Hook (1991)

Hook | Peter Pan Learns How to Fly Again
/ @popcornplayground
I believe this movie allowed Robin Williams to be his true self. A genuine real life Lost Boy.
No, this role allowed him to become his favorite video game hero. He was Link from the Legend of Zelda and didn't even know it at the time. Long live Robin Williams!
@@logantrimble006 Oh he knew. Zelda's been around long enough.
Recently showed this to my daughters (ages 5 and 3) for the first time, and the smile of pure joy on my eldest girl's face when Pan learned how to fly again was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen
My daughter has 3..can't wait to show that her.
My father made me watch this movie Hook back in late 90's. And I was like "this is litereally as sequel of Peter Pan".
This movie makes me emotional and nostalgia. Above all, what it feels like being a kid again
@@micheloso69yes that right pan is BACK!!!!!
this makes me tear up! i’m 34 and i still make my dad watch it with me all the time. he’s 77 and hates that i narrate every scene 😂
*Bangarang.*
Christ what John Williams can do with an orchestra is beyond belief
Yes suh!
One of the small things I love is Peter bowing to Rufio after being given his sword. Despite the two being at each other's throats until now Peter's first act is to show how grateful he is to Rufio for leading and protecting the Lost Boys while he was gone.
I like how Rufio tempted Peter to do his call like he knows his hero is back but he wants to hear him in all of his glory
What's funny is that when they were supposed to crow, Dante Basco didn't know what he was supposed to do as far as how to make the noise, so his ended up more like a wolf's howl.
im sure he's flying high in heaven alongside his best friend Christopher Reeve! Superman and Peter Pan!!
Both with music by John Williams!
He killed himself so he’s probably in hell
Auf jeden Fall 😢😊👍
@@rebeccamichael626 And he is flying out of it!
@@SeniorWayne-jl6mp Right lol
32 years later and this movie Is still amazing this scene is even sadder because Robin isn't around anymore
damn, i'm a dad and almost in my 40's and still this scene brings me to tears.
what a great movie!
I miss Robin Williams so much🥺
Me too. I was at Hollywood when I heard of his passing. So i decided to pay my respect as people give out roses in the Walk of Fame.
Me too, he was one of my favorites of Male Actors and one of the very best too, at least for me.
@@starlight992 Yeah he always made me laugh voicing The Genie back then!🤣
I do too...he was the real Peter Pan after all :(
1:08 This Neverland is WAY better than the new one
It's bloody hell better than the new one
This is the most beautiful scene ever filmed in any movie!
I agree with you. 🤩 This movie is one of my favorites.
As a 90's kid. Still Remember that memorable scene after 25 years.
Best part of the movie
Makes me feel emotional and nostalgia. Also makes me miss being a kid. Just having Fun and play
Yes, it is my friend ...
And still going ❤
@@aleksandarboskovski5026 absolutely
Well it's pretty great
So sad we wont get movies like this again. I loved the 90s so much
Sadly. Same here love 90's and early 2000’s movies
The music of old 90s movies are always so amazingly well put together
70s 80s 90s 2000s 2010s 2020s. This is John Williams. A legend.
Oh ja, diese Filme hatten diesen 90er Jahre Zauber. 😭🤩👍
The music in this movie is so beautiful.
@@abcdefghij337 yes, it's by grand master and real musician JOHN WILLIAMS. That is why.

As a late 90's kid. I grew up watching this movie. One of top 5 favorite.
This film is a Masterpiece. Brings so much joy, makes me fell nostalgia and emotional
I swear to god the hairs on my face stand up and I get goosebumps every time I see Robin Williams flying through the clouds. That’s exactly how I picture him flying in Heaven. I truly believe he’s a guardian angel of mine. And I never met the guy, but man, I swear when he passed it was like losing an uncle. RIP ROBIN WILLIAMS FOREVER🕊️🕊️🕊️❤️
Nothing will ever touch this movie.
I've said it a millions times I'll say it again. This is the What If/Dark Knight Returns version of Peter Pan. The hero coming back years later older for one more hurrah against his enemies (Enemy=Hook) Brilliant Filmaking. Favorite Robin Williams film of all time.
