    Sir, you are simply the best reviewer on the internet. I have had my heart set on a Boxster S, but now I have to also consider the Cayman.
    Whatever I finally buy, I am sure I will love my Porsche.

      Autogefühl In terms of the clicking sound when shifting to neutral, I tested a lightly used cayman GTS 2015 yesterday and I noticed a weird sound. They didn't allow me to test drive it without a proof of the cash, however I just turned the car on and shifted through gears while the car was stopped and I noticed the clicking sound "not smooth" when going into the gears unlike whats in the video "going into nuteral".
      Have you had the same issue? Was normal?

    I really like this guy. Although English is his second language, he is so articulate in portraying his thoughts and feelings about even the most minute details of the cars. He’s like an artist, painting his thoughts on video, a Michaelangelo, using his voice, his hands and motions, and he’s quite a driver also.

      After watching your video,I'm definitely going to save some money to buy a Cayman in the future :-) Probably not the GTS,but the base version with the 2.7 litres engine.
      Can you tell me if it is a good car to drive on a daily basis?

    Just a superb review of this fantastic car. I just traded in my 2002 911 Turbo (X50), and my 2016 Mercedes Benz S550 4-Magic, on a 2019 Porsche 718 GTS. I have not yet taken delivery of my Carmine Red beauty as there is a temporary halt on releasing them due to two recalls. One recall is for a radio software upgrade, and the second recall is for a front end riveting requirement to further strengthen the car in case of frontal impact. But these reviews of Caymans and Boxters are particularly helpful to me. I have not yet even driven a Cayman, but I am convinced it will be a wonderful exchange of cars. Thank you so much for your special reviews of these cars for us car enthusiasts! :-)

    Very thorough review, which anyone who is considering buying one would appreciate. Mid engine, excellent sound and fairly practical. The sports steering wheel and shift knob are almost works of art. It all makes for a great sports car experience. The steering is not as good as the older caymans, admittedly; but it's still decent and not enough to not buy one, IMO.

    Great review. As a 911 fan and owner I can only praise the sound of a naturally aspirated boxer 6, even if slightly differently tuned on the Cayman/Boxster, to me the best motorcar symphony in the world... never fails to give me goosebumps. Your test car was so harsh because it featured the optional lowered suspension and, weirdly enough, 19" wheels when in most markets 20" is standard for the GTS. Was it loaded with winter tires maybe? Those extreme bucket seats are optional too, so to me the perfect config would be stock suspension and basic sports seats with optional limited slip diff. AND manual stick of course!
    PD: The M235i with LSD is a tight competitor for this car too. Not to mention the imminent M2.

    Thanks for answering my query. But I don't think I worded it well. What I meant was - if the GTS is too hard core, how about the Cayman S or Boxster S as the alternative. In your commentary you only suggest the standard (if there can be such a thing) Cayman or Boxster as the alternative to the GTS. Is it worth the extra money for the 3.4 litre 'S', over the 2.9 litre standard model?
    Thank you.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  9 лет назад

      Greg M I see your point. Well the most important thing is that you shouldnt go for the bucket seats as they are bollocks for everyday driving. You should ask yourself how sporty it shall be and how much comfort do you want to have. Most comfort: Go for normal version, lil more sporty: Go for S version. The 3.4 is really an awesome engine

  • @RISCy27
    @RISCy27 9 лет назад +3

    Thank you for nice and long review! You could have mentioned that your test car had the optional sports suspension and not the PASM that the GTS comes with as standard. With the PASM when in comfort mode the ride quality is perfectly ok even on rougher roads.
    I totally agree with you on the colour. It does not come across so well in the video but in real life the colour looks stunning.
    I have driven both the Cayman GTS, the 991 C2S and 911 C4 GTS and in terms of driving pleasure the Cayman is miles ahead on the 911. The difference in power between the two is mostly only noticeable when you really step on it (only there the 911 really comes to life).
    The Cayman GTS exhaust sounds incredible when the flaps are open and a lot better than the Cayman S sports exhaust. The bucket seats were not so comfortable for me. I am 6.1 ft or 187 cm tall and I found them to cause my back to be too round. The standard sport seats plus are perfect for me.
    All in all, like you, I like the 981 Cayman better than the 991 911 even in GTS trim.
    Thanks again for the review, but please work a little on your English and especially on your accent. Other than that I am really looking forward to your next reviews.

    Great review! To answer your question I love the looks, probably even more than the 911. Maybe it's the mid-engined layout and so the proportions, but I think maybe it looks a little more modern and I like the 918 inspired headlights. The view through the windscreen with the curves of the front wings or fenders is something special too.

    As with any automatic spoiler, you can operate it for cleaning and maintenance. Also, if you could not operate it manually, it would be evidence that you were speeding in many scenarios, if extended automatically at 120, only.

    Personally, I think that a dark, shiny blue, such as Mercedes' Cavansitblau/Cavansite blue would have been perfect! As for the car, some people say that it the best handling car ever made, since it is so light, and the chassis is so firm. Do you agree? A great review, as always.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  10 лет назад

      Anwar Afhim Indeed this is the best handling car I have driven so far. McLaren 12C was very brutal and felt too "long", 911 Turbo S was perfect was definitely heavier, F-TYPE R was a lot of fun but not that "perfect" as for driving, so the Cayman GTS is imho the best for precision handling imho.

    The normal Cayman GTS comes with PASM. In normal mode it's quite nice on city roads. The car reviewed is on the no cost X73 Sports Chassis. That's why the suspension is harsh. I'll still go with X73 because I drive a lot of mountain passes but both suspension types are superb.

