Another great video with great delivery, as always. I would also like to complement the beautiful footage in this episode; the sharp red paint contrasting the leaves flowing over and around the Porsche's taut skin was a site to behold! -AM
GTS actually has different sport exhaust than a regular Cayman or S, and the change is similar to what was started in the 997.2 911 GTS. Basically, there are closed tubes connected to the intakes that route yet more noise to vents behind you. Took me a while to locate them in mine, but they're there, and not in a PSE-equipped S.
I totally agree. I have had the car for 3 months now and it puts a smile on my face every time I turn the ignition on, every time I take off from a signal. Its an amazing machine, engineered to precision.
+Naveen Kumar Venkatesh Congrats! So happy for you! How did you spec your car, and how much did it end up costing...I'm looking at both the Cayman and the Boxster S, kinda torn for choice right now..
My car has Sport chrono, 20" turbo wheels (same wheels as the car in this video), premium seats, premium plus package, infotainment with bose, PDK, sport exhaust. I did not go for PTV and PASM.
Nice write up. I've had mine for seven weeks now, it's a really nice car to see in the driveway every morning, just waiting for me. Having a surgically repaired left knee, I went for the PDK transmission knowing that I plan to drive this car into my old age. I like how the car is really docile and friendly as long as you keep it below 3000 RPM, but turns into a demon above 4000. :)
Great video. I love the laid back feel and relaxing editing. It's a nice departure from the normal car review. Some more audio clips of the exhaust would be great though.
One of the best reviews of the Cayman S/GTS : accurate engine sound reproduction, great camera shots, clever commentary! Keep it up! Edit: I like this review so much that I even forgot that I had written a comment about it already.
Great review! I don't know why there aren't any other comments here. I mentioned this previously.....your auto reviews are some of the very best on RUclips.
Saw this and your terrific review of the 2015 Mustang GT. Hard to choose now. I haven't driven the new Mustang with the performance package, but I loved the Cayman as it no longer felt like a Boxster sibling. More 911 Jr. Thanks for the informative reviews on both cars
Great reviews Brian! I just got my first porshce the 2015 cayenne and now getting great interests on the cayman your review is so easy to understand and always gives a good angle, your point of views! keep it up! you will be the great car reviews on youtube!!
Thank you! We appreciate it and it's positive comments like yours that keep us going! Be sure to test drive a Cayman for yourself. You'll love it! Congrats on your Cayenne, it's a fantastic machine!
Cool review, thanks for not calling the front trunk a 'frunk'. Until recently I never gave the Cayman a second thought, now I question why I ever liked '911s'
Thanks for this enthusiastic review, rhetorically perfect as always, I had the boxster last type but with the 6 cylinders machine and comparing the sound of the actual 4 cylinders machine is to my opinion more synthetic as before, but there is a wonderful road holding with this mid engine concept and the PDK is so quick, outstanding.
Brian Makse - yeah oldie, but great review. I was trolling through Caymen reviews and forgot how great this was. Looking forward to your next Porsche review 😉👍
Like to see you review the GT4 in the coming months. Likely after the Geneva show when the GT4's come to NA markets. Hope Porsche will change their minds and offer it with a PDK transmission.
At this point, after having driven the first gen Cayman S and watching/reading countless reviews about the second gen, I am totally convinced that this car has superseded the 911 as a driver's car. What took Porsche so many years to refine in the 911 with the rear engine layout, they seemed to get it right with the Cayman's mid-engined layout from day one. This GTS pretty much puts the nail in the coffin for me. It is the 911 that was the 997 generation and older. With the new 991 generation set out to take hypercars and sheer performance, its become such a technological marvel, that it might as well drive itself. I will always put my money on the Cayman, and will buy one, even if it is the first gen. I can't wait to see the Jaguar F-Type with a manual transmission get reviewed. Saw the car at Detrtoit auto show and made me a little teary. Its getting tough out there to find purist cars that appeal to old school drivers and don't break the bank. Glad to see some fine automobiles and as always, awesome footage Brian. I'll also be waiting for a GT350 Mustang review !!
Nick Busato I have to agree with you about the GTS chassis and driver's car points. The Jag is the new hooligan kid though and their is no harm in that :)
In my own head I would rather not have a car fight me on a track day. Sure the Jag is fun, but its not exactly what I call confidence inspiring on the limit. The Cayman is much sharper, planted and a little more progressive.
I'd take the Jag - but I'm not a track-rat like Nick or Brian. I like the 'idiocy-factor' of the F-type. The Porsche is quite likely the better car in every measurable way.
Brian Makse exactly. Cayman is the best car porsche make but 911 is the flagship. If porsche take the cayman horse power around 480bhp no one will buy a 911 anymore. Keep up the good work. Peace
Favourite car. Much better than a super/hypercar with tons of power that are not usable in real life. I live in a twisty roads kind of place and this is this is the perfect car for those conditions.
nicely done - twisty country road shots where nice - way better than the other 99% of these car reviews screaming round a race track - i mean 99% of us never do that ! - lots of shots of the car too - nicely done !