That’s what I say. You have Joker and Captain Hook becoming depressed because their mortal enemy, the person that gives their life purpose is gone
I love this take. Never put the 2 together, but now that i have, 😂 i can't "unforget it."
BANGARANG!!!!
I'M CRYING NOW. CGI AND MUSIC ARE PERFECTION!!!!!! Legend has it he's still flying and crowin' around Neverland. We miss you, Robin but we're happy you're at a better and glorious place now.
The fact this films borrows so many aspects from the Disney classic and the books shows how magical it truly is as a film. It gives you that sense of joy we all felt when Peter Pan first came to life on the big screen, only this time he’s all grown up. A family adventure for a new generation. Robin Williams and Bobby Driscoll both gave us great portrayals. This film shows that every grown up has an inner child. We are all Lost Boys. 🥺
Robin Williams, so far ahead of his time. May he live forever. R.I.P. One of a kind.
I feel bad. I hated Rufio in the beginning and thought he was just a jealous jerk who was unhappy that Peter was back. But from the very beginning Tinkerbell said he was trying to help Peter Pan regain his memories and skills and stuff. Watching back now, after all these years as an adult, yeah, I realize that's exactly what he was doing! That's why he gave up leadership so easily and didn't take some of that humiliation personally...he was wanting that the whole time, so his best friend could be back with him again!
One of the best movies ever made! I miss this man.
I took my older sister and a couple of my Godmother’s boys to see this when it came out in theaters. The youngest in our bunch had just turned 3. You’d think that he’d be restless and bored during the movie. Nope. He was enthralled by the story and paid attention to everything. When this scene unfolded, his 3-year-old bottled up tension EXPLODED when Peter remembered how to fly. He started screaming and jumping up and down in front of his seat. He almost flew! 😂 It’s a beautiful memory that I will always cherish. ❤
Wow the flying effects here look more believable than the new Disney remake
I like how Rufio looked up at the sky immediately "Pan! He's back! He's back!!" 🔔
@0:34 ….God, that music legit gives me the chills. Such a beautiful and power moment.
This scene is MY happy thought
This movie is my happy thought
Agreed with both of you
For me this film is a happy thought.
Ahhh the 90s magic of Peter pan never gets old
I love how at 0:53 the first character we see is Pan’s Shadow, and unlike on earth when the shadow is being angry and rebellious, here, the shadow is happy to be flying right along with Peter!!!
I've seen this movie about 1543 and ½ times and I've never noticed the shadow.
Rufio is the butt of the joke a lot, but he's a pretty good sport when Peter finds himself again.
Rufio refused to give up his leadership because Peter Banning was a fat old man who couldn't fly, fight or crow whilst he was the best fighter and could crow. When Peter became Peter Pan again he could fly, fight and crow and was the better fighter and rightful leader of the Lost Boys. Rufio has no choice but to surrender his leadership. Also, he would be following a very capable fighter and he became Peter's Second in Command and would have succeeded Perer as The Pan if he had lived.
I like the relationship Rufio had with Peter. Looked up to him, as they all did. But Peter chose Rufio as their protector. For 20 years it seems. That's alot to live up to.
Not to mention why he was there to begin with. From the look of things, I say abusive parents. And fighting pirates made him feel much better.
Now Peter comes back as an adult. And I bet Peter reflected everything Rufio's father was like. Now not only is Peter an adult, Rufio sees someone he hated.
Of course, Peter Pan is restored, and throughout the movie Rufio's in denial of accepting an adult he likes.
Sadly Rufio dies, but his dying words to Peter are, "I wish I had a Dad like you."
Rufio only acted like that because he didn't believe who Peter was cuz he looked like all the adults they were always against. Once he knew he was Pan, the respect was instantaneous because Pan's reputation was unimpeachable with the Lost Boy's. He was their legend.
When Zuko shows you honor, you know it's genuine.
