual blades, for the most part. Found myself waffling on taking out the twin tempered Bazelgeuse quest. Remembered they were weak to lightning, and I had a fully upgraded tobi kadachi bow, because I was trying to make and upgrade every tobi kadachi weapon to max. Picked it up on a whim, and never looked back. The mid range combat style let me watch the monsters motions a lot more and I was able to learn telegraphs and timings a lot more. As an aside, maining Bow also helped me appreciate soulsian combat a little more, as I got in the habit of leaving enough stamina to execute a dodge if I needed to. In Rise I'm more of a "Little bit of everything" type of hunter. I'll get a whim to use a certain weapon, and just pick it up for a few hunts. About the only weapon I can't seem to get a good feel for is Greatsword, and with Sunbreak looking to add a combo that's not focused around the charged hits, I'll likely have more fun with that.
I first started with 3 Ultimate, and Dual Blades were the best weapon for me back then. Since then, I’ve rotated between Dual Blades, Insect Glaive, Sword & Shield, and Hammer. Rise has me experimenting with other weapon types with the addition of Switch Skills, and Great Sword is starting to look kinda juicy right about now.
How did this come out when I just got back into Rise? I haven't played in a while and just got back into it like 2 days ago. I don't have anything else to say, just thought it was funny. Great video :)
because people typically get back into MH (or start playing for the first time) around christmas. So we start releasing videos around this time for the new and returning players.
Well, incase you havn't noticed yet @Pixelboio . You are the main character in this world. The rest of us are just NPCs who design the world around you and your needs with events and stories.
Insect Glaive has been a heck ton of fun to play with, I feel like I am flying while using that, and since I use kinsects that paralyse, combos are not hard to land
I just want to thank you for your video and I’ve already beaten monster hunter rise but it’s very helpful to learn because never stuck with anything I can’t stick with one weapon
SNS is like, when you pick it up you can make a paper air plane. when you master it, it's like origami. no bars and extra stuff to help you. just you and the weapon. easy to learn, hard to master.
I was a bow/gunlance main in world In rise, I started using the lance, gunlance, and now the Sword and Shield. All three feel great in this compared to world!
I mained gs pretty much this whole game, it’s a weapon I’ve always flirted with but never committed to. I think for sunbreak maybe I’ll try committing to gunlance… but swax is my fav weapon in general so maybe ill just dive into it for sunbreak
Ditto with me, but then I've been using the Big F-YOU sword since I had my ah-ha moment in TRI. Used it back in Freedom Unite but never jelled cause I was still new and never picked up it clunkness was part of the point.
@@ReikuYin I used it a lot for world because it was funny to flex on all the insect users with constant mounting master but I’ve never properly mained it until rise
All the weapon are good depending on your playstyle. But I will say, if you got the money, try learning at least 3 different weapons once you reach HR7. Its good to have variety and more over, some weapons are better against certain monsters so if you're having trouble, switch to a different weapon instead.
Been playing MH for years and RUclips just happened to show me this vid cuz I've been playing Rise on PS5 lately. Just wanted to say this may have been the most entertaining and least cringe MH video I've seen in a long long time ✌️
Dual blade is simple.. get in when possible.. get out when danger.. and when you in archdemon mode.. you will zip zap around monster cant touch you.. and its really best with elemental and status..
@@poliwharaslah965 That's fair. But it was more that being a complete newbie I didn't understand much of the mechanics of archdemon mode. I kept relying on one of the wirebug skills in it to deal more than single digit damage. I wouldn't mind trying it again now that I understand more of MH as a whole though.
I'd argue that bows are actually the best beginner weapon. They can pop off single shots almost instantly and can hit from quite the distance, which sets the entry bar pretty low, but also have a free healing move built in that doesn't cost ammo or need you to remember swing combos, which is super helpful if you're taking a lot of hits and/or don't have strong armor. The range also means that new players can sit back a little ways to poke at enemies and pop off heals/buffs while the more skilled hunters do the brawling.
