  • In their 20-year needs assessment, the MTA wants to extend the Second Avenue Subway across 125th Street. I wanted to see firsthand how long it takes to get across 125th Street right now by bus and subway and how they compare.

It is easier to just take the (4) to Yankee Stadium, transfer to the (D) to 125th Street and walk to Broadway

While I do agree that it's easier and faster to do that, the purpose of the video was to demonstrate how circuitous a direct end to end journey currently is.

Problem with the crosstown line is that Q train riders will simply get off at Atlantic Ave or Times Square 42nd st for 2 & 3 trains to the Upper West Side Broadway the reverse also works 2 & 3 trains to Times Square or Atlantic Ave for Q train excellent video overall.

I will say one thing, though the MTA really should complete the Second Avenue expansion, I mean they are prioritizing so much project but not completing one project at the rate they're going with all these project I believe all these projects will be complete until the 23rd century which is a hell of a long time

Wonder how long it would take to just walk it. If you are a fast walker you can probably do it in good time.

The train route completely exaggerated the time.
The 4 to 149st transferring to a southbound 2 train to 96st then getting on a northbound 1 train would of been 18 minutes.
Cross town Q train would a complete waste of tax payer money vs Continuing the line to the Bronx via 3rd ave then cross to Coop city or a right turn at 125st and go to LaGuardia airport.
Both are much more needed as transportations options for New York City than going across town in a part of the city where 10 subway lines already run.

while you have some good points, the 18 minutes would be reduced to 2-5 mins depending on train wait times. also, your said 18 mins doesnt take into account train wait times. an extension to the bronx and co-op city would be much better done with the D train, already curving east at its terminus, norwood 205 st. it would also allow for a crosstown line in the bronx which is non-existent at the time being. for an extension to laguardia, it would make much more sense to extend the astoria line to laguardia or make another air train/shuttle or similar. the m60 sbs already covers the proposed route, and if the second ave subway went this way, it would make a total reverse in operating direction, making the line redundant and inefficient.

@@dorf33 We have solid points both ways bro💯. I just wish the MTA Would be more imaginative with these proposals. I fully agree with a N train spur south of Astoria Blvd over the GCP.
I only mentioned extending the second ave line to the Bronx because the 3rd ave corridor is a transit desert. The Bx15 is completely inadequate.
Another way to cut the cost of these projects in half is to elevate them.
Not the old school method that would be loud. But the pre made method like the air train which dramatically reduces noise.

@@730tv2 thats true, makes sense now that you were just basing it off of sas. i think the new elevated technology would work well and even though this is ambitious, i would like to see a boston rd/3av line that would run from 233 st and then possibly run on sas but i was thinking of running it on 5th ave. just a random proposal. it could provide extra service required to extend the nostrand ave line in brooklyn as well as possibly running down utica.
