I have lived 50 of my 55 years in either Oklahoma and Texas and the best BBQ (Texas) and Chicken fried steaks (Oklahoma) are found in these two States in my opinion!!! I give you three cheers for taking that food challenge! Take Care!!! 🤠
The white gravy (no sausage) is called sawmill gravy, just equal part fat, shortening or lard, oil, and all-purpose flour. Make a roux, making sure to cook all the flour taste out. Slowly add milk, stirring constantly, add black pepper, more than you normally use. That's it. The gravy, like biscuits, just takes practice.
@@thebritstry It's basically just a bechamel, but usually using the leftover grease from whatever you were cooking instead of using butter, and with no compunctions towards putting black pepper in a white sauce. Oh, and no nutmeg.
Ur makin' me miss my momma's farmhouse cookin'. The best part of her fried chicken dinner was the fantastic gravy with the lil crispy bits in it. You know that old lady on Frank's hot sauce commercial who says she puts that sh** on everything? I feel that way about mom's gravy.
Doing it with the sausage is even easier... just 1 lb ground mince) pork breakfast sausage (u can probably order it online to get American style.. like Jimmy Dean's sausage). Brown sausage in large skillet over mid high heat... once cooked through ad 1/4 cup of all purpose flower and coat the mince stirring constantly... pour in whole milk a cup at a time and wait for sauce to thicken from the flour and keep adding milk until desired thickness is reached (you've had it before in US so you'll know). Reduce heat to simmer, add salt to taste and add plenty of black pepper... maybe a couple pinches Cajun seasoning or cayenne if u want some heat. Really all there is to it.. amazingly simple. Make it for your 'mates.. they will freak out.
For my fellow Okies - Brits don't speak English - a sidewalk is a footpath, the trunk of your car is the boot and the hood is the bonnet and a flashlight is a torch. They don't even spell color right - colour - but we love them anyway.

It's funny to hear that only 76 people have completed that challenge. I was one of them in 2017 or 2018. After 30 minutes, i knew i was going to finish it in the hour and slowed down and finished at the 48-minute mark. My buddy, who is much bigger, got to display his quitters box. I still have and wear the shirt proudly that i got for completing it. That gravy is so delicious that it helps the cfs to slide down the throat easily. The cinnamon tolls are heaven. When i did it, i think it was only 25 or 30 if you didn't finish it. If you get the chance, you should try it. Even if you dont finish, you have leftovers. The whole thing is delicious. ❤❤ for Kendalls.
Congratulations on completing the challenge! That's amazing and quite an experience. The chicken fried steak was delicious, so it wasn't upsetting to have to eat the leftovers later! We still dream about those Cinnamon rolls, yum.

Sausage gravy is generally only for breakfast because it has American breakfast sausage in it… often the same breakfast sausage recipe used in our sausage patties. Sawmill gravy is the same gravy minus the sausage which is eaten for breakfast, lunch or supper… depending on the meal. Beard did some bodybuilding so he knows how to train his body up.Molly is a freak of nature.Chicken fried steak is traditionally cube steak, several pieces of inexpensive meat pounded and meshed together in a thin schnitzel before coating and cooking.Gravy may not have meat pieces,it typically does for good biscuits and gravy since that is eaten on bread.
If you're STILL in Oklahoma - go to a Braum's Ice Cream -their burgers, fries, shakes and ice cream are locally made. One of my favorite comfort foods. Even though it doesn’t taste the same, I find German Schnitzel similar in concept. I always get my schnitzel topped with mushroom jager sauce.
That's because the creators of chicken-fried steak were of German descent! It was no coincidence ❤ most German favorites have a counterpart here in the US. As does all food of the early immigrants from everywhere. Food from all over the world was reinvented here . Homesickness begets necessity😂❤

My Mom was from a tiny town about 30 minutes from Noble. She made chicken fried steak about once a month and it was my favorite meal growing up. She usually made a pan of corn bread with hers, but all the rest is the same - mashed potatoes, gravy and green beans. Every friend I ever brought home for dinner (including a friend from London!) fell in love with her chicken fried steak.
I just came across your channel a little bit ago and haven't seen enough to know much about your plans, but if you can, you should try to get into the northwoods of Wisconsin and Minnesota and try some Northern cuisine. It's not as well-known as Southern food, but can be every bit as good. There's a strong Scandinavian and German influence in a lot of it, but with some distinctive American flair. Try Norske Nook in Osseo, Wisconsin for starters; a true hidden gem!