do some ppl really start their first monhun game with the pewpew guns? im just confused about people that pick a weapon that requires probably the most between-quest planning and maintenance in early game as their first
I’m more of a fast paced high speed guy so I started with dual blades but it took to long so switched to the insect glaive and is hands down my favourite weapons so far as it has a pretty decent damage... I have also just started using GS against the smaller monsters in MHW killing things like Jaguars and is fun but annoying
If you ever stop playing songs on your bass at the end of the video, I will find you! It's the reason I've subscribed! Also, great take on the most asked question :3
I used to main insect glaive in world but starting rise reminded me how much I hate beginner kinsects so I changed over to dual blades. I just like being able to dodge easilly
Later on in the game, kinsects get better but I just stick to Dual Color (Attack) with Severing as soon as they unlock because most monsters are easy to get white and orange buffs, but early IG was rough until I got Advancing Roundslash and a decent set of different elemental IGs to swap between. Tetraseal slash is also good but I love just getting my buffs and then dropping in to combo and break tails.
@@KogaHarine I've pretty much played IG for most of GU/World/Rise and dip into Lance for fun. Using a blunt kinsect has some nice benefits, something like 4-6 hits with a powder shot to the head and you can get a KO even without other hammer or ko people around. Really handy when you just wanna fish for the extract you're missing or wanna get a nice DPS window in on a particular part. I typically use Foebeetle or Carnage Beetle for those sweet KOs whether it's solo or MP. I was honestly surprised at how easy it is to get stuns in Rise lol.
Funny enough that my friend recommended I watch this, because he's a huge Monster Hunter fan and I'm still fairly new for the most part. I've played some of the games on and off with him for years and never gotten too big on it until Rise. And over the course of all that time, the dual blades have been my preferred choice since the beginning. So as it happens, I do indeed call myself a dual blade main, and made me feel good knowing I picked the right weapon for that. Plus it's nice being included in the cool kids club of dual blade users
I think SnS isn't beginners friendly anymore. 😕 I for myself cannot completely fully master SnS because I didn't play SnS from the start. I have master CB but not SnS. Still need to master that i-frame SnS in mhwib. 😆
Being begginner friendly, and how easy/hard a weapon is to master are 2 totally different things lol. Yes SnS is a beginner friendly weapon, but that doesnt mean it doesnt have any depth nor have a high skill ceiling like other weapons. Because it has both of those things too lol.
I played a bit of everything in world before finding my true calling in the Lance, nothing can hurt you, and nothing can escape you, while my friends are getting flung around with their higher dps light weapons, I am there dealing more damage by mining the monster constantly, while also inflicting statuses like paralysis to help the whole party, and when the monsters run in fear, I charge them down and mount more than those insect glaive users. Lance users are often overlooked, but we are often the backbone of a team
Monster Hunter World was the first Monster Hunter game I’ve ever played. I wanted to play the game earlier but I didn’t own a gameboy or Nintendo console. I did own a psp but didn’t know MH was ever released for it. When I start in MHW I use Duel Blades cause they seemed fun. After becoming really good at them I start trying other weapons. I got good with the Bow, Insect Glaive, Hammer , and Long Sword with the long sword becoming my favorite weapon. The jump in the air slam with the Long Sword is just so awesome I was hook right away though the hammer flip comes in close second.
If you think about it, the dual blades and the switch axe are very similar. They both involve going to powered up modes where you hit harder and faster within a time limit for devistating results.
Really true what was said about bowguns. I'm currently on my 3rd playthrough of world. Trying out bow from start to finish and buying coatings after each hunt really drains your wallet. But personally, I lose more money getting stuff to make traps and tranqs because I prefer to capture the monsters
My favorite weapons are bow, insect glaive, and light bowgun. I started with the lbg, and as long as you pay attention to your ammo, it's beginner friendly.
