Cost of living is pretty high on Thai wages. The cost of living is only low if you're making a western salary there. Can local Thai's get a western salary in their own country? No.
@@LadyYunalesca Minimum wage in Thailand is around 10 dollars per day, if one whole chicken costs 10 dollars do you think average ppl can survive on minimum wage?? maybe research more before you comment on things you know nothing about.
I moved to Thailand from America around the same time as Paul. I’ve done a few trips here before I settled on Thailand. The cost of living in Bangkok is a bit higher than the rest of Thailand but very doable. Especially if you have income from abroad. My advice is if you get the chance to live outside the US, even for a bit, take it and see what else is out there. Bring that new perspective home.

Thailand is not immune to inflation. As more and more foreigners move to Thailand for cheap rent, this will drive up the cost of living, rent in particular. And if you buy a house in Thailand, you don't own the land, and there are no zoning laws to prevent someone from operating a pig farm or a karaoke bar right next to your home.
I watch this dude's videos and it's quite cool. Imagine being happier in a $600/month condo in Thailand than making $1M/year in NYC - he cracked the code
He makes $150,000 per year which will give him the lifestyle of a millionaire in Thailand. He has the top score over there. The cost of living in Thailand is much lower than NY.
He was making $400K a year in New York. His quality of life making $150K in Bangkok is about the same. Guy is spending about $2K a month all in living there and just banking or investing the rest.
Im the same age also a transplant from nyc and lived in Asia for 4.5 years (Seoul, Bangkok, Shanghai) Never looked back These asian cities are light years better than like NYC, LA, etc. Safe, convenient, clean, good night life, plenty of food options If you can work remote and have an American salary living in one of these cities its like a dream
As someone who recently moved to Thailand as well I can vouch that quality of life and values change when you are here. Everything is more laid back and relaxed. People don't stress over unnecessary things, there's a sense of community and connectedness with society & people. Sabai Sabai

Affordable comparing to what? For example, speaking of a dental care. What is a turnkey price to replace a tooth with an implant, medium implant supplier, not from Switzerland but from Brazil, Neodent, for example. I guess, this should be paid out of pocket - I doubt that a regular nomad insurance will cover such treatment.

yeah, as a Thai who also a US citizen I have been living in both countries. While Medicare in the US is an industry where giving birth could bring one into lifetime debts. I still feel bad for Thai citizens the most though most of us had to work aboard to get that "cheaper" feeling to live in our own country.

If you wanna be successful, you most take responsibility for your emotions, not place the blame on others. In addition to make you feel more guilty about your faults, pointing the finger at others will only serve to increase your sense of personal accountability. There's always a risk in every investment, yet people still invest and succeed. You must look outward if you wanna be successful in life.
The first step to successful investing is figuring out your goals and risk tolerance either on your own or with the help of a financial professional but is very advisable you make use of a professional like I did. If you get the facts about saving and investing and follow through with an intelligent plan, you should be able to gain financial security over the years and enjoy the benefits of managing your money.

My husband and I were fortunate enough to be able to pay off our mortgage early. We were both still working, and took the payment amount that we had been using to pay off our mortgage faster and we put it straight into investments. We were able to retire early because of almost 7 years of putting away what would have been our mortgage payment as well as maxing out our 401K/403B plans. Thankfully we were taught by both of our parents the value of living within our means. Thank you for your advice. I know it will help people. we are interested in investments that could set me up for retirement , I mean I've heard of people that netted hundreds of thousands during these crash, I listened to someone on a podcast who earned over $650K in less than a year, what's the strategy behind such returns?
Investing without proper guidance can lead to mistakes and losses. I've learned this from my own experience. If you're new to investing or don't have much time, it's best to get advice from an expert.
Even with the right strategies and appropriate assets, investment returns can differ among investors. Recognizing the vital role of experience in investment success is crucial. Personally, I understood this significance and sought guidance from a market analyst, significantly growing my account to nearly a million. Strategically withdrawing profits just before the market correction, I'm now seizing buying opportunities once again.
How can one find a verifiable financial planner? I would not mind looking up the professional that helped you. I will be retiring in two years and I might need some management on my much larger portfolio. Don't want to take any chances.

