Most people don't understand the level of composing this takes. DJs have a hard time mixing even TWO songs together. Some psychos out there can run Quads but those are a rare breed. Let alone 30+. Obviously this was practiced and what not. But how many years would you need to mash together 30+ songs? Dude was like 16 when he made this. Insanely impressive to throw this together at that age. Some fucking legitimate genius level shit.
first off this isn't DJing. It's finger drumming except samples instead of drumming. Second Todd Edwards does this much better listen to Face to Face by daft punk or any of his songs

So much to keep track of in both time and space. And the synth at the end is all him. This would already be a pretty impressive mashup if it wasn't done in real-time, but doing it all on a launchpad pushes it to insanity. There's a reason he basically got handed a music career just for this track.
The most amazing thing about this was that he was like 16 or 17 at the time. Incredible talent so young. Most EDM artists don’t make stuff like this til they’re 30+
"A lot of people like Mozart were prodigies; they were writing brilliant works at very young ages. That's probably what's going to happen: some brilliant kid will come along and be popular. I can see a lone artist with a lot of tapes and electrical … like an extension of the Moog synthesizer - a keyboard with the complexity and richness of a whole orchestra, y'know? There's somebody out there, working in a basement, just inventing a whole new musical form." - Jim Morrison, 1969
@@deepbluesyntax having a keyboard with the complexity and richness of a whole orchestra does not make your music as complex and as rich as if it were performed by an orchestra. I love Madeon, I've been following ever since I first heard of him, but Daft Punk are monsters of the genre. Most if not all of today's digital music producers have been heavily influenced by them. To give you an analogy, Mozart didn't invent the piano, but he sure as heck opened the eyes of a lot people on how to use it. Daft Punk did exactly the same. If you look at their whole discography the sheer variety is incredible.
My dad showed me this when i was 11 years old and it was first uploaded and then unexpectedly passed when i was 14, this mashup has always meant so much to me and escapsulated such a nostalgic part of my life!!
Even years later this song still gives me chills & an incredible nostalgia trip, like it’s crazy what I’ll remember by just listening to this song!! This song has impacted so many and that’s beautiful!! 🖤🧡💛
One of the best EDM artists ever. Period. Seriously, this dude is mad slept on still even with a great commercial track with Porter Robinson another solid current artist.
Madeon is probably my favorite EDM artist ever. He's produced 2 of my favorite songs ever; Mary Jane Holland by Lady Gaga and his own song, Innocence by Madeon.
I've been searching for this song for years. Not kidding. Always failing. Asking others. Not know this song. I've finally found it. I always said that this was the best beat that could possibly exist. Thank god I finally found it Note: Even after 2 years I'm still here, I feel that this song will probably be engraved in my mind for eternity lmao 2nd Note: Even after 4 years I'm still here, the first note is right, I still remember this song very clearly.