I know this might seem kind of weird for a MH player, as I started in world. I often switch between all the weapons w/ support options: - SNS wide range - HH (my main for the longest time, don't like the rise iteration however) - LBG for healing ammo and element coverage - Bow for Arc shot regen (I think that's rise exclusive, not sure honestly) and status coverage - Currently; Heal powder kinsect glaive to help my team get more DPS uptime rather than having to heal chip damage (and I love polearms). It's really nice how a lot of the weapons have general ways to assist allies in combat without directly interacting with them, whether it's part of the weapon's kit or simply because it has some capacity to help others!
yee, great video captain ! I have a bit of criticism tho. First, I would say great sword and hammer are great for beginners. Yes they're slow and require you to learn the pattern... but that's exactly what monster hunter is about. Playing great sword is playing the very core gameplay of read --> attack --> reposition, so I think it's a great weapon for any mh player. As for the lance, it's not stationary at all... If you watch herny's videos or a few speedruns you'll see the hunter sticking to the monster like a god damn mosquito lol. Finally the ranged weapons. Well... to learn about the ammo types and all you have to start somewhere, and it might as well be the beginning. Besides, early bowguns don't shoot the ammo types three, so farming isn't really a big deal. I could be wrong here, but I feel like you didn't really search about the different weapons in playthroughs and such, but rather played each of them a bit for yourself. But that's about it, still a great vid for beginners. Cheers!
I used a very different method in 4U to try and figure out which weapon I would main. I just tested them against a Great Jaggi (in addition to small monsters in the field) and compiled my thoughts. This is at the start of the game with very little transferrable experience, as I mained Bow in World and sucked at everything else. GS -Far too slow, but I like the guarding capabilities. SA -Fast, has good DPS, but doesn't have guard. DB -Really fast attacks (and flashy) but it doesn't have range and is all offense. LS -Has range, some counters, but no guard. SnS and Lance -Both have guard, but I don't like the damage they're dishing out. One is agile, and the other is as slow as a snail. I also cannot wrap my head around Lance's counters for the life of me. Gunlance -I'm not touching that with a 39 and a half foot pole. Hammer -I find the combos to be extremely boring. Also has no defensive capabilities. IG and HH -Too complex for me/no guard. LBG, HBG, and Bow -Ranged weapons are not for me, at least not in 4U. CB -Perfectly balanced, as all things should be. And I've strictly played with CB ever since
I started with the CB, I like a lot RPG games so a tactical weapon seemed to be the best option to me. Then a friend and I had a small chat about weapons and, at one point, it went like this: My friend: wait, you play Wing Diver on EDF 2025 and Bouncer on PSO2, right? Me: right, why? My friend: why the hell haven't even tried the IG yet?! Go and use it now! And he was right, while I still use the CB from time to time, and I'm trying to learn both Bow and HH, IG become my main weapon after a single hunt. So, if there is a fellow WD or Bouncer out there, give it a try, IG feels like pure freedom of movement once you learn to use it well.
The greatsword will always be my go-to, love that weapon, my brother is a greathammer user so our hunts are chaotic, we abuse monsters with our damage output lol
SNS being one of the hardest weapons to master and saying it’s a good starting weapon kinda bs I would suggest hammer or GS as an alternativ easy controls and nice dmg
Sns is good for beginners mainly because it is easy to learn but hard to master, and also you can drink potions, use items or something while your sword is out which is pretty useful for beginners. After that you can switch your weapon lmao
2:10 as a Longsword main I pretty much started learning hammer since at times being able to counter almost everything, I started learning Hammer and it surprised me how some Longsword mains also tried Hammer, both on Reddit and RUclips.
i use a lot of weapons (bow main). everything but charge blade, gs, hh, and lance. and this video is spot on 1. try them all till u find one that clicks woth u. then use it till u understand the game 2. dual blads r the best
This is my first time playing a monster Hunter game period. Got it during this recent sale was almost an instant purchase. No idea what weapons are in the game so was looking for something like this before I even start the game.

SnS baby
LS is the new beginners weapon, at least that's what I think based on Capcom giving us the LS at the start, when the SnS had that role since the first game. That doesn't mean the LS doesn't have depth, but I think is more friendly and feels stronger than the SnS, if you don't know what you are doing. Try explaining perfect rush and guard points to a new player. LS and its meter is easier to understand.
Glaive. It’s so simple, especially in rise

@@Owlboi how much hours you have on it?
As one of the 10 hunting horn mains I must talk about this incredible weapon. The primary goal of all other weapons is to kill, but with the hunting horn your goal is to perform beautiful songs while you bash the monster skull in, and you still buff yourself and your crew ! I loved it in world and i love it in rise. HH for life
Its one of the most played weapons in rise lol, more played than CB, lance, gunlance, IG and occasionally sns/hammer
@@Nergigante how the turn tables
Holes make hammer fragile. I like strong hammer🦧
it's beauty and violence all in one, like life.
