A music video to the song "Cat's in the Cradle," which was originally written and performed by Harry Chapin, but this is Johnny Cash's covered version.
song reminds me of my son , i raised him by myself , without a father, my son retired from the military with honors and on on the same day he retired , he was sworn into the Police Academy , all his father missed, too busy with his own personal selfish ways , i divorced him, and as for my son , i love so dearly , I"m so proud of him.....from your mother Angie
I remember hearing this back when I was probably 10 or 11 and realized that I was living this song, and I promised myself that I would do better if I ever had kids. I always told my girls that you can learn just as much from a bad example as you can from a good one. My shitty role model was exactly why I walked away from a job I'd had for 10 years, making $65k in 96 to move to Eastern Wa. to be a stay home dad to my 6 month old daughter. I have a picture of her getting on the school bus for her first day of school and in the background, you can see the driver who was having his first day as a school bus driver and that driver was me. I taught at her preschool, taught a cooking class every other week when she was in 1st grade, and coached every team except basketball she and her sister were on. I couldn't listen to this song without crying until I was well into my 40's, but every time I thought I was too tired or too busy for my girls, I'd hear this song and it would remind me how disappointed I was when my dad was too busy, a disappoint I never wanted my girls to feel. My oldest and I share a house together now, so I'm still getting my stay home dad fix. As far as my father, he died about 6 years ago and the last week of his life was spent in a hospital bed and of his 6 kids, I was the only one who showed up and stayed with him till he drew his last haggered breath, all the others were too busy, I guess I was the only one who wasn't, just like you dad.
REMINDS ME OF WHAT A FAILURE I WAS WITH MY 3 SONS. THE REGRET BRINGS ME TO TEARS EVERY TIME I HEAR THIS SONG. I HAVE CHANGED WHAT I COULD, BUT THEY ALL HAVE THEIR VERY BUSY LIVES. I WISH I WOULD HAVE HEARD THIS MESSAGE BEFORE I HAD KIDS, BUT THE REALISM OF MY FAILURE SHORE HITS HOME NOW. NOW I HAVE JESUS AND I APPLY THIS LESSON WITH MY RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM.
I was raised on Johnny Cash and other country and western artists. I ditched all of it once I thought I was an adult. Now at almost 64 I have total appreciation and respect for this music genius
Are we all doomed to repeat it generation after generation? This song always moves me inside as I witness the script being so precisely played around my path
My child arrived just the other day He came to the world in the usual way But there were planes to catch, and bills to pay He learned to walk while I was away And he was talking 'fore I knew it, and as he grew He'd say "I'm gonna be like you, dad" "You know I'm gonna be like you" And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man in the moon "When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when" But we'll get together then You know we'll have a good time then My son turned ten just the other day He said, thanks for the ball, dad, come on let's play Can you teach me to throw, I said-a, not today I got a lot to do, he said, that's okay And he, he walked away, but his smile never dimmed It said, I'm gonna be like him, yeah You know I'm gonna be like him And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man in the moon "When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when" But we'll get together then You know we'll have a good time then Well, he came from college just the other day So much like a man I just had to say Son, I'm proud of you, can you sit for a while? He shook his head, and they said with a smile What I'd really like, dad, is to borrow the car keys See you later, can I have them please? And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man in the moon "When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when" But we'll get together then, dad You know we'll have a good time then I've long since retired, my son's moved away I called him up just the other day I said, I'd like to see you if you don't mind He said, I'd love to, dad, if I can find the time You see, my new job's a hassle, and the kids have the flu But it's sure nice talking to you, dad It's been sure nice talking to you And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me He'd grown up just like me My boy was just like me And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man in the moon "When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when" But we'll get together then, dad We're gonna have a good time then
he might have grown up just like you but then again he may have just been paying you back the truth is in how he treats his kids. young people, you do not have to be like your parents if they neglected you as a child. at the end of life you will find that life is more about family and less about career and the difference is not even close. one of the great verses in the bible says what does it profit a man if he should gain the whole world and lose his soul. while that is often viewed as spiritual in significance it can also be applied to other areas in life. your soul in this instance could be seen as your family. what profit is there in using all your time in pursuit of the dollar and giving up the thing that should be much more important?
then i married my husband Greg , the man on the Picture, he was there to see my son, Greg"s step son , for the Military Service and Graduating into the Police Academy ,Thank you my husband from Angie , your wife

This Great Man, Everything He Touched Musically Turned To Gold And Diamonds, No One Beats Johnny

They’re young for such a very short time.
You won’t regret spending all of that time with them.
Rest in Peace Harry Chapin & Johnny Cash
Great song for the legendary man in black... immortal Johnny Cash. Thanks for video from Italy
One of my favourite versions of this great great song.
Are we all doomed to repeat it generation after generation?
This song always moves me inside as I witness the script being so precisely played around my path
Definitely has a Johnny Cash vibe to it. I'm not saying if that's good or bad.
Thanks for the work Alec. I have been using this video to teach about Workaholics in my lessons. My Chinese students thank you!
Wonderful...just loved it!
My child arrived just the other day
He came to the world in the usual way
But there were planes to catch, and bills to pay
He learned to walk while I was away
And he was talking 'fore I knew it, and as he grew
He'd say "I'm gonna be like you, dad"
"You know I'm gonna be like you"
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man in the moon
"When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when"
But we'll get together then
You know we'll have a good time then
My son turned ten just the other day
He said, thanks for the ball, dad, come on let's play
Can you teach me to throw, I said-a, not today
I got a lot to do, he said, that's okay
And he, he walked away, but his smile never dimmed
It said, I'm gonna be like him, yeah
You know I'm gonna be like him
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man in the moon
"When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when"
But we'll get together then
You know we'll have a good time then
Well, he came from college just the other day
So much like a man I just had to say
Son, I'm proud of you, can you sit for a while?
He shook his head, and they said with a smile
What I'd really like, dad, is to borrow the car keys
See you later, can I have them please?
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man in the moon
"When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when"
But we'll get together then, dad
You know we'll have a good time then
I've long since retired, my son's moved away
I called him up just the other day
I said, I'd like to see you if you don't mind
He said, I'd love to, dad, if I can find the time
You see, my new job's a hassle, and the kids have the flu
But it's sure nice talking to you, dad
It's been sure nice talking to you
And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me
He'd grown up just like me
My boy was just like me
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon
Little boy blue and the man in the moon
"When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when"
But we'll get together then, dad
We're gonna have a good time then
It’s insane but these lyrics touch home not just for me but I’m sure many other fathers.
And for the first time in my life I now know why some people like Johnny Cash.
Harry Chapin sings it better
wilson blauheuer your right he does I'm actually surprised Johnny cash didn't do a better job with this song

Give credit to Harrys wife. Plz, thanx
Why so changed from original song?
Rich Petro They just decided to use the Johnny Cash version instead of the original Harry Chapin version.🙂
this version sounds too happy😒
Nice.
Harry Chapin made this song and sings it much better. This isn't even the entire song.