We are a family of 3 (all adults) and I'm not sure if we could eat all that up in one sitting. But it sure looked good. I love chicken fried steak, and green beans with the mashed potatoes go so well with it.

Breakfast gravy is the sausage gravy, or you can try a red eye gravy. Sawmill gravy is basically made the same way, minus the sausage and is served for lunch or dinner. I`m also fond of s good brown gravy over rice.
It takes on average 20 minutes from the moment you start eating for your stomach to tell your brain you are full. People who do challenges like this tend to do minimal talking, minimal chewing, maximum eating as fast as they can before that happens and if they're not finished by then they usually start to slow down, stretch, try to make room and force themselves to finish if they can.
That's a fascinating fact about the time it takes for our brain to catch up with our stomachs! It's amazing what some people can eat. Thanks for watching

You struck gold with finding quality chicken fried steak (aka country fried steak.). It was once commonly served in the USA, namely in diner-style restaurants. Of places serving it today, typically it is a lethargic frozen version. It is usually smaller towns here where you find the gem of it homemade.
I’m half way through this video and it doesn’t look like they made a dent in the food. 😂 I would LOVE to see this couple travel the U.S. attempting ALL the food challenges. In Vegas we have this 20 patty burger held up by skewers. People have completed it and got a pic on the wall and their meal free and a shirt that they completed the challenge. 🤣
One of my favs is to turn that into a version of an open faced sandwich. Halve the biscuits put chicken fried steak on top then the mash and gravy as a topping along with whichever vegetables came with
Wow, Andrew and Nicola eat a full meal at a reasonable price! Hooray! When eating really good food turns into a burdensome chore, you know you're getting a lot of food.
CFS and that white gravy have European origins. Germans and Austrians c. 1844 who came to Texas had been making weiner schnitzel for centuries, one version with a white mushroom and onion gravy. They couldn't get much veal in TX so they pounded thin cuts of beef flat. They fried it just like schnitzel too but the gravy was now based on a roux with drippings, lard, and black pepper. Think of CFS with gravy as Austro-American fusion food because it it!
After all the places you've been to, I wonder which foods you've craved once you get back home. Or even possibly, which have you tried to look up the recipe and make back at home. Always love both of your positivity exploring American food. I can tell you that there are a lot of Americans wondering what each dish taste like because we haven't been there to explore it, myself included.

It's great to hear that you enjoyed Kendall's too! It's always nice to find those hidden gems while traveling. We had an amazing time in Oklahoma city! We have some more videos to upload soon. Thanks for watching
Yes, Beard meets food and Molly are both amazing! Thanks for watching!
Another suggestion.Up in Pennsylvania the Amish run Shady Maple Smorgasbord is a place stuffed with American Heartland cooking.
Hello from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.❤. Glad you were there.
We had a great time in Oklahoma City, we will definitely be back in the future. more videos from Oklahoma to follow soon
On the go? Try Del Rancho! Chicken fried steak sandwich in OKC, Moore, Norman, etc. 👍
Great, great, fun video. Gotta love Oklahoma hospitality....and a great price for deliciousness 😊🇺🇸🐂
Thanks for the love on the video! Oklahoma's hospitality is the real deal, All the staff at Kendall's were amazing highly recommend it.
If you're STILL in Oklahoma - go to a Braum's Ice Cream -their burgers, fries, shakes and ice cream are locally made. Also, Ron's Hamburgers, try the sausageburger, fried okra and Spanish Fries (it's grilled onions & jalapeños with Fries) (btw a portion of fries will be just fine for the both of y'all. Enjoy!
Thanks for the tips! we loved Oklahoma and next time we will definitely check them out. We do have some more videos from Oklahoma to come soon.
A valiant effort! It all looked delicious.
Thank you! it really was so tasty!
Howdy from Oklahoma! Glad y'all got to visit our state. We love chicken fried steak here, it's actually part of the official "Oklahoma state meal" along with biscuits and gravy, pecan pie, and other southern staple foods. Hope y'all got to try some onion burgers while you were here. Enjoyed the video. Liked and subscribed! :)
Thank you so much for the warm welcome, Oklahoma! We had a blast exploring your state's culinary delights. More videos to come the Saturday!
I hope you enjoyed my home state. I live in OKC and it's so nice when I see reactor friends come here. The thing about the Kendall's challenge is the beard and others have called it one of their favorite challenges because of the tase of the chicken fried steak. Much love and keep on keepin on J.
Thanks for watching! we loved Oklahoma and would love to spend more time there in the future! Kendall's was seriously delicious!
