With the cams 'pinned' at TDC/O|T, can you rotate the crankshaft through the full rotations necessary to feed a new timing chain through without hitting the valves?
Thank God it uses timing chain instead of the rubber timing belt. Imagine the pain of removing those screw and cable every 50k km just to replace a worn belt.

Great video, I took the phasers off my M274 engine ( same setup) but my question I could not find any pin to align the cam shaft with the VVT sprocket . So basically sprocket ( phraser) not locked I to the camshaft. Any advise? Thanks
@@benz240d I know. I wonder what the labor times are like between the Mercedes and the Infiniti (Japanese makes typically don’t pay as well as German makes).
@@ronjohnson8119 believe it or not, I could not locate a head gasket set from infinity, so I ended up ordering it from mercedes. Labor way higher then Japanese. Same setup and everything, But pays differently.
yes, and NEXT time please NO slow motion, show us the bolts, and how to get the covers, etc off, they don't FLY OFF by themselves as you show here!!!, and PLEASE either ENGLISH, OR german NOT both over-speaking each other, rather annoying to say the least!!
this engine looks new and wants a chain and cams . not as good as the old mercs . please bring back the douplex chains they are more reliable . bmw and mercs are going backwards with the design of their engines . did i miss something i did not see the chain being replaced ?. i have realised that this engine did not want cams or chain and just only to show you how it is done ,
A bit weird as he don't change the timing chain? used to do the V8's with a split link timing chain and just turn the engine manually and change tensioner job done. Why take the camshafts out? Also the workshop looks a bit cramped not like a typical garage workshop :-) this is not reality
Better to record one in English and a separate video in another language- Make to videos. Use the same video recording, just add voiceover because the mechanic does not talk... so come on, do this right if u really want to help and educate people

Hi, did you find out how to put the sprocket back? It has some marks in the back, which one is the right one?
The cams are aligned with the special tool and the actuators are simply held by friction. This is one of the worst engines ever built.
