Looks like he's purging those that don't believe in the Erdtree, the Lion Dancers or Puppeteers looks like they are Omens (judging by them horns) and it is 3 people in it, like the Chinese Lions puppet things. Mesmer's eyes looks like serpents eyes so he probably took on the Dragon Comunion. Some say Lady Tanith might be the blade dancer in the first trailer. Omens, Misbegoten, Tarnish, Albanaurics, they like Miquella and what he represents, so this war they show is probably Mesmer "purging" them.... he also stands like the Rotten Knights in Caelid.
I wonder if we are also going to touch on Godwyn in this DLC.

Better late than never, I'm glad to see your reaction to this trailer tho bro. Also a lot of your speculation is spot on. There's a lot of interesting lore in this trailer, and although we don't know how this lore works 100% I've got a lot of thoughts about it. So long comment incoming lemme break this down based off of the 3 characters this story trailer shows us. Also this comment is gonna get split into a second comment more than likely because my thoughts on Miquella are worth their own individual comment.
First we have to discuss Marika and a lot of people speculate that this figure is Miquella, but that can't be true since the narrator says "Miquella the Kind spoke of the beginning". This line tells us concretely that a story is being portrayed by Miquella and the figure here as you pointed out has Marika's jewelry so it has to be her since we're discussing the beginning.
My theory of what's happening here is that Marika has taken part in a grand purge killing off many people so that she may begin her ascent to godhood. The person she killed I personally believe we saw in the first Gameplay trailer specifically in a portrait with the old man who has the rune like skeleton. I believe this figure to be that woman, and I think she's a Deathbed Companion getting ready to give birth to the Rune of Life which is the top most rune of the Elden Ring.
I think Marika got close to her, betrayed and killed her then stole the Rune of Life, contacted The Greater Will, was chosen to become a god and through this grandiose sacrifice created the Erdtree and split The Original Lands into 2 distinct realms that would come to be known as "The Lands Between" and "The Land of Shadows" hence the line "An affair from which Gold arose, and so to was Shadow born". The real insane part is that if you listen you'll notice a slightly off put Elden Beast theme playing. The music in this trailer to me is just as telling as what we see. This theme being the most obvious and least telling outta the 3 songs we here ironically enough.
Next we gotta discuss one of my 2 favorite characters in this video being Messmer. Everything about Messmer compels me. I absolutely adore what little of his character we see and from visual and audio clues alone know. One of the first interesting things we gotta take note of is who is Messmers parents? Well from what we've seen thus far Marika almost entirely has to be his mother, and because of his Red hair he has to belong to Radagon as well unless we have a new male figure with striking red hair.
This is significant because this means that Messmer is an elder sibling to Miquella and Malenia. This completes the triad of children for Marika/Radagon. Before now it was always odd that Marika/Godfrey had 3 children, then Radagon/Rennala had 3 children, but Marika/Radagon only had the twin prodigies. Now we see that they long before had a 3rd child, and I believe Messmer is the eldest of all the demigod children because he was born BEFORE the Erdtree was created or roughly as soon as it was conceived from what we know. This alone is huge because it immediately puts his power scaling to a whole other level. Unlike the other Demigods Messmer has pursued successful conquest over an ENTIRE realm.
Plus Messmers parents being Marika/Radagon also completes the Butterfly Theory really well as Malenia has the Aeonian Butterfly, Miquella has the Nascent Butterfly, and before now we believed Melina was their 3rd sibling with the Smoldering Butterfly. That's not how it is tho that's instead Messmers butterfly.
Messmers music also to me tells his story very well if this central theme is his boss theme. If you listen it sounds evil and powerful, but it also has this desperation to it. Almost a desperate tragedy that's persisting through power and evil deeds. Unlike Miquella whom I'll discuss in his own comment to me Messmers a tragic villain who does despicable acts because he's desperate and desperately believes his evil deeds are right and necessary.
He's likely here on Marika's behalf, and he's alone. Unlike the other demigods who have faithful companions and family. Messmer seemingly is alone, and rather than having equals to love or rival with he has his minions and his snakes. I don't believe he's our main villain of this DLC, and instead I believe he's gonna be our half way boss. Every Souls game DLC that has one of its bosses as the art cover ALWAYS deploys that said boss literally as the mid point fight. Then you get a secret boss and the final boss is always a secret until you actually face them. I think Messmers our half way/mid point boss fight.
Last thing I wanna say is about that maiden figure at the middle of the story trailer whom was kneeling in the flames. I personally REALLY want that to be Melina. This would explain why she's "burnt and bodiless" as she was burned in Messmers flame. The second possibility of who this is is it could be The Gloam-Eyed Queen. I think it'd be cooler if it were Melina, but having the Queen herself would be cool. Also the woman regardless of who it is I believe is not only holding a spiral weapon, but also a mask for whatever symbolism there may be there lol. Although it could just be a new character.
Oh and if you want a batshit crazy theory. Though I strongly believe Marika is Messmers mom if that turns out to be wrong, I think it'd be cool if The Gloam-Eyed Queen was Messmers mom and Radagon was his dad. I think Melina is the Gloam-Eyed Queens daughter tbh, so if her and Messmer were siblings that'd be interesting.

