Was there EVER a finer sight in world Rugby than Mr Jonah Lomu in full flight towards a try-line? And I say that as an Englishman, who watched him demolish, and literally run over, us in 1995. Rest Easy, Jonah, you will forever be missed, but NEVER forgotten.
As a South African...a full week after the BOKS won the 2019 RWC in JAPAN, I will tell you this, No Player will ever ignite the game of Rugby like JONAH LOMU did. To me JONAH LOMU will remain and forever will be THE GREATEST RUGBY PLAYER I have ever seen. RIP TO THIS GENTLE GIANT. ✌🏿🇿🇦
fully agree Dash. We had an amazing player like Gerber, and despite this Lomu will rank as the highest destroyer in rugby, much like Tyson was in boxing
A true giant of the sport & a fantastic person off the field as well. Never managed to score a try against the Bokke unfortunately - I remember the clash of the titans between Lomu & Small in the 95 world Cup, what a time!
I still remember where I was when I first saw Jonah Lomu play. 1995. I had just finished my shift whilst working part-time at JD Sports on Oxford Street. Loads of us went to a pub on Carnaby Street for after work drinks. This being London nobody in our group had an interest in rugby; only me. But the World Cup was on the screens. The game against Ireland had me glued. I was like: "who's this dude?" By the time he went on that run where he ran the length of pitch beating 5 players then handing off to Gronfeld, everyone in our group, indeed the whole pub, were also glued to the screens - stunned by the sheer athleticism of this guy. From that moment I knew (as did the whole world) that rugby union players would have to paid!
An extraordinary player. Great hands, great strength, great speed, great power, a beautifully balanced runner, with a brilliant side step off either foot, and a fair man who always played with respect for the shirt, his team mates and the opposition. Truly, unquestionably, the greatest player of all time. A phenomenon. Unlikely to ever see his like again.
Love you Jonah bro.... The greatest attacking oval ball player in history, any oval ball sport... Never forget when we lost to France in that world cup game. You waited for France to do there lap of honor and clapped them of the field and shock all there hands.. While your team mates hid Inside... In your worst defeat you stood tall bro.... Ill Never forget wot you did that day.. YOU WERE THE REAL DEAL IN EVERY SENSE.
He is the reason why I started watching rugby in 1995, I never knew about it, but there was just too much good being spoken of him during the 1995 tournament. The best rugby player I have ever watched, big strong, smart, balanced unbelievable acceleration.
An unbelievable player - he repeatedly made fools of my beloved Wallabies but then he tormented an awful lot of other backlines too. And a true gentleman off the field. Sorely missed.
I heard the name and saw the emotional tribute Haka for Lomu when he passed but his play was very, very impressive to watch. Lomu is so fast that he can run right by you and so big and strong that he just plows through bodies. Arm tackles could never take a man like this off his feet. Jonah Lomu is a true once in a lifetime kind of athlete.
I lifted weights with him once, even recovering from his illness he was still a beast. Incredibly humble, and incredibly inspiring. All of us would be happy to be half the man he was.
What a freakish athlete, I'm a new rugby fan from United States. Soringboks vs All Blacks is what sparked my interest during pandemic and now on RUclips watching games from every year. Lomu is a very special athlete, to big to strong and to fast. Sad how it ended for a talented individual. Also been watching cricket also.

People dont realise, Jonah Lomu was not a certainty for the 1995 Rugby World Cup. He, along with several other players were about a 50/50 chance to make the squad going into the Trial. I was at the game and witnessed him score two brilliant tries, cementing his place in tbe team. Had he not produced the goods that night he would NOT have made the squad, some really good players missed out(Lee Stensness, Arran Pene...). The guy was superhuman, amazing speed and agility, for a player his size RIP Jonah
Yes... the ultimate rugby player. I was a teenager when I first heard of him and then watched him play. I found my way to the rugby pitch soon after that.