I love how there was never a sense of urgency. Good food, nice chat, go home. ❤
Thanks for watching! It's all about enjoying the moment, good food and good company!
Wow usually big meals cost a bundle, but all that for $45 is quite a steal! If I lived near there, I’d go all the time and feed myself on $45 a week.
Thats a great point. It's great value for sure! and you can definitely get a few days of meals out of it!
Adam ( Beard) is awesome!! You guys are as lovely and playful as that “ chap “ !! Not bad for a Jersey boy accent
Lol! Thank you so much for your kind words! We appreciate your support.
Yeah beard is highly entertaining. Was in the hospital this year and I just sat there and watched a ton or his videos.
One of my favorite comfort foods. Even though it doesn’t taste the same, I find German Schnitzel similar in concept. I always get my schnitzel topped with mushroom jager sauce.
Oh that sounds really good! We need to try and find that in the future! Thanks for sharing
That's because the creators of chicken-fried steak were of German descent! It was no coincidence ❤ most German favorites have a counterpart here in the US. As does all food of the early immigrants from everywhere. Food from all over the world was reinvented here . Homesickness begets necessity😂❤
I tapped out as soon as he put the food on the table!😂 That was a lot of food. Good try 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Looks let you are having so much fun, continue to enjoy life. See you on the next video 😊
Thanks for watching! It was definitely a lot of food, but I had fun filming it.
I love your videos 😻❤! Thank you for taking me around the United States to try food I've never had. I'm from California, born and raised. Some of this food is very foreign for me. Thank you ❤
Thank you so much for your kind words! It means a lot to hear that my videos are helping you explore new tastes. Let us know if there is anything you think we should try?
@@thebritstry I will get on this and let you know 😀. It's such fun for me to watch you guys try awesome foods! ❤️ You do a great job, explaining the food. BTW.. you are both very charming 😊
Y’all have always been so kind to respond to our comments every time. For that, thank you so much. Another great video; you looked like you had to be wheeled out you were so full..lol. I just absolutely adore y’all :-).
Your comments really brighten our day. We're grateful for your ongoing support and for taking the time out of your day to watch our videos. Thank you
You guys are amazing. Watching you guys take that challenge makes me proud 🦚🥹🥰
Thank you so much! it was so much fun.
Take the cinnamon rolls for your breakfast or 😂 a midnight snack.
Why limit yourself to just breakfast or midnight snack when you can have cinnamon rolls all day, every day? Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing your memories! it's amazing how food transport you back. Kendall's in Nobile was so good.
Since you're in Oklahoma hopefully you are going to the Hamburger inn in El Reno OK for an oklahoma onion burger.
😉😉 Might Have!!!! 😂 Watch this space... Thanks for watching!
Try the onion burger at Sid’s in El Reno..
Thank you for the recommendation, We might have checked out the onion burger at Sid’s in El Reno!😉
You two are awesome! Love your videos and humor.
Thank you so much for your very kind words! Thanks for watching
Hope you got to try an Oklahoma fried onion burger 🍔 😍
Thanks for the suggestion! We might have tried an Onion Burger (or Three) Watch this space!
What fun! Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
You two are absolutely amazing. Love your videos and your endless energy! Keep putting out your excellent content
Your kind words mean the world to us! Thank you for watching!
We are a family of 3 (all adults) and I'm not sure if we could eat all that up in one sitting. But it sure looked good. I love chicken fried steak, and green beans with the mashed potatoes go so well with it.
Yes, it a great match! and tasted so good. Thanks for watching
You guys for sure read comments, been fallowing since some of your first videos and had so many comments of mine commented back by you two and it made me feel like part of the adventure. The best food challenge used to be watching you force tomatoes into a bite, Oh we have grown so much LOL love the content thanks guys. And just because Andrew can take a bigger bite then a saber tooth tiger I guess people think he can also pack away a food challenge LOL
Thank you so much for being a part of our journey and for your continued support. It means the world to us to have people who time time out of there day to watch us! Your comment has made us both smile from ear to ear! Thank you.
I found you guy's a couple of days ago. Me being the product of Italian NYC Boy meets Scottish/English W.Va country girl. I always thought I had the best of both world. So to me watching the "lights come on" Is just hysterical and cute.
For me a special treat working in the summer hay field gangs, My grandmother would feed us all lunch with Red Beans, Honey Corn bread w/fresh churned Butter and Vidalia Onion (raw, eaten like an Apple). The simplest, easiest, tastiest "FACE JAMMING" food when your hungry that can only be experienced ..in the field. as it were. Good Times !!!
