Egotistic was fully choreographed by Mamamoo themselves, they used to do the choreo for their songs for many years after debut. I found that really interesting and meaningful. I think Gogobebe was the first time they worked with a professional choreographer.
Every choreo prior to Gogobebe was created by Mamamoo themselves. Their choreography journey is interesting as a fan because their biggest considerations are being able to sing well live and how the choreo is affected by their handmics. Hip, Dingga, and Aya are the only choreos to really go beyond their usual flowing formations because they used headmics.
the moment at the start of Egotistic where Hwasa is in the centre and the other members revolve around her is actually linked to the lyrics! Egotistic is a song about a selfish partner, and the lyrics at that moment of the song say "i'm always orbiting you, but that shouldn't mean you're the centre of the universe" (paraphrased). i find it to be a really cool interplay between the lyrics and choreo :D
The clips at the end of egotistic is the Tipsy Live video. It’s on their channel. Solar was sick so she couldn’t drink but mamamoo doesn’t need much alcohol to be chaotic amyways
AHAHAHA I can’t believe that out of all the choreos you reacted to you chose the only 2 normal mamamoo choreo videos they’ve ever done in their 10 year career that shocked the entire fandom when it came out. Btw the dances from gogobebe are cleaner because that’s when they started using an actual choreographer, if you’re interested in seeing what makes mamamoo dances I’d suggest watching more & not the ones they do at 1 million cause they obviously have to be professional there. The dance practices they used to do with 12cm heels early on for youre the best, mr ambiguous etc are also very interesting
Btw, if you are watching Street Woman Fighter 2, Mina Myoung is the leader of Deep N Dap. This was back when she was still working with Lia Kim at 1Million (the dance studio this was filmed in).
If I were to rank them as dancers it would be #1 wheein- over she technically the best dancer in mamamoo #2 hwasa- she’s the most fluid out of all the members. #3 solar- she has amazing energy but has #4 moonbyul- don’t hate me but moon is not as versatile as her other members she’s very good with dances she likes for example eclipse is where she really shined! She tends to be stiff when it comes to more girlie styles like mamamoos
An interesting study of contrasting technique is when solo idol AleXa (who cameo'd in Gogobebe) made a dance cover of Moonbyul's "Eclipse" -- before being signed by ZB, she did k-pop dance covers on social media, and have several such compilations posted -- when compared against the original. AleXa followed the choreo, but definitely added her own flair to it!

Exactly! They don't do very complicated dance choreography but, like you, they are some of the ones that I love and always remember. I always say that instead of more complicated dance choreography they give us strong and powerful vocal choreography.
Oh~ and speaking of using moves based on onomatopoeia , I think on Starry Night the basic move they do, crossing their hands, actually means "the stars are shining" in Korean sign language.🙂