Although I don’t know anything about previous souls games I believe you, but yeah I feel as if Messmer is just doing what he’s told. Imagine if he had family around him. I’d imagine things would be much different

Miquella is the most important character in Elden Ring. He contains the wisdom and allure of a true god, and I theorize he's behind our ENTIRE journey. He has manipulated us, and continues to do so into this DLC. Let's get into this.
He wields affection to shrive clean the hearts of men. These are the first words used in the Gameplay Trailer while showing us the cocoon in Mohgwyn. This to me says that Miquella's a master manipulator and that within that cocoon likely isn't even his actual body but a different body.
He must have manipulated Mohg into abducting a fake body so he could use him to access the Shadow Lands. This would explain why Miquella allowed Malenia to go fight Radahn. So that she'd not get in his way. Many believe Malenia went to go fight Radahn so that she could prove her strength. I think Miquella subtly manipulated her to go after Radahn so she'd be out of his way to have Mohg take the figure he put in that cocoon.
Why am I so convinced that Miquella is this master manipulator? Why would he go to this much trouble, and to what ends?
It's easy honestly, if you know the butterfly theory then you know Miquella's is the Nascent butterfly. This butterfly is in several interesting locations, but the one that really draws my attention is the Nascent butterflies that are at the Chapel of Anticipation. Our starting point. Should you follow Varre's questline that draws you to Mohgwyn inevitably then you'll eventually need a dead maidens blood because we are maidenless. Or are we?
To complete Varre's questline there are 2 dead maidens whose blood can be used. One of them is in the church after the Frenzy Flame village being Vykes maiden. The other is in the Chapel of Anticipation, she was supposed to be our maiden but she died before we even reached the Lands Between. Distinctly we can see from her body she's in a pool of her own blood, so she didn't die naturally. No, she was killed. By who though and why? I believe Miquella had her killed so that we would lose to the first boss and plummet to a location where he could send a proxy to continue our manipulation. Enter Melina and Torrent.
Melina doesn't remember a lot of her own identity, and I don't believe that this is coincidental. She's burned and bodiless unaware of her purpose but seemingly not entirely with full blown amnesia. Regardless she still seems a perfect pawn for Miquella's ambition. She's so willing to give up her life so we may be lord, all for a purpose that she doesn't seem to fully understand. What happens to her when she leaves us in Leyndell? Though I don't have that answer I can almost guarantee you she's being expertly manipulated.
Torrent is a young spirit ancestor he looks just like the Ancestor Spirit bosses yet so much younger practically a child. Trained to be a steed and bound to a whistle ring. Torrent before being claimed was found and rode by Miquella we can infer this from the first promo art for the DLC. That is clearly Miquella on his back we see that from the end of this trailer the figures clothing matches Miquella's literally one for one.
So he's given us our maiden so we can level up. Thanks to him we have a loyal steed that has chosen us, so that we may feel special and traverse easier. Hell even our Flasks of healing and FP are gifts likely from him as when we awake after our first loss and Melina and Torrent find us afterwards we receive our flasks. Likely additional gifts. So even our healing is a gift from him, but wait there's more.
Isn't it convenient that there are so many Golden Seeds littered about the Lands Between? Certainly seems so, did the Erdtree really drop those seeds? The Crimson and Cerulean Seed talismans seem to say that seeds never fall from the Erdtree, so what if they didn't? What if someone took some seeds from the Erdtree and planted them throughout the Lands between for us to find. Only further boosting this special tarnisheds power.
We also along the way meet a special witch whom gifts us a Spirit Calling Bell and we even get 3 Wolves as summons. Also gifts from Torrents former master, Miquella. Interestingly enough to further this bond Ranni even deploys sleep mist to meet us for the first time. A skill Miquella's other half St Trina likely would've taught her. To further state why we know this Spirit Bell and Wolves are Miquella's inside Malikeths boss room is a statue of a young feminine figure with 3 wolves. Many for the longest thought this was Marika, I instead believe this is Miquella and the Wolf ashes we receive from Ranni.
So now we have excellent healing, a maiden to boost our strength and even a noble spirit steed along with the ability to summon spirits unreturned to the Erdtree ALL thanks to Miquella. That's not all though 😃
It's interesting that so many Tarnished can't see the guidance of Grace. Brother Coryhn can't see it, nor can Blackguard Bogart, nor Sorcerer Rogier, nor Patches and the list continues I'm sure. WE can see the guidance of Grace though, and while so can Godfrey it's likely that Marika aided Godfrey her last lord. I don't think Marika gave US our grace. For we are a Tarnished without renown, and it's likely Marika only gave RENOWN Tarnished grace believing one of them would become Lord.
In the Shadow Lands there's grace as well as beacons of Miquella's great rune. Marika likely WOULD NEVER leave grace in the Shadow Lands because she'd never want her secrets shown. Miquella however would love her secrets to be shown, and why not share them with the Lord he's so eloquently manipulated. I believe he gave us our grace, our ability to see it, to follow it. Now we can follow him and fulfill our purpose. All has gone according to plan we OWE him EVERYTHING.
Without him we'd of never gotten chosen, we'd never be special! Now though we are chosen we are special, and we will walk together with his followers. We choose to follow, but is it really our choice? If Miquella's the final boss it'll be our chance to show we are truly special. Yes he set the stage for us and built us up, but it was OUR efforts that carried us regardless of these advantages.
If I'm wrong that's fine, but if I'm not then remember this comment. I'm calling it, that golden motherf***er has manipulated us and our entire journey. If he's this DLC's true final boss, nothing would give me further satisfaction. In Dark Souls Occult affinity is capable of killing the gods.
That being said I'm taking an Arcane Faith build to the DLC. Faith so I can be what Miquella likely wants from his followers for I have true Faith in him, but also Arcane so my occult weapons can shrive clean the life from his body.🌟🌑
Completely agree with you on all this. Although diving more into Melina here with you saying she doesn't remember much about herself. There is reasons for that, being Melina is actually Miquella. Not sure if you watched it already but that video of Melina is Miquella is really good and A LOT of very good reasons that point to this (you should watch it). Then you got to ask yourself, why haven't they shown Miquella's face?? Usually in movies when they don't show someone's face whether behind a mask or whatever the reason is.... its because we would recognize them. I think we are going to find out that Melina is Miquella or a version of him