Southern food, in essence, is a MASTERY of contrasting flavor simplicity...and necessity.
These days I can Go, Afford, Eat anything I desire ..BUT THIS is OFF THE METER !!
...Then go home to "Pasta e fagioli and Ciabatta bread"
That was my "Americana"...Ahy O, for get about it ..Y'all !!!
Wow, never thought you'd be just up the road from me haha! Figured Texas was about as close as y'all would get, but y'all came up to my neck of the woods. Used to know a couple waitresses (one of them was a girlfriend of one of my best friends) and almost every night they worked, they'd come back loaded up with cinnamon rolls haha! Didn't know what we had til it was gone! Kendall's is definitely an Okie classic & so happy y'all were able to stop by & try it!
Thank you for sharing your story and for the warm welcome! Kendall's was definitely a delightful stop. We would love to go back again in the future
@@thebritstry I haven't been in a long while, but after watching your vid & realizing I've been taking Kendall's for granted, I'm gonna change that ASAP haha. The flavors, the service, the cost, all worth far more than what winds up being paid. Love all your content, but now especially any & all Oklahoma content haha
I was wondering where yall were now! I can't believe you tried a food challenge! I thought yall did really well tho. Chicken fried steak and white gravy with biscuits is one of my favorites. You guys are brave. 😂
Thank you so much 🤗and Thanks for watching!
Breakfast gravy is the sausage gravy, or you can try a red eye gravy. Sawmill gravy is basically made the same way, minus the sausage and is served for lunch or dinner. I`m also fond of s good brown gravy over rice.
Thanks for sharing! Your detailed description of gravy options is making me hungry!😂
You have to pace yourself for a challenge like this. I would've definitely taken the full hour to try it. Wow, that was a good price! I figured it would be more for all that food. You might have been losers for this challenge but you're still winners in my book :). Well done, you two!!
Thanks a bunch for cheering us on! We had a blast trying all that food.
Ill bet that was fantastic. You did a good job. Probably because it tasted so good you couldn't stop
Absolutely! we ate the leftovers the next day! Thanks for watching
Valiant effort on the challenge!!!! Glad, u got to try it, its delicious!!!!
It was delicious! Thanks for watching
Have y’all heard of or been to Lambert’s Cafe in Sikeston, MO? Popular for hot rolls!
Thanks for bringing up Lambert’s Cafe! Their hot rolls are legendary. We would love to get there in the future.
Is this the place where they throw the rolls at you from across the restaurant? 😂
I live in Oklahoma but I remember visiting that place often as a kid when we’d go to Branson. How funny.
If you’re doing another one of these, I recommend fasting a day or two in advance. It helps a lot of people with these kind of food challenge videos
Thanks for the advice! looks like we have a lot to learn 😂
Hope y'all enjoyed your time here in Oklahoma. Waiting to see if you made it out to El Reno for a fried onion burger!
Thanks for watching! we loved Oklahoma and would love to spend more time there in the future! We May have tried an Onion Burger (or Three) Watch this space😉😉
Good to see you promoting health food.
Thanks for watching.
I love chicken fried steak with all the fixins they have there but there's no way I could eat that much at one sitting.
Lol Neither could we... It was delicious. Thanks for watching!
Beard said he doesn't eat for 24 hours or more before a challenge.
That's where we went wrong! That and eating the salad! 😂Thanks for watching!
Loving the Beard Meets Food style commentary. And welcome to Oklahoma! I hope you enjoyed it here, the people are second to none, truly.
Thank you so much for the warm welcome and kind words! We loved Oklahoma and had a great time meeting the friendly Locals. We have more videos from Oklahoma starting this Saturday! We wish we had more time there but we will be back in the future!
Y’all are making me 1) hungry and 2) happy I live in Oklahoma City . And 😮remember “you can’t have any pudding until you eat your meat.”❤ ❤
The chicken fried steak was so delicious! But we had to find room for that cinnamon roll!
Wooooo!! Now you’re living!
Thank you!
You guys did fantastic!!!!! Both of you get into comparative eating. Even if you wanted to do it as a team.. you guys got this.
Thanks for watching!!
You two are wonderful. You all funny and enjoyable to watch. Like how you are willing to try so many different American foods and in different area of the US.
Your comment has made our day!!! Thank you so much for your kind words! We love exploring different American foods and sharing our experiences with all of you. Thank you for watching
Food must have been great, but best part of your reaction was your growls at 0:41!!! 🤣🤣😍🤣🤣😍😍🤣🤣
grrrrrrrrrrr! 😂 still not sure why we did that! Thanks for watching!