Us South Africans have massive respect for the All Blacks. There has always been mutual respect and that's what I love about this rivalry. Cullen, Lomu, Wilson, Mehrtens, Marshall, Zinzan, Jones. All heroes of mine
Loved watching Jonah. I read somewhere that he had 27" thighs and you could tackle but the strength was immense as they scissored open breaking the tackle. They developed a new tactic, grab one leg and try to hold on.. then someone else tackled him as well.. RIP KING Jonah
It's like watching under 10s rugby and theres that one polynesian kid that's bigger and faster than everyone else and scores 10 tries a game. His tries are unbelievable. Rest easy big man. Thanks for the memories
Will we ever see another player like this phenomenon of a man. Though he played in the best team he shone out like a star at its brightest moment. Speed, power, balance and reliability at scoring tries repeatedly while abliterating some of the best defences in the world. Rest on peace legend. I'm just glad that I was there to witness this humble beast.
RIP? My good friend, if Jonah is the Jonah we all came to know he is not resting one moment. He is running paths through the rugby teams in Heaven and having a ball of a time, with no end in sight. We can all stand up and salute his memory. This was the only man the Springboks feared on the field, they had a whole strategy all by itself built around Lomu. This man was a rugby wrecking ball and the best the world has ever seen. Thank you NZ for giving the world such an exhibition of sheer rugby genius and physical phenomena. We shall never forget this man. What is to me the pinnacle of his attitude towards the game was the fact that with his strength, explosive power and speed he could have ended many a career on the field. He never did, he played his heart out, putting everything into every moment, but his respect for fellow rugby players prevented him from seriously injuring players. A gentleman. A hero. A phenom. In a hundred year's time every rugby enthusiast will remember two names from days gone by. William Webb Ellis and Jonah Lomu. And deservedly so.
I’m American and know absolutely NOTHING about rugby, but this big man was AMAZING to watch! I don’t even know how I stumbled across this tribute but I’m so glad I did...

It's easy to see that he could have really excelled in many other sports. His combination of Speed, power, balance, and finesse is truly incredible. It's like watching a man competing against boys. He was tall, but he was unusually heavy relative to his height considering how fast and agile he was, and it's easy to see why that's so useful in Rugby. I'm sure he could have been a great boxer, wrestler, running back (American Football), mma fighter, ice hockey player, etc...
The Greatest Rugby Player in the World ever more so in his day .... can I get some likes for a SIR JONAH LOMU for his contribution to the game of Rugby.... RIP BIG FALLA we miss you bro...

Because he was the best running player I've ever seen , and I doubt we'll see the like again .
Damn man we needed you tonight 2019 world cup loss to England
Yous would've had another world cup if Jonah had've been around! one man army, Frank gallagher would have proud of him, a privilege to watch, don't think we'll see the like again!!! R.I.P JONAH
Rest in Love big man truly a inspiration thank you for the great memories.
Its February 2022 and Im still here watching Lomu.......what a legend, truly was a powerful unstoppable force against any rugby opponent. NEVER FORGOTTEN . RIP BIG GUY
Always when i watch Unkl Jonah Lomu bring tears to my eyes knowing that Unkl passed away way to early.
Yet Unkls Legacy Lives on For Ever.
G.O.A.T. Rip and Light Unkl Jonah Lomu.Missed but never Forgotten
Once he got moving there was no stopping him. So beautiful to watch.
Fantastic video. Such much more than on others I have seen.
Thanks for the support Robert!
RIP BIG FALLA we miss you bro...
rest in peace big man

8.08 just sums him up for me. Pure dedication to get the job done. What a player and a privilege to have seen him play
he was just so good.
The most freakishly physically gifted player there has ever been.

So fast for a big man. So balanced, I tell ya, Bruce Lee would have been proud. I love you Jonah, hero of mine
Gareth Duncan Absolutely Gareth. People often remember him for running over people, but he had a complete skill set and really was the ultimate rugby player
Speed was ridiculous, what an athlete
Haha! Funny.....
I leave nothing but love for this master.
25 years ago today when he burst on to the world superstar platform with his 4 try demolition of england in the SA world cup , Lived down the road from him in Wgtn - Real gentleman , in Mapuia up on the hill , just a nice guy all round .
Before watching your video, I saw an other one called "the ultimate tribute of jonah" but it makes me laugh when i see the depth of your work, the quality the effort and the patience.
You are making probably the best videos about rugby of the net and it makes me laugh all those shitty tributes with techno music of 3 minutes and they call it a tribute...
Keep going !
paul lanthier Jeez Paul, thanks for the kind words! I just make the type of videos I would like to watch. Thanks for the support :)
