- Mark Crossfield golf professional is talking VR FaceBook Oculus Golf+ game and how this could change golf forever. The possibilities of VR learning, play and practice are just beginning and Mark feels this could become one of golfs best learning devices. Learning at home could really help golfers enjoy their games more while at the same time help them improve skills understanding and make new friends. VR oculus golf game what could this mean for golf and will this be a line in the sand for improved golf lessons and golf learning.

Just downloaded this and I must say it's pretty accurate. Sliced every drive just like the real thing
I've got this game, was hoping someone would review it. 100% its so realistic. I pull my drives in exactly the same way on the course. Thanks for reviewing
I've had the Quest 2 since release, and picked up this game while it was still in Beta. I said at that time the physics were remarkable. So cool to see Mark showcasing this.
Really enjoyed this Mark. Dare I say my favourite video in a while. Perhaps people who can no longer play golf this would be great for.
would like to see the video series of a student (brand new to golf) starting out on the VR and seeing how it affects their progression to the game on course.
I was actually just thinking of doing something like that myslef. Never played golf besides one night at TopGolf, but have been playing Golf+ on the quest for a couple months now. Purchased a quality club attachment for the quest which makes a load of difference, and actually bought my first set of clubs this week since my friends convinced me to. Hoping to see how/if it translates at all
@@ajbarrett3661 Any update on how it went? Super curious if it's worth it as a practice tool....,
@@MisterRousseaux it is different, especially driving and initial contact. But playing golf+ and watching videos have really helped. Played 18 holes with some buddies, lost 3 balls on the first hole and then not a single one after, took me about 7 holes to figure out how to hit the driver right, but everything else seemed fine. My goal was for a couple bogeys, which I figured would be solid for a first-timer, and I got some! But I sliced my driver even more than I did in golf+
@@MisterRousseaux I would still say that a driving range is better than golf+, but I won’t deny that the hand position, swinging mechanics, and all of that from golf+ definitely did help
It really IS amazing. The game gets 10x better with attachment AND weights. I made my own attachment with 3D printed mold, broken golfclub and Kiwi weigths. The swing patch gets so much more natural now.
what sort of weights do you use? I got an attachment from Etsy that I love, and has a supported preset in game, but noticed it's still a lot lighter than actual clubs
This is awesome. I think this could be more beneficial than just pounding balls on the range. Teaches you a better concept of developing skills
Thanks for trying out and reviewing the game mark! I'm a gamer and a golfer, picked this game up on release day and have been playing it ever since, the team has come a huge way, from the start of the game, with only the Proputt courses to the Topgolf Range, and to a Full Golf game in one and a half years, it has been and still is a wild ride and I enjoy every second of it.
For someone who is stuck abroad in a country where golf is completely unaffordable, this might be absolutely brilliant! Very nice vid, Mark!
What country is that? Just so I can avoid it if possible lol
@@SiLoMixMaster Haha it's Switzerland, but on a PhD-student budget. Switzerland is crazy expensive, and with my salary, getting to the golf course is just not a financially viable option. It's expensive everywhere, at least those countries without a history of golf to have paid off the debts to landowners already, but I would have to spend my entire year salary to get a membership to a golfclub. And considering everything is twice to three times as expensive as where I originally come from, I do have some other expenses like 'food' (who knew that was important).
I could go with a greenfee on occasion but I can eat almost a month on what that costs me, and it's not like working in academia will set you up for life anyway. So it's waiting time until I get back.
@@Boerkreeelis Yeah I can imagine Switzerland must be expensive for playing golf (and most things in general lol) but thanks for the detailed reply about the costs, the only idea I can come up with to help is crossing the border into one of the neighbouring countries and seeing if golf is cheaper there - but I'm sure you would have tried that already if it was an option. I hope you somehow manage to get a round in soon (even if it's just with the VR game Mark is playing) and all the best with your PhD 👍
@@SiLoMixMaster Cheers!
VR is simply amazing, so many things you can do with it, from Golf to other activities, I love it!
morning yaw'll is Mark Crossfield's godlike form. I love the kitchen format intros. Brings me back to the beauty coffee shot days.
Great video. With regards to honing in your distances, you could try setting the Power Range (found just above each club in the club selection menu) lower or higher, depending on how far you hit. If you are a softer hitter like me, perhaps dropping the Power meter (range) a bit will then mean you are hitting the distances you normally hit.
They have done an amazing job. It's genuinely fantastic.