I'm A bit confuse here, need your help if possible, 3 months ago I order me one of this, should be here the 26th of next month :) , while building the car at the dealer one of the things that I really want it on the car was the 20 mm lower suspension, The dear sale rep. told me to chose the sport suspension which it will add an extra button on the console. But one of your fowlers says that the car with 3 buttons like the one you show here has the lower suspension ?? my has 4. Thank you. Joe
Thanks Brian. In a few fan magazines over here I have seen it with a GT3 engine. Would love to know from somebody who drives better than I do how the chassis handles that extra power. BTW, my personal limit on the Autobahn was with the sister car, the boxster at 260 kph. (No not mine!)
The chassis is more than capable and you can fit good dampers and tires, so I think a Cayman with 500 hp is totally livable. I'd love to try it. Boxster at 260? I'm sure that was interesting!
Brian Makse It taught me something I had never even thought about. The car had a sports suspension for some reason and on some old parts of the A7 running north to south, I had to back off. Maybe just my nerves but I did not feel that confident with the car hopping.
I believe that's entirely unpossible, however, it's basically a $10k testing cost that Porsche would have to absorb. Will they or won't they? They did with the new GT3 as well as last gen Cayman...
Brian Makse Yes the 2016 Cayman GT4 has the carbon seats as an option fellas. All beit a 4,700. dollar option, but an option none the less. Its also packing a 3.8l flat 6. @ 385 hp. I'm waitin on you Brian for this Cayman GT4 review that I KNOW your dying to do man..lmao. If I had the money I would buy the GT4. Send it to Sharkwerks and have them punch the 3.8 out to a 4.2L Can you say 550-600 Naturaly Aspirated Porsche/Sharkwerks power in a Mid engine, 2953lb car. Now thats what I'm talking about. C'MON LOTTERY..lmao.
***** Well, some people just prefer to row their own gears. Its the same way with paddle shifter guys who seem to be the wannabeF1guys that always bring up racing drivers in Formula 1 as their prime reasoning for choosing a DSG gearbox. Not to mention, "OH IT SHIFTS FASTER THAN ANY HUMAN CAN." Well hey, I'm sure autonomous vehicles will lap any track faster than any human would pretty soon, but you don't hear us complaining. If you stand up for nothing, you will fall for everything !! Enjoy being Schumacher on your way to the grocery store while it lasts. Your kids will laugh at you with your stupid gear change buttons...
647killa ***** I don't know why people take such a hard line on this stuff. Sometimes manual boxes are kinda crap, like early 991 gen 991s, and sometimes they're brilliant, perfectly matched to the car. Same goes for dual clutches and some cars work better with them. The 458's is perhaps the best in the game and the Veyron's is so effective it's mind blowing. Is insisting on a manual a point of automotive snobbery? It may be.
Brian Makse i never intended for snobbery. i'm an actual buyer, unlike most youtubers, and i've been searching for a new car with a manual transmission to replace my e46 m3. its very frustrating here in ontario dealerships and i do therefore rejoice when a car makers offers a manual. im still waiting patiently for a replacement, and i might even go ahead and buy an M235i 6 speed manual in 2 months time. i dont care much for a dual clutch as i go to cayuga and mosport every summer, and the last thing i care about is fast laps and a dual clutch box.
647killa My mistake, my comments weren't directed at you, mate. It was more a thinking out loud thing. M235 is a brilliant choice. We're testing the xDrive version soon and I'm curious how that changes the car.
Brian, love your reviews. I am seriously considering the Cayman S vs actually a new Ford Mustang GT. Having driven both, and considering the huge price difference, which one do you prefer?
Thanks! Really apples and oranges here. There's a level of refinement, in just about every possible way, that you get with the Cayman. Between these two, it's the Cayman for me. The mid engine, precision of all of the controls, and seating position are inherently superior to the Mustang, but again those are really two different cars. Are you going to track your car? How are you planning to use it?
Brian Makse Mostly just fun afternoon drives, a rare occasional track day (I work weekends). The Cayman just looks and sounds so great. Mustang has the cost appeal but also has improved so much since the last generation.
cobralep You're right, but drive both. Who knows, the torque and sound of the GT might be more appealing to you than the precision of the Cayman. Or, you might say really appreciate the dynamics of the mid engine layout of the Cayman. That's a great problem to have!
Thanks! I think that used to be the case, but now, dollar for dollar, the Cayman GT4 out performs any 911. That said, both the 911 and Cayman are amazing machines in their own right.
+Hüseyin Tutkulu No cayman is turbo, not even the GT4. That said the next generation Caymans will be four pot turbos. We will see them for the first time as perhaps a 2017 model year.
Brian Makse Obviously it's not "(A)ll over downtown"...cmon, there are no highrises and there's even farm eqt! If you don't want to disclose the location, fine, but don't take me for a fool. Jeez.
The Skill Sessions Apologies, thought I was commenting on another video of ours, not Cayman GTS! This obviously wasn't downtown, but it was all filmed within the city limits, believe it or not!
Great review, but I disagree that the GTS is a good deal. You can do much better with the Cayman S and just put in the options you need. On the Cayman you where driving, that red deviated stitching alone costs $5K and you will find the 20" standard wheels in most cities would make it a punishing daily driver.