That said, I still prefer playing CB or GS.
Capcom: "All weapons are viable"
Also Capcom: *makes LS able to defend more than a goddamn lance*
The most portable team thing I have ever seen.
Viable != Well balanced. Every weapon can solo any monster in the game with little issue, but some are easier and stronger and do more damage. I love Lance but it is objectively weaker than LS but it still works and is fun
@@marcusaaronliaogo9158 You... you do realize that counter-type LS came to fruition in World and was slowly rearing its head back in 4, right?
@@Revoltine the portable team kinda sucks on making shield weapons good, which takes an ultimate expansion to fix everything.
even LS struggles against apex even with heroics so idk lol. I know dunking on ls is a meme but all classes struggle on that
I love this comment section, it's just everyone talking about how much they love their main :) for me there's something so fluid about Gunlance combat, you've got a ton of options in Full Burst, Wyrmstake, poke shelling, Wyvernfire, and the Silkbinds so you have an answer for every attack and opening a monster throws your way! I love the "bag of tricks" hunting style and i always use tools like flash bombs, traps, and bait to help me out
Yeah, I'm a gunlance main. I sure do love not doing damage.
@@knightofulthar6627 considering we are fighting monsters I'd say its pretty balance there's not much it doesn't have.
I'd like to add a note:
If you don't like how a weapon feels at first, come back to it once you have better equipment because some skills you get later in the game greatly enhance the weapons
It's the only monster in the game that I've ever cleared arena in...
I got my best Arena times with the Hunting Horn as well! Typically I'm a SnS and GS main, but I have over 100 hunts with every weapon now!
I main GS bow and DB
I'm a Switch Axe Main since World, and i've used It in Older Games Too (3U, 4U, GU.), and... I LOVE both versions of World and Rise, you can do EVERYTHING (Except blocking attacks BUT WHO NEEDS A SHIELD WHEN YOU'RE A WALKING DPS MACHINE? TUE BEST OFFENSE IS THE BEST DEFENSE.)
You can make a ton of Damage, you can poison, Paralize, cut talils, break parts, EVEN STUN thanks to every type of Phials system, having the power of a Sword and an Axe, you can grapple to a monster's part and POWER UP YOUR SWORD LIKE IF THAT THING WAS A MOTORCYCLE AND THEN B O O M
Unless you miss your gauge and accidentally recharge the Sword mode and being kicked to saturn by a Monster
Yeah, i love Switch Axe
Swax gang rise up! (Pun unintended i stg)
Swaxe is best, i also really anjoy all those Wirebug Moves. In Frontier with Switch Axe F, Player were able to block atttacks.
This is literally how I feel about switch axe
Switch Axe in Rise is awesome, outside of that game Idk man, I dont vibe with It, It feels like two different weapons
now that sunbreak is here switchaxe also has a counter move!
One thing I have learned during my 10 years of MH is that each monster is easier or harder depending on the weapon you use, for example try a rathalos with bow and dual blades, you'll see that with a bow is a the best thing ever
Or how fighting nargacuga with a charge blade is abject pain. Or at least for me who can't land elemental discharges for shit.
literally why I play every weapon except hammer (I do not vibe with it :(
@@fbmb1337 I main GS, but I specifically switch off just for Nargacuga.
Agreed. Took out Rathalos first try in World with my LBG. Barioth was a different story...
If by defense you mean defensive options as in moves you can do, DB usually relies on its mobility for that, or just dash s.
Ye, i only have like 4-5 weapons i dont use and 3 of those are the ranged weapons so
GS is the go too but love some SA, SnS and LBG. Nothing wrong with having an arsenal... Just expensive. XD
@@ReikuYin fair but hey, that's just yet another excuse to keep playing, have something for almost every occasion.
I started with SnS. Now mostly main LS, DB, and some Lance on the side. But I try out every weapon regularly (have yet to try out Heavy Bowgun).
