  • @believer5497
    @believer5497 Год назад +6

    Fantastic.
You nailed exactly what I've been hearing, except for the R211T.
From what I've gathered from a "reliable source", the T units are involved in a hot bed of controversy, contention between management and crews about the cars.
I highly doubt that CRRC will ever get a railcar contract from MTA, using federal funds.
The top contenders are Alstom and Kawasaki.
Siemens usually keeps to the not so pretty, or visible wayside or background equipment contracts.
How ever, Siemens will be in the running to build the cars for the new Interboro Express line link.
Alstom also makes a fantastic LRT train set that could potentially work very well for the initial set up.
    Time will tell the story.
I'm honestly looking forward to seeing and R211T second option order for the Eastern Division, since the line is still short on equipment, like the A and C.
If more trains are sent there, then the actual "service increase" announced will be actually noticed by the rider.
As of the moment, everything is a toss up.
    Thanks for your time.

To get you up to speed, you mentioned vandalizing and surfing. Coney Island has already inserted a slip not on top of subway cars that prevent people from still standing on top of them. Many new subway delays have caused by teenagers subway surfing, which have resulted in deaths due to slips. The (7) line has been the victim of subway surfing and many who have friends AND family working in the system should’ve known that one of their own is on top of the train. Photos of the aftermath show very graphic results. Because of information about vandalism, the TA has installed cameras INSIDE the train. The R160s were the first to get them, the R188s have a different one.

Dont forget that this year marks 20 years of the Rehabilitated 74th Street & Jackson Heights Station.
Anyways, I feel bad for the (R) since its doing all the work. The MTA should reconsider extending the (G) line to Forest Hills on weekdays only and maybe weekends. This could increase service and reduce overcrowding and less time for a transfer since it would be easy for (G) train customers to ride 1 way to crosstown via the QBL and not have to walk a long way for a transfer.

oh god, this has become the debate of the decade. (And I Just deleted my old comment because there's a lot I've learned since.) People have become nasty with each other debating whether R211s are going to Coney Island (for the (B) and (D) trains), Jamaica Yard (for (E) and (F) trains), or both (directly replacing R46s where they run now). This is of course in addition to the (A) and (C), which is accepted as a given now. Long story short, I'm team Jamaica, and I'll spend the rest of this wall text nerding out and elaborating you can stop reading now 😝).
Assuming the second option order is taken, I think ten-car R211s will exclusively serve the (A), (C), (E) and (F) lines. With 150 trains, there's enough for the (E) and (F), which cannot run additional trains to boost frequencies due to low capacity terminals at WTC and Coney Island, as well as the (A) and (C), which can receive up to six additional trains to run more service with. I'd love for the five-car R179s to stay on the (A) (mostly for extra seats for the very long commutes to/from the Rockaways), but MTA probably wants consistency, for maintenance as well as training purposes, also Queens Blvd is the busiest B-Division corridor and, as mentioned earlier, have no room for frequency boosts, so the increased capacity onboard R211s would be appreciated.
That displaces a shitload of five-car NTT's to Coney Island and Concourse to run on the (B), (D), (G), (R) (some stay at Jamaica just for the (R), so the (E), (F), (R) could run a mixed fleet with a 2:1 ratio of R211s/R160s), and even the (Q) line. According to one commenter, MTA wants to be able to reroute the (Q) onto CBTC 6th Ave lines whenever needed. I don't like this idea because it leaves too many R68[A]s unused; however the math does work out, with 142 R160 and R179 trains for all of the above. And if they don't do this after all, 77 R68[A] trains are still a lot for the (N), (Q) and (W).
The (G) doesn't need the four-car sets; by the time deliveries for the second option order begin, all R46s are retired already, so that's (81 five-car sets) added to the system. And the (G) doesn't use that many cars for service in the first place. What I hope they do is match (G) frequencies to (F) train frequencies (the (F) is more frequent currently); I estimate this would increase the maximum number of cars used for the (G) from 65 to 90, about a 40% increase (while decreasing merging conflicts), so maybe they can hold off on ten-car trains for now. I don't think it's a great idea for the (F) to run express in Brooklyn full-time until deinterlining is pursued.
As a side note, Jamaica Yard is reportedly over capacity, so I would not be surprised if the (G) moves back to Coney Island. If this is done, then I estimate the (total quantity of full-length trains at Coney Island (not counting the Franklin Ave Shuttle) going up to 150; according to nycsubway dot org, this Yard has capacity for "near 1,800 subway cars". So the math works out too.
Finally, it's only 11 eight-car R179s displaced from the (C). The (J) will actually need them. Why? The (J) currently borrows R143s and R160s from the (L) ---- but that's okay for now because the (L) cannot run 34 trains configured for its unique CBTC system until substation power upgrades are performed; if that happens the (J) probably cannot borrow from the (L) anymore. I was originally perplexed at just the (8 four-car) R211s, but it does make sense for the (M) to take advantage of those after all.

