Hard pass… I prefer not to loose my long range vision, and I can live with all my average stuff and my terrible slice that gets stuck in real mud. To me, THAT is happiness! There’s no achievement in a digital world that makes up for a lack of achievement in the real world.
This VR game just got way better after the last physics update. No more power meter, just your swing to judge the distance.
Well, Rick is explaining escapism, which many of us engage in when times aren't great. Some drift off into entertainment, others their favorite adult beverages, but it all has the same purpose. To get our minds off of the reality we have created, which is most likely not what we imagined in our youth.
For many people, golf is also a form of escapism tbh.

Ive recently got the Quest 3. They're amazing! Way better than i expected. The most unusual thing about them is how comfortable you feel when in there and how "normal" it feels!

This was great, I really enjoy the casual style. You and Rick are right, this is the future and it is concerning how it could impact society. Also, I highly recommend reading “Ready Player One”, there is a movie too but it isn’t as good. It is all about a future where people live inside a virtual world. “The story, set in a dystopia in 2045, follows protagonist Wade Watts on his search for an Easter egg in a worldwide virtual reality game, the discovery of which would lead him to inherit the game creator's fortune.”

I've been playing Golf+ for a while now and love that the courses are so realistic. One thing I can't figure out though is whether it's improving my real-life golf or making it worse. I think it might improve my course management but I'm not sure about the swing. Do you have an opinion on that? If I play Golf+ an hour a day, will it mess up my swing completely or will it improve my golf?

I haven’t played in years and was about to sell my quest2. Picked up golf + and man. Best decision I’ve made. Bought the club attachment and more DLc courses. Play on pro for as much realism that this game offers and it’s a great time. This game has made me want to pick my clubs up again
I've recently had an an op and can't cope with too much walking etc. I've got my VR up and running with the golf just so I can have a few gentle strokes and build my self up without any of the side issues of getting myself to a range or walking a course. It is spectacular!!!!

In my Metaverse, Iona and Rick would be entertaining me still, I'd be slimmer, younger and both knees would work. But my wife and kids would still be my wife and kids.

I had a shot of my nephews VR and was playing the table tennis, honestly nearly fell about 5 times trying to lean on the table 😂🙈
When Rick said it scared him I thought of the movie Avatar. The main character was paralyzed from the waist down but was fully mobile when driving his avatar. If I remember correctly (someone correct me if I'm wrong), the head scientist said that he needed to take care of his body when he was not connected. This is what I see happening to many people. A terrifying possibility.
I remember a movie called Lawnmower Man that used similar technology but way back when it was in its infancy. Scary story line but looking at kids now it could be a reality

Great stuff - I got the meta 2 and enjoy it a lot. You should video highlight (and enjoy) some other features of the game. Check out single-player or practice - then do an analyzer. It shows the path and face. Also, practice any shot from putting to approaching and driver. Then, shall I take a breath, try the single player closest to the pin. This is very fun. Cheers.
I have this game. It is AMAZING and very fun. I would like to know how close the golf shot analyzer is in reality. You can play several real courses. A stand-alone machine. Great for winter I think.???
Getting back to real golf, I think this screwed me up. I could hardly hit a real ball. Id love to play Rick on the oculus sometme. Even in the game id get spanked.
i adjusted my power to match my real swing. Made it more realistic.
I’ve been a fan of Rick for a long time! I currently work as an employee at Meta so to hear Rick talk about his pros/cons and to have his finger on the pulse about the metaverse was very cool to see. The only bit I would object to is that the metaverse is not meant to take away time from real life, it is meant to enhance the experiences that we already have via 2D (which is already quite often). Either way, great video Rick and Iona!
I've played the golf on it.. It is realistic but also doesn't mirror my actual swing but also haven't messed with the strength settings
it would be great if the feedback from the "club" was truly the same weight and captured the path with 100% (or near) accuracy and you could actually use this as a training aid! I would sign up immediately!

When you play VR golf do you notice that it matches how you normally play golf or is it not that precise?
You have to set the power meter to like 84% because 300% will give you unrealistic distances way further than you can hit it in real life .

VR is SO exciting but has been hamstrung by controls, tech power, low res, uncomfortable equipment etc. These are improving all the time, though.
We really need more publishers to make great games & software - it's so frustrating! It's the usual hardware/software, chicken & egg scenario. The opportunities for leisure & training are really interesting.
Sad that Meta got hold of Oculus - investment is good, but I get the feeling they'll try to over-control it & tie it too closely to FaceBook etc.

Enjoyed the video, I have this game, it’s on offer on the oculus app, pity the golf grip attachments are so expensive compared to the game!
Ping pong is cool too. Play long enough and you literally try to put the paddle down on the “table” and it isn’t there lol.
Oh and you can go into night clubs....and meet people from all over the world there/their avatars. Crazy

My god what is with people freaking out lol. This sh has been happening since we got internet access on our phones. Escaping reality didn’t start with VR lmao. And no one is in position to judge each other without knowing where we all come from to say that it is _______.
And yes, it’s unfortunate that technology is kinda driven by money rather than innovation first but that has also been our predictable reality/future

Personally, the lack of wind\air resistance and the missing moment of torque through impact is a let down. I played a few rounds in VR and lost interest.
This has made me really sad. I feel like the zuck is just around the corner pointing at the words they need to say. Literally no one cares about the metaverse. It's dead. VR golf is great though and has been for years.
Word of advice. Do not use this a a practice option for real golf. It will mess up you real life golf game. Topping the ball. As well as missing the ball completely is what I dealt with.
first hand I've seen the effect of smartphones on young kids... it's not great. many are detached from the real world. VR will put this on steroids. concerning for sure... we all need to be diacussing the simple question of "just because we can do it, should we do it?"

STOP EQUATING VR WITH THE METAVERSE! They are two separate things. I've had Oculus since its inception before Meta bought it and never once stepped foot in the Metaverse. The Metaverse is a failed attempt at social VR created by Meta. It has nothing to do with Golf+, which is the game you are using. When you say VR is the Metaverse, new users are turned off because of the bad connotations they've heard of Meta. There's so much more to VR than the Metaverse and you never have to even acknowledge it. VR NOT METAVERSE
... except you won't be able to connect in China. They have a government created firewall in place.
