    Really good review guys. Nice and honest and Kiwi style.
    The Cort CR250 would do me just fine. If you put a couple of SD Antiquity pups in it, would it sound any different from the modded 58 Gibson - apart from the phase wiring mod ?? The Cort is very good value for money, and aren't they are the largest guitar maker in the world? They have to be making pretty good instruments to be making 'name' guitars for other guitar companies. Yup. I'd go for the Cort. Just saying 😊

    How are those classic rocker 2 pickups of cort? are they any good or near to seymour duncans? By they way nice video.....

      Thanks! They sound really good. Haven't done a direct comparison to Seymour Duncans, and it would depend a lot on which model. The stock pickups sound great, and I wouldn't have thought an up grade was necessary unless you want a different kind of sound.

    I think quality and sound of cheap guitars nowadays grew up. I bought used cort m600 only for 300$(usd) and very enjoyed for this guitar. I have japanene jackson, but I preffer to use cort.

    Got a cort cr 150. Had it for years. Love it. Neck pickup awesome. Just changed my bridge for a Seymour Duncan. New level. Not sure if I want to change the neck pickup. Brilliant guitar for $600 aud

    Really enjoyed the vid. When do you reach a price range where you basically pay more for the small details? Is there a general rule of thumb? As you said between a 200 dollar guitar and a 800 dollar there is a significant difference but that wouldn't count for the very expensive guitars.

      That's a tough question to answer, as it varies and it's not the same for every brand. We're talking in NZ dollars, everything here is about double what it would be in the US. But for example, a $799 Cort here (as shown in the vid) is pretty much everything you need, below that you might be making sacrifices such as a non carved top or a bolt on neck, but at $799 you pretty much get what I'd call a proper Les-Paul-like experience. Where as if you bought a Gibson at $999, there's going to be fairly major compromises. Even a Les Paul studio might lack binding for example - not that that really matters, it's purely cosmetic. I think it just comes down to what compromises you're prepared to make. As I have learned more about Les Pauls, I found myself getting super picky. 'Oh that one doesn't have the right top carve, or a vintage style bridge, etc etc'. That road lead me to a Gibson R7 Historic Reissue, which I really love and am happy to own, but is it ten times better than the Cort? No. But you're not paying for ten times better. You're paying for all those little subtle things that you have grown to appreciate and desire in a guitar.

    The Gibson sound a bit warmer and has a bit better note definition but there’s not a huge difference. I’d say the Gibson has an extra 5-10%, if that’s worth paying a fortune for is questionable imo.

    Clean i prefered the cort i have to say. Overdrive was better with gibson, cant quite put my finger on it what was better. A bit more lower mids and warmth i guess, without getting muddy. But the cort sounded alright also. Nothing to sneeze at.

      It is very nice! The point of this video is definitely not that the Cort is 'as good as' the Gibson at all, just that the quality differences are not as dramatic as the price difference.

    How is the comparison of the smoothness of the frets. Which one is more pleasant to be played?

    • @TheFamilyMusicStore
      @TheFamilyMusicStore  2 года назад +1

      Cort has bigger frets, plays well. Slightly different feel. Most Gibson's are going to have a bit more care taken with regard to leveling though. Getting a professional fret level done is always a good idea on any cheaper instrument.

    And what happens between epiphone and cort of same price range? Which one do you suggest?

    • @TheFamilyMusicStore
      @TheFamilyMusicStore  4 года назад +2

      Hard to say as I don't have an Epiphone to compare. It depends on the model, but some Epiphones were actually made by Cort in the Cort factory. Some were made by Samick. I believe Gibson now has their own Chinese facility. Someone recently bought in a new Epiphone Standard for a setup and I have to admit it was pretty nice (apart from being green), but it did need a fret level. The Cort needed less work right out of the box, but in terms of materials and construction they're pretty similar in quality.
