    Mr. Haney, thank you for your complete honesty. Of course, it's about the money and it will always be about the money. It's obvious the PGAT has not been honest to these guys and Jay has proved to be a snake in the grass. Anyone in their right mind will take more money as opposed to staying on a tour that's not honest and less money. Who cares how prestigious the tournaments are? The truth of the matter is, Tiger would have taken the money but his reputation has been destroyed before so a move to LIV would definitely destroy his legacy. Tiger speaks highly of "legacy" and to be revered like Jack and Arnie, so LIV is out for him. However, once he turns 50 and enters the champion tour, we might see him come to his senses. Here's what to expect, Justin Thomas and Jordan Speigt are going on Rahm"s team, yes, they're leaving too. Justin and Jordan is probably not going to remain top of the leaderboard so why not chase the big money at a younger age.

    Agree 100% also H.E. Yasir is a golf fanatic, he loves the game, I believe he is using his position to make golf huge world wide. LIV golf Adelaide Australia sold out in 15 minutes for 2024 tournament. LIV golf Spain Valderrama will do the same with Rahm. These LIV franchises will be worth huge money in the future and the PIF has the resources to play the long game

    Hi Hank... The END is near for the PGA Tour it’s just a matter of time. Circle of the Sport and what goes around comes around. More will likely follow. Let’s be reminded that GOLF greats like Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino and their other mates who way back then played tournaments under the PGA of America (founded in 1916) in 1960 began the process of breaking away and in 1975 the organization they created achieved full independence from the PGA of America and was named the "PGA Tour." The coming of LIV Golf is no different … In reality PGA tour is a SUNSET tour. Changing of the Guards !!

    • @MSDOGS1976
      @MSDOGS1976 10 месяцев назад

      The big difference is the PGAT was in the black. LIV is in the red big time but the Saudis don't care. All they are interested in is sports washing. So this is nowhere near the same as the 1975 deal.

    • @tomsettles6873
      @tomsettles6873 10 месяцев назад

      Totally disagree. LIV has no profits. If PGA is smart they can outlast LIV and piss all over them. PGA needs to have co-ed tournaments with LPGA, celebrity pro-ams with NFL & NBA players, etc. Stuff that moves the needle and gets viewers. LIV has zero viewers.

    Great video Hank. You shared your perspective in such a down to earth manner that it has helped me to better understand the players that have gone to LIV. I don't like it mind you as I am over 60 and hate the disruption and change to the PGA. I still think the players are so greedy but as you said how do you turn down that money. I guess I just wish there never was a LIV/PIF in the first place. Now we just have to hope that you are right and everything will turn out for the best. Thanks for posting this video!

      I am 63 and have watch golf since I was 7 YO in 1970 and quit watching golf & the majors 3-5 years ago and have played the game for 48 years now, and the PGA and the players have become STALE and unwatchable !!!
      Golf needed an injection of something , and LIV ( which I have watched and like ) may just be the Way to change golf around the WORLD as golf just doesn't revolve around the PGA's Monopoly !!!!!
      The PGA turned it into a nasty war against Greg Norman and the Saudi Prince when they should have went to the round table and hashed out wonderful merger with the money that could have helped BACK the PGA tour, now I hope to see the PGA sink !!!!
      Tradition was lost with Jay Monahan and the PGA tour with the political BS they created and then turn around and stab the PGA players in the back !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
      I say GO LIV, go create something even better than the PGA tour ! Have world wide MAJOR tournaments , instead of 4 start with like one in every big country out there !!!
      I hope the Golf Channel goes under too as they were a HUGE part of this BULLSHIT fiasco of all the politics that went on as Brandel Chamblee, Damon Hack and Rich Learner and all the rest of them are just hateful announcers & just truly SUCK NOW !!!!
      Arnold is rolling in his grave for how NBC turned his channel into a shit show !!!!

    This was so damn well said! Hank I wish more people would say what you just said. The amazing thing is that the PGA Tour leadership is still in place. They have the captain of the Titanic, who has already hit the iceberg with the ship head on, and they still have him (Jay Monahan) in place. The lack of foresight and complete disconnection from the pulse of the game and their own players, has created the situation. New PGA Tour leadership is needed VERY badly! And the Golf Channel PGA Tour cheerleaders and hatchet men and women should all be ashamed of themselves. Well to better days ahead in the world of golf, I think Jon Rahm has just created the conditions for it to happen. And say Scheffler and Spieth go too, then it’s game over for the PGA Tour, and they will have ZERO choice then but to create a deal/partnership with LIV and the PIF.

    LIV love a major winner, especially a green jacket owner….it’s only a matter of time before Scottie Scheffler and Hideki cave in as well. LIV do have an event in Texas next year so Scheffler could be en route soon. Rahm was the best player on the PGAT in 2023 and he just signed for LIV, 1 more nail in the coffin of the PGAT unless they do something drastic quick e.g. let LIV players back on the PGAT non-elevated events and give them OWGR points.