    • @Techno-ov5ss
      @Techno-ov5ss  10 месяцев назад

It's definitely a very heated debate, which is why I attempt to be very sensitive when addressing it. It is ultimately the MTA's call, and until it is confirmed, everything that any of us may say is just mere speculation.
However, I do have my reasons as well for believing that Jamaica Yard could get R211s, despite me not wanting to see this occur lmao

Ecellent video! Good bye miserable R46.... Horrible in the beginning. Cracked Rockwell trucks, horrible workmanship and lousy MTBF. Yucky brakes, inadequate truck supports. Drama, grief and lawsuits busted Pullan Standard. Only became liveable after Morrison Knudson overhaul, which was more like an almost complete re-engineering of the cars: turning them in to ABBA sets, ripping out the engineer/conductor cabs, adding the LCD signs and scrapping g off the blue paint. Only after that effort did they become reliable. Goodbye, formica and fake wood veneer and Buger King seating. 45+ years of agony must come to an end.
The R211s will more than likely be okay. Other than fewer seats and tacky/unnecessary livery.

Thanks! The retirement of the R46s will allow for a much needed change of pace for several lines, and will likely improve the reliability of service on the lines themselves.

@Techno-ov5ss I'm hoping for some NTTs returning to N/Q, since we have suffered since the return of the old wrecks in 9/22. There are not enough R68s....

@@christopherstory2136 I believe the N/Q aren't the priority for the NTTs at the moment sadly. If anything, they might receive hand-me-down R68s to replace the R46s. If worst comes to worst, they could receive new cars from the R268 order in 10+ years or so

@Techno-ov5ss thanks - Im not a train nerd, but from what I had seen in a draft of the Capital Plan (2015?) , N/Q/D trains were amongst those to recive the new trains being covered in both orders of 211s are all taken up - as the R46 elimation was top priority (for maintenance and environmental efficiency). The R68s would fill the gap with their ultimate replacement by 2026-28 by 211s. The redeployment (theft🙂) of the R160s to the F/R et al were meant to represent the complete allotment for the CBTC project on those lines - as the CBTC systems on board and embedded en route were optimized them - with subsiquent R268s(?) configured for that role. The A was set to get the R211 "artics" as well as standards. This is what I had read and heard. Knowing how feckless, careless and wasteful the MTA is, I'm sure plans have changed - and that the MTA fails to realize south Brooklyn pats taxes too🤣🤣🤣

Rode the train the other day, Again.
I actually studied the interior, and definitely came to a conclusion, that this is a modified R160.
The windows are far too small, but only because the door pockets have to be larger for the wider doors. Effectively reducing the amount of seats where now only 5 average sized people can sit comfortably side by side, with an ADA compliance area at the head end of the cars. Yellow bucket seats that fold up to create room for wheelchair or walkers, or even strollers.
In the overall sense, I believe that the 211T would have been a better fit for all the modifications, since so much was taken away and given to the ADA riders.
I do understand the fears concerning the open gangway concepts, but it is what it is. More room is more Room.
In all honesty, the cars look like a R46 having a baby with a NTT, with a little Path PA5 mixed in.
Am blast from the past, with a splash of the future.
Elements of former rolling stock mixed in, such as the ORIGINAL R40 DESIGN, THAT HAD SMALL A DESIGNATION SIGN ABOVE THE BULKHEAD DOOR, but was removed, and replaced with a exp/lock sign... And the revived brightly lite indentifican signs with route and trunk color.
All old tech, renewed and reused.
So,I'm figuring that the bulk of the "new" is things we can't see of the bat, that makes the train operate safely.
    It's cool.
It pretty much follows what car design has been for the last 90 years, starting with the creation of the IND system.
Dimensions have stayed the same, with minor adjustments here and there.
It's the same R1, modified through each contract with greater and better amenities to suit the times.
Within the next 20 year, the oldest B Division car will be the R143, and they will be 40 years old,..
Wonder what the replacement cars will look like for those. 😊

I’d definitely agree with you. From the side, the car body almost looks like that of an R160. But the newer features on the interior make it stand out. I do like that the R211 merges various features of the past and present to create its current design