+xxijoseaixx Gotcha, thanks. We do use that angle as often as we can. POV is easy if we use GoPros, but we try to avoid using them. Perhaps we'll have to add them back in to our shoots.
I didn't drive this one on track, so I couldn't possibly answer that. Plus, they're really apples and oranges, those two. Both are an absolute blast to drive, but that Z06 is supercar fast.
Another great video with great delivery, as always. I would also like to complement the beautiful footage in this episode; the sharp red paint contrasting the leaves flowing over and around the Porsche's taut skin was a site to behold!

Thanks, Adam! I wish we could take credit for that, but all we had were a couple of hours to shoot this one, and I guess we made the best of it.
GTS actually has different sport exhaust than a regular Cayman or S, and the change is similar to what was started in the 997.2 911 GTS. Basically, there are closed tubes connected to the intakes that route yet more noise to vents behind you. Took me a while to locate them in mine, but they're there, and not in a PSE-equipped S.
yes but its only to kid you on its louder than it actually is externally-a pedestrian walking by would hear no difference.
+Naveen Kumar Venkatesh Congrats! Well done! What colour and spec did you get?
My car has Sport chrono, 20" turbo wheels (same wheels as the car in this video), premium seats, premium plus package, infotainment with bose, PDK, sport exhaust. I did not go for PTV and PASM.
+Naveen Kumar Venkatesh Great spec! I do like PASM for my roads, for sure.
Nice write up. I've had mine for seven weeks now, it's a really nice car to see in the driveway every morning, just waiting for me. I like how the car is really docile and friendly as long as you keep it below 3000 RPM, but turns into a demon above 4000. :)
Brilliant. It's such an excellent car, very, very approachable in day to day driving and near its limits on track. Which colour did you choose?
0:24 to 0:36 is the best, most accurate reproduction of the Cayman engine sound in all of RUclips! Awesome video.
Great video. I love the laid back feel and relaxing editing. It's a nice departure from the normal car review. Some more audio clips of the exhaust would be great though.
Thanks, Adam! I thought we had some exhaust bits in this piece. It's been a few weeks since I looked at this one.
One of the best reviews of the Cayman S/GTS : accurate engine sound reproduction, great camera shots, clever commentary! Keep it up!
Edit: I like this review so much that I even forgot that I had written a comment about it already.

Guys.. exceptional review. The shot between 5:48 and 5:56 is utterly perfect.
You did this car justice.
Zachary Lukes Thanks mate. I was pretty happy since we filmed this super quickly. Even on an overcast day the red still looked great IMO.

Great review of a car that I'm looking at purchasing now in February 2017.
As the new Cayman 2017 engine is not has much sports like..
Thanks again
Cool review, thanks for not calling the front trunk a 'frunk'. Until recently I never gave the Cayman a second thought, now I question why I ever liked '911s'
Thanks! We loathe that word, too. And really dig the GTS!
Drew Flanagan
In Australia the rear storage is called a boot. I therefore called the front storage “froot” pronounced “fruit”
Awesome stuff Brian! Your channel is really good - always look forward to your videos. Best reviews on RUclips!!
Thanks! This is an oldie but a goodie. One of our favourite cars and favourite shoots, too!
Brian Makse - yeah oldie, but great review. I was trolling through Caymen reviews and forgot how great this was. Looking forward to your next Porsche review 😉👍
Loved the review, already loved the car but great to hear yet more praise for it. Last scene was almost spine tingling with the music - very nice

