Someone with a business and economics background please correct me if I’m wrong, but haven’t we’ve reached plateau in terms of advanced features where we can update cars less often, say every two or three years? I can understand an annual tweet in ergonomics and aerodynamics of vehicles but all these incremental advances creep up prices by making customers expect a certain level but without them advancing it all the much at all. Not quite on the level of Subaru, because their sheet metal leaves a lot to be desired, but their safety and dynamics of their mechanics. Would this temper rising costs if not corporate greed?
Im surprised Joe didnt mention that its predominantly fwd with the new ultra haldex ( or whatwver its called) system and how that makes the car feel compared to the previous S4, and the current competitors.
I agree with you Joe. I too love the interior but I am not a fan of the exterior as the 340i wagon has better lines and over all is a better looking vehicle. It is going to be interesting to see what the RS5 variant looks like as I'm sure Audi will so something special there and make the body look more widen and aggressive as they have done in the past. Great review as always Joe
Great review, Joe! I wonder if that deceleration delay will improve as the throttle adapts to the driver. That'd be a little unnerving, and another addition to lack of driver engagement.
Great review as always Joe. Front end looks cheap rent with those silver vents. That being said, the rest of it looks lovely inside and out, but pricing is insane.

That's a lovely looking thing I'd really rather like one of these. Price is staggering so I'll have a look in a year or two when Mr depreciation done his work.
They’re all over the place with their engines for the S4/S5s. The pre facelift B9 had a petrol, the facelift had a diesel and now it’s back to petrol. Make your minds up
I would go with second hand Golf 7.5 R avant, that will be faster after some mild tuning, more reliable, much more cheaper and in my personal opinion (that is strongly subjective) has very nice interior that doesn't look outdated at all.
With the introduction of this new S4, surly it’s going to make the prices of the previous gen b9 & b9.5 RS4’s hold their value or even go up! Especially if they have low miles. Such a great, desirable model.
Brilliant video as always. Great looking car imo but I just couldn‘t see myself spending that kind of money on a car which is basically just an A to B car
Awesome review. Not too sure about the car though. Exterior is growing on me, interior is the opposite. Joe can you elaborate. Has Audi moved away from having the wide map screen behind the steering wheel to just having it on the MMI on the dash? If so that would, believe or not, be an instant deal breaker for me.
Cabin space is not the reason why Audi is putting the engines so much forward on the front axle. The Quatro 4wd does not use a front transfer case. Instead, the driveshafts come right out of the gearbox and connect the front wheels. This means that the Quatro gearbox needs to be somewhere on the front axle, and the engine sits forward.
😂😂 They use this configuration for pendulum effect buddy. Is not the only car doing that. Most of cars use this effect. 😂😂😂 people are still dumb even after 100 years of Audi. Just incredible
I wonder why Audi chose not only to replace the saloon with a hatch, which is a rare non-coupe body style for premium offerings in this class, but also drop (2dr & 5dr) coupe versions too.
At that money I think i would have the BMW 550e poverty spec. Ref the overrun thing. Didn’t you have that on that A6 Allroad? I think is a setting you can change for efficiency/emissions
I’m seeing a lot of similarities with the Arteon R Shooting Brake, except for the price, which is nuts!! The styling and wheelbase could eaisly be identical looking at it on screen, be interested in the comparisons. I do feel like the Arteon would benefit from a larger capacity engine, but not at the cost of adding on hybrid and let’s be clear, it most definitely doesn’t feel underpowered! Do like the look of this S5 though.
RRP is significantly more than what my RS4 was in December brand new. I expect there's going to be discounts available, can't explain the price any other way!
I genuinely thought I'd misheard the price and it was only when he showed the number that I realised Audi are genuinely thinking $70k is reasonable for a 4-cylinder 2.0L petrol car with zero options How much is the RS5 (or whatever it's called) going to be?? And what does that mean for the A6 replacement (A7?)...$100k+ for the base model...
I like it. It needed the interior update. But who is buying it at that price? Used prices will be interesting to see. Back to petrol at least. Would have preferred to see a ZF auto instead of DSG.
My mk8 golf gti and my Audi q3 all do the same accelerate away from my local roundabout then come off the gas and if you don’t have to brake will maintain the same speed till I get to my next roundabout which is 1 1/2 miles further on, weird maybe a fuel saving thing who knows?
As everyone has said, the prices are crazy? Interesting that they've gone back to the DCT box. Are the exhausts real or fake? The current S4 fake ones do my head in.
I can only summise that Audi are targeting business leases with all of their new cars because with these prices they certainly aren't aimed at normal people.

Good little snippet of market info at the start. Liked that
But all new cars are just flat out way too expensive and way too heavy. I had a B8.5 S4 and I’d happily go back to that over this
Wow the Chinese are really gonna take over the international car market soon with this type of competition
Beautiful vid. Seemed like you were trying your best to give it the benefit of the doubt, but didn't see the smile you have in all your M340i vids. For the sake of a couple of cm of rear legroom, I'll be sticking with a G21 M340i Touring.
Looks like older cars are the way to go.
I priced one up estate in black with plenty of options. 71k would love one and is on my list...
