You make a really good observation, tournament participants want you to release them because they benefit from it, as long as money and prizes are involved, they will tell you and hate you for keeping them to feed your family. I could care less what sport fisherman do, just don't get in my business. I'll eat whatever I catch as long as I'm not breaking any laws and regulations
Right. It's ultimately up to the person.
I'm definitely going to have to agree with you on this. Before I watch this I tended to be more of a catch-and-release but not totally against keeping them cuz I myself have kept Bass in the past. I am guilty of giving people Flack for keeping them recently. So I have to thank you for kind of bringing me back to reality. I know it's like going out with your dad as a kid catching a few fish that's especially in taking it home in your dad teaching you how to properly process it and cook it. I think that that kind of skill as a very valuable to.
Thanks for your input. I think it all depends on the body of water you fish.
Im not a huge fisherman I’ve always wondered why everyone never keeps bass good video
Thank you. It's a strange idea that people keep telling others...
They don't want to eat them, well that's more for us bass chefs.
lol bass chef huh?
I have caught smaller Crappie in a lake that Didn't have a Length Limit.
I did it for 2 Years.
After then the Size of the Crappie Increased in Length & Girth.
Eating Fish is Great. Much Better than McDonald's, because it's Fresh & Wild.
Yes! I couldn't agree more. Your example is the same concept as with bass. Take out the smaller ones to increase the size and quality.
You're 100% right. Unless you're on a body of water where the bass fishery is one of the main revenue generators for the area, I see no issue with keeping bass within the local regulations.
In our area, everyone is focused on walleye and bass are treated almost like a nuisance. My whole life, I was told they were garbage (mostly because smallmouth tend to have worms in the warmer months. A few years ago, we acquired land with access to the river and I decided to try a few early season smallies. They were terrific. We catch a lot of 10-14 inch bass and I make a point of keeping the early and late season ones. They are very similar to walleye except for a slightly firmer texture (less flakey).
Well said.
They're a white meat fish that swim in the same waters of most other fish - not a huge deal to keep a few when there is a healthy population of fish to begin with.
Yes. Bass go good with oregano, lime juice a bit a complete seasoning and garlic. Sautéed slowly over a bit of butter or vegetable oil. You can season and refrigerate the bass a few hrs before cooking it.
You can also grill it.
Agreed.
I've noticed that in the Facebook groups. Bass are like sacred fish to some guys.
Same. I believe that comes from tournament fishing.
They are scared your gonna eat the fish they win a competition on
Second video of you that I have watched. Thank you for keeping it clean. Not one foul word. Awesome! Please keep up this excellent content. Can’t even watch tv now days. This is awesome. Thanks for educating us.
Thank you for the kind words.
When starting this channel, demonstrating integrity was my main goal.
If I wouldn't say it in front of my wife, parents or pastor, then I won't say it here either.
I'm blessed to be able to help others.
Im a catch and release fisherman and im about to start doing catch and cooks on tournament days!
I had a bass eat my bait deep and die yesterday. I had him aside as i was gonna take him home to eat(would have been my first time). A boy asked if i was gonna keep him and i explained he died as i unhooked so i was planning on taking him home but wasnt necessarily fishing to take home. He took the 3/4 lbs fish home to eat with his dad. Hope they enjoyed it!
People are way too defensive about bass bc it’s a sport fish. You pull one bass out of the water and suddenly you’re a poacher lol. Me personally I don’t eat them but if I see someone struggling for dinner I’ll offer it up. Bass are plentiful.
Exactly. 100% agree
I keep everything I fish, freshwater or salt. Unless it’s illegal to keep or genuinely not eatable. I could care less what others think or say. I’m there to enjoy my day, I’m not there to make the haters happy.
When I was a kid, about 45 years ago, we would always eat the bass. But times are much different. Fishing pressure is much greater. The number if fish killed from being caught is greater. It's estimated to be 16%. I thinking this your premise should be qualified based on the fishing pressure and related size of lake.
Exactly. Depends completely on the situation.
Older people I've spoken with about this (50-80 year olds) have told me that more fish were kept years ago in my area.
Interesting that there's more pressure today.