Dante is a pretty solid dude himself
This is probably one of my most favorite scenes. Where Peter got his memories of his life and who he really is; flying and magically ended up in his old Pan attire, which is adult sized; all the lost boys overjoyed to see it really was Pan and follow him around like a magnet; and Rufio officially seeing now that it was Pan the whole time and was happy about as he presents him his sword like that.
Goosebumps..
My childhood
This movie does NOT need a remake.
Love the rise and dive of Pan with the sun in the background. Thank you for sharing one of my favorite childhood memories watching cinema. I am 36 now and it still makes me feel like the young boy from the 90s
yes friend, I feel like a kid all over again. so many memories are back.
The most beautiful metaphore of being true to yourself and follow what in your heart cause that is what will make you fly and shine on others.
Thank u friend, I think this is what I was losing.
It's less about following your heart and being true to yourself, and more about learning how to recapture the joy of childhood as a grownup
@0:38
The most iconic Pan move of all time
The fact that Rufio’s actor would go on to voice Zuko in Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Plus Jake the American Dragon
Robin loved being a father as Peter did.
This score makes me tear up. RIP Robin Williams
Grew up with this movie and always come back to it. Phenomenal portrayal by Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman in particular.
3:19 that bow is so dope to me 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Core memory bro.
Dude the soundtrack for this movie was actually really really good or am i wrong???
You’re not wrong, the score is perfect.
its the legendary John Williams!
John Williams my guy.....He don't miss
This clip of this amazing movie, I feel is Metaphoric to how we all feel towards Robin Williams today. We are all the lost boy's, Robin Williams is soaring in the sky, in the clouds of heaven (0:53), waiting for us lost boy's to join him ❤
This film is sweet as chocholate.
Chocolate rain some stay dry and others feel the pain 🍫
I know someone already made this comment but Holy shit what John Williams can do with a symphony orchestra. This among Star Wars, Superman, and Harry Potter. The dude knows when to pull out the epic scores and symphonies.
I was 11 when I saw this magic happen....like the Disney cartoon it was awesome!!!!
Peter Pan! This is playfully amazing. After Peter finds his happy thought, he learns to fly, fight and crow again, thanks to Tinker Bell. She helped him regain the memories he had lost ever since he left Neverland and unable to return to the lost boys. The happy thought was his son Jack, the day he was born. Peter knew why he came back to London for Wendy and her granddaughter Moira, and why he grew up; he wanted to be a daddy. Yes, think happy thoughts to fly with pixie dust or your imagination. The lost boys cheer for Peter and join him on a rescue mission to save Jack and Maggie, his kids, from the evil and elegant Captain James Hook. I still never gave up believing in fairies and magic with all my heart. But most of all I refuse to grow up and forget precious things of my past and my childhood. I am strong, childlike, young, and beautiful as a fairy. Always have and always will be. My one and only wish is to keep the magic alive forever.
And the music, so beautiful, you fly with this fantastic ost
I agree
Truly the kid in us all.
2:26 i still can hear 'Rufio!' from Stieve Spielberg behind )) sinse 1993 when i first time heard it
My favourite 4 childhood movies:

Ladies and Gentlemen! Peter Pan is back!
As a 7 year old kid in the movies this felt like it was real 😂
My favourite scene in a movie Robin williams was born to play a grown up peter pan
0:40 when joyboy returns
WOW HE JUST SWOOPED RIGHT DOWN LIKE A HAWK 1:50 HOLY CRAP THAT WAS AWESOME
Perfect casting
❤ love this movie. Best movie of my childhood
0:53 the effects are so impressive.
John Williams music in this movie and the starwars is amazing and puts you in the movie
Nothing in the 2023 film can even stand up against this one scene. This was when magic was prioritized in film making not money. Today we reversed that.
Well both actually back then it was more about good story telling so companies could make money . Now it's about snowflake politics 🤮 witch doesn't make money 😡
90's rock. My childhood. Happy thoughts
I really wish that his wife Moria could see him now. 😉
im 34 .. this kicks my ass for so many reasons
I always imagined that Robin Williams had to demonstrate he could crow before even being allowed to audition for this role. 🐓
Robin Williams: Hi, I’m world famous actor and comedian Robin Williams, and I’m here to audition for the role of Peter Pan.
