Very precise take! And that is actually, what Norman is trying to establish in the first place.
And why is it, that people from different countries with astonishing golf talent have moved to the United States? For getting payed more doing their thing…
Same thing in basketball, ice hockey as well. Now with a new entity offering more sallery for less work and they are pissed off. Surprise!

Well said! PGA Tour doesn’t care about the world beyond America. It has many events with depleted fields. Liv has the same players at every event and despite the negative comments from Peter, it is growing its fan base! JCB will be rocking in 24.

LIV is going to have 10x the audience of the PGA Tour in 5 years because it's a truly international golf leaague, it's growing experimentally in Asia and in Australia it just sold out the LIV Adelaide event in a matter of minutes.

Can't help but think that those behind the DP World tour are missing a chance here. How about giving the LIV players ten starts with winnings and full ranking points ? Surely, that would help boost the viewing figures and help build the game.

Can't wait for these podcasts, you guys do such a good job speaking about the game and not going so deep you lose people like me, the beginner. Appreciate all the hard work from the 4 of your (and others behind the scenes). My only criticism is your intro Jingle. The only thing preventing more players going to LIV is the majors. I think its no coincident Rahm moved after refreshing his major entries for the next 5 year with his Masters win. If the majors said they would offer spots to the x amount of top LIV players. I think you would see a lot more players move

Late with the comment, but I feel this needs to be said. Nike is not leaving golf apparel. This rumor started with a news article that Nike Golf US switched their distributor to a company called Mint Green. Mint Green is a Canadian company that distributes many golf brands line Srixon, Cleveland, XXIO, etc. They do other sports too, but mainly focuses on golf. Here's the thing, Mint Green has been Nike Golf (and tennis) Canada's distributor for many years. It's likely that Min Green has impressed Nike enough to expand their services to cover the US as well now.
That's all this is. Logistical changes.

I've been playing golf since I was 6. Ive watched golf since I was 14. It's now 25 years on and ever since LIV has come around and created drama, I've watched less golf than ever.
I tried watching LIV golf, but it's boring, lacks drama and any excitement is tempered by the fact there's no stakes.
PGA is losing stars, so naturally I also watch less of that too.
I have a good feeling that will end up dieing out, eventually, as people watch sports for _stories_ . There's no story in LIV. There's no one trying to keep their card. No one chasing history. They're just exhibitions.
It's not me being old. Story is what drives sport. LIV feels like what social media is today: quick hits of dopamine. It just lacks substance that story gives you. And I say this as someone who was on social media from it's beginning but then over time realized it didn't offer me anything. LIV is going to end up like that if it doesn't change.
And the PGA, who knows. I have no interest now really in either. Thanks, Norman.

With regard to the questions about why LIV players were playing on (and winning) DP Tour events: Those specific events were co-sanctioned by other organizations, like the Sunshine Tour, Australsian Tour etc. And Dean Burmester and Oosty are long-standing members of those tours.

First of all great content as allways! Talking about the John Rahm situation as a Spanish golfer I can say it's a big move... Most spanish golfer apart from Ryder and the majors wacht PGA on weekend if John is in contention and the DP world tour if Pablo, Oategui, Arnaus or any other Spainyard does well. Apart from that both tour are broadcast by a Payperview chanel that is quite expensive. I have a lot of latinamericans friends that tell me that audience in tv PGA event has drop down since LIV started and don't know the asian market but can say the aussies and southafricans are more interested in LIV. I understand most americans and British preffer PGa for the tradition and prestige but most upgrowing countries with a good potencial audience does not care that much about it. My self as an Spainard have the crossed feeling of sadness to not see John and other great player on the Sawgrass or Pebble Beach but also excited to see how thing evolve with both LIv and the PGA/DP world Tour.

Not very often have I heard anyone pinpoint the issue with LIV and profesional golf so good as Pete did, and it realy shows that he ment it. I could not agree more. Profesinal golf is daing and LIV-golf is the reason, or at least the start of the end. If not DP/pga do something people will stop care about golf at that level, but there is one plus; This opens up fpr a brand new start and maybe a new eara of golfers perhaps led by Rory/Tiger where there is room to realy make golf the greates game on earth again? I could not care less then LIV players, they dont even have to struggel to make milions, so where is the pressuer to be better? LIV is a joke.

Round cause I can actually follow what’s going on, I know who’s playing, I know who unlike, team coverage needs to improve but. I get the team’s thing, it adds something for everyone to play for in every round. So collated to every other tour, except the PgA you can’t say that it’s not a major improvement. The only thing the PgA has is legacy for some events. That’s it.