What I feel is wrong is to only fish with idea of doing catch and release. Why put the fish through all that stress just for sport?
That is an EXCELLENT point. I’ve often wondered that. Especially tournament fishing when people take fish from their regular living area, put them in a live well, measure them at the landing and then let them go right near the landing again.
Absolutely! I caught and ate bass back in the 60s and 70s. Bass tastes great. The issue is that catch -and-release has become a fucking religion! I always keep one or two fish from every fishing trip AND I EAT THEM!
Totally agree!
Need to share this vid with my CNR friends who give me mean mugs everytime I wanna keep a bass. Bass for dinner = happy wife! 😂
💯 agree. I get so erked seeing people bag on people that post a kept bass.
Yep - people ought to worry about themselves.
I didn’t spend hours of my time doing research and spend my money on gear and licenses to come home empty handed! With inflation on the rise and everything getting more expensive I take hunting and fishing more seriously than some might.
I really came and watched this video and was thinking of being mean but I stayed open minded and when u think about it. It makes a lot of since
Thanks for hearing me out.
It all depends on the body of water and the situation.
@@RelentlessSportsman no problem man great videos dude keep up the good work
I know when I hunt deer I shoot to just give a flesh wound, because everyone knows you shouldn't harvest deer. That is just as silly as saying you shouldn't keep a bass. Ethical harvesting is a good thing.
what do you mean by harvest and everyone knows you shouldnt harvest deer?
@starbug1898 harvest: to gather, hunt, or kill. Re: "... everyone knows you shouldn't harvest deer" is sarcastic humor to make a point.
I agree now, especially with local lakes being overpopulated with smaller bass. The only problem is, they taste kinda bland or even grassy in the summer.
What state do you live in?
@@RelentlessSportsman Virginia
@@mattmarkowicz Okay! I haven't experienced the blandness or grassy tasty up here. Could be the water type/temps as well.
Soak it in ice water with some salt for an hour or linger will take the weedy taste out
I generally keep every legal bass that I catch, because they eat the other fish I like to catch
I believe that if someone has a fishing license and they catch a bass that is legal size and only take the limit that is allowed then they have every right to harvest that fish. This is coming from a strictly catch and release guy.
Exactly. People need to mind their own business
No Your not crazy, Bass taste really good !!!
Yes. If I had the choice, I prefer perch or walleye, but yes, bass do taste good when cooked well.
I have no problem with people keeping some fish to eat wish i hand a farm pond would keep more to stock it
Yep! Nothing wrong with that at all.
Been finding grubs on my bass in our farm pond. Would they stunt their growth? Should I treat the pond?
I have no clue. That's completely out of my depth of knowledge.
Well spoken. Just found your channel.
I have always told people that.
Well said 👏
Thank you!!
Ive cooked some 3# and 4# bass and i was shocked how tasteless they were. Absolutely zero flavor. I couldnt taste the fish at all. It was surprising.
Well said brotha 👏👏👏👏
I don't know why eating bass is controversial. You never have this argument about walleye, which is arguably a better sport fish.
bass are the best fish to eat of course of you know how cook
Swai is the worst tasting fish i ever had. Trout is vrry tasty
You have to be really ignorant to think keeping bass is bad.
Many people believe it is bad. It's the sad truth.
Let fix People brains Fish are Fish there are designed to eat them... Not to play sports. Drinking, smoking, gambling all the bad sht is out there is wrong the bad time will come if you dont know get some fish.... Eat all the Bass you can they taste good 😅😅😅😅😅😂😂😂
Bass taste like Red Snapper
What do you mean?
@@RelentlessSportsman flavor and texture
I’m a tournament fisherman and I just can’t bring myself to do it
You probably don't fish tournaments on the bodies of water I mainly reference in this video.
Small backwoods lakes with a stunted population are very different.
@@RelentlessSportsman That’s a fair point
The Bible says in levitical health laws we should eat fish with fins and scales.... that includes bass but not catfish!
I'm not keeping, I'm poor ,not that poor.
Good thing I got my own personal lake in my backyard 🫣 because I love any seafood that’s about all I eat