I also moved from nyc to SE Asia (not Thailand) for work. This dude is spot on. My only question about expat living in Thailand specifically is their new tax policies regarding bringing assets into the country. Definitely need to be careful before making big decisions
2:05 When he talks about how he made money to retire his parents and how even the success and everything that came with it essentially made him depressed. Keep that in mind. Appreciate your videos! I’m 54 and younger generations should know there’s no shortcut to acquiring wealth, but there are ways to go about it. Fellow millionaires don’t tell the poor/middle class they need the knowledge of finance coaches to help build their wealth. If anyone here needs a good coach, here’s it..
You are not 100% right man there are so many of these young kids who inherited multi millions from their parents real estate holdings in Silicon Valley
Great video and condolences yes the kindness of the Thai and the southeast Asian countries is so wonderful. I spend 3 to 4 months each year and I’m usually most cultured shocked when I come back to the US.
Thanks for talking about what keeps you afloat while living in Thailand. I come around too many videos explaining the spending. We all know it is cheap compared to living in the states but not many talk about what is sustaining that life. Mentioning your past income is a good example to get ideas on what someone can do to live a similar life. Much appreciated.
Everybody needs to listen to what he said from 8:00 to the end. That's exactly how I've always felt. Peace and happiness over everything else. The stress, illness, and depression aren't worth it.
Because he's speaking from an American perspective--as an American. $150k in America is middle class but it doesn't go far. By living in Thailand, he can save for retirement and live his best life. He's smart and brave to do this at 28.
I live in Taiwan and I spend about $600 US on a 3-bedrom apartment overlooking a park. It has two balconies and 2 bathrooms. I also eat out every day, lunch and dinner. I could never do this in Canada. I like the vibe in Southern Taiwan, close to the water and yet very central. I definetly advise people to check out SE Asia for better options than the US and Canada for affordabilty and enhanced lifestyle.
How did Paul get involved in a formal or official capacity in Bangkok real estate? It'd help others to know. Formal SE Asia jobs are hard to get as a foreigner, unless they're very technical. I assume Paul's actual service is marketing/promoting real estate, and he gets a commission kickback and does relo "consulting" of some sort.
Congrats to Paul for making the decision that is best for him. I was born in Thailand, but grew up in the States and currently live and work in California. Aside from the year-round heat and horrible traffic, Thailand is a great Asian city with lost of places to go and amazing food. You'll never be bored in Thailand. And of course, it's way more affordable than the states. Maybe when I get closer to retirement, I might follow Paul's path and maybe consider living there part-time. It's just going to continue to become more expensive to live in California.
What a weird comment. It shouldn’t matter what anyone else has it should only matter what you want in terms of life. Not comparing yourself to others as if cause someone has more material it makes them better or happier than someone with less
Do you realize how many millionaires exist in Bangkok? The amount of Billionaires that exist in that city is more than the entirety of many countries around the world.
Great journal of your journey Paul Lee- its interesting to see the difference between where you previously stayed to where you live now. And I think through your success you have documented this well. I use to live in Asia and I definitely saw the comparison including the cost of living and how far your money can go! Which is obvious it goes a lot further where you are now.
Thank you for sharing your journey to Thailand. Yes, I agree. Health is wealth at the end of the day. Best wishes to you and your lovely family. They raised you right. Many blessings. 🙏😃
I've heard so many great things about Thailand. We would be moving for similar reasons. I can't wait to visit and really feel what it's like before deciding if I want to live there.
No realtor who earned $400k in NYC and $150k now would EVER live like that. The 'content creation' is also barely a sideline with a desk setup like that.
ofc this guy doesnt make 150k a year its just social media numbers, to boost his lifestyle and get followers . if he would make 150k a year he doesnt need to rent something in thailand, he could immediately bought a condo. believe nothing on social media. or his ladyboy expenses a year in thailand are around 120k could be the second possibility. BKK is a honeypot for this social media guys and girls and its getting disgusting for that. instagram is full of those washouts promising they doing the big money. Edit: ah this guy making 150k a year but offers promising courses hahah knew it dont give this guy even attention. if he makes 150k why he needs to give payed courses. i always wonder why people still falling for that trap.
Unlike most greedy people, he helped his parents retire. What do you mean “live like that”? He obvious has different values than you. You seem focused on shallow stupid material things like whether a desk setup is impressive or not.
I am a Thai-born Thai-American. I love my home country and I will be moving back next year! A topic of concern is air quality. I know many pollutants are in the air and it affects people's skin. Other than that, I will have to be disciplined with eating because there are numerous food options which means an increased risk for diabetes, obesity, and cancer if I don't control my eating habits :)

*Our economy is like a flailing fish, fighting for its life. The normal state of the U.S. economy is actually very bad. Because of this it goes into convulsive spasms fighting to grow any way it can out of desperation. Tricks, gimmicks, rule changes try to stimulate the economy and prevent it from falling but they only bring temporary relief to people since, when you factor in inflation we are declining.*
People believe their currency has the worth it does because they have no other option. Even in a hyperinflationary environment, individuals must continue to use their hyperinflationary currency since they likely have minimal access to other currencies or gold/silver coins.
Inflation is gradually going to become part of us and due to that fact any money you keep in cash or in a low-interest account declines in value each year. Investing is the only way to make your money grow and unless you have an exceptionally high income, investing is the only way most people will ever have enough money to retire.
Successful people don't become that way overnight. What most people see at a glance- wealth, a great career, purpose-is the result of hard work and hustle over time. I pray that anyone who reads this will be successful in life..
As a beginner investor, it's essential for you to have a mentor to keep you accountable. Myself, I'm guided by Eugene Murphy. A widely known crypto consultant
This is the type of thing I support. Going where things work for you. This guy found the place that works for him, and many people in the comments echo his sentiment. I'm happy for them. I also love that everyone is different, and I can live in the north central US, where COL is low, the landscape is subtly pretty, and car infrastructure is widespread (I enjoy driving). I'm someone who appreciates geographic diversity, and the northern plains is perfect for me, specifically on America's population divide, where I can go east towards the many large cities of the upper midwest, but also west, and be in the mountains in less than 5 hours. I love snow and the cold, and could never live in the south. This is far from everyone's perfect reality, some want large cities with more job opportunities, while others want small towns where they know everyone and have a higher degree of privacy and control over who they interact with. Also, some people never want to deal with snow, while some think it's the only thing that makes winter fun. I think the ability to move somewhere that you like is one of the most straightforward ways to deal with many problems, and I think a lot of people know what they want, but they know less on where they can find that stuff. Keep traveling people, you might find your favorite place, even if you think you already found it.
Paul has an Education visa learning the Thai language. It’s normally 6 months but can be extended if you continue your education. There are other visas such as the Elite visa for people under 50. There is the retirement visa for 50+ years old. A digital nomad visa is coming soon.