@@paperluigi6132 I'm new to monster hunter and the dual blades are great my only complaint is I'm playing monster hunter world and it's pretty confusing especially with elements and buffs and what not

@@cshade0886 I'm a DB main and i tried using the LS but its too brain dead of a weapon even for me
I always think Hammer is a good learning tool once you have a baseline understanding of Monster Hunter, because with its blend of mobility, whilst still needing to time and position attacks to be effective (as long as you don't pick Courage binding...), it made me learn to read monsters for openings, whilst reasonably being able to disengage and reposition when necessary...
I love the greatsword.
lol I did this with lance
I actually got lucky and ended up picking my main first try which is the hammer. Later I'd try dual blades which I also like, along with switch axe. I feel like I'd enjoy all of them but I don't feel like re learning all the moves again
Hammer is basically impatient greatsword.the rule of bonk is as follows: charge, upswing, roll, charge, into golf swing combo, water strike as panic counter, dash breaker on monsters like tigrex, if toppled, full charge impact crater into Big Bang combo, roll, repeat.
Sticking to the same combo over and over is boring bruh. The hammer has so many different moves. Just use what hurts and looks cool.
I'm a big fan of great sword. Finished the entire game with it. Queuing up that mega slash and getting it perfectly always felt amazing.
for some reason i never see anyone using GS in Rise. It was one of the most common weapons in MHW, what happened??
pov: you've already chosen your weapon and ur just bored
Woooo! Fellow bugstick fan! I personally love the exploding moth, hbu?
I was a hard charge blade main for the first couple hundred hours, then discovered the iron wall that is lance. Played that for maybe ~50 or so hunts and then found my true calling dancing around monsters with a bow, which I've played ever since
The Venn diagram for golf lovers and hammer players is a perfect circle
Alternatively, choose hammer like a gigachad and don't look back.
You're supposed to try other weapons?
Depends on how long you wanna wait for those flying monsters to land
"Why play 1 weapon when you could just use all of them?"
- Me
I main CB cause it feels sooooo nice when you hit a good ultimate or get a guard point while blocking thru an animation of your character. Mastering the weapon never gets old or boring it is just so much fun to play from learning to mastering it :D
I never played SnS before Rise because it's classified as a beginner's weapon, but it's now one of, if not my favourite weapon. Lots of fun and is somewhat technical.
SnS is one of those low skill floor, high skill ceiling playstyles
be a good players with SnS is probably harder than with CB, SnS speedruns are the most amazing for me, I say that as a multiweapon player with a bit of favoritism toward bow because it was my first weapon
I love it when the bard specs into strength and breakdances your skull in.
@@pheonyxior_5082 maybe I need to try insect glaive in sunbreak. Played it a little in mh4u it was pretty fun.

0:48 WOAH WOAH WOAH. I... I think that fish has had enough
People should definetely try EVERY weapon, I started with Longsword, got bored went to SwitchAxe which I used for months, and now I only use Insect Glaive
How dare you abandon the swagaxe.
I relate to this on a spiritual level
Dude I had to check the amount of subs you had from that joke. Mad underrated High sub count quality! Keep it up!

A real hunter don't choose weapon, he plays them all.

I mained gs pretty much this whole game, it’s a weapon I’ve always flirted with but never committed to. I think for sunbreak maybe I’ll try committing to gunlance… but swax is my fav weapon in general so maybe ill just dive into it for sunbreak
I use Greatsword a lot but I never thought of using it for Speedruns though.
Gunlace is amazing, I highly recommend it
Ditto with me, but then I've been using the Big F-YOU sword since I had my ah-ha moment in TRI.

Yeah.. i love long sword.. but i cant never defeat magnamolo with it.. dual blade can..
Been playing MH for years and RUclips just happened to show me this vid cuz I've been playing Rise on PS5 lately.
Just wanted to say this may have been the most entertaining and least cringe MH video I've seen in a long long time ✌️
I first tried dual blades but I really didn't understand it that well. So I switched to sword and shield and actually have been doing nicely with it.
I love using Swaxe and Insect Glaive, I love to fly
Astrol: CB is great for players that like to set up elaborate combos in Yu-Gi-Oh

Rise is my favourite monster hunter game thanks for making a very enjoyable video
I’m more of a fast paced high speed guy so I started with dual blades but it took to long so switched to the insect glaive
and is hands down my favourite weapons so far as it has a pretty decent damage...
