The fact that you don’t notice when the stickers aren’t on show you how good Bandai has gotten with color separation.
For a very expensive HG kit they should be. I mean I could buy an MG with this kit's price.

Aesthetically I've always loved the Xi over the Penelope. Its slimmer, more refined and just pleasing to eye. Plus I love chonky bots. Seriously can't wait to get mine.

Xi is actually very big, but I catch that you mean by the slimmer part is that everything is not 'out of place' like penelope does (xi is more 'compact' and streamlined as a whole unit)
haven't bought penelope until now, only the messer but I might have to buy one just to complete the set
@@andreassetiawan7773 the Penelope is a beast of a kit. It is hollow in places, but I don't fault for the obvious reasons. In some places its a brick but still has good mobility.
The accessories are mostly on the kit itself with only the rifle being separate.
I definitely recommend getting it.
Personally, I really don't like either design. I'd still take the Nu Gundam over both.

I do prefer the katoki design rather than the movie version, it screams Xi Gundam

@@666styxxx666 Those are pretty outdated tho. The 5th gen Gundams have funnel missiles that make i fields useless and apparently the mega particle cannons have a higher output than zz’s high mega.

@@unbournx Its afterward bruv. HF is in UC105 and Unicorn is in UC096. Kshatriya Repaired also used some improvised type of funnel missile which damaged Banshee N if I remember correctly.

It makes you think how they managed to make the Minovsky flight unit (which originally required to have a mobile suit to be as huge as the Xi Gundam just to house it) to be miniaturized so much that they were able to mount it on a small TRANSFORMABLE mobile suit like the Victory Gundam
I guess since technology advances every year it's no suprising it will be a much smaller form of the flight unit with thr same power or even more
Victory is nothing, the Bugs from F91 also use the Minovsky craft, and even the child bugs appear to use it!

Also the technology was lost for 20 years when the f99 was lost, and rediscovered during victory.
The reason they made them smaller is that the huge mecha were costly in material, unwieldy and easy targets. Having zippier mobile suits was more practical in most ways.
Also performance. Under gravity, the smaller mobile suits pretty much wiped the floor with the regular sized ones. Think hulked out Trunks not being able to hit Cell in DBZ, same situation.
@@stevencolon1723 They've been defying physics with some newtype magic and said fuck realism with every BS in unicorn or narative. The only reason why it's getting smaller on F91 is because it was made when the other MS are still quite small and before many people jump into the franchise making their own story and mobile suits
@@scylla4342 We should keep in mind that those OP Newtype gundams are extremely rare, usually unique prototypes. You see it happen in ZZ Gundam, where Judau prefers the outdated Zeta over the ZZ for atmospheric combat, cause the ZZ is too big and heavy. The Xi gundam mitigates it with the minoskvy flight system. Its techbobullshit, but its an explanation. In F91 it was mass produced MS vs mass produced MS for the most part, and the smaller ones outmanuvered them .

Your videos are always of a lot of help to me, got into Gunpla a year ago and been planing to get this kit to make my first full painted panel lined water decaled build for display purposes your videos are full of explanation and are easy to get to for beginers and people who just wana take a look to the plain kit with articulation

Edit: We will probably see P Bandai variants that have a blue colored chest, white colored Beam Rifle and Red Shield with potentially a different head build all together from what’s on the manga/novel line art and covers also including the Xi Gundam in video games with a more traditional Gundam head design.

damn im happy they redesign this big boy especially the mouth vent, since this is the last mobile suit in Project Zeta, it pays homage to Zeta gundam. this version is closer to the novel design.
Imo this design is better than the ver ka redesign

Something that is hilarious about this new version of the Xi Gundam is that the chest section looks similar to a Gundam head, with the yellow fins and red 'forehead' and red 'chin'.
Was never really apparent with older interpretations of the MS, as they tended to colour the chest a more traditional blue.

Except it's not a "new" version, this is how Xi Gundam originally looks, the robot damashii one is the redesign

This version is a combination of the original novel design and the redesign where the more-alien aesthetics of the novel were used but the proportions and hexagons are from the redesign. However, this does take liberties from both interpretations and can stand by itself well on its own.
this xi gundam was intended to be designed like that, the mechanical designer wants it to look like two headed gundam and not using the game design(blue chest).
yet this xi gundan was using the original design from the novel, and this whole gundam is designed by hajine katoki.
so yeah basically this gundan is:
- follow the most original design
- default designed by Hajime Katoki aka Ver. Ka
it looks ugly in the first few times, once u got over it via movie, u will start to love it, people often gets boring with casual skinny and big wings gundam already. thats why new design concept gundams always popular after a period of time.
eg:
unicorn gundam - plain and white, dont even have a gundam face. then people love its tranforming NTD mode.
Gundam Exia - people complained its short and small face. then people love its awesome big GN sword slash.
Gundam Barbatos - people complained its skinny and armorless weird look. then people loves its wild and brutal fighting style.
Waiting for the premiere of Xi Gundam review is like waiting for a premiere of build divers rerise episodes

I’ve seen build fighters and try, but always heard bad things about rerise.
@@justinberry6411 build divers season 1 was pretty meh. Rerise (divers season 2) was much better though. Took a very different dirrectiong and had a generally positive reception. Plus the core gundam is just an awesome concept even if it was just to sell model kits

One year since this video came out, this was the first thing I watched after I got out of the Mental Hospital I was staying at. It’s surprising that one year has passed, but it has. I love your videos Mecha and hope that you will continue to upload until you’re arm’s get all wrinkly like a Grandma(i’m joking). Anyways Mecha I hope that Spooky is able to get better, I can’t imagine losing your best friend.
Heads up for people. The Xi vs Penelope set included specially designed clear flight bases for both models. It’s great for this kit but a must have for the Penelope. Makes that chicken a lot less shaky.