I have a quest 2. It is great for exercise and fun. The table tennis game and boxing games are great and I'll be trying the golf game soon.
Absolutely love this Mark, agree the possibilities are endless but even just playing with Friends on this V1 version would be great, if they develop it correctly and get more golf accessories for the handle etc and you could add in your own distances it would be top class. nothing will beat playing but in the UK that's not always possible. Most average golfers can't afford to build a sim with track man etc to play golf virtually with friends but this gives us all something affordable and fun with some teaching/training purposes that have the opportunity to get better...I'm sold already
You have to pickup the deadeyevr drivr. It adapts the controller to a golf club and is supported specifically by golf+. Makes the club way more realistic.
Does that add much weight? Thanks
@@MichaelWilliams-sx2pk I have both versions, the carbon shafted one that's pretty light, and the iron shafted one. I prefer the iron one for golf+ because the weight feels much more like a real club.
@@BJBjostad that sounds great, will definitely look into that. Thanks
It was 6 o clock in the evening when i started playing this, just out of interest in the name of science, its now 01.39 am, i've had a few and i'm absolutely gobsmacked at how good this is and i may stay up all night ha ha
You are a dam good golfer instructor and seemingly a pretty good golfer. I hadn't before given you enough credit as being as bright as you are. Well done
My jaw was dropped all the way to the end. Fun video.
I'm sure there will be Arccos like attachments that you could eventually add to your clubs and send the data to the application collecting real time swing path, speed, etc...then it will be a game changer as you don't need to install a large net, mat, projector, to build an at home virtual golf system.
I have been playing this vr game since mid January and love it. My son has started playing golf and I am dusting my clubs off from a very long break away. Absolutely buzzing thta you hVe featured the Quest 2 and this game. The developers are great and their discord channel is a good place to hang out too.
‘It just shows you what can be done, in my slippers….in my Lakers jersey…’ I don’t know why but that just really made me laugh. Great insight, love it
Living in Winnipeg, Canada, with snow on the ground 6 months of the year, this thing is a godsend! My daughter got one and wanted my wife and I to try it. I was blown away. I tried it first, and while my wife was using it, I was already ordering it from Amazon. The ceilings in my home are too low for a simulator, so this is perfect! If you accessorize it with the battery pack headband, you get over 4 hours of play between chargings. So realistic and so many areas and games to dabble in. I will probably have to quit my job or take an early retirement so I can just spend my days with this thing on my head.
Unbelievable!
This is fantastic. I want to see live VR golf tournament instead of on the TV. Feeling like you are there would be awesome.
Eventually they will. Governments and tech companies want you to stay home and be separated from society. Easier to to control you and get your money
@@colinschenck2129 understand what you mean but I will always go and see the events if I have the chance and it’s accessible. I would prefer to see the event in real life but when it’s at the other side of the world why not?
Had a play with my sons Quest 2 at Xmas, great fun and getting in at the start is a great thing to do with tech like this. I found the golf very easy to pick up, and the putting rather tricky.
I love the “Morning y’all”.
Really missed it when you stopped doing it…
Watched your vlog on wolf creek after watching when your head fell off..lol . Amazing how they have replicated the course
The experience playing with a friend in another state is truly amazing.
Totally agree Mark. It’s great fun and quite realistic considering it’s limitations. Social aswell.
I've missed the coffee/tea intros....welcome back yall.
Really think you are one of the greatest and thinking of concepts for videos. Even you last training vids dealing with nerves, 5 must haves etc. Very good content. And this looks epic. I always go back to golf computer/ mobile games but they only keep my interest for a few days
I played a lot of Wii Golf back in the day but never helped my game sadly. They could definitely add teaching functions in there to help you visualize swing chances.. But I still think there's a need to deal with real grass and the crazy lies real life serves you. I'd rather do the real thing personally but whatever makes people get off their asses and move more; I'm for it!
Definitely good for people learning impact factors and ball flights.
I can't wait to see a virtual Coach Lockey playing next to you. Hahaha. I'm on board with this. It could be a great winter alternative when the snow is a foot deep here in the Midwest US.
Well done Mark, got one of these at Christmas and the Golf + game is awesome, as is Beat Sabre.
Great video. We got one for the kids for Christmas and I've held off on the golf game since I thought it would be kinda useless. What golf grip are you interested in?