Why can’t the PGA and LIV trade players …. One could get large chances at cash and the LIV guys can get points ? Allow top fifty DP and PGA players to trade places for a few events , it could make the guys play harder, they just would only have a few shots at the prize. Have the money less on the old tours ( can’t afford new raise of funds anyway) make sure WRP points are enough to get a win or a few good showings get the LIV into majors. Denmark is listening :-) First of I gotta say honestly all this crap going on is starting to be to much, but with that said I startet playing golf just before LIV startet, for me its the stuff i watch its faster more fun and i dont have to sit and watch the tv for a hole day. But again regarding all this PGA LIV stuff I actually support Rahm's choice I mean who could say no. And he chose to do this for more time off, more time with family and because PGA is going behind the players back on so much stuff. Then we have the chairman in the PGA who changes hes mind more than anymore, and goes behind the players back again and again, so I actually think its the perfect time for Rahm to switch side, and even now one of pga's biggest sponsors of 20 years (wells Fargo) announced they pull back their sponsorship on pga So for me its fine he joined cause now i get to see him more. Greetings from Denmark

No doubt PiF will start a World singles tour over the next few years, especially if "the deal" doesn't work out with the PGA. Which I personally think is great for golf, the world will finally see all the best players live in thier country.. not just in the States or at a few Majors abroad (and that's if you're lucky enough to attend one).. They'll also play at epic courses that normally get shunned by the PGA.. which IS great for golf and the industry in general.. (no matter how much I hate that fraze great for golf myself 😂😂)

The problem with Liv is the product sucks. Nascar/Instagram version of golf. If I want to watch an exciting, fast-paced sport then I’m not turning on golf. If the PGA Tour crumbles, I still won't watch Liv golf. World Tour is becoming the best watch these days anyways, and the RUclips space fills much of the itch.
As for the ethical stance, it is different to actively and knowingly take part in the sportwashing of human rights violations. Especially as we see journalists around the world being targetted. To compare it to taking money from Wells Fargo or RBC (I'm under no illusion as to the purity of their investment practices) is VERY different. It's sad watching the conversation disappear, and to see the intentions of the Pif working on mass.

Is John Rahm going to LIV just going to open the floodgates for more players going to LIV? The more big names going to LIV is giving more strength to the LIV tour, and the PGA tour will start having to change their stance on the exclusion of LIV players. So will the Ryder Cup committee. The Ryder Cup will become pointless without all the big name golfers if they all start following John Rahm to LIV. The balance of power is unfortunately swaying more and more towards LIV. Just when golf was experiencing a resurgence in popularity, the rug has been pulled from underneath it's feet.

Just a note, it's the PGA (and DP World Tour) that created the situation where a player that moves to LIV has to leave the other tours. The original vision of LIV was that it was a form of "premium" World Tour that all players could take part in. By the PGA banning their player and effectively voiding player sponsorship and income, this required LIV to compensate monetarily the players that moved to LIV.
If you take cricket and the IPL, the national teams (e.g. Australia, England) did not ban players from taking part in the newly formed IPL. The players took part, gained experience, improved their skills, made their money and it was a win-win situation. In fact it was so good, it spawn a whole host of twenty-twenty series in their home countries that has brought in a brigade of new younger fans. In Australia the Big Bash is on prime time TV, something the previous interstate competitions could only dream of. And slowly, a new history and tradition is being made.
The PGA was greedy for sponsorship money and introduced their "wrap-around" year long schedule in 2013. Hence the PGA didn't want to/couldn't co-exist with LIV. This year-long schedule has also been responsible for effectively killing the local tournaments of Australia, South Africa because they used to exist in the PGA "off season". Once the "off season" was scrapped by the PGA, the smaller tours could not attract big golf names to their own tours and hence could not attract big local sponsors.
For countries like Australia and South Africa, LIV has revived the local tours because LIV players in their off season can come back and support their own nation tours. In Australia, the Australian Open is a big deal again because the PGA of Australia had enough sense not to ban LIV players. And I did enjoy Joaquín Niemann come from behind and take the trophy.
As an Aussie, I do care and I do give a crap. I do follow LIV, but more importantly I am absolutely grateful that at least once a year, big names in golf are "able" to come to Adelaide, Australia and I get to watch in person for a reasonable ticket price and no international travel required.
What you are right is that I don't care how much LIV had to spend to get the big names away from the PGA, I "DO" care that these players are now more available to more people in markets other than the US and the UK. There was no chance I could be a few arms lengths from Bryson De Chambeau, Dustin Johnson and this year maybe even Jon Rahm if it wasn't for LIV. And what you haven't seen is the golf driving ranges in Adelaide filled with young people (teenagers and kids), following the LIV event, trying golf because the the LIV event showed them golf could be exciting!

