To get real compression, you need hand relaxation....and some nice whip. Without that, you don't get much at all....because you're trying to do it with your arms only. The club has to do the work.....as I'm sure you know well. When people grip too hard, they're more likely to dig into the ground and fat the ball. Whip gives the speed to compress the ball at impact.

Great tip. Another way I do this is to practice 3/4 knockdowns. A knockdown 6 can go farther than a stock 6.

So your second 7I ball went 154. That’s exactly what mine does. Can I assume I’m compressing?
All depends on your swing speed and loft of your 7 iron, but sounds like you’re striking it well!
