    Besides the adjuster being on the marks and crank at 0 do the chains have too be at a certain position or you can install it however.

    • @Erickj99
      @Erickj99 6 дней назад

      So to access the tensioner you’ll need to remove the alternator & on the timing cover (behind where the alt is), you’ll see a black one time use plug that you’ll need to poke a hole through and wedge out. Once you remove that, you can remove the 19mm bolt tensioner. Screw a new one in, and once your cams & crank are lined up, with the cams locked in place with the tool, turn the crank counterclockwise to release the tensioner.

    Can tensioner be removed in the beginning of process and left to last step or does it not matter? Also whilst having the sprockets off and chain de-linked, is there any possibility of chain falling off bottom sprocket?

      I'm doing this repair myself.
      1. park the car where you feel comfortable leaving it for a long time. Drain the coolant.
      2 . To answer your question. Have the car at TDC and use the cam holders/locker as seen on this video to lock the cams into set position.
      3. Remove the tensioner to release tension on the chain. From there you remove the cams and delink the chain.

    Can someone help me, i drive e200 w211 1.8 Kompressor. And i have check engine light on. Went to a garage. Repairman read the fault. It was Camshaft adjuster. So i have a rattling sound, previous owner changed the timing chain. So everything was new. Once the repair guy. Looked at the chain. He said that one camshaft needs to be replaced ( and its fifty-fifty chance of success, but the same problem could occur.) he changed the camshaft were the chain was banging around, new bracket new cam. Engine was driving smooth. I paid 750€ for the repairs. Next day I was driving to work, same thing check engine light went on , and i already hear rattle again.) So my repairman said you need new engine, because thats a common problem with 1.8 kompressors. He said your options are new engine or sell the car. I went to other garage for second opinion. Because I really love that car. He said both of the brackets should be changed and the problem would be solved. (The first guy said, that it could be variety of reasons why cams are breaking, could be to much oil pressure so it imbalances the chain, thats why the rattle sounds comes back.) the second guy who is only repairing Mercedes veichles said to me I could change two brackets and problem solved. One bracket costs around 500-530€ so two new brackets and labour. It could pass the 1k mark in repair cost. What should I do , trust the guy who only fixes mercedes, or just get rid of the car. And search for something new? I am so lost……..