It looks great and definitely heading in the right direction for training
Haha serious Ready Player One (the book) vibes from this game. It’s crazy. A bit off topic here, I’m working on an Astrophysics major, and a big problem COVID’s handed us is not being to attend in person labs. I’m really hoping technology like this develops for many more avenues of everyday life to make it accessible regardless of what’s going on in the real world 🙃
Cheers Mark, great video as always 👍
Top stuff...............now need to steal the Oculus from my eldest ;-)
When it's so cold outside this looks like a reasonable way to go.
Would have loved to see a follow up to this with new version. Great content!
Brilliant piece of kit 🏌️♂️
That looks like it has some real potential the 'virtual club' idea to get some mass in the grip would likely make it amazing.
Watched video yesterday… had to buy one today🙉😂 golfgrip ordered!
Does bring up a good point in learning the game. How important is club to ground interaction and How important is feel/weight in the game? Some players are all feel and some are analytical in nature. If the analytics become more precise not necessarily towards a GC2HMT but at least clubhead data..this could be good fun. I'll wait for the 3rd round to come out.
Very interesting device . I might come to getting one for winter rainy days . For the time being, I hit my wall with actual clubs and foam balls .
This just cements Mark's strike is king statement. Even in VR, he is still hits his real life numbers. #forgetyourtech #marketingisBS
Ive been playing this game since Christmas when I got my Oculus! I find it great, Im looking forward to the future updates when they bring in new clubs and different brands! great video Mark
Mark can you take a look at the golf e5 club. In the driving range you can see your golf metrics. Swing speed, angle of attach, club head path etc. Can you take a look at it and report on how accurate these metrics are to your golf swing. Would this "game" be a good training simulator?
Mark, be very aware of the tendinitis risk with these systems. I never had a problem in my life until I used one of these for a couple months. It took me a whole season of rest, ice and braces to finally get through the golfers elbow it caused. Apparently the old Nintendo Wii golf had the same risks. It has something to do with full swings and the lack of resistance compared to a real club. Just letting you know.
Damn bruh… that’s pretty awesome. I mean the exhibition of your Laker fandom…but that applies to the golf game as well. LOL. There’s some voodoo magic going on here. I can’t wait for the next iterations when they more advanced and more detailed!!!
Just wait until full body tracking is more common. We can have real time remote golf instruction or automated golf instruction with body position check points ala Golf Tec.
Loved the dancing brah. 😍
This was cool mark. Many of the same thoughts!
For me the key factor is the weight of the club and contact with the ball. Thus, for me, ball launch monitors coupled to screens shielded by nets will still be preferred. But then cost is likely to be vastly different. A launch monitor, PC, screen projector and software starts at around £4 - 5k and can easily reach £50,000 for the top notch gear. But it feels so much more like a golf shot. What price would a Golf+ VR system be pitched at, and while the simulator space almost has to be dedicated the VR approach does offer works anywhere convenience. So the three factors for me are:
1. Club swing weight and impact
2. Complete system pricing
3. Setup convenience in dedicated or reusable space.
Quest 2 is like 299$ the game is maybe 30$ or something, not much.
Love it Mark. I have not used my quest enough for golf. The putting on it is unreal. I have not played the actual courses yet only the range top golf and pro putt but I was blown away but how realistic it was for as you say what is effectively V1 and I believe there are other golf games now too.
Love the business meeting idea not something I even thought about. Next team meeting definitely on the course 😀
Could you see it evolving to a point where you could be giving a lesson virtually? maybe they could add path numbers, extension, flexion, rotation. Throw in a vr force plate (wii balance board) possibilities are endless. Hope you are sharing more ideas with the developers. This really could be a future contender to the affordable the home launch monitor/simulator
Looks ace! Definitely need to get my hands on this!
Great video and interesting concept 😲😲
Mark can hit any club on the planet, any way he wants to hit it. He can now even hit a club that’s not a club, any way he wants to hit it.
Really good idea and shows the possibilities for practice for those that can’t have indoor nets and launch monitors that want something.
Great video would like to see more as it develops and other ideas like this.
Even on the VR Muppet Tour it would be rude not to bogey the first 🤣 A match with coach would be entertaining as always. Pretty cool development 👍
Great ! Nicely done.
I'm a +3.7 hc and a top 500 apex legends player... I'm a 35 year old man with 3 kids and I love gaming and golf... this is amazing
It may be kinda way out there today, but I'm sure 10-20 years ago people said the same thing about simulators and look at how mainstream they have become today. Great vid mark
I'm proof that gaming can get you into golf, because that's how I started. Hanging out with my brother playing Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 for a couple of weekends in a row decided to give it a go in real life, been hooked ever since.
