Funny enough, it took me 20 years to learn that the drummer was responsible for starting the vocal track and he pushed play on the wrong vocal track, he is on record as having admitted that it was his fault. If you notice, the band starts to improvise when Ashlee’s vocals start playing. The reason they’re probably smiling at each other and going along with playing a song they already performed earlier is because they themselves are just rolling with it not knowing what just happened. If the vocals for Pieces of Me are starting to play, naturally they’re going to use their live instruments to perform that song instead of a new song that doesn’t match with her vocals that everyone hears.

They had already performed this song during their first set on the show, so no, there was honestly nothing she could have done to salvage the situation, she was caught red handed.

If you’re a pro, listen closely because the band starts with drums but the vocal track belongs to a different song that starts with guitar. So with her mic not even being connected, there’s not a way to save it. Think about it, someone started the wrong vocal track and it doesn’t stop unless someone backstage stops it (as the band plays on) and starts the right track and how’s that gonna go? Like a train-wreck. It’s a rookie mistake. I was in orchestra in middle and high school and when the first measure or pickup was played incorrectly, or when someone’s timing was off, the conductor cut us off and had us restart. No biggie. It was penalized but it would’ve saved her butt more than doing a jig and walking off stage. If you’re in the middle of a song, then you continue playing whether you’ve messed up or not. They had already performed this song during their first set on the show, so no, there was honestly nothing she could have done to salvage the situation, she was caught red handed.
@@forman208and she was not able to sing that night
Or, although it would be a bit embarrassing or awkward, she could’ve asked them to start over. If she caught the song, she could’ve said it was the incorrect song and ask to play the correct one.
As a musician, I know that she could’ve saved her ass if she really knew how to.
@@cellochel1582 they didn't have the mic turned on
If you’re a pro, listen closely because the band starts with drums but the vocal track belongs to a different song that starts with guitar.
But the REAL mistake was made when they decided to bring that shit to a live tv show and the fact that Saturday Night “LIVE” is nothing more than
Saturday Night LIES, i think the whole thing sucks.
Almost two decades later and I still love this. I feel bad for Ashley cause her career was killed on impact, but the legend of lil jig and the smug band lives on
Hahahahahahahaha 2022!!
that one guitarist giving her his back tho...😭😭
I don’t feel bad. She was a mess
No need to feel bad. She chose to not perform
Yoooo 😭😭😭😭
The band members looks happy when she left and just continued playing. Certified kings.
Pretty sad how well dressed they are and THIS happened. If they were dressed like Kurt Cobain it would be less pathetic
The guitarists saw their time to shine, and they took it! I hope they went far
Same here
The real musicians look oddly satisfied with how things turned out.

The ones who were also not really playing their instruments?
@@trip4923 The band was actually playing
Seems like it's always the drummers responsibility to trigger the backing vocals when lip syncing
Even if it was the wrong song.... It's like school play when you're 8/9. Our teacher always told us "When there's a mistake or issue, act like you didn't saw anything and do your thing"... The way Ashlee doesn't follow this basic rule 💀💀
She did the freaky leprechaun dance instead. Not once but TWICE. Worse the second time, if that's possible.
If she had actually started singing i think it would have been fine but maybe her mike was off
I was in orchestra in middle and high school and when the first measure or pickup was played incorrectly, or when someone’s timing was off, the conductor cut us off and had us restart. No biggie. It was penalized but it would’ve saved her butt more than doing a jig and walking off stage. If you’re in the middle of a song, then you continue playing whether you’ve messed up or not. Just find the next entrance and come in if you’re completely lost. If she sung the song again then they’d know what was up, too.
@@cellochel1582 I think that’s what she was trying to do but instead the band continued playing piece of me (which had already been performed earlier in the show) instead of the song that was supposed to happen. I feel sorry for her

what beat to play. Logisticly it doesnt seem possible
@@worsethanhitlerpt.2539? I don’t think so man. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen tons of musicians play with fake singwrs

Y’all acting like she’s the only artist that lip syncs sorry to break it to you EVERY ARTIST LIPSYNCS
Ashlee had some sickness that made her have to rest her voice she she didn’t destroy her vocal cords and it’s harder to lip sync then it looks
@@leuserafim Calling her an artist when she was an entirely curated corporate product is beyond reaching. Prince, a real artist, never did lip syncing and called out the practice for the hacks they are.
@@leuserafim Embarrassing. Only trash pop artists do this. No REAL band does it period. The fact that you think they all do is really just a reflection of your musical taste.

Got to hand it to the band tho 😁
Paton exactly they kept in going
The band were fantastic
They were the definition of professional. They realized they needed to keep the audience entertained and give them something to listen to while the snl crew figured out what to do with the big hole in the show that she made when she ran away like a 5 year old. "Well, she's gone. Let's use her time slot to jam!"
Hell one of them should have just started singing.
I agree. They did their best. It sucks they were dragged into the mess.
I only needed 15 seconds for that to make my day
I love how the rest of the band just keeps playing like "She sucks but we don't!"
Lol!!
Dumbass, the music is pre-recorded. The band isnt playing, look at the fucking drummer and bassist. For fuck sakes.
LMAO!!!
This comment took me out 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's been years, but I remember when all this went down. I've never seen an entertainer flop like a fish out of water quite like Ashlee Simpson did. A sad case of a mediocrity being promoted through nepotism, and then crashing and burning in front of the world. I guess that's what happens when you don't get enough constructive criticism. Anyway, props to the band for keeping their cool!
I agree. The other issue to me was that there were just way too many pop rock acts at this time. It was really hard to keep yp
Oh good grief, she's a 19 year old girl and you think she's going to handle the faux paus like a seasoned 10 or 20 year veteran in the business. Pfft. What an ignoramus.
@@jamieostrowski4447 I see your point, and I don't think anyone would fault her for getting flustered in that situation (I wouldn't, personally). But she completely melted down, did a leprechaun dance, and worse yet, blamed the band afterwards when it wasn't their fault. And this fiasco was not a one-off, she kept messing up and the industry kept defending her, and she was trash at the Orange Bowl halftime. She was totally unprepared to perform at that level. As I hinted above, there's a moral to this story: constructive criticism is important, and if you're handed success without earning it, this is the logical conclusion.

Considering that she wasnt really regarded as an artist, this mistake wasnt so bad. It was her immediate reaction afterwards that made the situation worse.
I saw this glitch live. I was thinking WTF?! What was worse than being caught lip synching, was Ashlee Simpson blaming the mis-hap on her band.

To this day, absolutely hilarious. Many singers do it. She just flat out got caught red handed.

@@ItsAsparageese Then they don't deserve that name...
@@Azuca03 🙄 A show that's acted live for a live studio audience isn't magically not live just because the musical guest section uses backing tracks for their LIVE performance. This is also totally normal practice for lots of concerts. Doesn't make the concert any less a live show. Are you also mad that they have pre-built sets and don't paint them live in the moment while the sketches are being broadcast? I feel like the thing people miss is that nearly every performance in this setting is pre-recorded. In many cases, the audio you hear on the show is recorded earlier in the day. That way, you can edit the live sound, and have the best possible audio for the show.
