Scott played through his drums . . . . .hard to explain , you just hear the distinct difference whenever anybody else tries to play his music He is just perfect !
Yessss.. ohh i miss that rack soooo much.. most beautiful rack ever built.. in white too if i remember correctly? I actually asked Scott R in person on PM (we had a serious contact in the days regarding his drum wrapping co) if he still had it .. but it was sold long time ago .. i was seriously a buyer if he would have had it in his possesion.
Scott "Fuckin" Rockenfield is one bad ass drummer.. I have seen a lot of drummers live and I have to say, he is by far one of the greats...I will give him the horns!!!🤘
I saw them as opening acts a couple of times in the mid 80s. He played with such power i was amazed at how he kept from breaking heads back then. It looked like he was taking full power swings at the snare each time.
THANK YOU MIKE. I APPLAUD YOU. I AM A DRUMMER BEEN A FAN OF. QUEENSRYCHE SINCE THE 80s. I STILL HAVE MY 1986 RAGE FOR ORDER TOUR FROM FORT WORTH, TEXAS.
He is one awesome drummer. I grew up listening to Scott jam and he was a big inspiration in my life when I was having a hard times trying to stay clean off drugs. Thanks Scott 👍😊
@@Thirdfishlike the Eagles, Genesis, King Crimson, Kiss, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers, Blue Oyster Cult, The Rolling Stones, The Who ... very few bands don't change over time. So what?! New blood is good for the team ...
I got to see Queensryche in ‘91 from the third row at the Wheeling, WV Civic Center. They played Mindcrime from start to finish and just about all of Empire with a lot of Rage for Order thrown in. As a young drummer, it was mesmerizing to see Scott’s massive white Tama kit from Empire up close and the sound of the entire band was just incredible. I swear it was like listening to them on CD the whole night. The coolest thing was seeing how he played the groove in Della Brown. There was zero overdubbing on that song, that’s for sure, and I ended up practicing that hi-hat/ride cymbal pattern for hours to get it nailed down. It’s too bad that the band was never quite the same not long after, even though Promised Land and Hear in the Now Frontier had some quality tracks. I wish I could’ve gotten into Tribe, Q2K, and Mindcrime II, but it just never clicked for me.
I think Q2K is an underrated gem. If anything, it's a drum clinic worth listening to. Also musically, it is so much better written than Hear in the Now Frontier and/or Tribes.
My first concert was Kiss and Qryche. I was 14 guitar player but I was so blown away by SR. That was so amazing. I wish there were videos of him playing everything off of Warning.
Always loved listening to that guy's licks. I don't even play drums (guitar player... just like everyone else) but I've been digging his stuff for 25 years.
MAN, this is awesome; I could watch hundreds of hours of videos like this, love the mix. It's always great to see the Master up close, to get the real feel behind the beat. One of my favorites of all time, that I felt never got the recognition as one of the best, unless it came from other hard-core drummers... Thanks.
VERY underrated drummer. His drum parts are uniquely his. But I can not take the sound of that snare. Also..my hands, wrists and forearms hurt just imagining hitting a drum with that much tension. But none the less..a remarkable player!!!!
I read about this in some mixing magazine. He sound replaces his snare in the FOH mix using a ProTools interface and mic input triggering. So he’s got it tuned high just for feel as the top Beta 57 is not going to FOH mix. But they do use the bottom snare mic in real time just to get some snare buzz and ghost notes. Peace.
I think one of the reasons why he’s so underrated is that people tend to evaluate drummers on the difficulty level or speed etc and many fail to see just how much feel and tension-release this guy creates behind the kit. My eyes really opened to just how tasty his playing is in -99 when I saw the band live. That was pre RUclips era so it was the first time I SAW them play and was blown away.
I've always felt he was a jazz drummer trapped in a metal band (they were metal in the first half of the 80s I always thought, then petered into hard rock). He is a great drummer. Fits this band so well
Awesome..I met Scott once..nice guy..always been a huge fan and watching this I realized how much he has influenced my playing...the approach, the feel and groove. I am not in his league of course and have my own style but at some point in your career you see influences in your playing and it is cool. Scott is one of the best..hope to see him with QR again someday.
Thanks for sharing this video. Scott is one my drumming influences. There are some notable differences from his earlier approach / sound. His snare is much tighter pitched / tuned than the Empire tour. He does some ad-lib fills, something most drummers do after playing a song after many years. He plays the ride cymbal part on the bow of the cymbal, instead of the bell. He is using a washier sounding Sound Formula ride, instead of the Paiste Signature Dry Ride (I use the same ride on rock gigs) which has more focused ping and a clear bell sound. One thing that stays the same is his solid pocket, which he is known for.
Always enjoyed this guys drumming and he still has the groove. It must be weird transitioning from arenas and massive stadiums in the 80s to smaller clubs in 2014.
He's enjoying it i'm sure. I saw them play in a small bar while on the Mindcrime tour in 1987, there was no more that 500 people there! if He did then He can do it 30 years later.
Such a clockwork, precise drummer. Every beat/hit is perfection with this guy! He never under or overplays!
Nailed it!
Scott played through his drums . . . . .hard to explain , you just hear the distinct difference whenever anybody else tries to play his music

Favorite drummer of all time. His innovative style, attack, precision. Just an amazing under rated player
Then you should love Neil Peart. Rockenfield heavily influenced by him.
@@carlgibbons5777 And Peart said he listened to some of Scott's playing to inspire him. I loved that.
@@cynsini9211 That's cool. Do you have a link where Peart commented on Rockenfield or know where he did?

Yea that was an awesome kit.
Im 45 now jammed to these guys in my youth and im also a drummer but never really broke down his drumming such skill n precision. Love it

He's average AF but made millions. How is that 'underrated'? Shut up.

Great drumming. Those ghost beats on the snare gave me chills.

Scott’s amazing he was a big part of the QR sound!
The energy he puts in to his performance is amazing.
Definitely Scott kicks Butt awesome ! Queensryche not the same without Scott
Nor without DeGarmo, yet Todd replaces Tate well. So well that im good with Todd
They've become their very own tribute band.
@@kevinkaatz883 nt the same without Tate though
@@pa.fishpreacher6166agree, much better without him now

WOW, that was amazing to see from that angle. Great shot! 💕
He needs to return to the scene ! way too great of a drummer to be out of the limelight
this song is about 30 years old.

I was skeptical but Casey has filled Scotts shoes. Two incredible musicians.