I love this game graphically but i would love to see vr focused coarses like you see in miniputt or what ever its called. Like use vr to make coarses that use that space
So cool, -15c today at home. Wish I had one of these. Thanks for the lesson. 😃😉👍
I just played Wolf creek 2 weeks ago and vr looks to be in better condition. 😀
Love this for playing with others or for lessons maybe
3d printed adapters for your swing training clubs on the bay available for these so you can dial in your tempo, grip & swing all at the same time :)
i love golf+ on my oculus so much damn fun
I predict one day you going be to close to that tv and sling in to it. Some of your swings already had my anxiety up lol 😂
I got the Phigolf for Christmas. Give that a go. I think you can put it in your of golf as well. And it comes with a training club
These, along with launch monitors, are mostly being held back by the inability to accurately capture the lie of the ball.
For example, long roughs are the only hazard on the course which Broadie's "Stroke's Gained" metric cannot predict - and I'd argue capturing the accuracy (and difficulty) of lies are paramount in capturing the true experience of golf.
A soggy day at Ballybunion plays vastly differently to a hot day at Bay Hill...
Great review. Oculus is one of the most underrated inventions of all time.
Also one the most dangerous. Keep people at home and separated. The more time you spend on it, the more money they get instead of going out and helping out a local business
Can’t wait to get my Versace golf slippers.
I already want one!!!
Great potential here, and also a marketing dream for manufactures
Looks pretty realistic, just needs someone rushing out from the clubhouse shouting you can't play in your slippers and vest
Haha brilliant 👍👍
Loved this. Looking into it for sure!
Looks amazing and my son wants the vr set for his birthday 🎂 win win
You've got to get some vid of Lou making & playing a 3D putter (with elastic bands & rope controlling his stroke length/power 🤣
There's an attachment that is a real golf club grip on Amaz**. It is still short enough that you can swing in a small room, it isn't life sized.
Mark, have you tried to hit shots fat or thin? Curious of that when you mentioned the low point comment or if it’s basically just a center strike on all shots and just flight and trajectory are only based on “handle lean and face angle” sorta speak. Very cool
i was playing multiplayer and the guy i was playing with said they should add golf carts to the game. that's like 1/3 of the fun too in real life haha
If you can duplicate the feels, it would be a great practice help, especially in winter.
It's weird that I remember your kitchen being built when ever you start a video in your house 😂😂
Just imagine, if at a later date you could book in at a virtual golf game from the uk to play at your favorite home course say in Malaysia with your mates, from anywhere around the world. Not just the big courses but your home town ones too. And every time you play that course some of the revenue goes back to that course. Clubs could get extra revenue for just being on the game.
Well done the most bizarre video you've ever done. 👏
It looks fun I would really like to see it with golf grips and weighted. I think you and Mat should film a match at some exotic location.
I have a quest 2 and have been thinking about getting this game for a while. Never did I expect I would get a game review from you 😂 great stuff though, looks like this could be a good training aid for my real golf
You can dial in your distance on each club with the power meter on the dashboard
what swing weight is your controller ? - Seriously, this IS a game changer !!
Tape a short length of wire to the ground so that you have tactile location and orientation sensing. Do not rely on the guardian alone.
I could see that long term there could be benefits. The big thing for me and I think many others would be the controller. As you eluded to and more development comes, there will need to be more weight and realistic weight added to controllers to offer a real life benefit. From all the reviews you've done over the years, you're not shaft/length/weight sensitive in your swing. You can pretty much get results from any club so a feather light controller isn't going to influence your results on screen but for others that are, it won't transfer well until the controllers are more realistic to the game outside. Looks cool though and definitely has a lot of potential, especially in colder (and very hot) climates when you may not be able to play golf year round, like we can in Oz.
you need the deadeye vr golf attachment its a real golf grip and ads a lot to the experience
In the past 6 Months they have had major updates. You should try it again. The putt and Ball Flight have gotten better and they are now starting to add real courses you might have played or at least seen on TV during PGA Tournament.
Brilliant video! Super interesting. Would easily watch you play 18 holes VR-golf and Day of the week!👍👍
I have a Samsung Odyssey+ VR set with two controllers. Will have to see if I can download it on my system. Looks fun.
hi Mark, What a fantastic video. Did you have to sign up to facebook in order to use this? Thanks
