Most iconic rugby try in my lifetime will always be the semi final try new Zealand v england. Jonah lomu running over mike catt. I was 8 years old when I watched that world Cup. The day after that try I begged my dad to take me to the local rugby club. Been watching it ever since. Watch rugby league two both 2 amazing sports and Jonah was the biggest star of them all. Rip big man will forever be my hero

    • @interestedbystander196
      @interestedbystander196 4 года назад

Indeed, friend. Jonah changed the game like no one before or since.
      He's a rugby icon/god/legend for a reason.
I suspect, though, that if you dropped him into a game today (at peak fitness, his illness notwithstanding), he wouldn't make as much of an impact.
He changed the mold for what a backline rugby player is. Never before had there been a giant, string, fast winger, with real skills.
If you look now, though, every second guy is a Lomu.
You see where I'm coming from?
Jonah was a special player, and a standout in his time, and he wears the 11 jersey in my GOAT team. But the 14 jersey goes to my pick for the greatest winger, Bryan Habana.
I'm sure a lot of folks would have things to say about my suggestion above, and about my selection, but it is my team. That's the beauty of it. I cannot be wrong. 😉
Have a good one, and stay safe.

All those great moments of sport and achievement... unique !
A particular one, I shall never forget : at 5:28 in the USA vs AFS pool match, during the RWC 2007 in France. I was the venue's official commentator, and couldn't believe it when the blazing Ngwenya outsprinted Habana for a 55 meter try. That was a sensation in the whole stadium, even for the staff in our booth ! We nearly forgot to announce it, then suddenly woke up to realise it was for real : someone could actually run faster than "Brian the one".
Aside this particular moment, the whole World cup was a huge pleasure from start to finish. Kind of thing you never can forget and keep in your thoughts for a whole life. I just can't wait for that next one to come.
See you in 2023, you lots !

A word on the Carlos Spencer try vs Crusaders, and correct me if I'm wrong. That was the final minute. Blues were ahead on points. Just needed to hold on and kick it out. Not only did he score that point, but deliberately touched down in the corner and slotted the kick to deprive them of the losing bonus point. This was away against their fiercest rivals. Legend

But the rest of these are magnificent. I love seeing a piece of individual brilliance like the Dawson, Carter, Cullen or Lomu tries. But there's nothing more satisfying than seeing a whole-team try like Maitland for Scotland, Edwards for the Barbarians or Sadourny for the French.

Gareth Edward's with that try...the best build-up ever. That side-stepping from Phil Bennett was out of this world. The best ever try (IMO) I've watched it so often:

Not just unforgettable tries. There are a couple of unforgettable games here too. My favourite has to be Japan v SA. What an amazing game. One try missing for me though was by Phillipe Saint Andre against England at Twickenham. Started by, of course, Serge Blanco. A truly amazing try as good as the one by Gareth Edwards for the Babas against NZ in my opinion.

Gareth Edwards try for ba ba's those Phill Bennett side steps pure class ! . And Jonah Lumo's try he bulldozed over mike catt for a very big guy and a winger he had speed pace but overall a a real unit a beast of a player R.I.P Jonah Lomu . Stay blessed I'm out peace . ✌🏉🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿💯

Lomu will always be remembered in Cardiff , both for that try, and the time he spent in Cardiff playing. Gone far too early .

It's only illegal if you get caught. Back row is about seeing how far you can push the law. McCaw was the master at doing his job.

Paddy Grant With Joubert as a referee, you will never get caught as long as you play for a southern nation. I can hardly see the difference between playing with the rules and cheating in this case...

Some pretty good stuff here. Thanks for putting it together. If you'll forgive me for saying, some bias towards the more modern stuff I think. Hard to believe that a video titled "Unforgettable tries" doesn't feature Campese even once. Or for that matter Rory Underwood, Ieuan Evans, Simon Geoghegan, Jeremy Guscott, or Scott Gibbs. I mean who could forget Gibbs' try against England at Wembley in 1999? Michael Lynaugh's try against Ireland in 1991??

Springbok fan here, but that was a great moment. Once I could speak again (after about 20 minutes), I recognised how wonderful it actually was.
Surprising how so many people still talk about how SA lost to Japan. Actually, they did not lose. They played fairly well, but Japan BEAT them, which is a different thing entirely.