Steven Spielberg: Okay. Go ahead and crow like a rooster for me…
Robin Williams: Say what?
Studio Secretary: Sorry to interrupt sir, but Michael Jackson is on line one…
Steven Spielberg: Jesus Christ! What the hell Robin, you got the part!
You are the Pan! You can fly! You can fight! And you can….. 3:15
Love that line! Tho I think Rufio says "You can fly! You can fight! But you can't...". I think it means a lot: Rufio is very skeptical about Peter, and till the end, he refuses to admit (even to himself) that the Pan is back. Then they welcome themselves! Amazing 🙂
@@filipzo - No, he says "and you can crow". You can see him say that when Peter starts crowing.
@@rebeccamichael626 Maybe you are right. In the Italian version, Rufio clearly says "ma non sai..." while he is shaking his head, perhaps the translators probably went for matching the lip movements.
Their is only one leader to the lost boys, peter pan
There’s not many films that stuck with me as a child but this one is right up there. Ironic, incredible how time can change perception. This film is considered a classic yet when it came out it was considered a disappointment by many (mainly due to expectations at the time)
The 90s was peak culture in the US. How far we've fallen.
Waaaaaaahhhhh Every single generation says that since the dawn of human civilization, don't fall into that trap
BANGARANG!!!
It was dope being a kid
Rip Robin Williams 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
I love his face
RIP ROBIN😢
It Looks Like Robin Williams Is Flying Like The Simpsons Ride At Universal Studios Hollywood And RIP To Him.
people who talk about the perfect casting for a role miss Robin's Peter and Dustin's Hook
Legendary!! Notice how Pan didn't take his sword back right away. He left Rufio as the leader and let him give his title back willingly not forcefully. Pissed me off his family treated him bad to make him commit suicide.
I do wonder how he changed his clothes so quickly?
Neverland magic? Imagination is powerful there. Like how the lost boys can survive on imaginary food. So the more peter embraced his former self, the more he looked the part.
If you do some deep digging on the origin and details of neverland itself supposedly it's actually an island on another planet in space, so who knows what could happen there!!!
@@derk4737 it's surposely a Pandora like planet
0:59 😢😢😢 i can just imagine flying through the heavens ⛅ clouds
I suddenly find it odd that Peter's new happy thought was his children and fatherhood, but it took a matter of hours before he forgot the source of his flight yet he continued to fly.
Bangarang
May you all find your happy thought 🙏
凄く大好きな映画よ!!

Capolavoro...
filme da minha infância 🥹❤️🇧🇷
3:26 I do this a lot and for some times I wonder where did I get it from and now that I remember im really greatfull
How did his clothes change? He wasn’t wearing green clothes when he started flying!
I remember screaming in the theater at this continuity error and then having to stop the movie and drag me out.
Keep in mind that the Lost Boys are living on IMAGINARY food, and the area of the island where they live has a section that's filled with snow and penguins. Obviously, Peter's clothes changed thanks to the magic that makes up Neverland.
A damn sight better film than Peter Pan and Wendy. Or should I say, just Wendy?
Cute

Don’t forget to think happy thoughts daily ladies and gentlemen! All you need is one to fly. Or if you’re into Harry Potter, don’t forget to cast your patronous daily to keep away the demons (or dementors) :D
I wish you would've held on to your happy thoughts and not leave us before your time
Um, one question: How did Peter change his clothing after flying out of the cave? Just wondering.
He imagined it green and it happened LOL
You're trying to make sense of a world where no one ages.
The basic idea of Nederland is its fantastical. It's a childhood imagination realized.
Neverland essentially makes child like imagination reality. Once Peter remembered who he was and his past, I imagine his clothing simply changed to match his old outfit. It's the same reason the Croc comes back to life later. Hook imagined the Croc coming back to eat him when in reality it was just the noise of air rushing out of the taxidermied body. Hooks imagination made the corpse come back to take him. Peters imagination of himself being that same 10 year old 30 years ago changed his outfit.
Where is this place is is there a place here is there a place here now