I for myself cannot completely fully master SnS because I didn't play SnS from the start.
I'm really lost in the community cause I only have the mhfu and no video now days talk about it anymore, but your videos kinda help, thanks 😅

GLAIVE MAINS UNITE
*Haha, bug go bzzz*
Je suis monte!
I know this might seem kind of weird for a MH player, as I started in world. I often switch between all the weapons w/ support options:
- SNS wide range
- HH (my main for the longest time, don't like the rise iteration however)
- LBG for healing ammo and element coverage
- Bow for Arc shot regen (I think that's rise exclusive, not sure honestly) and status coverage
- Currently; Heal powder kinsect glaive to help my team get more DPS uptime rather than having to heal chip damage (and I love polearms).
Cheers!
Funny asf video! Keep it up!
Don’t have rise, just chilling exploring iceborne, but this was fun to watch
Ah I love Great Sword. It is amazing because I play GenU a lot and Valor DBs are such a godsend in terms of flashiness and damage, always a fun time
I've tried a few weapons on the practice area and watch a few videos as well and one weapon made my heart pound and shout 'SHINZOU WO SASAGEYO!'
You may give shit advice most of the time but your funny.

Wait you guys charge up greatsword on the ground and not in the air?
Glaive. Not for the jumps, though those are addictive, but because I like the idea of symbiotic relationships in the MH world.
Perfect timing, thanks. We get a free trial of Rise in switch a few hours from now...
I used a very different method in 4U to try and figure out which weapon I would main. I just tested them against a Great Jaggi (in addition to small monsters in the field) and compiled my thoughts. This is at the start of the game with very little transferrable experience, as I mained Bow in World and sucked at everything else.
GS
-Far too slow, but I like the guarding capabilities.
SA
-Fast, has good DPS, but doesn't have guard.
DB
-Really fast attacks (and flashy) but it doesn't have range and is all offense.
LS
-Has range, some counters, but no guard.
SnS and Lance
-Both have guard, but I don't like the damage they're dishing out. One is agile, and the other is as slow as a snail. I also cannot wrap my head around Lance's counters for the life of me.
Gunlance
-I'm not touching that with a 39 and a half foot pole.
Hammer
-I find the combos to be extremely boring. Also has no defensive capabilities.
IG and HH
-Too complex for me/no guard.
LBG, HBG, and Bow
-Ranged weapons are not for me, at least not in 4U.
CB
-Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
And I've strictly played with CB ever since
I will forever main all weapons, the most fun is to do it all
I started with the CB, I like a lot RPG games so a tactical weapon seemed to be the best option to me. Then a friend and I had a small chat about weapons and, at one point, it went like this:
My friend: wait, you play Wing Diver on EDF 2025 and Bouncer on PSO2, right?
Me: right, why?
My friend: why the hell haven't even tried the IG yet?! Go and use it now!
And he was right, while I still use the CB from time to time, and I'm trying to learn both Bow and HH, IG become my main weapon after a single hunt.
So, if there is a fellow WD or Bouncer out there, give it a try, IG feels like pure freedom of movement once you learn to use it well.
That's a good friend there.
isn't showing narwa kinda bad if this video was for complete monster hunter beginners?
I thought the same.
The greatsword will always be my go-to, love that weapon, my brother is a greathammer user so our hunts are chaotic, we abuse monsters with our damage output lol
Please, what is the name of the Greatsword swung at 1:05?
Same, i like to see monster getting K.O and bonk their head over and over.
@@yukowe Especially the horny ones Black Diablos and Mizutsune.
i use a lot of weapons (bow main). everything but charge blade, gs, hh, and lance. and this video is spot on
1. try them all till u find one that clicks woth u. then use it till u understand the game
2. dual blads r the best
This is my first time playing a monster Hunter game period. Got it during this recent sale was almost an instant purchase. No idea what weapons are in the game so was looking for something like this before I even start the game.
Picked up Sword and Shield way back in OG MonHun, haven't put it down since.
Greatsword. It has the word "great" in its name, not mediocre, not good, not average and most certainly not looooong, but great.