Manual f-type will be exciting but the GTS chassis is just on another level. It is the best driver's car I have had the pleasure of driving as of yet.

top car and an amazing review to go along with it...I wonder if you could somehow order a set of the buckets from Europe and have them installed...
I believe that's entirely unpossible, however, it's basically a $10k testing cost that Porsche would have to absorb. Will they or won't they? They did with the new GT3 as well as last gen Cayman...

all it needs is the GT3's 9K RPM redline 6 cyl and holy shit this thing would be amazing.
...and throw the GT3's PDK in and it'd be a killer. Let's see what the GT4 looks like, hopefully that'll be announced soon.

Beautiful, was that the Carmine red?
I'm seriously tempted by the GTS, but I think I'll hold on till we know more about the GT4 :)
It is indeed Carmine Red. I like this spec except for the wheels.
Brian Makse
What do you not like about the wheels? Those are the Carrera S ones right?
***** These are the Turbo Design wheels. I much prefer the Carrera wheels. For me, this Turbo wheel is incongruous with the aesthetics of the car.
Great video as usual Brian, some say that porsche is affraid to say that the cayman is better more balanced driving car than the iconic 911.
Thanks! I think that used to be the case, but now, dollar for dollar, the Cayman GT4 out performs any 911. That said, both the 911 and Cayman are amazing machines in their own right.
Very nice in pull me over OPP red.
such an awesome car
It is indeed.
Hi guys i want to know it. Which models of the Porsche Cayman series turbo ?
I know it GT4 is turbo but Cayman GTS and Cayman S turbo also?
+Hüseyin Tutkulu No cayman is turbo, not even the GT4. That said the next generation Caymans will be four pot turbos. We will see them for the first time as perhaps a 2017 model year.
Good review, thumbs up !
Thanks! And thanks for watching!
Definitely my next car
Quality production. Where exactly did you film it? Nice roads.
Thanks! We shot this in Toronto, all within the city limits, I think.
Brian Makse What streets exactly? Would love to explore there.
The Skill Sessions All over downtown. Should be obvious. I take it you're not from Toronto.
Brian Makse

Great review. What a Car...
How was the ride quality? Would it be fine for city driving?
PASM makes it wonderful for an type of road. No worries.
I’m now very interested!
Nine years later?
Absolutely stunning
would you rather have the carreara gts cayman gts or boxster gts
904 GTS.
Your in Ontario!
No kidding!
Love the dead leaves and the piano. Where's Kate Bush ?
I wish we could afford her music!
Great review, but I disagree that the GTS is a good deal. You can do much better with the Cayman S and just put in the options you need. On the Cayman you where driving, that red deviated stitching alone costs $5K and you will find the 20" standard wheels in most cities would make it a punishing daily driver.
Almost fell asleep from the ending soundtrack
Impressed with Cayman and your review as well! Pleasure to watch you! Keep it up please :) Sub+like
Thanks! Be sure to tell your friends!

+xxijoseaixx Thanks! What did you like about this one?
+Brian Makse I did enjoy the camera angle you used at 2:59 in those curvy roads, would be nice to see some POV drives like the Vehicle Virgins channel did with the corvette Z06 video.
+xxijoseaixx Gotcha, thanks. We do use that angle as often as we can. POV is easy if we use GoPros, but we try to avoid using them. Perhaps we'll have to add them back in to our shoots.
+Brian Makse Go pros are banned, they look horrific next to anything filmed on the GH4, especially in 4k.
The best value modern Porsche you can buy today
I would still agree. Too bad they didn't sell in plentiful numbers.
Pretty good review. You failed to mention the erection induced under hard acceleration. From the combination of the noise, vibration, and g force
+Subaru Pilot Wrong channel, mate. That's subaruwrxfan you're looking for.
+Brian Makse lol well played
+Subaru Pilot There's no playing. That's the truth.
+Subaru Pilot Is that the James May fizzel?
Did you enjoy driving this car more than the corvette zo6?
I didn't drive this one on track, so I couldn't possibly answer that. Plus, they're really apples and oranges, those two. Both are an absolute blast to drive, but that Z06 is supercar fast.
You didn’t mention anything about the engine capacity. Reliability Pros and Cons… what kind of a reviews is that???
If you want specs, get a brochure. Tell me how anyone can report on reliability after a seven day test, genius.
This music makes me want to just buy one and drive far away
I enjoyed it. Not too long….😊
Thanks for the excellent review. This car a cheaper 911? Hmmmmmmmmmm...