For this theory to be true Melina would HAVE to be St Trina, and I don't think she is. The only proof that really sticks with me on that theory is the Torch of St Trina. As well as how we've not seen Miquella's face.
Ngl you pointing out we've not seen his face has bugged me a lot because I agree that it's super sus and likely means he's someone we'd recognize.
Specifically why I don't believe Melina is Miquella though is because in the narrative I have belief in Melina is the Gloam-Eyed Queens daughter. I don't believe she's related to Miquella as a sibling or even Miquella/an alter ego. Rather instead a cousin.
I theorize that Marika and the Gloam-Eyed Queen are siblings and the GEQ is Melina's mother while her father is someone who was purged in Messmer's flames. Hence why she's all burnt.
I believe she and her father were burned, but thanks to her mother she's survived in spirit and persists as the GEQ's way of ending Marika and her reign.

I don't know maybe it's just me but the body in the cocoon I don't believe that is Miquella, this has been a thought I've had even since I beat Malenia for the first time right before phase 2 you look up and see a hole in the tree then hear wait, but if you look back at that spot again you will see a body rather big body, looks kinda like the tree but my thoughts cause of Godrick, Grafting, well if Miquella was watering his tree with his blood, I'm sure after the tree grew to the size of a regular tree he would need more of his blood so why not graft himself into the tree, could be a way to divest himself of his body, and move around in spirit form like Ranni and Melina
As to why he divested his body no idea might be answered in the DLC