I don’t fault players for taking the big bucks, and I get for the players it’s better and they get more time for the families, great. But I tried watching LIV and it just didn’t do it for me. So how does this work down the road without PIF? They are not profitable so how does it work? Is PIF going to dump money on golf indefinitely?

  • @richp4449
    @richp4449 10 месяцев назад +5

    As Haney says, “take the money.” It ain’t about what THAT money means, where it comes from and why it’s available in the first place. Is it? Just take it. After all, Rahm will now be worth $500 million (or whatever it ends up being with LIV) instead of, say $300 million with the PGA tour (and its sponsors). After all, what’s a couple of hundred million more mean to your lifestyle? Hell, Khashoggi’s life wasn’t worth a plug nickel when he walked into to that embassy. Was it? Yeah, it’s all about the money. When we American businessmen practically wiped the American Buffalo off the face of the earth, it was all about the money too. The Almighty Dollar is a great thing, ain’t it?

      @@robertlund5905 How many back people can afford to play golf (question mark) I’m guessing the exact same amount as front people? As to water, I live in Washington State. We don’t water our golf courses. Are you able to give an educated guess on why that is? You throw out these general statements and try to pass it on as across the board, undeniable facts. I’m a golf instructor, many of my students are black. Some I donate lessons to because I know they can’t afford it. Some of those people are black and some are white. Most people, regardless of race find golf difficult to afford. Just because you may see white people playing golf doesn’t mean all white people can afford golf. In fact, most white people are not rich, most people, regardless of race are not rich. I donate the time I can to those who love the game, who know they have to work hard at it, and who recognize an instructor is only as good as the students work ethic. My black students are fantastic human beings, love the game and work very hard at it away from my instruction...and that’s why I donate my time to them...Oh and to the question of how many black people can afford to play golf? I don’t know where you live but where I’m from the answer to that is...a lot.

    If they are smart, they will get rid of the signature events, replace them with the LIV events, and allow all the players to play both. Is that 14 LIV events, maybe not, perhaps a smaller number and several things to be worked out. I think the PGA should forget merging. But, let any LIV player play any PGA event. That would generate buzz and ratings and increased purses. LIVs format can only handle 54 players. PGA events have 3x as many usually. Let new talent rise up. New stars will arise. LIV can’t accommodate every top player. It’s kinda of like. NASCAR and Indy Car or Indy Car and F1. You can have two golf leagues. So far, I find LIV tournaments boring, with annoying music in the background and even Peter Faherty doesn’t seem very excited when he’s commenting.

    Loved the corrupt golf media statement. I read and listen to various articles and podcasts since the beginning of LIV. Now that the negotiations have begun, all but one harps on about the Yasser/Monahan discussions. Only the The Thinking Man tells it as it is: Monahan is not only not at the table nor even in the building, he is not in the State or the Country(Zurich meeting). LIV is not part of discussions. If you were Yasser would you consider giving away your pet project. I don’t think so. These guys are innovators. Just look at the structure of the Promotions event this week. I am sure they hired mathematicians and statisticians to formulate a system to provide us with the optimal three choices in that time bubble. I suppose the other tours would have chosen a 72 hole straight shootout with the pre-selected players getting the early/late start times, as nauseum. Embrace the new programme, and real eyes (sic) that these guys are truly trying to grow the game by making it exciting for the younger generations. And I’m 72 next month.

    Let's be honest, and golf is supposed to be a gentleman's game full of honesty, as well as integrity, etiquette, and politeness. Jon Rahm went to LIV STRICTLY FOR THE 600 MILLION. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING FOR ALL PRO GOLFERS IS MONEY! Don't believe any of that nonsense about loving the game and titles being the most important. You can always judge people by their actions. Rahm and other golf stars chose the LIV money over anything the PGA Tour had to offer - history, titles, fame, legacy, or loyalty. I'm happy for Rahm. How could anyone in their right mind turn down 600m! Money is the most important thing in this world for 99% of the people. They all have a price, a number, they will accept. More PGA stars will leave for LIV, I'm sure of it. This might be the end of the PGA Tour as we know it. That will be a deserving fate because of their greed that Michelson pointed out, and because they have tried to monopolize pro golf. From the beginning, LIV has had a right to exist and recruit players, who of their on free will join it. Also, all of that talk about Saudi money being blood money because of the Saudi human rights violations and political murders is hypocritical nonsense. Look at the war crimes and murder the USA is supporting with Israel's murderous genocide of Palestinian civilians in Gaza, for one clear example. USA money is blood money too. We live in a world where many corporations and companies make billions of dollars off of war and murder, or off of polluting the planet with smog and chemicals. So, all of the golf tours and professional sports are full of blood money. I don't like LIV's format or their loud music, but with all of that Saudi money involved it is here to stay. I do think we will soon see a merger of the two tours, because that will be the only way the PGA tour survives.