I’m actually selling everything I own & starting my travels in Thailand mainly because it’s more community based (as opposed to the individualistic US). I lived in Bangkok for 6 years, from about the age of 32 to 38, working remote as a software engineer. I like the overall vibe there, I feel that in America people are not content and that bleeds over into all the small interactions you have in America. While that alone might be good enough reason to live in Bangkok Thailand, the air pollution was too much of an issue. You basically shouldn't breathe the air there and that weighs on you more.
As an Amercian, I know I wouldn't be content living in Thailand or anywhere in SE Asia or anywhere in Asia, for that matter. If I were to move, I'd go to Canada or Europe. No way would I go to Asia. I don't even care to visit any part of Asia, much less move there.
I love Thailand every time I go there! As much as sometimes I want to move to Thailand or Vietnam, it’s really hard to leave the US. Mainly, I’m an outdoor person and Asia just doesn’t offer the same type of scenery, terrain, and activities the US has to offer. It’s such a beautiful country and geologically diverse country that very few (or even none) other countries can offer. Every time I drive up and down the PNW, I’m reminded of how fortunate I am to live in this country. With that said, happy for you :)

True peace is priceless. I loved this video. I am originally from NYC; however, I currently reside in the D.C. metro. I plan to relocate to either Tanzania or South Africa in another 7-8 years.
Relocate to Kenya,the real deal.
Why? Those are not safe nor prosperous countries.
@@larryc1616 South Africa has a crime issue, Tanzania is very good but slow economy.
Why south Africa? White people are moving out.
Africa is going to be expensive in a few years
Love this video. Straight and to the point… Great point about having material possessions..
I’m actually selling everything I own & starting my travels in Thailand mainly because it’s more community based (as opposed to the individualistic US). It was cool to hear someone else moving for more community based living- where people care about people- not just themselves & things. I can’t wait!!!! I hope to be there by April 2025
I know what this guy means. In the US, I always feel the need to grind and hustle even after becoming financially independent.
That’s dumb because cities around the world are going to be expensive
Very wise move! Thanks for sharing your story.
Thanks for listening bro!
I definitely prefer spacious condos over compact luxury.
Thailand is getting expensive
US health care and cost of living makes everyone feel poor. Got 4 million saved and I still have to keep working y because of the abysmal healthcare industry in the US. What a joke US has become.
Come to our world class hospitals. You have more than enough to be treated like a king here.
Sounds like you are your own worst enemy. Get out ... and reclaim your life.
With 4M saved, you can have what he has but not the other way around.
Lies on that 4 mill lmao.
I got 4 billions dollars saved lol
Obliviously someone who was at 1$mill worth in NY can live comfortably in a country thats 70% cheaper to live than the US. Dont get how this is special
“I found a life hack”. The hack: earn western salary and move to countries with lower currency rate.

Congrats Paul on being featured on CNBC! I just wish you introduced the name of your pup haha
Can you tell me the name of the luxury condo that you showed towards the end of the video? Am going to Thailand in 6 months, and would like to check it out in person. Thanks.
Park Origin Thonglor.
Wow, glad to see Paul shown up in CNBC program!
Very nice video. This guy is living the dream. I am moving to Thailand, i work fully remote.
Rent: $544/month
Wifi: $20/month
Electricity: $80/month
Water: $3/month
Food: $500/month
Gym: $93/month
Total: $1,240/month
Only things missing were monthly cell service, monthly transportation expenses, and entertainment expenses.
Monthly cell is around $10/month, $100-$200 on transportation, and I spend around $300 on entertainment, social, drinking, and activities
$93 per month for a gym is expensive. I pay $25 per month at mine in the US lol
@@iPaulLee Appreciate the response and transparency thank you! $1,750/month all-in is pretty great in a major city.
@@Monkofthecaribbean Same but the extremely low rent in a high-class neighborhood more than makes up for the gym membership.
@@Monkofthecaribbean depends on the gym
These videos should talk about all the paperwork you need to fill out and the requirements you need to fulfill to move to another country
I've visited a couple of times and I can definitely see myself living a digital nomad life there for a few months at least. It's especially comfortable when you earn western money and the people are so kind. I feel safe there
Awesome move, Paul! Thanks for sharing your story and I wish you continued success on your journey 👏👏👏
