I came here to see if you commented on Scharf’s hole in one. I’m glad you had a take on it and it was a comical one. It is unreal that he is the one on good good that keeps getting the hole in ones. With all those good golfers you would think garrette, kwon, or Brad would be draining them. Kwon did have a hole in one on the par 3 course so we can’t discredit that but it is still unbelievable what Scharf has done.

Surely the main reason for Viktor Hovland and Jon Rahm not being involved in TGL is that (although based in the US, but in Oklahoma and Arizona respectively) and so therefore approximately 1400 and 2800 miles from where the event every Monday in Clearwater, Florida will be held! It's like asking a UK based golfer to travel every week to Egypt or Turkey and back just to hit some balls into a screen for couple of hours.

Every public golf course I know has a putting green and chipping area. They are open to the public at no cost as a way to invite people into the facility. The more you practice the better you play and the better you like golf. So maybe you pay to play the course there. Maybe after a long practice session you buy a cold drink. Maybe your practice session includes buying a bucket of balls for the range. The free putting/chipping area is a loss leader to generate foot traffic at their facility. No problem, no wrong in using the free facilities. A private club is different in that only members are allowed to use the facilities. So using the "members only" amenities when not a member, guest or patron (business meeting, etc) is wrong.

Hi Rick & guy, you may not see this but I wanted to say Thankyou because this show has really helped me in past year I am not a clubhouse member but I listen everyweek still and have done for the past year, I am in the army and soon to be discharged due to mental health problems and on my journey podcasts have helped so much most definitely this one, seeing how much you have grown over the years is inspirational, as I am at a minor set back in my career seeing you growth shows anything is possible, learning tips along the way from your channel, building my golf bag from your reviews, cobra speed-zone driver in bag to, going from not playing golf at all then seeing you vids making me want to play and then going for a round with my mates and turning it into my own little therapy session having a walk with mates and talking, but picking up the clubs has massively helped and listening and watching your content also has to but Thank you again and keep up the good work Aaron

Living in America, for a fully private golf course/country club, I would never just show up to use their facility to practice if I wasn’t with a member or trying the club out officially. Municipal course or public course, I would use the facility without having a tee time.

  • @robertfairchild8838
    @robertfairchild8838 9 месяцев назад +3

In the U.S., if it is a public course it is totally allowed. It's akin to the giant superstore giving out food samples for free to entice customers to buy the products. Yes a few will abuse it, but the stats show how many will actually buy once they've tried the sample. Golf courses know a golfer will probably never putt or chip on their greens and never play at the course. Also, pencils are free here. :)

Here in the U.S., it's completely acceptable to use the practice facilities (i.e; putting greens and short game areas) of public golf courses. DO NOT attempt it at a private golf club though (they have posted signage indicating for "Members Only" at the entrances). I work and have worked at several golf courses, and the public courses view these as viable and potential customers. I'd say 95% of those using the "free" practice facilities are also buying usage of the driving range and eventual rounds of golf... so we welcome them to use our putting green and practice areas, as long as they show respect and honor golf etiquette.

  • @gallzyrm

Great Podcast Rick! re turning up unannounced at a private membership course and using the putting and chipping facilities, it's not thieving, it's trespassing!! Personally I don't pay my membership to then have any Tom, Dick or Harry pitch up (pun intended) and use what we pay a premium for. Suggest you ask, you might be allowed or you may be turned away at the clubs discretion however at least you have had the decency to ask.

The TGL thing is more extreme than LIV. I'm a big fan of Rory and Tiger, but is it possible that they were so against LIV because they had invested so much in TGL? It seems a bit like a "throwing their toys out of the pram" situation. Although, I am intrigued to see how it goes.

If it works they will try to license it out or try to sell it to a company like Top Golf to expand their profile to attract more serious golfers who want more of a real golf feel and play big name courses around the world.

Matt Scharff's hole-in-one from 360yds is realistically the greatest golf shot on camera in history. Furthest hole-out on the PGA tour is 332 yards, the fact the Matt Scharff made it 28 yards further than that.

