I remember him after the AB's lost to the French in the 1999 RWC. He, along with a handful of other All Blacks, clapped the French off the field. That said a lot about the calibre of the man. Rest in Peace big guy. Thanks for the memories.
The way that Lomu run at his prime is like a young Ronaldo Nazario, that thunderous acceleration and direction changes, fints... really beautiful and devastating. Great great great player
+Jeremy Pearce A great player, a man whose career could have been even more impressive had it not been blighted by ill health. I'm not sure that I can agree with some of your other sentiments, however, the All Blacks had been putting NZ on the map years before. Think legends like Colin Meads or Waka Nathan, and let's not forget one who put NZ on the sporting map big time, in the shape of Peter Snell. However, what Jonah represented was an international star known by people who knew little about rugby, not only for his devastating play, but also in his recognised stature as a true gentleman.
+tony bennett yeah your right about that , I think I meant to say he was rugby's most recognised player in places like USA , but your comments are on the mark , well put
+tony bennett I don't want to cause too much of a debate - considering the circumstances. So forgive me. You said Colin Meads, Waka Nathan and Peter Snell... Lomu is bigger than all three combined - superstar-wise; in saying that he was bigger overseas than he was in NZ. But yes, great words nonetheless.
***** Thanks Rasta. I think that Peter Snell was certainly an international star. I remember when he retired, Time magazine ran an article titled "Farewell to Greatness". I think winning Olympic golds in showpiece races ensures that you are recognised worldwide. Anyway Jonah was still a huge star for the sport of RU, rightfully recognised as a great, and the first superstar of the modern rugby era, and an inspiration to the current crop of players.
***** thats awesome to hear , i think jonah would have made a great NFL player , but so grateful he stayed in rugby, keep watching rugby man and spread the word
RIP Jonah lomu being an England supporter you embarrassed us many times but it was a pleasure watching you run through people instead of around them don't think we will ever see your like again.
There is guys who are quick and powerful, guys who are powerful and big. But Lomu was big, quick and powerful. How do you stop such a man in his prime? Was sad to hear he passed away :-(
A great ambassador for rugby! Lomu was a very loyal bloke, not even the Dallas Cowboys could tempt him with a six million dollar offer. Quite a fitting offer though as Lomu was the ultimate bionic man on the field.
That was him at 80% healthy. Imagine a young 100% healthy Lomu now, undergoing modern training, he will be FASTER, STRONGER AND far far more FURIOUS than any backs now.
He's saying Lomu never won a World Cup. It's a common point bitter people like to point out when Lomu gets touted as the most formidable player to ever grace a rugby field.
having said that Lomu started relatively later on, being from a relatively poor Tongan family he didn't really play much before, he was and is just a genetic freak
What New Zealand males do from the first moment they enter the world.... Breath, eat, start playing rugby and sleep.... so on and so forth. Best rugby nation in the world!
he stolled through like a tank on a battlefield trying to win the war for his team >he certainly did that! i can see now why they made a game about him (jonah lomus rugby challenge)
South Africans claim to fame was that Jonah didn't score any tries against them. lol. Perhaps not against the springbok team, but he did destroy many south Africans in the process either in the Bok team or super rugby teams where he scored many. The afrikaan race who consider themselves as physically tough were no match for Jonahs pure Polynesian power. One game I remember specifically was a game against the sharks. Gary Teichmannn springbok cap at the time tried to take on Jonah head on, he got blown away back 5m. Took mark Andrews and the hooker to take him down, after that, Lomu got up and smiled and said... bring it on. Was at the game that day. To south Africans who think they physically dominated lomu, they didn't, it was more the springboks defensive structures that were top notch, not dominating him physically, they were no match for Lomu, when it came to power and pace. James Small couldn't even match his speed watch the sharks against the blues.
***** Yeah, not saying he was unstoppable, but 8 times out of 10 he was.... I mean would you even consider yourself a rugby player if you couldn't tackle Lomu once or twice out of 10, Id quit rugby for sure.
I remember him after the AB's lost to the French in the 1999 RWC. He, along with a handful of other All Blacks, clapped the French off the field. That said a lot about the calibre of the man. Rest in Peace big guy. Thanks for the memories.
Agreed. He was a man of extraordinary class.
The way that Lomu run at his prime is like a young Ronaldo Nazario, that thunderous acceleration and direction changes, fints... really beautiful and devastating. Great great great player
+Paco Rodríguez Ashame both Legends careers ended prematurely due to Injury/illness

RIP Jonah.. you were truly more than just a legend and it was because of you i played this game.. the world has loss a great humble warrior today
6ft6 19 stone and can run the 100 meters in 10.5 seconds in his rugby boots.
FUCK THAT..
+Stuart Davis lol he's gettin faster and faster. It was 10.8 before haha, still really impressive.
Thanks Jonah U put nz on the map and made rugby a world sport , it broke my heart to hear U died, a short life but a great life RIP
+Jeremy Pearce A great player, a man whose career could have been even more impressive had it not been blighted by ill health.

Lomu played for Counties way longer than other lesser talents ever did.
I have great respect for his talent but even more so for his loyalty.
A great ambassador for rugby! Lomu was a very loyal bloke, not even the Dallas Cowboys could tempt him with a six million dollar offer. Quite a fitting offer though as Lomu was the ultimate bionic man on the field.

So sad.
He was physicaly in advance on the time....nowdays there's a lot of player like him
yeah name one winger who’s like him and do the same damage.
That was him at 80% healthy. Imagine a young 100% healthy Lomu now, undergoing modern training, he will be FASTER, STRONGER AND far far more FURIOUS than any backs now.
normalcc today there's only Alex Tuilagi who is closest. Not as damaging though of course.
i remember watching these games i was like 7 lol we couldnt picture rugby without lomu
Rest in Peace Jonah Lomu!
He's saying Lomu never won a World Cup. It's a common point bitter people like to point out when Lomu gets touted as the most formidable player to ever grace a rugby field.

Not often do you hear someone say "the youngster Mccaw"
ABs and Poms have played 34 times. The Poms have only won 6 of those! Nuff Sed!!!
Players now are way better tacklers then players back then,
Rip jonah
Games played 35; NZ won 27, England 7 seems like those days are few and far between Lol

Lomu was awesome without a doubt. However he never scored a try against the mighty Springboks.
RIP
Nfl wish they had lomu
go uncle
what a waste goes to prove your health is number one God bless
Did anybody every actually manage to tackle this man?
3:06 Ronaldo Nazario?
They glossed over Lomu being made Emile N'Tamack's prison girlfriend against France in 1994.
Pfft mate, what did Emily do for Rugby? What have you done for rugby other than being made watergirl?
Henzary
Cemented his place in Rugby history by repeatedly humiliating a future superstar?
Thing is everybody remembers Lomu and no one including myself have ever heard of Mr Emily.
XD 0:28 He just bumped him!
Not familiar with rugby, but he reminds me a lot of Bo Jackson
He died in 2015
Rip