Mick, first of all congratulations on your new haircut. That was almost unbearable. 😉
Personally, I find the TV broadcasts of the PGA and Liv Tour boring. I'd rather be on the golf course myself or watch golf vlogs on RUclips.
So I don't care which player is playing where. I find the whole discussion about where the money comes from to be flimsy. Half the Premier League is sponsored by money from Qatar and Saudi Arabia and hardly anyone on the island gets upset about that.

you are missing two points. One utube is taking viewers because its free Golf is pay per view on sky, US cable. Two the really big tv feed prices are defined by who controls or buys the feeds, sky etc are not the underlining consumer. The betting platforms that feed off the chinese are the big players. And they just want content. but that is the market that the Saudis are buying content for.

Take out the moral issues, I’m just disgusted that one country can turn a major sport on its ear by throwing such massive amounts of money at players. Way above market value as well, with no need to recoup the losses. What’s the endgame?

I consider myself a hardcore fan, I watch ridiculous amounts of both RUclips golf and the PGA Tour. I also watch quite a bit of European Tour (as it should be called) and even some women's golf occasionally. I have personalised leaderboards for each tour and follow players most people have never heard of.
Players chasing titles, records, WR points, or simply playing rights is what makes professional golf so appealing to me. Every single shot matters. This is why I have absolutely no interest in LIV whatsoever. It's basically an exhibition with nothing to play for but money. I love Jon Rahm but his defection makes no difference to me. Not interested, sorry.
So for someone like me who likes to see the best players compete as often as possible, the current situation is quite the nightmare. I worry about where professional golf is headed. I mean, look at these incredible sums of money being thrown around by LIV, it's not sustainable. We're in the last stages of a massive bubble which is about to burst and when is does, things are going to get ugly. Let's hope it will be nothing more than a purifying thunderstorm.

The only solution I can see is if Rory, Scheffler and Hovland join LIV then the PGA tour will agree to a merger with LIV. Rahm is a start but I think Yassir should pull out all the stops and get the rest of the top ranked players to LiV then his full house will beat Jay Monahans pair of deuces.

The PGA brought this on themselves. If they would have actually listened to the gripes of Mickelson and Norman, and then made some changes, LIV wouldn't have been able to get the players.

Such a poor narrative. PIF lured players through greed, plain and simple. Stop blaming the PGA for not being able to stand up against unlimited wealth. The PGA isn’t perfect, but the players were by no means suffering. If a true startup was created, with limited resources, the current scenario wouldn’t be happening because players wouldn’t have moved.

LIV... Haven't watched one minute of it. Won't watch one minute of it. As for Rahm, that's a shame but good riddance. Like Dustin, Bryson, and others, you'll become a non entity until the Majors roll around. And even at the Majors you'll feel the resentment.

I love this podcast but really feel like your guys views on liv, Jacob in particular (soz Jacob im actually a big fan of yours) are so naive. To say nothing could turn around your opinion of liv when you clearly haven't given it a chance is laughable, especially when you're supposedly excited for TGL, which is just a copycat concept on a smaller scale. The idea that the Saudi money should be an issue is also crazy - the PGA Tour was willing to take that exact same money, so there is now literally nothing stopping players from switching as they'd have gotten some of it anyway. The world is not full of goodies and baddies like in the movies, and as Pete says, there's dirty in money in sports the world over, that is just the reality of the world we live in. Give it a change and liv is actually an entertaining product and far more entertaining than sitting and watching the pga tour (excluding majors obvs).
Caveat that i am in no eay associated with liv, but i am a fan and watched all of the events last season (for free, in my own time, on their web platform). Liv is the evolution of golf, people just need to stop taking themselves so seriously and enjoy it for what it is

Professional golf is anything but right now. I just cant get past 9/11, Kashoggi's murder and LGBTQ+ oppression when it comes to liv but I guess the players either don't care or just pretend its nothing to do with them. I will watch the majors to an extent, time difference being a factor, and the players. The rest is just uninspiring and like you guys I don't get a hoot how much money they win. I guess the reality is I would rather watch Grant, Micah, you guys than the average PGA event.

The Sunshine tour (SA) and the Australasian Tour dont really give a shite about the DP's desire to carry the bags for Jay and PGAT. We welcome all players dowunder, it is our tour that DP has co sanctioned probably as profile youtubers you should know that given the South African and Australian Opens are some of the oldest on the planet, there is a world beyond a bankrupt DP Tour and the attempts of monopoly from Jay and crew.

Peter has never been to a LIV event, never watches LIV yet keeps trashing it. Considering the best players are slowly becoming united(on LIV) and will be playing each other more regularly(which is what the fans have always wanted) it's pretty clear how this is all going to end up yet this podcast keeps on trashing it. Considering Peter/Rick(gets it) needs access to the best players for their business, a more pressing question for the future will be who will Peter collaborate with in the future? A really bizarre business strategy.
My advice would be to watch more LIV, go to an event(JCB next year) and read a little bit about the long-term plans instead of the current echo chamber that LIV is going to disappear.