    I think we now see that the assets are the players, and that the PGA has no assets i.e the players. LIV just took JR with no money going to the PGA. I think the PGA business model is stuffed. However the LIV TV model is still a big issue that needs to be solved, with no one watching LIV golf could go in the shitter.

      I have to believe they will figure out the tv thing. Now, the PGA Tour has contracts with all the major networks, who won’t deal with LIV because of that. That can’t last. There’s no way the Saudis are just going to let their investment fester over such a thing.

      That's my point, LIV TV deals will take time, in US Schedule (with conflict of product) also I live in UK and Sky Sports covers golf - nothing mentioned about LIV TV (nothing). So I think it's a 3rd year of LIV golf on RUclips with no revenue.@@johncassani6780

    Phil tried to tell them all and he was made out to be the bad guy. I don't think any of the majors maybe other than maybe the PGA is going to lock players like Jon out. I also don't think the Ryder Cup will either. All the PGA had to do was allow the players to play in a few tournaments and a lot of this could have been avoided. The tour already had a minimum number of tournaments required to maintain membership you were required to play in. LIV is fast approaching a time when they won't have to offers such huge numbers to bring players on board. They could soon be the dominate tour of choice.

    Money talks and always has. With purse at 4 or 5 million to the winner, LIV doesn’t have to pay a nickel to get these players on board, because the players will want the prize money. Even in Ben Hogan’s era, golfers would swim the Atlantic Ocean to play in the tournament offering 10 thousand dollars to the winner. Great move for Jon. Others will have to follow the money now. 💰💰💰

    Thank you for this video, this is interesting and I understand your point but I disagree. Jon Rahm decided and he surely did what was best for him. Nevertheless, money alone is not enough to motivate such champions, given the level of demand. Yes, money is motivating, but the only lasting motivation is pleasure, the joy of practicing such a fascinating sport at world level, the ability to live from your art, something to be proud of. The money, these champions, they already have that and if there's no agreement then LIV players will have plenty to despair about. The best years of their lives, the best events, the best memories... all of this will be behind them and in these conditions it will be hard to stay at the top of their game. If they can't play the Ryder Cup, then that will be a terrible disappointment too. So the LIV is not master of the game despite the money and this is not a simple deal : as you explained, this is also going to involve governments now, because it is a worldwide matter and nobody really knows where this is going. Up to know, big money only brings confusion, doubt, division... it has nothing to do with expanding spirit of golf worldwide... this is just big money. Well, you know, don't forget that quote from Françoise Sagan : ''money is a good servant, but a bad master...''

    Funniest thing the Tour says about LIV is “I don’t like the dummy team games”. Interesting they’d say that when in College what do all those golfers do? Play on “Teams”. LIV only wanted to join in with the Tour, and in doing so would pump in $2 Billion to help a sinking ship. To help spur things along the PIF dropped the anti trust lawsuit which they didn’t have to because the Tour was going bankrupt trying to fight it. Then the Tour turns around and try to get back door help with other investors, which caused Al Rumyann to flex the PIF muscle. The more this goes on the more you realize that Mickelson was 100% right, and he was roasted because of telling the truth. As so as LIV started playing I haven’t watch a single Tour event, not one. LIV events are fun, and fast.

    Finally, some real talk and common sense. Fire Jay already, he betrayed the rank and file and proved his inability to defend against a hostile upstart. Worst yet, the runaway golf league is in full swing of a hostile takeover/merger. Look at the pip money list, what a joke. I wouldn’t be surprised if more players jump ship, especially former major winners. Secure the bag and run away from drama.

    JR has two young kids. The PGA tour is forcing you to play 25 tournaments. That is a lot of travel and time away from the family. The PGA tournament field's are way too big. 😊😊The days are way too long. Too much upside to be on LIV. One dislike of LIV is the longer travel : Australia, Asia, etc.

    PGA tour as such has been failing miserably for quite some time now. Viewership is way down and the game has to evolve. If the Ryder Cup is a more popular venue then team tennis along with some individual play events, is the future. Something has to happen because everyone knows that the Tour was going broke and the Tiger Woods, and the Arnold Palmers are not always going to be there to save it.

    The PIF fund heavyweight boxing we are having the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world in Saudi in February, i don't see anybody going after Tyson Fury or Usyk for taking the Saudi money.
    PiF now own a premier league football club Newcastle. They fund racing in Formula one. So why are people unhappy about LIV.
    Liv isn't going away they have only been going 2 years and have some of the best players in the world on their roster. Good luck to them i say Liv is so much more entertaining than the tierd old PGA tour.

    Count me as one of the avid golf fans who thinks LIV is a game destroyer. I hardly watch anymore. Dividing up the fields is ludicrous. I don't begrudge the guys the money. But ultimately, we the fans decide. Poor babies have wake up early. Ever think that making the conditions as even as possible by splitting tee times is a better test. Ever think that we hackers have to get out early too? The rock music is what you are promoting. You have lost it Haney. I am not mindlessly following wherever the children lead. This whole thing is just Greg Norman's grudge gone amok.
