Schanpp, knew I'd forget something haha. I pay about $50 a month for that. And thanks for recognising the travel home budget! Yes I've not seen anyone else mention this. Nothing makes you appreciate home as much...as being away from it ❤
Great info! Thank you for breaking those down for us to see. I personally, would live in a place that is half the price to save 😁 Luckily, Thailand could accommodate any budget! One thing that would be nice to add is health insurance or info on how seniors should budget for regular trips to the doctor. Subscribed :)
Ahh thanks so much! And you are more than welcome 😀 That makes sense. If you go somewhere on the MRT line and not the BTS, or even on the outskirts of the BTS from Punnawithi to Ari, you will get some great deals. And, actually, when you are there, you can find some real local gems at an insanely good price (below 8,000 baht a month). Oooo, insurance, knew I'd miss something! Haha. I pay around $50pm for insurance. And, for a private doctor's appt, I pay around $30. Thank you so much for subbing! I appreciate it :D
honestly really appreciate the down and dirty costs, people usually leave out stuff like internet or if you have to uber everywhere and that stuff adds up so fast in some places.
@@trippinwitgeorge tbh i never even thought about putting something aside to come home and visit family, if you're planning ahead that will definitely have to come out of your earnings per month so again good idea and perspective on it as well mate
Thanks for the sharing and video, last year, I lived in the Jomtien area for 6 months and my monthly budget was $3K and that's with companionship with a regular Thai lady for 3x a week and not buying any LDs and barfines. Been eating Thai foods in the market not western food. I was planning to retire but changed my mind in the last minute. In my early 50's now and back to work in CA. Will do this again, next year.
Eyyyy congratulations!!! It's a great spot, and so nice to be next to the beach. I think the days of "live on $500pm" are pretty much done nowadays, if you want to live any semblance of a comfortable life. I love Thailand too 🙏 Congrats on making the move man! Wishing you well
visa expenses, i know each persons needs are different but everyone needs some kind of visa to stay long term in thailand and prices for each vary, thanks for sharing, and yes emergency funds for travel are always good to make allowances, and or a new phone laptop etc, health insurance, its easy to say oh i live on £500 dollars a month but in reality is it living or just surviving, Thailand is a great place if you have money, but like anywhere else without it life is a struggle cheers.
Ahhh yeah, I realised I forgot about visas after I recorded it...knew I'd forget something! 😅 Yeah I'd say for visas actually budgeting an extra $150-$200pm can be useful, as there is the visa costs, as well as potential trains/flights out of the country, hotels, etc - and it all ads up! And completely agree re living vs surviving...in many ways being overseas in Thailand could be WORSE if you completely run out of money compared to being back home. Thank you so much for sharing!!
Thailand are days is not cheap at all Maybe around 30-40 % cheaper then a western country but more expensive then lots of other developing countries. Lots of Westerners complain about the cost of living in their country but don't take in account the average salary they make compared to more developing countries
I appreciate this. Just came back from chiang mai. What are jobs that you can do to reach that TMI? Also what about living outside of bkk? In smaller towns? What does price point and lifestyle look like?
Oh nice! What did you think of Chiang Mai? I love it there! The weather is such a nice break from the Southern heat 😅 I'd say if you move outside of the busier parts, rent will drop my 30-50%, and things like food and drink by about 10-25%. Re jobs, I'd say really any online Western-employed job should tick that box. However, for me - I'd say going solo and getting a few freelance clients on a nice retainer is the way to go 😀
Thanks! Yes! Chiang Mai was good. It was for work. So I did get to visit around much. But it did open my eyes beyond the theoretical work remote options. I hope to visit again to determine some next steps. But in the mean time I need to find some good remote gigs.
Ahh love that! You can make it happen man for sure. Always great to start with the end in mind. I recommend researching something called "dreamlining" - it's a great way to break down income to help fund your dream lifestyle :D
@@trippinwitgeorge Thanks. I passed through there on the BTS today. Can you tell (or DM) me the name of your building? I'm looking two stops down and the condo I'm interested in is 26K. I'd like to bring me rent down to your level. Thanks!
Sure! So I've actually moved from here now. It is called "The Room", near Phra Khanong BTS. A nice spot! (But, beware the sounds of traffic from your room if you do move there...)
I appreciate the fact that you kept it realistic and didn’t advertise a 500 dollar budget as some other RUclipsrs do. Now my question is: what kind of lifestyle could you achieve with a budget of 6-8 thousand dollars per month ?
You're more than welcome man. Yeah I think having standards are important, and finding that personal balance of what is enough, and what's too much. Ah man, for 6-8k per month you are living nice! For say, 2k a month you can get a BANGING little spot with a great view, amazing facilities. I'd personally say, with that budget, you'll face very little restrictions. Can eat out twice a day, go on trips to nice places, spend a few hundred dollars a night on hotels - you'll be living nice for sure
@@trippinwitgeorge Thanks for taking the time to answer. To help you understand my question, I’m retired, I live in a small place and actually consider myself as a minimalist. Meaning: I don’t need much. I do however spend easily 5 to 6 grand a month here in Canada just for a basic lifestyle, not including rent as my place is paid for. For that reason I’m looking for a place to settle down, where my money goes a little further.
You are more than welcome :D And gotcha, thanks for the clarification. I agree with your outlook re minimalism and living the simple life. A basic lifestyle in Thailand - let's say a nice apartment close to the sea, or even a small house, 1-2 meals out a day, as well as general travel, is only going to set you back around $2.5-$3k USD. Let's say you want to budget for trips back to Canada and a 6-weekly domestic holiday, let's say $3k-$4k. I can't see it being more than 60% of what you spend in Canada - and, possibly, arguably - for an even better quality of life.
Firstly i love your glasses mate i read a comment where the guy slated them but I like them. My question to you is do you think a single guy could manage similar lifestyle to yours with £1250 monthly budget, i don't drink alcohol and wont be doing the 2 week little holidays every 6 weeks or so. cheers mate
ahh thanks so much! hahaha yeah someone dug them out and said they were too big 💔 Yeah, imo, £1,250 simple living is well doable. I'd just try to factor in it may not leave tooooo much left for return flights to the west etc. But yeah, simple living, minimising drinking...imo, you can defo get by :)
What did I miss?? Was this useful?? I'd love to know!
Good Video, health insurance! And I appreciate the add on for trips home. FIRST VLOGGER I have seen account this.