@@aquinoguh i mean . the minimix that i think you’re talking about is 5 years old, the modern equivalent would probably be his secret sky set or another recent dj set condensed into 3 minutes :]
the fact that madeon is mixing lesser known artists like bag raiders with legends like daft to create such dynamic pieces is seriously so wonderful to see. WHAT A FUCKING DAY TO BE ALIVE MAN.
There’s something cool about a 12 year old loving this song when I did at 26. You’d think it would be weird to share musical taste with a kid but it just goes to show was a universally rad mashup this is. Congrats on your kid!
I found this song during a dark and lonely time in my life, just graduated highschool in an abusive relationship and not sure how my life was going to turn out. It came across my feed again today, in 11 days I will have my nursing degree and I'm looking forward to exploring a career in mental health and teaching, all while having my amazing partner by my side and getting him ready to pursue his nursing degree next so we can travel the world together. It gets better :)
I just read the desc. of his channel. This is exactly what it said: "Madeon is a french electronic musician who talks about himself in the third person - what a snob!" lmao
I’m here from 2020 and I’m so sad I’ve never heard this before. But I stumbled upon it and I listen to it everyday! It brings a huge amount of joy to me! If you do read this, this needs to go onto Apple Music and Spotify
There's a difference between a DJ & a Live performer. Someone who plays on Ableton or on a LaunchPad is much more different then playing on CDJs/Controllers or Turntables. It's a whole different instrument & just like every instrument, requires years of practice to master, m8.
Blueberry_3ffect My point is instead of just pressing play, more DJ's should be incorporating such elements into their performances. A DJ is a live performer, are they not? I'm sure producers such as Deadmau5 would agree with what people like Madeon are doing with their performances.
Pepe Mendez Surely, you're mistaken, m8. Idk if you know the Producer, Kayzo,(Up and coming artist) but he was recently interviewed... and he's a genre mixing master, literally... it's amazing... But he stated the most common misconception is that DJ's just press play. There's a lot of effort put into mixing LIVE. It's a pretty ignorant statement, m8. Not all DJ's do it. Also, No... LOL... A DJ is different from a LIVE Show... Look up Porter Robinson's live show... as well as Madeon's.... It's not the same. But I DO understand what you mean, m8... There's plenty of performers who use Albeton, Launchpad & what not live... Theyre just not BIG. Because there are none that are at the level Madeon is. (: It's just sad that most producers who use THIS (The Launchpad) are stricly for dubstep. When the ability to do a lot more is there on the device. Also, this isnt an easy instrument to use LIVE.
yea people seem to just be playing clips ever other beat or measure instead of actually playing the clips they combine like 4 or 5 audio clips into one button so it seems like theyre playing more than they actually are
Nev, M4Sonic, Shawn Wasabi, Exige. These guys put this mashup to absolute shame. Still a great song, but you guys don't have to hate on us. We all love good music here.
I couldn’t have said it super accurate as you. I listened to this when it first came out and I still sheds tears to this to making wanna relive the good days
Years later and it still holds up among the rest of madeon's fantastic discography. Just goes to show how much of a prodigy he really is. Did you know he started making music when he was 12? And it still sounds good! He's a ridiculously talented sound engineer and a fantastic producer too.
@@randycalica626 Well, RUclips was tame... they can still try to give you a copyright strike in 2011, but it can take as long as if they can figure out who did the sources.
I really like this solo, it's a pity that it's very rare to see solos in electronic music, and one of the things that bothers me the most in relation to electronic music are the enormus amount of cliches
This right here is an important piece of music history and I hope it continues like that for many generations to come, the love and appreciation for the art Madeon had to do this in the first place more than 10 years ago, the technical skill and musical ear he needed to pull this when he was still "inexperienced" only showcases how incredibly gifted he is. If not the best out there right now, he surely is in the top 5
This is... the best thing... ever!! It's literally my childhood compacted into one song!! It has the Gorillaz, Madonna and so many other artists from my childhood... I can't believe I've only just heard this song!

10 years later and I still remember everything in my life when I saw this video. It gave me a strange motivation to better myself and live in the present. Thanks Madeon and I had no idea this one video changed your entire life! Cheers!
Lydia Beam To be fair though, Madeon is one of the very best at this sort of thing. Even after you take his ridiculously young age out of the equation, he is unbelievably talented. If you've seen his live shows you can see how much effort puts into this. But yeah, there is more to DJ'ing that pressing play. Just that a lot of headliners having pre-recorded sets.
***** you should respect somebody who is typing on a keyboard if he is typing incredibly fast. (100WPM+) because it's not easy and it require a lot of skill. Here the skill is required to press those buttons at the right moment, it's actually like playing piano!
***** I respectfully disagree. Try it! Seriously, go barrow a launchpad from somebody and play around with it. Sure there are a lot of technical bits (like setting up the individual clips themselves), but the ability required to "play" live like this video is truly expert musicianship.
Bruhhh... I remember bumping to this mashup with my iPhone 4 way back in middle school I graduated high school 1 1/2 years ago and haven’t heard this in years and then out of nowhere it pops up on my recommended. After listening to it again It just brings back so many flashbacks from middle school. 😢
0:13 to 0:34 this section of the song was used as the launch music for the TF2 servers run by an old group called Golden Machine Gun... it has been 12 years since these servers have been offline and hearing this section of the song brings me back to memories of minigames and good times.. Spycrab contests sniper huntsmen tauntchains and bullying one of the mods with a candy cane as a scout... I miss these servers.. I'm glad I found this song again..
Bruh the fact that I had a crush on this Madeon with only seeing him play the launchpad and a few pics of him in his iconic white shirt and black blazer that i searched on google 🤣🤣 man i miss the old days
I cant count the times I listed to this on my cheap and heavily scratched mp3 player back when I was in school. Listening again makes the memories flood back again, a timeless mashup I will never tire of hearing!

There's somebody out there, working in a basement, just inventing a whole new musical form."

THIS is what all DJs should be doing.
It's just sad that most producers who use THIS (The Launchpad) are stricly for dubstep. When the ability to do a lot more is there on the device. Also, this isnt an easy instrument to use LIVE.
Pepe Mendez I'm not sure you know what a DJ is..
River Clark disk jockey a.k.a. DJ.. mixes muliple songs together at once (usually live) at clubs or... RAVES
I can't believe i've been coming back to this song for over 10 years now... it's absolutely legendary

For people who say DJs and mix-artists aren't true musicians: I'd like to see YOU do this!
