    Matts car is stunning,great spec.I only have a 2.7 base cayman,but it does have 20” Carrera S wheels and GTS rear lights,which both improve the looks,in my opinion.I am pleased you have made up your mind Max with regards to the GT4,as I said previously you can get caught up in the moment.Your 987.2 CS is a great car and if it puts a smile on your face then that’s enough,take care.

    Thanks Max. Particulate filters make all the difference. In countries where there is no particulate filter you will be amazed at how loud the 718 GT4 is! I think many reviews speak about it but don’t realize that this is how it’s going to be due to regulations. It’s not the car it’s the laws!

    That’s a really nice example Matt, were it mine it would be a long term ownership, as in a keeper. Good to see the Cayman flat six that was the basis of the new 718 GT4. Sound of the exhaust for me is just right, the colours inside and out are spot on. Glad you took Max out & let him experience the positives the GTS has to offer & make comparisons between it & the 718 GT4. Perhaps we’re going to be having a series on 981’s in the future. That’ll do for me.

    Better sell as it will depreciate quick with the introduction of 718 GTS 4.0

    • @ZDY66666
      @ZDY66666 4 года назад +2

      lol no. It will and has depreciated 5k to 8k depending on your area. Previously 981 GTS has pretty much held the same price tag for 2.5 years (unless heavily driven with high KMs). The GTS 4.0 is also a MUUUUUCHHHH higher MSRP starting price. It will not be the bane of this car at all. If anything, it makes this car seem like a steal....considering the GTS 4.0 offers a very similar driving experience, built on the same chassis (yea yea sure, "redesigned panels" that look, feels, and drives the same and barely different in weight), built on the same long ass gears and gear ratios etc. the 718 is still pretty much the same car we saw announced in 2012. in terms of driving characteristics and personality (unlike say the 987 vs the 981 where bigger things such as steering changed from hydrolics to power, engine changes, giant panel and chassis changes, etc etc etc)
      So no. It won't. (and it hasn't, at least not in my general area)

    • @Baerchenization
      @Baerchenization 4 года назад +2

      Definitely not. There is only a limited number of 981 GTS and it will still sound better than a 718 GTS. A 981 is such a modern and well-build car that newer does not mean better here. Actually there is a dude on RUclips researching and comparing price developments and he just did all the 981 and 718 models... that's for the US, but you can take a clue from that; there is a guy on the German Porsche forum who does sales/price stats as well. Short version: don't sell your GTS if you don't have to ;)

    Not to kick up another debate on PDK, but boy-oh-boy PDK seems so boring in this video. There is just no engagement with the car one iota

    • @geofo60
      @geofo60 4 года назад +3

      Julian Poole
      That’s a valid point for those who are able to use both legs. I’ve been a petrol head for over forty years and have fantastic memories of driving manual transmissions. Then my world was turned upside down following a bad spinal injury, broke my neck falling twenty feet off a ladder - embarrassing? - would have been less so if it was car/motorcycle accident. I’d always had a passion for Porsche since childhood, did lots of research into Caymans & PDK, how much money I was prepared to spend late in life. Found a gem of a 2015 981with 6500 miles on it, fsh & haven’t regretted it one bit. It changes gears faster than I could if I still had use of my left leg and does it at the right time. Moral of my story is I don’t think less of my Pcar because it’s not a manual, it’s obviously changed my driving habits, the interaction isn’t there in the way I would like it to be, but it’s probably going to stay with me until I’m unable to drive anymore. Unless I change it for a 981 GTS with PDK but I’d have to clear first with my grandson.

    • @julian987r4
      @julian987r4 4 года назад +2

      geofo60 Geof Harris oh gosh. Well I stand corrected as I hadn’t considered such life events like you have been through. I am sorry to hear that and can respectfully understand why PDK is, in a bittersweet way, perfect for you. Seems like you are enjoying life and cars to the Max which I sure Max would be thrilled about as am I.

    • @russelllutwyche5736
      @russelllutwyche5736 4 года назад +3

      Totally agree with you Julian, yes automatics may be very fast and silky smooth but how can removing the pure joy of manual gear changing in a sports car be a good thing? From a driver engagement point of view and when driving on twisty British roads anything that adds driver engagement has to be better.

    • @Baerchenization
      @Baerchenization 4 года назад +1

      @@russelllutwyche5736 It can be a good thing if you actually use the car to get around and not just for your Sunday morning drive in the countryside - in which case you gonna be stuck is traffic like everybody else. And then it is simply a different type of engagement: you can drive faster and simply better in the literal sense of the word. This has been said by skilled drivers re. the GT3 as well - you could never drive the car the same with a manual. If you are stuck behind a lorry up a mountain for 10 miles, you would also appreciate it ;) And if you are not stuck behind a lorry, you also appreciate it because as just said, you drive much better and get a different kind of enjoyment out of it. Actually that is also true on twisty British roads. Not everybody downshifts like a hero from 60 mph in to 2nd gear just before a bend -- but with a PDK everybody can.

    • @Jay-xr3sb
      @Jay-xr3sb 8 месяцев назад

      Manual does offer more engagement but not necessarily more fun.
      The gearing is so tall that you're mostly cross shifting between 2 and 3 with some forced changes for the heck of it. I doubt you'll down shift and rev match when really pushing it from 3 to 2. If the ratios were narrower then it would be better suited. Also the auto rev match is nice to get around this, makes you feel like a hero when you're not.
      The pdk makes sense for this car, force yourself to use manual mode and you become in tune with the revs. You actually have more engagement with the wheel and pushing it to its limits. You'll use more of the performance and revs because its so flexible and quick.
      Once done with spirted driving, stick it in auto and you're cruising with the top down, enjoying the views. Motorway journeys are pretty easy when needed.
      Pdk for sports, gt and daily needs.
      Manual for a weekend 2nd car, even then the gearing is an issue.
      I've driven a manual for 15 years, I'd go back in the right car.