    A wonderful review. Better than most of the professionals. I am planning to buy a Boxster next year but wanted to hear about the Cayman GTS. I want both actually - but not possible. But at the end, you said for normal use you would opt for the regular Cayman and not the GTS. Why did you not say that you would opt for the Cayman S instead of the GTS? Was that a small mistake in your commentary? Thank you so much for an intelligent and thoughtful review. I agree with what you say about the beauty of the machine. More beautiful than the Boxster - but I live in the hills behind Adelaide city in Australia and roof down motoring in a Boxster is better than the fixed roof of the Cayman. Right now I drive a retractable roof Mazda MX 5 - which is great but I am looking forward to a more muscular car.

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  9 лет назад

      Greg M Thanks, appreciated! Well I think if you dont want the ultimate performance, a basis Cayman will do just fine, that's what I was suggesting. And it is more comfortable in everyday driving. Go for the Boxster of course - covertible always beats coupe in driving fun :)

    You seem to always like Blue, you said the same thing about the AMG GT. In the US, the Cayman is considered the Lady's Porsche, Although I agree, I like it better, the rear end makes the entire car seems more "harmonic". I also agree about the ceramic brake rotors, it's not needed on a street car, and they are un-godly expensive to replace. Another great review

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  9 лет назад

      +Scott Lockhart yeah I prefer blue exterior :) thanks! The good thing with ceramic btw is that the weight is way less (but still not important for normal customer) and your rims dont get dirty by braking dust that easily =) But 8 k extra for that ... whoah

    • @StreetFlys
      @StreetFlys 9 лет назад

    Great review of a great car. I like your honesty and level of detail in your reviews.
    I think you are right the Cayman has better design proportions, but the 911 has so much more herritage and is a true icon. On the other hand I think you can have at least as much fun in the Cayman as in the 911. Choosing between a F-type or a Cayman....hmmm I can't tell, the F-type is such a delicate good looking car, but the Cayman drives better probably. If you can spend the money, the choices won't getting easier :)

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  10 лет назад

    This model Cayman will no doubt go down as one of the best looking cars of all time, considering they already changed it on the 718 and IMO the 2nd generation is better looking.

    I'm in love with this car. I also love the color, but the wheels are a chunky, cheap looking mismatch for the rest of the car.
    The Carrera S Wheels in metallic gun metal or gloss black, or the 911 Turbo Design wheels are a much better fit visually.

      I don't like the turbo wheels, they look big on a Cayman/ Boxster.

    Great review - enjoy all of your comprehensive reviews of Porsches. I need some advice. Porsche have given me an excellent value on my trade in - Ferrari 360 Spider MT. They have given me the last allocation order for Cayman gts. I'm trading the Ferrarri (I love the car) but want a sports car I can drive everyday that is midengine. So should I go for the gts or used 2015 boxster spyder. I like your review of the Porsche 718 but can't go from a Ferrari V8 tubi exhaust to a turbo 4 . Also do you think Porsche will bring out a new gts with a 6. Thanks for your feedback.

      .... What the hell were PAG brass on or smoking when casting the dice on the 4 cylinder engine development for the PAG mid-engine chassis cars;.. Boxster and Cayman... Oh and the neu name prefix 718... WTF ?...; A wider view of the 4cyl turbo engines could be the potential of a lower tier marketed VW badged sports car... Or lower tier marketed PAG vehicle... ??? Go figure... The 4cyl audio track sucks....

    Could you write some comment about Cayman vs F-Type which you have reviewed early? Which you like more?

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  10 лет назад

      Tomas Rutkauskas Sure. I had the F-TYPE convertible as V8S and the F-TYPE R Coupé. Both are also very emotional cars and a lot of fun to ride. The Cayman is the perfect machine, totally balanced and precise. There can hardly be any sportier car from serial production. The F-TYPE has some more brutality, you feel the heavy engine in the front is making the rear lighter. So if you search perfection and great lap times you better go for the Cayman/Boxster, if you want something more unpredictable, go for the F-TYPE. Also I think the F-TYPE is more comfy for everyday riding. Both F-TYPE and Cayman/Boxster are surely the most fun cars at all you can buy at the moment.

    Hey Autogefühl, du kannst ja auch deutsch und nicht nur englisch;) Klasse Video echt Top und auch hab mich total in die GTS Modelle des Boxsters und Cayman verliebt und auch die normalen oder S Modelle sind fantastisch und der Boxster keinesfalls mehr ein "Frauenauto" (wenn er es überhaupt je war). Boxster und Cayman faszienieren mich vom Design her und vom Preisleistungs Verhältnis, denn man kriegt fast einen 911 Motor für deutlich weniger Geld! Aufjedenfall war dein Video Klasse aber ich hab eine Frage, wenn dies eine wie du sagtest Voll ausgestattete Version des GTS war, warum hattest du dort dann kein Sportlenkrad mit z.b. Schaltwippen?:) Liebe Grüße, Teichi!

    Hey, did you try the different settings to have a smoother ride in city traffic? Did you notice any difference? Maybe you had the car still in sport mode, with the hard suspension setup?
    If it is still to hard the setup, yes, then I would probably stay with the Cayman S instead. Thought that ride was awesome when I tried once.

      Yes, awesome video, too. Thanks! For sure a perfect car. But I never forget the sound from the six cylinder boxter engine right behind my back when I had my first Cayman experience. I am afraid I will miss that with the 718. But I will give it a try.