@@thebritstry You did it because it is fun.
What better reason to do anything.
Lol. It’s Molly SKY-LER. I know it’s spelled Schuyler, but it’s pronounced sky-ler. They make fun of it all the time on her and killer’s channel. Dan is always calling her shoe-ler to tease her.
Thanks for the pronunciation advice and Thanks for watching
I would love to see a comment from you guys 😉. I've been watching your tour of the US. The one that spoke to me is in San Francisco, where you tried authentic Mexican food. I've been a fan of this food, since I was a teenager and I am 61 years of age. You find such gems!! Carry on with your precious videos 😍.
Thanks for the Idea! San Francisco would be a dream trip! we will have to try and make it happen
Good for you. I'm hungry just watching you both.
Thank you for watching! We could eat the left overs again it we still had some.
'One More Bite' like Mr. Creosote in Monty Python's 'The Meaning of Life'. Ka-Bloo-wee!🤣🤣🤣🤣
Quitting is better than ending up like Mr. Creosote!!!😜😜😜😜😜😜😜😜
Haha, I totally get what you mean! It's all about knowing your limits and not going overboard.
You guys are so fun to watch… I absolutely think that food looks great… Don’t think I would do the challenge but my goodness I could definitely enjoy that. Enjoy. Can’t wait for the next one Florida girl.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad you enjoy watching the videos. Thanks for watching!
My home State welcome
Thank you for the warm welcome to your home state! We loved Oklahoma and wish we had more time there to discover.
@@thebritstryif you come back you should visit the Tahlequah area. It’s the most beautiful part of the state imo.
I think you two are destined to have far more subscribers. Americans love watching Brits/other countries try our (modern) food.
Thank you so much for your comment! this has made us both smile.
Molly is worth watching. She makes it all look so easy.
She really does make it look easy! Thanks for watching
That looks sooooo good! ❤
Andrew, has anyone ever told you that you bear a striking resemblance to Chef Richard Blais?
I will let him know, thanks for sharing !
Kendall's regular cfs is huge. I can't imagine eating three worth all the sides.
That is true, Kendall's regular Chicken fried steak is definitely a generous portion! This was enormous!
I’m impressed by your attempt and your table manners. I’d have held each piece of steak with my hands. Dipping it in gravy like a nacho with salsa!
Thank you for your kind words and for watching our video! The food was delicious
Love watching you two enjoy the foods Americas offers! You guys would be a blast to hang around with!✌🏻❤️
Thank you for taking the time to leave a wonderful comment.
You struck gold with finding quality chicken fried steak (aka country fried steak.). It was once commonly served in the USA, namely in diner-style restaurants. Of places serving it today, typically it is a lethargic frozen version. It is usually smaller towns here where you find the gem of it homemade.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video and share the love for quality chicken fried steak!
Hopfully you picked up a rose rock while in Noble. Noble is THE ROSE ROCK Capital of the world😉👍👍
I’m half way through this video and it doesn’t look like they made a dent in the food. 😂
I would LOVE to see this couple travel the U.S. attempting ALL the food challenges. In Vegas we have this 20 patty burger held up by skewers. People have completed it and got a pic on the wall and their meal free and a shirt that they completed the challenge. 🤣
Fantastic reaction guys. Love you and your videos. ❤️🏴
Thank you so much 😁 Your comment has made our evening.
You cannot go wrong going to Kendall's for chicken fried steak. Excellent.
You are right! The chicken fried steak was amazing and so was the owner.
One of my favs is to turn that into a version of an open faced sandwich. Halve the biscuits put chicken fried steak on top then the mash and gravy as a topping along with whichever vegetables came with
That sounds delicious! now i'm hungry!
Wow, Andrew and Nicola eat a full meal at a reasonable price! Hooray!
When eating really good food turns into a burdensome chore, you know you're getting a lot of food.
Thanks for watching
My hometown!! Wish I could have seen you while you were here!
It's fascinating to learn about the historical origins of comfort food like Chicken fried steak and its European influences. Thanks for watching
Nice ! Pretty brave though...I'm glad you guys were relaxed and just took it as came...good fun.
Thank you for the kind words! We always aim to have a good time and keep things relaxed.
Cfs and the mash is amazing with the gravy!!!! Love it! Im starving! ❤❤
We agree! Chicken fried steak and mash with gravy hit differently when you're hungry! we could eat some more now. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for your kind words! Exploring American food is a joy, and we are glad you enjoy our positivity! Thanks for watching