My S4 b9 was 50k from memory so it's a 20k uplift. Mental
There is a brand new RS4 for sale @ 60K 😮
Guess it might not have any options at that price, but still a great car when an M3 estate is £80K
Im surprised Joe didnt mention that its predominantly fwd with the new ultra haldex ( or whatwver its called) system and how that makes the car feel compared to the previous S4, and the current competitors.
Where was the filming location? Thanks for answering
Doesn't look like an Audi to me but it's still interesting
Great review as always Joe. Front end looks cheap rent with those silver vents. That being said, the rest of it looks lovely inside and out, but pricing is insane.
For that price Id get a Volvo V60 (T6 or T8) load lugger and an Alpine A110!
I feel some big name car manufacturers are going to get seriously unstuck in the not too distant future.
the display reminds me of chevy. passengers display is not necessary. also the shift handle, could it be smallerrrr? the rest of it is good! thanks for sharing.
Make your minds up
Only England, they’re running 9s over here with S5s and S4s, they screwed you for some reason.
only in the EU bud, they only used the same diesel engine for 5 years so yeah they should really make their mind up!!!!
I asked myself the Same question for weeks haha. Thanks for clearing that up
Awesome review. Not too sure about the car though. Exterior is growing on me, interior is the opposite.
Joe can you elaborate. Has Audi moved away from having the wide map screen behind the steering wheel to just having it on the MMI on the dash?
If so that would, believe or not, be an instant deal breaker for me.
i think this is a really nice car, and a good new gen of the s5. very good daily
How much 😮 and the full fat RS4 avant is better value, confused as to what Audi was thinking here
Cabin space is not the reason why Audi is putting the engines so much forward on the front axle.
Thanks Joe.
On balance, I think I’ll stick to my G21 M340i Touring 😊👍🏽 I love that thing 🫶🏽.
Rear looks great, front as usual for modern cars isn’t up to much
👍 I'm with you on steering feel Joe!
At that money I think i would have the BMW 550e poverty spec. Ref the overrun thing. Didn’t you have that on that A6 Allroad? I think is a setting you can change for efficiency/emissions
It's crazy when u can get this or a a45s, rs3 for 70k new or spend a bit more get a new m2.
thank god Joe's voice has recovered🙂 - I was getting worried
Unfortunately I recorded this a week before the M5 videos, it's still bad 😔
I’m seeing a lot of similarities with the Arteon R Shooting Brake, except for the price, which is nuts!! The styling and wheelbase could eaisly be identical looking at it on screen, be interested in the comparisons. I do feel like the Arteon would benefit from a larger capacity engine, but not at the cost of adding on hybrid and let’s be clear, it most definitely doesn’t feel underpowered! Do like the look of this S5 though.
RRP is significantly more than what my RS4 was in December brand new. I expect there's going to be discounts available, can't explain the price any other way!
I genuinely thought I'd misheard the price and it was only when he showed the number that I realised Audi are genuinely thinking $70k is reasonable for a 4-cylinder 2.0L petrol car with zero options
How much is the RS5 (or whatever it's called) going to be??
And what does that mean for the A6 replacement (A7?)...$100k+ for the base model...
Good looking that’s for sure.
Great video :) crazy price tag
£71k starting price, that is just crazy.
The overdrive feeling is probably the intelligent coasting? Turned this feature off in my current S4
Still a way to go for VAG to compare their Audi brand with BMW.
I love my 1999 BMW E38 So quiet and its on 200,000 miles now .
Holy cow that’s expensive.. M340i all the way…
This looks soo good
Hola,Joe!!!
Buen trabajo.
I❤️bmw.
Un saludo.Juan Luis.🤝🐳
It looks beautiful
It's half 6 in the morning for me it was a bad idea trying to understand the naming strategy this early
🤣👌
I like it. It needed the interior update. But who is buying it at that price? Used prices will be interesting to see. Back to petrol at least. Would have preferred to see a ZF auto instead of DSG.
Are those 2 piston brakes on the front wheels? S4/S5 had 6 piston brakes on the previous generation.
Short story: No. Long story: Noooooooo.
This is a much better car than the 3 series. In fact, it's a 5 series rival in terms of quality, luxury and size.
@@derbigpr500 womp womp
Looking forward to the RS5, then the facelift when they fix the badges and buttons.
My mk8 golf gti and my Audi q3 all do the same accelerate away from my local roundabout then come off the gas and if you don’t have to brake will maintain the same speed till I get to my next roundabout which is 1 1/2 miles further on, weird maybe a fuel saving thing who knows?
Jonny Smith will be pleased that the steering wheel on his Allegro has been imitated here 😂
And, not word about the driving capability of the M40i?
Look at the reliability of the BMW B58 vs the Audi 55TFSi engines and it's a no brainer even if I always prefer the looks of the Audis..
As everyone has said, the prices are crazy? Interesting that they've gone back to the DCT box. Are the exhausts real or fake? The current S4 fake ones do my head in.
Thanks for that great explanation! Def confused when I first heard of the launch. Totally agree with the 3/4 from back angle. And holy that price!
I can only summise that Audi are targeting business leases with all of their new cars because with these prices they certainly aren't aimed at normal people.
Whats different b/w bmw mercedes 48v mild hybrid is it same or even better ?
The premium German car manufacture's prices are getting ridiculous. If you are not bothered about the badge and want a fast estate look at a Skoda vRS. Circa £40k before options and fast enough for the UK with 265ps.
It’s a clean one lads
