Ricky Skaggs version really tells a story of the lives of many of us who had hardworking Dads but somehow they were there - yet absent in so many ways!!!
You want the best for your child, so you work hard to provide it to them, you want them to have things you didn't have growing up, but it's a trade off, cost you quality time together, it's a vicious cycle that is only realized when you're older.
I realized it before their birth. My father worked 6am-10pm every day and did weekends too often. I loved philosophy as a child which has blessed me with foresight and embrace of sacrifice and discomforts. I ensure wealth and value to my family but I firmly put my foot down on being present always. I have reared my children with my wife from birth every single day without fail. I ensure I work from home. I ensure we spend time every single morning and after work and I say hi throughout the day. I include them in mechanic and house work even as a baby and toddler. I keep them at my side to ensure we are a pack. I even sleep with one of my children every night as a pack should. I will raise men healthy of mind body and soul. I will break that cycle.
this song reminded me of my son he passed away july 5 of 2017 and he said that he loved it because he wanted to be just like me and him it hurts that hes gone but i look up at the sky every day and tell him you was right son I love you son ill miss u 😢👪💖
This song gets me everytime, no matter who sings it. Harrey Chapin. Ricky Skaggs, Johnny Cash, or Ugly Kid Joe.... it hits me in the feels.

Definitely my sister, I’ll always have a connection with my father more than her, but she saw way more of the bad in my father 😔