If you have the money, i recommend getting the combination set with the penelope. The penelope is sort of hard to find so getting the combo set first not only prevents duplicate, but also gives you water decals

Interesting point - the sizes of the Mobile Suits in late UC are also allegedly due to Gunpla; due to the economic shortfall in the 90s known as the Lost Decade, many corners in many different industries were cut; in Gundam specifically, the old model kits from F91 and Victory were supposedly marketed as _1/100_ scale instead of 1/144 without changing the size - an easy way to make it look like you were getting more Mobile Suit when in reality you were just getting the same amount.
This is my first Gunpla kit. I just built it and i absolutely love it!
I got mine late but it's totally worth the wait. I haven't build some of the latest HG so as a RG lover, this kit feels almost the same. The only thing bothering me are the hollow insides of the open hands, but that's also a quick fix.

Only other mechs that changed in size greatly was Armored Core. Especially from 4 to 4 Answer. Didn't realize how big the mechs got until I got to the silent avalanche level again.
This thing is a beast of a Gundam, saw this in person and was so shocked how large it was compared to other uc gunpla.
my very first Gunpla kit was a SD Xi that was on sale and I only added it to an order of other stuff to hit the free shipping price mark lol. I'm glad such an obscure Gundam finally got a legit HG release!

I just got mine in the mail and the box is bigger than most MG boxes. I'm very excited to say the least.
I've had this pre ordered since January im glad this should be in the usa in a couple of weeks. And I had to get this because my brother bought me the penelope as my first ever gunpla so im excited to get this

Bandai said they wont make mg or rg versions of extremely large kits like the kshatriya due to the large molds. This is why the kshatriya hasn't had an mg or rg in 10 years.

Same...My brother and I have been getting those small no-grade kits from Wing and G-Gundam we used to build...then destroy by playing with em lol.
the reason why you need to remove the fins at the feet is not because it might clash with some parts but because you need to change their angle

having just built the xi, I 100% agree that it has a very simple build other than the head and maybe the chest.
I like this more than penelope in design and color separation. One thing that trigger me from most later UC model is that the body design is so badass and great but in the weapon side, there're typical beam rifle and beam saber. I mean look at sazabi's light saber. We need that kind of badass weapon with badass body.
I plan to get 2 of the Xi Gundam so I can use one to finally make my custom gunpla
I was curious what model Noa was piloting and it led me here. Gundam Hathaway movie was filmed using some actual streets here in my city of Davao. The Agdao public market where Noa was eating a burger and the malagos park, the beach where he was walking. I always imagine them everytime I pass by these streets here. The gigidi gigidi go made me sub 😂

Dose the sockets on the arms and legs work for other hg gundoms? I would love to have a gundom live Lance with those chunky arms and legs. In breaker 5 I often use 1/100 scale arms and legs on my 1/114 torso and head.

At first it was kind of tough to swallow this 'new' plain white design (although this is the original novel design) as I am so used to see the Katoki one with the blue chest and a Nu Gundam-ish faceplate with the three vent slits.
But after watching the review and exploring the design more it slowly grew on me.
I am a fan of bulky MSes so this would be a definite pick!
cannot wait to build this when it hits the store!
I really hope that katoki design doesn't go unused and gets turned into a mg ver ka, which would be absolutely insane (pretty much a pg in everything but name).
I love the Xi Gundam. I hope we get a metal build of it.
The fact that the hand attaches via a peg and not a ball joint would really help for longevity o_o

I know Mecha is NOT a fan of screws but I would love to see him build the beast that is the HGUC Psycho Gundam, just so it can make appearances in these size comparisons.
I love how the Xi Gundam is by far one of most radical 'Gundam' designs out there as it barely resembles one; with its ultra realistic aesthetic and detail, appearing more machine like. I also love how the paint scheme is almost all white instead of that toyetic classic combo the RX-78-2 has. This is what a Gundam is supposed to look like; a menacing war machine, not a silly looking toy. This is truly the embodiment of 'The White Devil'.
The designs of Penelope and Xi are horrifying

I prefer the Penelope. Similar to the Thunderbolt FA Gundam, I am a sucker for extension parts. If something goes wrong, popping it off to keep going was always something I enjoyed.
My first gundam
This is one of those peak 90s designs that screams "too much" and the robot just keeps colliding with itself with all the fins sticking out everywhere.
The first time i saw it, I immediately goes "what the hell is going on here?!"
no kidding, they really went deep with the concept
I didn't like Hathaway (best animation in Gundam though,) but seriously... this is a truly horrible suit design.

I personally look at this thin thinking how could it possibly function in atmosphere. Then I remember that it basically has antigravity and it never is supposed to touch the ground. The closest we might get in thatobile suite rocket scaring we see in 0080.
I wouldn't be surprise if this or the Penelope become the next MG extreme I could honestly see it.
