      Something of interest for you, not commonly known by Americans!..Australia took the F86 Sabres and put the Rolls Royce Avon engine into them! Much lighter, and much more thrust!..Result?..The only Sabre capable of supersonic flight!..It was designated the C.A.C. Sabre! It also had greater range and other modifications that made it more manouvarable at speed..Check it out! A fantastic machine!

    Jan. 26, 2019---Thanks for the video. I remember reading how an A was being rebuilt to flying status, but this is the first time I've actually seen it in action. And didn't know there was an E now flying. Hopefully somene(s) will get a D and H flying. Be awesome to see all 4 in the air. For those interested, there's a bunch of MiG-15's, 17's & 21's (single & double seaters) fighters at Stead airport, Nevada. The company bought a bunch of 'em years ago and has refurbished them and gotten flight certificate approval on some by the FAA. One day was checking out the airport where I saw several guys working on a 2 seater MiG-21 for future FAA approval. Both seats were out and on the floor, along with the gun site. Got the okay to take photos and took about 300 or so detail shots of that plane which still had all its maintenance stenciling inside the gear wells, etc. Checking out another hanger, found about a dozen MiG-21's inside with their wings removed neatly stacked near the bodies of the planes. In another hanger, there was a single seater SAA B Draken which I was told was owned by some dentist.

    Looks like the MiG is quite a handful to land in a crosswind...

    • @ThePaulv12
      @ThePaulv12 5 лет назад

      Yeah, did you notice the dual wing fences on it? They're to stop the air spilling sideways off their not insubstantial wing sweep at low speed, so in cross wind i can imagine one might have to land 10-15 knots faster. Nerve wracking in a [cold]warbird because you just know if you bend it there mightn't be too many flying examples left.

    The flightline was dominated by the TBMs for sure; however, having these "local" Jet Warbirds was a huge highlight to the day (as well as that big A-26 Silver Dragon). The weather during the arrivals made us wonder how much actual flying was going to happen (crosswind @ 5:56), but by afternoon the weather couldn't have been much better in the Illinois Valley and the demonstrations by all aircrews were fantastic. Thank you AirShowStuff for capturing these spectacular examples of Jet Warbirds.

      @Cutting Ede
      #1 The Spitfire isn't a jet
      #2 The Spitfire is a nice looking plane but imo its design is overrated. Doesn't look aggressive enough for my taste.

    • @archie_-zv8xc
      @archie_-zv8xc 6 лет назад +1

      its design really wasnt overated, it was cutting edge for its time and the wing design was the most efficient by far out of any other aircraft and still is one of the most efficient designs, thankfully its a beautiful design aswell.

    • @solidhqx
      @solidhqx 6 лет назад

      And you never wondered why no other prop plane after the Spitfire used the same elliptic shaped design for its wings? I mean: if it really was the most efficient design for wings, you would expect it to be copied right? But instead they all followed the more modern wing shape of the ME-109, FW-190 and the P-51 which you still see today on prop planes like the Embraer Tucano . In fact the RAF started removing the wing tips themselves and replaced them with squared-off wing tip fairing later in the war in en effort to catch up.
      Just see what happened when they placed the same engine in a plane with a truly cutting edge aerodynamic design the P-51.
      The Spitfire achieved is near mythical status during the Battle of Britain when it was massively hyped in order to boost morale but in reality it was the Hurricane that won the battle. The Spitfire didn't play a big role for the remainder of the war either due to it's lack of range.
      So yeah, I believe it's capabilities and role are overrated, but whether you think its beautiful or not is a matter of personal taste.

    hahaha, is amazing, 60 years ago these aircrafts kill each other in the skies, and was the top of the line of the war planes of the east and west, now are just a fucking toy in the hands of entusiastic people of aviation history and good pilots, that is great coz in 50 years more many people will have Su-35 and Mig 30 to play with it flying in some Airshow in any place, is incredible how the technology grow and grow up

    • @EnhancedCognition

      Oh yeah, a whole lot of variants... Not to mention all of the foreign licensed variations on top of it all.. The Italian G.91 for example is simply an F-86 that has been modified and lightened to make it a better dog fighter.. The (CL-13B "Mk 6" Sabre) is considered to be the king of the Sabre variants however.

    First static Model Jet I ever built . Pissed my best buddy off cause then he had to build , wanna guise ?
    Nope he built the Fishbed instead . Cause it was a bigger "Scale" get it ? Any way I chased him around with my Spad for awhile but it was no match . Finally I figured I had his Mig beat . I mean it said MIG KILLER . Right on the box . That's right The USN F-4j Phantom . Except the Guy's at Revelle forgot to put the dam Guns in my kit . Well I tried to take them out of the old shot up Saber , Except there were no gun ports in the Phantom wings . And well The missile's were glued on . Those were the times .
