Nice truck dude, I'm glad you're having good luck I got a 22 TRD 4x4 off road with a 6-speed manual I put the Carhartt seat covers in F&R & I have the all-weather floor mats I'm going to switch the Toyota ones out for Huskies... Just to keep the truck protected already changed the oil a couple times and the transmission fluid out it had metal floating around in it 😡🤔 only 2,500 miles 1st 🛢️ change at 545 mi, 2500 2nd 🛢️ & that's when I did the transmission fluid the 2nd 🛢️ change did not need it but the tranny definitely did 🤷
Great video bud nice truck..i have the same year and they are great trucks and i have the same experience with my truck about the surge when i put it in wear from time to time i guess im not the only one with that ,it does that sometime especially when the truck is cold and i keep wondering what causes it
Your channel is very informative. I sm picking up my magnetic gray metallic colored 2023 Tacoma TRD Off Road 4x4 truck this upcoming Saturday from Toyota of jihndon city, tn. Looking Girard to taking the truck up on Buffalo mountain to test out the crawl control and the rear electronic locking differential.
In September will be my 1 year with my Tacoma TRD Off Road. Will probably be around 6,000 miles. I haven't had any issues with it either. It's been a great daily driver.
I think I mentioned Tacoma Review video on my channel that it was around $43k final price before local taxes and registration which is different for everyone. The cab is roomy for a midsized truck but not the largest in the market. It is the number 1 midsized truck for a reason.
Thanks to EPA, the transmission now engages at a very low RPM (900ish) to be more fuel efficient. My old 2007 Tacoma do not surge but my 21' grabs hard whenever the a/c kicks on. There is absolutely no difference in fuel saving between the two model years. 2.7l in both trucks.
Thank you for the video. I have a 30 day wait to pick up my 2022 tacoma sr5 3.5 double cab. Super excited. Glad to hear that you haven’t had any issues. With the Reviews on the 2022.
Got mine 4 days ago had a Tundra for 12 years but this Tacoma blows it away love it TRO 4x4 2022 off road just does have the LED lights but got a cargo cover which gets you 10percent better mileage by cutting wind in tail.
Which brand cargo cover did you buy? I have a trek mountain bike so I want to buy a good durable bed cover but do not want a big heavy composition tonneau cover.
Thank you for sharing, I had a 2021 Tacoma TRD sport 4X4 and I was getting 18 to 20 mpg, and I always put Microlon compound 90, Not the engine treatment, you get more bang for your bucks with the c 90, and you only treat your engine once, so after running it for a few miles my mpg jumped to 26 to 27 mpg, I've been using microlon since the early 90's, and when you put the microlon in make sure your engine is warmed up and after you put it in you want to run your truck for 100 miles at Highway speed, to get it burned into the moving parts, and you will be amazed your engine is quieter, and a lot better mileage.
Awesome stuff! Bought a 2022 TRD OR in blue crush metallic off of allocation. Trading my 17sr5 in towards the new taco. Love these videos! Just waiting for new taco to be delivered.
@@TorqWorks The 4 cyl is actually more bullet proof as far as repairs and longevity and more time tested. fyi I do own a 2021 6 cyl though only because I may tow.....
I have the exact same truck 2022 TRD Off Road in Super White. Just under 2k miles. So far so good. I added Go Rhino side boards and the blackout emblems. I’m adding a bed cover tomorrow. Love my truck. I’m not getting the gas mileage you are for some reason. That’s my o e complaint. So far the only one. Still love the truck.
I have a 2021 SR5 2WD. What are you thoughts on the transmission. I sometimes get a "surge" or a "shutter" while driving around 45mph, & also 70ish mph. It feels like its coming from the transmission, not the engine (rpm's don't fluctuate). Do you have this issue also, & have you had any TSB updates for the trans. when you took in for service? Thanks, great review.
Hey bud thanks for watching and great question. No I never had that issue, but know a few that did. You should have the TSB done at a Toyota Dealer, it is free of charge normally. It should adjust the issue which I am told is just Shift point mapping in a way. Readjusts all the ECU info that causes that random "surge"
Thanks for the video. I’m buying the same truck in same color as yours even. It’s scheduled to arrive in two weeks so I’m stoked. Glad to hear you still enjoy the truck after 15k miles.
@@Joey-yq5se Hey man. Well Since I got in with a trade in that was more than the Tacoma I had no taxes owed. So other than tagging it and the cost of the truck I think it was $41,838 around that.
Great job! By August I planned on downsizing from the Silverado. Am leasing and want to purchase and I don’t trust Chevy but may have to buy out lease due to greed. Maybe one day but I will never pay over msrp and I hope no one does or we’re hurting the masses!!!
Im in the same boat here ! I own a silverado 19 with the 5.3 v8 . I’m really no trusting this thing . Never have a problem with it but with 28000 miles I’m just waiting for those lifters problems . I decided to trade it for a taco pretty soon
I think you have thought this out well. Congratulations on the choice to go to the Taco. I can't bring myself to get on of the many GM autos that I like because of the known issues they have which you mentioned.
@@rickgordon1394 If I am forced to buy it out then the first thing I do is put on a quality catch can with filter system. Glad I take care of my vehicles even when I lease so at least i know I have a chance; TY
It looks like you got a great build. Does anyone know why the predicted reliability for the 2022s is only 3/5? I haven't seen any major issues from these videos or elsewhere yet.
@@TorqWorks Thanks for the reply. I'm planning to order one in a couple of weeks and always tend to be cautious when buying a new vehicle. My Chevy is 11 years old and going strong, but some parts are either hard to find or discontinued - thus the motivation.
Mine is on order! The sales rep told me to be prepared to wait 6 months 🥴. He was saying that he has seen some orders come in 3 or 4 months, but 6 has been more or less the worst case scenario. I am so frickin excited.
The surge is related to the change from direct injection to to port injection or the reverse. Since it has both the idle will increase during transition.
It is too early on this Tacoma, but I have had Super White on many of my Toyotas since 2008 and I have had 0 issues. Now Im a little OCD. I use the 2 bucket hand method to wash. I never dry with a towel, I use premium car wash products so on. NEVER USE AN AUTO wash. I use quick detailers and good synthetic non abrasive waxes.
Great review! I have a 2020 off road, and understand what your complaints are. All related to the electric assisted braking system. The first few stops are touchy due to charging the battery for the brakes. The surging is the same, the engine idles up to regenerate voltage for brake assist. I have a manual trans, so no surging, but definite rpm fluctuations at stop lights.
Thank you so much Spike. Yes it is normal and definitely related to the torque conversion and the RPM of the engine at idle. More than likely due to timing since it has Toyotas VVT-i were it is always changing where it sees fit.
Thanks for sharing your Taco dream :) Took delivery of my 2020 TRD Off Road in July of 2020. Apart from a 4450 mile cross-country trip last year, most of my driving is local and WI winters definitely take their toll on fuel economy. Once the temp drops into the teens I am lucky if I get 16 MPG around town. 11,300 miles on the stock Goodyears have not negatively impacted winter traction. I am eyeing the Toyo AT3s for an upgrade later this year. My Taco still looks great but for some wear starting to show on the driver's seat (leather). Agreed I have experienced the "surge" a few times. The LED headlights are a must and saved me while navigating an insane nighttime downpour while driving through rural Kansas last April.

AS far as the brakes grabbing, I have had 3 Toyota small trucks since 1984, and none had that issue. I would guess the shoes or pads are most likely the culprit here
