  • When you go on a job interview, they are going to ask, What are your I'm going to show you how to answer the weakness question the right way. So, do you know why employers even ask about your most significant weakness? It’s because they find it in a list of questions that they should ask candidates. That's it!
    It has no real bearing on the job unless the employer is asking the question tactfully and is looking to see if you are humble to admit your weaknesses and to understand what areas you need to grow in for the job at hand. Employers should be talking about my strengths and what I can do for you, not what I can't do for you.

    So, you have to understand; there are two types of weaknesses. There are personality traits and you have skills. So, when you're answering this question, you have to pick whether you want to choose a personality trait or a skill to talk about a weakness. A skill related example is usually best. But I've used personality traits and skills with great success.
    Some people will tell you not to use a personality trait as a weakness, because personality traits are more inborn and they're harder to correct and fix. So, if you have some personality traits that are a problem, it's unlikely that you resolved them by the time you're interviewing at a company.

    I'll play devil's advocate here by saying that it's really hard for an employer to find an appropriate candidate for a job. So anything we can do to get more information from a potential employee may be helpful. Asking a question like this is more about the reaction than the answer, in my opinion. Cheers, Don.

      stupid trap question asked by stupid interviewers

  • @7oy
    @7oy 5 лет назад +17

    Pretty much spot on.
    I interview people and never ask this question. I cringe at the thought of asking it.
    I recruit graduates from college for training positions in the accounting field.
    My common questions involve asking them why they chose the course and what their best and worst subjects wore. For example we do a lot of tax work so if they say tax was their worst subject it is a big drawback.
    Asking them how they deal with conflict gives insight into their attitude.
    And of course I like to ask why I should hire them to see how well they’ve prepared and thought it through. I think somebody with a great answer to this has done their homework and come prepared for what they’ll be asked. That to me shows eagerness and determination too.
    Other than some of those common questions I just asked them about their knowledge of the software packages listed on their CVs, what they thought they’ve learned from previous jobs that could end up benefiting them in this new field, etc.

      Hi 7oy, I’m looking to find a job in accounting and I’m currently studying AAT however I’m struggling to get a position to gain experience and training. Is there any way I could contact you to see if there’s something we could do to move forward.

    I just watched a different video on this same topic and the gentleman who made the video said the question was designed to immediately narrow down the field of prospective employees. (I suppose this is true only if someone is very honest and has some terrible character traits or habits). Maybe it is designed to see how well people can lie.

    I think you’re wrong about this being a stupid question to ask as an interviewer. I see it as a self-awareness question. You would be surprised how many candidates I’ve interviewed that told me they have no weakness or can’t think of any. These people will not take criticism well.

      I can relate to this but definitely don't use that in an interview lol. I think for my next interview I'm gonna say that I can be very critical of myself sometimes. It's honest and probably most people can understand therefore they probably won't place too much judgment upon you.

    I get it if this practice is widespread and accepted by employers too, but telling about a weakness one has overcome is really not answering the question "What is your biggest weakness / one of your weaknesses?".
    Then, again, if everyone is fine with putting up with the show about this question, I'm fine with it because it gives a simple way to handle it. But I was just reflecting about it.

    • @DonGeorgevich
      @DonGeorgevich  3 года назад +1

      The key is to rewrite the question and you give them the weakness and then you told them that you overcame it.
