  • In this episode we travel north to Cresswell in Northumberland. Conditions for summer rock fishing are far from favourable with a south easterly swell and lots of colour in the water. We plugged away and managed to get three fish for the camera with Gary taking a nice plump summer codling to make the trip worthwhile.

    Nice take on that dongal rig there, without using any tackel on the end and using the loop to clip it down 👍🏻

    i love all this dongle stuff, a pennel without the bottom hook, many life times ago i was not hooking so many when using big bait, i put a hook at the top of the bait and hooked every fish after that, 5 on the hook with no bait and two on the hook with bait, ive never fished a single rig without that top hook since, mind you the top hook is bigger

    Here's a tip for all the NE anglers fishing heavy ground, take a tip from the carp anglers who fish heavy weed, use a rig that drops the weight on your return if it snags, plenty vids on here showing how to do it. Now had your horses before you scream, make your own weights out of cut bicycle inner tubes filled with sand and/or gravel or anything else similar (cement in thin pipe). Make up 20 or more at home before you go fishing and accept you'll lose one most casts. Obviously you can't cast quite as far, but especially at night you don't get snagged after hooking a fish and losing it in rough ground, try it..

      Very interesting idea David and certainly a lot more economical than lead sinkers that’s for sure! Thanks for the comment👍

    • @davidoldboy5425
      @davidoldboy5425 2 года назад +1

      @@fullcircleangling It works believe me but the best bit is you almost never lose a fish as they surface naturally without the weight. By the way you have the right bait for the winter, crab is a killer.

      Hi Chris thanks very much mate. If you’re using mono I’d do for somewhere between 30-40lb, either straight through or with a shockleader.
      If you’re on braid and fixed spool then anything from 50lb upwards. Again you can either use a braid shockleader or for ease a lot of lads just fish 70-100lb straight through. Hope that helps 🙋‍♂️👍

      @fullcircleangling no that's a great help. Thank you very much for the information mate. 👍

    • @fullcircleangling
      @fullcircleangling  11 месяцев назад +1

      @@chris881989 no problem at all Chris. Good luck, let me know how you get on.
      I’ll still chop and change between mono and braid. Sometimes when it’s too rough if there’s too much pull I’ll ditch my fixed spool and put a multiplier with mono on. The extra stretch enables you to fish stronger tidal areas at times and can give you an advantage.
      All the best 🙋‍♂️

      @@fullcircleangling I will keep you informed mate cheers.
      I do have some 30lb mono that I got with the reel but was not to confident if it was strong enough as the last thing I want to do is keep snapping the line and losing everything so was thinking about using the stronger stuff and sticking some braid on.
      All the best 👍

      Hi Steven. It’s a Shimano Aero Technium MgS 14000XSC 👍
      Thanks for watching 🙏

  • @davidoldboy5425
    @davidoldboy5425 2 года назад

    Don't see your logic mate, a multiplier will outcast a fixed spool with heavy lines, it is also far more suitable for heavy ground fishing and the strains involved.

    • @fullcircleangling
      @fullcircleangling  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching and the comment David.
      Don’t disagree, if they’ve both got the same diameter heavy mono, multiplier wins all day.
      But, the line on my fixed spool is considerably lower diameter, but stronger, braid - not heavy mono. So coupled with the line lay of the aero Technium, I can comfortably outcast my heavy duty multiplier reels. Not saying that’s the case for everyone, but it certainly is for me and lots of others up here.
      Strain wise again I don’t disagree, a multiplier is better. But personally speaking, the trade off between distance and ease of fishing particularly at night, I tend to opt for the fixed spool.
      All personal preference of course, each to their own for what works best for them.
      Thanks again for watching, tight lines 👍