Do you not see the hypocrisy by those PGA/TGL players that speak out against LIV with comments such as "it's not real golf", "54 holes is not a tournament", "teams are distracting /bad idea"? Combine that with "no LIV players welcome" and hitting into screens, etc. I'm fine with TGL and LIV and PGA, etc. I'll watch what I alike and if I don't care for it, I won't watch it. I enjoy LIV a lot. Maybe I will enjoy TGL just as much. I will say PGA is less enjoyable to watch now that I've seen LIV. PGA is trying to enhance their offering and the broadcasts are picking up their graphic game almost positively due to LIV's graphics but there is a way to go yet. It seems the on-course commentators get less on airtime than they did for some reason. As has been the case for decades, competition breeds success.

I heard you read my comment on air and got really excited like a little kid 😂 I'm 42 😂 and ran up to my girlfriend to tell her. And to answer your question about using the chipping area and putting green when you're not a member, I'd say it's ok to do because there's never a queue of golfers waiting for a turn on the green like there would be at a range bay, there's 1, maybe 2 golfers practicing at any time. So it's NO theft from me. I'm also sat here drinking a couple of beers while watching this and now know my death date is brought forward by me drinking and I can't do anything about it 😂😂, I might as well cancel my gym membership now

To the question towards the end I do work in medicine so do have a decent knowledge on the body and how things can affect organs. However I’m not claiming to know the answer at all it’s just my thoughts. I believe that anyone can prolong their life by living a healthy life both through regular activity and healthy eating… one of the most important been avoiding processed foods. So if say patient X has lived a really un healthy life with little to no activity, poor diet and is now 30, obese and smokes like a chimney. When patient X was born he may have had a life expectancy (from living just a normal moderately healthy life) of say 70. I believe from birth that can be extended through living a healthy life to say 80. Through living the life patient X has lived he might have shortened it to 50 however he is still 20 years from that. Rick is right damage has already been done and this patient would never get back to the 70 and certainly not 80 but I believe through stopping smoking, daily exercise and a healthy diet patient X could live beyond the 50 years even if only to say 55.

There is some clubs, in sweden, that charges 50 skr (some 4 pounds) then you can use the training area as you please on that day.... Not for it or against it.

Personally I don’t see an issue with using the putting/chipping green to practice. If you are hitting range balls or playing holes that you didn’t pay for-then that is where I draw the line.
For reference I am from the states so maybe it is more taboo elsewhere.

I find the selection of cities for the TGL teams very odd. LA and Atlanta make sense and perhaps NYC but Boston and San Francisco are strange. Even ignoring that SF is collapsing due to crime and homelessness I doubt SF and Boston are hotbeds of golf. Same for NYC. Given the weather in NYC and Boston the golf season is rather limited. Rather than those cities there should be a team in Texas and Florida. If they want a big city with a long golf tradition why not a team in Chicago?

Love the pod and love Rick and Guy...but the TGL commentary is filled with bias towards the PGA Tour. All the negatives that have been raised by the guys in the past about LIV, somehow don't apply to TGL? "Fake teams" - "Not real golf" - "Doesn't mean anything" - "All about money" - How Rick can say he's excited, and it is going to bring in a new audience before seeing a single shot, yet be skeptical about LIV before a shot got hit, is a little bit tough to swallow. To me the concept is exactly the same as LIV just with simulators...which makes it entirely comical. The game is being grown by RUclips and TikTok golf...there is literally no need for this. In the same way there was probably no need for LIV. It is all about the money. Nothing more nothing less. get the feeling Rick and the guys don't wanna piss off the Big Cat.

You guys make golf so much more fun. Maybe go ask permission before jumping on the practice green . And saying thank you. Be nicer than you have to.😊

I think announcing the owners right away solves the problem LIV had of knowing where their money came from

@Rickshiels i think that using the pen and putting it back is theft. Would you allow taking a new pro v1 out of the box, use it for 1 hole, and put it back in the box?

    On the Dear Rick part
I am not a member of a course near me. I have paid and played there a lot. I have golf lessons there, my daughter also has lessons there.
I have practiced there many times but according to the rules I should play a practice fee - I never pay that. I can justify it for myself because I pay for the driving range and all the other services I earlier mentioned.
