    Fantastic video review and thank you for covering our product!
    To address the point about the total weight in the video: another comment assumed correctly that the higher weight is to compensate for the reduced length of the DriVR Pro. Because of the reduced length, more mass is needed to create the same feeling that a lighter longer golf has 😊

    You guys should highlight the “swing analyzer” feature in their practice mode. I’ve never understood the swing path/open face numbers as well as I did after a few swings in that mode. Legitimately super helpful. Made changes to my swing based on that feedback that carried over to a golf simulator. (When the weather warms up, I’ll see if it translates to the real world.)

  • @craigfoster354
    @craigfoster354 Год назад +7

    While the average wedge (heaviest club in the bag save for some ridiculously heavy putters) weighs around 470g, the average driver on tour weighs only 330g which slightly more than half the weight of the DriVR + Oculus controller. Would have been nice if DriVR had included two or three different weights to screw onto the shaft end, e.g. one for wedges, one for mid-irons and one for woods. I wouldn't mind changing the weight with each shot if it was easy and made it more realistic.

  • @ChiliTomatoNoodle
    @ChiliTomatoNoodle Год назад +5

    The mass for the DriVR might be more, but when swinging what matters is the moment of inertia, which is a function of both the weight and the distance from the axis of rotation. DriVR is shorter than a real club, so a heavier weight would offset the length difference and equalize the moment. Why not just make the DriVR longer? Not everyone has 20ft ceilings :]

  • @davidleslie1127
    @davidleslie1127 Год назад +11

    The VR stick is on a much shorter lever arm. So, they probably did account for the added weight of the controller. Since it's on a shorter shaft it would need to be heavier at the tip in order to "feel" the same net effectively during the swing as your PW. Waggle your PW, and then waggle this VR stick back-to-back, and my guess is that will feel approx. the same - but - it won't feel exactly the same b/c of the shaft length, and also the way in which the weight is applied @ the tip (density of a clubhead vss. a controller, etc..., wind force, etc...). Anyway. The entire point is to say b/c it's shorter it should've been slightly heavier to account for that.

    Fellas, fellas. I just got this after waiting like 10 weeks for it. You guys are awesome. I appreciate the reviews and the videos are always great. Very thorough and informative, but I gotta say this thing is horrible. It’s heavy as hell. I swing p790s with stiff 105gram dynamic gold shafts that aren’t exactly light and this controller setup felt like I was swinging a mini sledge hammer. They made it way too heavy. When I first took it out of the box and swung it a little, it felt great and I was pumped to try it. As soon as I put the controller on it, forget about it. To be fair, if you’re swinging a pitching wedge in the game it will feel kind of ok, but as you get longer with the clubs it gets heavy. Forget about woods. The driver felt really weird. No driver is that heavy. Not even close. I’m afraid this thing will screw up my real swing. The old controller setup I had was too light and that messed me up for a few real rounds. I can totally see this deadeye controller messing with my timing and maybe even hurting my wrists. I don’t want this thing. If anybody is in Hudson county, NJ, lemme know. I’ll sell it to you for 40 bucks. Less than half of what I paid (85).

    I have a great experiment for you to try! Attach the controller to a real club, go to an actual driving range and tee off with the same club irl as in the game... try a few shots with a few clubs. and we can see how the game shots compare to the in real-life shot. Even if this is a complete failure, it will be the best illustration for the masses that want to know how different the results are. If you want to take it a step further. Once you have a club well calibrated to the IRL tee. You could get some amature golfers to hit a few balls too. I would love to see this and I'm betting many viewers would find it very interesting too.

    I bought the attachment because of your review but I have mixed feelings about it. Yes the weight and swing feel are dead on to my real clubs, but I just can't get over the way it feels and looks at address. It feels like the club is much lower in the game, like if you turn this "y" 90 degrees to the right. I understand why, because the controller is off the shaft and under it. I have a screen shot of a guy on RUclips that show exactly what I'm talking about if you want to see it. Now the first Deadeye was perfect because it was at the end of the attachment, a continuation of the attachment if you will. Why didn't they just make that more heavier? Now with that being said. Am I missing something, is there an adjustment that I don't know about? If I am...please let me know. Otherwise this was a great video...Thanks guys. Joe

    i did some of my own tests using an old cut down driver shaft, attached the oculus controller about half way down, and then added weight to the bottom end of the shaft to make it the exact same weight as my 7 iron using scales. when swinging it felt a LOT lighter, even lighter than my 60deg wedge that has a graphite shaft. this must be because the shaft is shorter and the weight is closer to me. i kept adding weight to the bottom of the shaft and closed my eyes and took swings with my 7 iron and this rig until they felt exactly the same. in the end the vr shaft needed to be alomst 200g heavier to feel the same as a 7 iron when swinging.

    Echoing some of the other comments around the lever arm. Torque = Mass x Distance, and since we're trying to simulate the torque at the wrist to get the right "feel", you can play with the equation. This new attachment is shorter, but with more weight and a different CG to attempt keeping the same torque.
    Rough Calc estimating center of gravity for each scenario:
    Real club = 0.452 kg X 0.67 CG multiplier X 0.889m (35" club) = 0.27 kg-m torque
    Rough VR setup = 0.605 kg (controller + club adapter) X 0.8 CG multiplier (further towards end) X 0.609m (24" length) = 0.29 kg-m torque

    The reason why the weight of the driVR is more than a club is because of moments, its simple physics. try closing a door with you hand really close to the hinge, its harder right? As the driVR is shorter, you need more weight to get the same moment. Therefore the 600g is justified and is most likely intended.

    My question is how is this game for beginner golfer? Does the ball fly just by swinging the golf? Or does it accurately calibrate the ball and if swung a bad shot will cause ground ball

    The designer should have made it adjustable in weight. Some screw on adapter or similar to add and subtract weights.

    Good video and look like I would like to get one of these. The only problem, and it's a big problem, I'm from Canada and they charge me 72$ for shipping. I'm not gonna get one because of that.
    But thanks for the review.

    I'm new to golf and I felt like the weight and feel of the 1st version was messing me up when I picked up a real club. I don't have enough muscle memory of good technique to not automatically transfer the feel from the accessory to my clubs at the range, so the time I spent in VR made my real life game worse. That's really saying something at my level of play. Does this new version feel close enough to a real club to actually use as a training tool?

      Yes. I’m a new golfer, too, & my experience parallels yours.
      This one helped. I think I prefer the Yezro YS13 with the 90-degree angled controller cup, though.

    It's too heavy. I've been using it for Walkabout (the extra weight is fine) but for Golf+ and taking bigger swings it's just way too much weight.

      I found other sticks that have replacable weights. I've also seen that 3d printed parts can crack after use. I have a 3d printer and am familiar with this brittleness. I'm going to get one that has an aluminum receptical for the controller.
