The cost of living in Bangkok is a bit higher than the rest of Thailand but very doable. Especially if you have income from abroad. My advice is if you get the chance to live outside the US, even for a bit, take it and see what else is out there. Bring that new perspective home.

We were both still working, and took the payment amount that we had been using to pay off our mortgage faster and we put it straight into investments. Thankfully we were taught by both of our parents the value of living within our means. Thank you for your advice. Wonderful story. A heck of a financial journey. Not only is financial literacy not taught in school, neither is financial arbitrage. To have the ability to be in a country with a strong currency, then use that currency buying power in another country where it can do more, go further, and be able to live more comfortably is priceless. May everyone find their happy place.

Aside from the year-round heat and horrible traffic, Thailand is a great Asian city with lost of places to go and amazing food. You'll never be bored in Thailand. And of course, it's way more affordable than the states. Maybe when I get closer to retirement, I might follow Paul's path and maybe consider living there part-time. It's just going to continue to become more expensive to live in California.

*Our economy is like a flailing fish, fighting for its life. The normal state of the U.S. economy is actually very bad. Because of this it goes into convulsive spasms fighting to grow any way it can out of desperation.
